Bumble Games is an educational game from the 80s, published by The Learning Company for various 8-bit computers at the time. Here I'm just playing through the Apple II version though and marking up the manual for it. Glory to Bumble, and long may he reign!Moptown Parade: Apple II PlaythroughGameplayDump2024-04-10 | Playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN4v37-8kh63CQgmPFcdHnhWJdV2ZgcB6
Moptown Parade was an edutainment game put out by The Learning Company back in the 80s for various 8-bit computers. This is a playthrough and manual viewing for just the Apple II version. I'm not sure if there are that many differences between the versions. I'm guessing 1.2 was mostly to make sure that people wouldn't think it was broken when playing on a later-model Apple II that had lower-case keyboard entry support. But honestly, I didn't check out the earlier version enough to be sure. 🫠Moptown Hotel: Apple II LongplayGameplayDump2024-04-09 | Playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN4v37-8kh63CQgmPFcdHnhWJdV2ZgcB6
This is a playthrough of the Apple II edutainment game "Moptown Hotel" by The Learning Company. It covers versions 1.2 and 1.3 because those were the only ones I could find. It's actually kinda hard with some of these minigames. Maybe I need to go back to school.Apple II Magic Spells Gameplay (Earlier Releases) + DocsGameplayDump2024-04-07 | Playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN4v37-8kh63CQgmPFcdHnhWJdV2ZgcB6

Don't mind the onscreen keyboard. I was trying out a way to possibly show input (correctly). Since I'm using a weird layout, the normal onscreen display programs wouldn't show up right. Turns out this is maybe too clunky though, I dunno.Apple II Magic Spells Game Longplay: Part 2GameplayDump2024-04-03 | Playlist: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLN4v37-8kh63CQgmPFcdHnhWJdV2ZgcB6
This is a continuation of a playthrough of games made by The Learning Company for the Apple II series computers.
I knuckled down and read the manual this time (as you might be able to tell from the notes and highlights). Also scanned through Part 1's footage to see what I might have accidentally skipped. Turns out it was quite a few.
I feel like since I'm only recording sound that comes out of my computer itself, this sort of thing needs some kind of auditory or visual feedback to let you know when I'm interacting with the program. I tried visual before (unrecorded), and it won't do any good because I'm using a custom keyboard layout, and it only shows the keys I press physically. So that might just thoroughly confuse since it would just be all sorts of nonsense. Plus, I think that would be more distracting and take away from the visual appeal. There's not so much audio to speak of in most Apple II games though, so I figure you can just mute it without losing much if you really don't care for it. :/
Anyways, I finish my playthrough of the game in this video, and I really think it's a quality piece of software they put out. Cheers to them.Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for the Apple II: Playthrough Part 3GameplayDump2024-04-02 | In this third part of my playthrough I try Monochrome video and sound effects for my keypresses. Also I get set back a disk because I don't know how to pause. 🤦🏻♀️Apple II Magic Spells Game Longplay: Part 1GameplayDump2024-04-01 | Skip to 4:30 for actual gameplay to start. I just included a bunch of informative stuff at the front in case you want to read it, probably pausing along the way to do so. I didn't want to go any faster in case the YouTube compression tried to kill it.
2:22:26 Shows what the levels look like in monochrome. Probably should have snuck that in earlier.
This game is actually more fun and challenging than I thought it would be. I am very sleep-deprived though, and although I was hoping to finish it today, I think roughly three hours is enough for one video. 😵💫🥱😪😴

I'm using a custom keyboard layout, so some of the tips that show up (like mirroring errors) probably aren't aaaaaactually valid. But for the most part, yeah, I feel like it's pretty spot on.
I don't know if I should be playing these recordings back at double-speed or adding music or something, but I guess you all can skip around, change the playback speed, or have your own music/podcast on in the background if you want. So let me know what you think. Is this too boring, or is it more authentic, relaxing, whatever?
I'll probably explore more of the features next time around and really give a look at the manual and quick reference card before I go back in, so maybe it'll be a little more exciting than just seeing me make a bunch of fumbly, impatient typos and spacing out occasionally. 🤪Apple II Apple World Demo from 1979 by Paul LutusGameplayDump2024-03-30 | This is a demonstration floppy disk of 3D wireframe rendering on an Apple II series computer. I think (still noobish here), I think that it was written in Integer Basic. You can download the file yourself from Archive.org and give it a go if you like: archive.org/details/a2_Apple_World_1979_Lutus_Paul_cr_Mulcher
As you can see, the demo just repeats itself ad infinitum. Sorry for wasting your time. 😅

If you are interested though, you can at least find English versions on Archive.org and in the Apple II Asimov Archive.
I put in both versions here since the 1995 version freezes up at a certain point. Looks like they might have taken the opportunity to fix that along with the art when they shipped the 1996 version. Other than that, I think it's all the same content with the text and the hardware animatics. Even the game looks the same to me.
I tried using the mouse pointer to indicate what I gave for the choices in the game since it doesn't show up on the screen. Flubbed one part of it though as you might be able to tell. Anyways, cheers.Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for the Apple II: Playthrough Part 1GameplayDump2024-03-27 | This is just about an hour of playing through (typing through?) this typing game to see what it's all about and maybe improve my typing speed while I'm at it.
So far, it's kind of impressive how well it still holds up. I don't much like the weird, inconsistent number of spaces between sentences and abbreviations. But other than that and the metronome ticking, I've got no real complaints.
The learning curve on the disk swapping is high though. Ended up overwriting the program disk accidentally on my first attempt (unrecorded). It probably wouldn't have been an issue on the original hardware, since the actual disk would have the write-protect area covered.
I've numbered this 01 in case I want to record more and put 'em in a playlist or some such. I guess I could've started at Beginner level in order to show you what the whole experience was like, but it really sounds painful, personally (figuratively).
My keyboard layout isn't QWERTY or Dvorak (it's Engram 2.0 with slight modifications, in case you're interested), so learning in the order of physical placement wouldn't really work on my end. Plus it's like, I've done my time on this stuff already. I took a typing class years ago, and these tedious key-combo exercises won't help me remember where the keys are at this point. They'd just be tedious. 😤Apple IIe An Introduction Disk (in English)GameplayDump2024-03-27 | This is a complete playthrough of the Apple //e disk mentioned in an early chapter of the Owner's Guide. I figured if you missed something or can't find it, this might be a good thing to put online. You can find the actual program on Archive.org, assuming Apple doesn't try to destroy it. It may seem odd that I'm using Super Mario Sunshine since VGA isn't an available output for that game's system. I have my gamecube outputting composite video, which then goes through an XRGB-3, which turns it into VGA. I then have the VGA going into the Sabrent converting unit so that it will output to component and upscale to 1280x720. I'm recording the component video from a Hauppauge HD PVR.
Also, I'm not entirely sure what brand this is. There's no company marking on mine, and I don't have a model number to go by either.
They all look so similar though. I assume they might have been manufactured by the same company and then branded differently for whatever distributer. If that's the case, this video might cover all three. If not... sorry? *shrug*
On more of a review note, the audio-in socket seems finicky. On mine, I have to keep the audio plug only halfway in to hear both channels. Plugging it in the whole way makes me lose the right side's audio. Also, on the 480p setting, there is a green bar at the very right of the screen. 720p doesn't have this problem, which is why I tend to record upscaled. It would be nice if it didn't do that though.Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP) Attract VideoGameplayDump2013-02-07 | ...Sonic Adventure DX Menu NarrationGameplayDump2012-04-02 | Each of the actors voiced menu narration.
