Tips for Writing Melodic Metal Guitar parts Blix 2011-06-06 | I just can't stop giving away my secrets, can I? :P This isn't a full guide. It's just a few pointers for how to easily achieve a melodic feel and progression through altering modes and scales. Summary: First riff: Playing around in E Dorian mode (Russian minor). Second riff: E minor. Third riff: Gm, F#m, Gm, F#m -- Fm, Em, Fm, Em. It's just an example of how mixing up modes and scales can work to build progression. The rhythm of both guitars were identical throughout the entire song. Hope you guys find this at least somewhat useful. :)
