This character is very powerful by this point due to the fact that I can just pump vitality and not worry about other stats being needed for good damage.Lets Play Demons Souls - #9Kelsper2020-07-03 | Finishing up 3-2 and then the world tendency events in Latria. We get the last Black Phantom for Lord Rydell and finish upgrading our Demonbrandt at 480 AR.Lets Play Demons Souls - #8Kelsper2020-07-03 | Easy run through 1-2 and then starting 3-2.Lets Play Demons Souls - #7Kelsper2020-07-02 | A quick run through 5-1 and we're able to get to another Black Phantom for Selen Vinland in 5-2.Lets Play Demons Souls - #6Kelsper2020-07-01 | Clearing through the entirety of 3-1 which does take us some time and then rescuing Sake Freke.Lets Play Demons Souls - #5Kelsper2020-06-30 | Clearing out 4-2 and then killing another Black Phantom, in this case, Satsuki, after getting the Makoto.Lets Play Demons Souls - #4Kelsper2020-06-28 | Going through the first part of Stonefang Tunnel and killing Black Phantom Scirvir.Lets Play Demons Souls - #3Kelsper2020-06-28 | Taking a bit of a detour in order to get some items and mess about with World Tendency in order to kill our first Black Phantom (Executioner Miralda) and level up the attack power of the Demonbrandt. And then I do the entirety of 4-1.
A good resource for World Tendency (and the game in general) is the wikidot: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/world-tendencyLets Play Demons Souls - #2Kelsper2020-06-26 | Finishing up 1-1 and leveling up enough to fully use our desired weapon, the Demonbrandt.Lets Play Demons Souls - #1Kelsper2020-06-26 | Played with an emulator and with the following mods. These are all visual focused aside from the Old Monk gear change, which is due to online play not being possible. It won't be relevant in this particular playthrough anyway.

I did try to attempt him before on a solo sorcerer and find it far more difficult than it was here.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#6] - Chapter 10 [2/2]Kelsper2020-06-19 | Finishing up the Underground river and assaulting Dragonspear Castle.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#5] - Chapter 10 [1/2]Kelsper2020-06-18 | Start of the Underground River, which is the main area of Chapter 10.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#4] - Chapter 9 [2/2]Kelsper2020-06-14 | Rest of the temple map and then a quick run through the fight at Bridgefort.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#3] - Chapter 9 [1/2]Kelsper2020-06-14 | Starting to get through the temple area in this Chapter.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#2] - Chapter 8Kelsper2020-06-10 | Going through the first real dungeon for Siege of Dragonspear, we have a bunch of undead in a Dwarven dig site. While there is a lot of enemies here, we have an easy solution: fireball spam.Baldurs Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#1] - Prologue/Chapter 7Kelsper2020-06-08 | Decided I may as well go ahead and do Siege of Dragonspear with the solo character I completed BG1/2 with. I don't have a lot of experience with Siege of Dragonspear but I do think that it tends to be harder to solo than both BG1 and BG2 due to the low level cap compared to BG2 and then the large enemy groups that are pretty much all throughout.
It's not the longest expansion though so it probably won't take that long, and the strategy I'll probably use is a lot of fireball wands/necklace/arrows of detonation and grilling everything else in full plate, which may not be the most interesting to people.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#32] - MelissanKelsper2019-07-29 | The final battle of Throne of Bhaal, and this one is usually an ordeal even without mods. The fact that you've got to fight her four times without normally being able to rest is a problem for any heavy magic user, and she likes summoning an infinite amount of monsters.
You can of course do the Wish rest trick, but I end up not doing that at all. Remember you would want to drink a Potion of Insight in order to get 18 wisdom first, to get the best options.
Contradictory to what you would think, her Stoneskin is a special spell protection that is dispelled with a spell like Ruby Ray of Reversal instead of Breach. This means her magic resistance is irrelevant for dispelling it. I didn't end up using any of the Swords, so you could stack your level 7 spells with RRoR, but since we picked up that wand, it wasn't needed.
I ended up not getting the Death Tyrant summons during this fight, but I do believe that Spell Shield and Spell Immunity: Abjuration should make you immune to Anti-Magic Ray from it and Melissan's Dispel Magic, which I kept up for each fight with Melissan. This is particularly important to keep this fight short, because Improved Haste is essential.
