Clinton High School Dark Horses Football (1960 & 1961) Chadwick Johnson 2024-01-01 | Here is some wonderful footage that has come to light after being in storage for over 60 years - thanks to the Robert and Margie Hill family. I just transferred these vintage reel to reel tapes for Margie Hill (wife of the late Coach Robert Hill and he is also #65 in the 2 games from 1961). These are 3 tapes of Clinton High School football games from 1960 & 1961. Featured in these 3 games are Head Coach Pete Carr, Line Coach R.E. Cummings, Robert Hill (65), Johnny Morisey (26), William Jones, Jay Parker (22), Burl Williamson, Jackie Pool (33), Billy Strickland (21), William Jones (20), Bill Wilson, Jimmy Bradshaw, Larry Pope, & Tommy Robinson. I would love any help anyone can offer in identifying the other players and numbers. I only have my dads (Dale Johnson) yearbook from 1961, and it just identifies the 1960 team, so I do not have much information for the 1961 team. Dad and Gene Warren were actually the trainers for the football team. These home games would have been played at the old Clinton High School stadium, which is currently where Sunset Avenue School now resides. Helen Dubose - Funeral Service & Reception Chadwick Johnson 2023-03-01 | Helen Woodside DuBose – Clinton, North CarolinaHelen Woodside DuBose died peacefully at her home on January 6, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 16, 1948, in Durham, N.C., to the late Milton and Nan Woodside. She graduated from Vardell Hall and then attended the University of South Carolina. She was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and held many positions. On January 6, 1977, exactly 46 years before the day of her death, Helen was quoted in The Sampson Independent, "My children and my husband are the most important things in my life at this time. The rearing of my children, giving them the basics and the foundation they need, is very important to me. I believe that there's good in everybody, and you should always look for the good. No one's any better than anyone else. And I believe that whatever you do, you should do it to the best of your ability...That's what I want my children to learn."Willpower and love of life were stronger than her physical ailments. No matter the circumstances, Helen never failed to have a smile on her face and display her optimism. And not to mention, she was always found reapplying one of three of her bright pink lipsticks. Helen always reminded the family to take each day as a gift and a blessing. She was larger than life and loved by her family. Helen frequently commented that her passion was her family's health, well-being, and happiness. In turn, they learned from her to fill their lives with travel, entertaining and happy energy. She also had an eye for making a house a home, a gift she passed along to her children. If it meant she had to travel 30 minutes or four hours to see her grandkids play in only one minute of a sporting event, Helen was always the first to step up to be a cheerleader. Her grandchildren have lost their greatest admirer but will always carry her beautiful spirit and love in their hearts.She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Anna Woodside Morisey. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Holden DuBose, Jr. Her daughter, Natalie DuBose Langley, and husband, Stewart of Lynchburg, Virginia. Her son, Charles Holden DuBose III, and wife, Mandy of Clinton, North Carolina. Her brothers, Milton Woodside of Brunswick, Georgia, Joey Woodside of Knoxville, Tennessee, and her sister, Jeanne Honeycutt of Barnstable, Massachusetts. Her sisters-in-law, Deborah DuBose Cone, Ellen Woodside, and Sidney Woodside; and her beloved grandchildren, Cannon and Elle Langley and Jack and Emma DuBose, who affectionately called her "MiMi."A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Clinton, North Carolina. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends at Coharie Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.In the spirit of Helen, send someone a cheery card for no reason. Call a family member or a friend and tell them you love them. And never end the phone call with goodbye, but say, see you later. This is what Helen did and would encourage others to do.
Jean Bellamy - Funeral Service (January 21, 2023) Chadwick Johnson 2023-01-22 | Jean Parker BellamyCLINTON — Jean Parker Bellamy went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 10, 2023. She was 86 years old.She was born and lived in Sampson County most of her life. She attended school in Salemburg, NC, and attended Campbell College where she met her lifelong partner and husband, Walker Bellamy, Jr. They were married at McGee Methodist Church on Sept. 4, 1954. She had 4 sisters and they were all great cooks. Jean loved entertaining family and friends at her home and nobody ever left hungry. She started her career in Clinton as a Dental Assistant and later worked in administration with a Law Firm for many years. She loved people and was the smiling face who clients first saw upon entering the firm. She was a member of McGee Methodist Church and later joined First United Methodist Church in Clinton where she sang in the choir and was a member of the C. Freeman Heath Sunday School class. She served on various committees over the years. She was the President of the Bernice Ballance Committee for 2 years; member of Meals on Wheels; served on the Pastor-Parrish Committee; and was the recipient of the United Methodist Women's Christian Service Award in 2001.Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walker Bellamy, Jr.; parents, Dennis G. Parker and Thelma Holland Parker; sister, Helen P. Barker and her husband, Edward Barker; sister, Martha P. Tew and her husband, Bobby Tew; brother-in-law, Brady Parker; sister-in-law, Martha B. King; sister-in-law, Frances B. McMillan and her husband, Dr. Samuel D. McMillan, Jr.; nephews, Rev. Samuel D. McMillan, III and David B. McMillan. She is survived by her only child, William Dennis Bellamy of New Bern; sisters, Ann P. Parker and Frankie P. Tyndall (Billy); grandson, Christopher Seth Wilson (Kathleen); granddaughters, Rachel Paige Bellamy (fiancé Spencer Adams) and Madison Bellamy Roberts (Brandon); great grandchildren Harris Bellamy Wilson, Walker Stewart Wilson and Gracelyn Parker Roberts; godchildren, Julie Tyndall and Jennifer Bell Herrman; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Jean would want to thank all of her family, her Special Circle of Friends, her numerous and dear friends over the years and the cherished memories made along the way.A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Clinton on Jan. 21, 2023, with a visitation following the service.