Otherwise, I keep it simple. Protection from Magic Weapons (and Absolute Immunity can work as well) and melee-based. You can do this entire fight using magic and direct damage spells, but that means you have to lower her resistance instead of just dispelling her Stoneskin, and this F/I character doesn't have Skull Traps and Horrid Wilting so perhaps not the best choice. I actually could have done a lot more here including using more simulacrums or summons, to make things consistently easier.
Melissan is immune to Critical Strike and I seem to be hitting her all the time here anyway, so I don't bother. I could have potentially used Staff of the Ram +6 and Greater Whirlwind Attack as I mentioned for slightly more damage at certain parts. The best option would probably be the Black Blade of Disaster, but I didn't want to use level 9 spell slots for it.
I didn't use several tactics during this playthrough. I don't believe I really showed how Blindness, Spook and Web can be useful for this character even into ToB. I just didn't need to use them, really. Web is a great spell, though, especially combined with Greater Malison it can still hold even enemies like Fire Giants, makes them a lot easier. I also never used spell sequencers (aside from a Spell Trigger in this fight) or contingencies, both of which can be used to great effect. As you can see, they were never essential (but definitely can be helpful).
I hope this playthrough has showed the power of the multiclass Fighter/Illusionist, and of Fighter-Mage hybrids of any kind in general. I am not using any mods like SCS or Ascension, this is just the base game on Core Rules.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#31] - Balthazar, RavagerKelsper2019-07-29 | Relatively short episode because we are going to fight two main enemies with no full area between them. We do the rest of the trials after Balthazar and get ready for Melissan, which will be the final part of ToB and the end of the playthrough.
The Ravager is one of the more difficult bosses in the games due to a huge amount of hit points. He is also another enemy we could potentially use the Soul Reaver on - but we can also just kill him quickly using the method I utilise here. As you can see, Protection from Magical Weapons makes some fights so much easier. One of the things that I didn't know previously is that he's not immune to critical hits. That dramatically increases our damage output and allows us to kill him in just a few uses of PfMW.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#30] - Sendais EnclaveKelsper2019-07-29 | Last full area of ToB. Rather annoying with all the enemies in this place, so we skip a few fights. Otherwise, not too difficult and the last fight against Sendai is made a lot easier with a summon guarding the door where the drow are coming in.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#29] - Abazigals LairKelsper2019-07-28 | A couple of dragon fights. Draconis is a boss that was notorious for being difficult, but we don't have too much trouble. We skip the green dragon fight but I honestly would have just used Time Stop and destroyed it. I'm sure we've proven that we can take dragons at this point.
Worth noting that I didn't mention it, but Draconis is one of the only enemies I've seen that uses Spell Immunity: Abjuration. This would be bad for dispelling him, if not for the fact that Ruby Ray of Reversal is actually an Alteration spell compared to all the other spell protection dispels. I've also heard Mordenkainen's Swords are very useful in this fight from others, which I'm surprised about since I was imagining they would get Death Spelled immediately.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#28] - Yaga-ShuraKelsper2019-07-28 | Doing the entirety of Yaga-Shura's areas. They aren't difficult with summons and Improved Haste.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#27] - Watchers Keep Levels 4 & 5, DemogorgonKelsper2019-07-28 | Finishing off Watcher's Keep. The last levels of Watcher's Keep aren't so bad if you've managed to get past the maze level already, with the exception of the final seal battles. When you have planetars and time stop, it isn't so bad.
Demogorgon can be an issue, but we blitz him in a way that we end the fight quickly. I would imagine that trying to spam magic at him would end up being effective, but would involve an Improved Alacrity and emptying spellbooks.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#26] - Watchers Keep Levels 1, 2 & 3Kelsper2019-07-27 | Through the first three levels of Watcher's Keep. The first isn't very difficult and can be done much earlier in Shadows of Amn, the second being a little more annoying, but the third as part of the maze can be a nightmare if you actually try to fight everything instead of running through.Baldurs Gate II: ToB - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#25] - SaradushKelsper2019-07-27 | Starting ToB and clearing the first area, a sieged city. When we get out, we will be doing the entirety of Watcher's Keep before continuing with Throne of Bhaal.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#24] - Suldanessellar, HellKelsper2019-07-25 | End of Shadows of Amn - I don't believe I've really missed anything necessary so we finish up the last two Irenicus fights. We also metagame the hell out of the hell trials.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#23] - Unseeing Eye, BodhiKelsper2019-07-25 | Wrapping up the loose ends that I've left in Chapter 6 before heading off to the end of Shadows of Amn.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#22] - Windspear HillsKelsper2019-07-25 | The entirety of Firkraag's dungeon, we pick up the final item in order to forge Crom Faeyr.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#21] - Planar SphereKelsper2019-07-24 | The entirety of the planar sphere and the mage stronghold quests in order to get the Ring of Wizardry (which I may not even use).Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#20] - Umar HillsKelsper2019-07-23 | After emerging from the Underdark, we do a quick run through the entirety of the Umar Hills and the Temple Ruins.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#19] - Mind Flayer Lair, UstNathaKelsper2019-07-21 | Going through the entirety of the Mind Flayer Lair and Ust-Natha - does take a while, but is fairly straightforward. I hit 6 million experience/level 9 spells in this video as well.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#18] - Underdark, Kuo-Toas, Beholder LairKelsper2019-07-21 | Clearing out the first few areas in the Underdark - you can thereotically skip a lot of this, but the experience is so good I wouldn't recommend doing so.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#17] - Spellhold Part 2, Sahuagin CityKelsper2019-07-20 | Getting out of Spellhold, we take a stop in the Sahuagin city in order to pick up the Cloak of Mirroring before moving on to the Underdark.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#16] - Brynnlaw, Spellhold Part 1Kelsper2019-07-20 | Going through Brynnlaw and Spellhold - we finally get ourselves a Bag of Holding. It'll be some time before we're back as the Chapter 4 to 6 linear path is quite long.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#15] - Vampires, Cowled WizardsKelsper2019-07-19 | Finishing up the end of Chapter 3 against the vampires, and then killing all the waves of Cowled Wizards they send at you because I haven't done it before.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#14] - Planar Prison, Twisted Rune, KangaxxKelsper2019-07-18 | Make some good progress, cheese our way through the Twisted Rune fight with a Simulacrum and a Protection from Magic scroll, and take out Kangaxx for his ring.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#13] - Mekrath, MaevarKelsper2019-07-17 | Wrapping up some of the other quests in the city before getting ready to do Planar Prison, which is a somewhat difficult area but will get us the Boots of Speed.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#12] - TrademeetKelsper2019-07-15 | Doing the Trademeet quests, including the Druid Grove where we will be picking up Belm.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#11] - Slaver CompoundKelsper2019-07-14 | Clearing up some of the quests in the city, and doing the slavers compound.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#10] - DeArnise KeepKelsper2019-07-14 | We clear up the Harper quests before doing the entirety of De'Arnise Keep.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#9] - Circus, Copper CoronetKelsper2019-07-13 | We pick up some early gear and do some of the easier quests in the city. We'll be moving on to De'Arnise Keep to pick up our main weapon after some more questing around the city.Baldurs Gate II - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#8] - Chateau IrenicusKelsper2019-07-12 | Importing into BG2, we start out we the long slog that is the first dungeon. It is quite uneventful as per usual, although since we are a mage we are able to re-scribe all the scrolls in here for a nice chunk of experience.Baldurs Gate - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#7] - End of BG1Kelsper2019-07-07 | Shorter video where we rush the Sarevok fight, and the end of Baldur's Gate I. Apologies if you expected to see more usage of spells (especially since I picked up that Robe of the Good Archmagi and never used it), but that's what I'm going to be doing a lot more in BG2.Baldurs Gate - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#6] - CandlekeepKelsper2019-07-06 | Story progression in Baldur's Gate and then moving onto Candlekeep. Since we have hit the experience cap, not much else for us to do other than progress with the first game, which should be finished next time.Baldurs Gate - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#5] - Cloakwood, Entering Baldurs GateKelsper2019-07-04 | Cloakwood doesn't take us very long and then we get to Baldur's Gate. We will be skipping a lot of the quests there because they either give unimpressive rewards or are generally not worth it.Baldurs Gate - Solo Fighter/Illusionist [#4] - Bandit CampKelsper2019-07-02 | The main thing we do is to make progress with the bandit camp part. I take a couple of detours on the way. Next will be Cloakwood.
