mysticcircuits.com/product/idum0HP Butt0n commercialMystic Circuits2023-05-09 | The 0HP Butt0n from Mystic Circuits is a deceptively useful yet simple entry into the 0HP modular line. Two buttons that work in tandem to create a variety of switching behaviors. Use either the latching or momentary button to activate or deactivate two connected signals. Some clever routing also allows the latching button to change the momentary button from normally open to normally closed. Similar signal paths to our 0ttenuator module allow both channels to be used separately, two signals to be mixed together or one signal to be sent to two destinations.

This not only means new features and improved reliability for your IDUM but also means that you can either mess with the code on your IDUM or use IDUM's code in your own projects! Everything is released under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 4.0 licence, more info on that on our github page but I cover what I consider to be the spirit under which I am releasing this code towards the end of the video.
You might also notice that there is a black panel IDUM in the thumbnail. We have a very limited number of them up on our website, to purchase go ahead and visit:
- Active/ inactive mode selection is now remembered after power down.
- Less flickering on the LED mode ring.
- Greatly improved cycle maintenance with fast mode clock manipulation, moderately improved cycle maintenance with slow mode clock manipulation.
- Fixed bug that would sometimes cause looper to land on a step other than the one pointed to by the mode dial when setting the loop length to 1.
- More modes will create 50% duty cycle gates rather than triggers by default.
- Slightly tweaked the multiply/divide mode to be more interesting at low values of the param knob.
- Improved probability distribution in lower probability settings.
- Abililty to tweak a few under-the-hood options on the first page of the firmware.
Obviously a lot of time went into cleaning up and commenting the code to make things as readable for you as well.
Hope that all of this is interesting and helpful, please comment below with any questions or suggestions you might have for upcoming firmwares!IDUM and IDUMerMystic Circuits2022-05-18 | Heres a jam that shows what sorts of possibilities are available with two IDUMs. In this clip we have each IDUM driving its own Tree/ Leaves combo with each IDUM/ Tree/ Leaves ensemble modulating the other IDUM. IDUM is a gate processing effect that turns its input effortlessly into IDM. Making complex electronic music with the modular usually requires meticulous sequencing done in advance or a large ecosystem of modules. Unfortunately, the level of expertise needed to accomplish this is not accessible to the average modular user. IDUM aims to make this process easier and put Intelligent Dance Music, also known as IDM, into the hands of people with average intelligence. IDUM does not require much knowledge to get immediate and compelling results; but with some extra familiarity, this module can enable innovative music making techniques. Instead of generating musical patterns on its own, IDUM acts like an effects processor for the sequences that run through it. For example, a filter or a delay allows the user to alter their sound by twisting the knobs or modulating the parameters. Similarly, IDUM manipulates the actual gates and sequences of connected modules, but with a level of playability normally inaccessible to a sequencer. IDUM can vary carefully crafted sequences or turn your music into an onslaught of controlled chaos. Its open source code and hardware based on the beginner friendly Arduino Nano Every encourage users to tweak their modules to taste or to add new features all while ensuring future improvements as IDUM makes its way into the wild.
IDUM has eight effect modes:
HOLD - Alter the length of incoming triggers.
BURST - Generates a ratcheting effect with timing determined by the clock.
MULTIPLY/DIVIDE - Generates a ratcheting effect with timing determined by incoming triggers.
BALL - Generates a bouncing ball effect.
ROTATE - scrambles the connections of inputs and outputs.
DELAY - postpones incoming gates by a dynamic amount of time based on incoming triggers.
BREAK - preset rhythms that turn incoming triggers into breakbeats.
SKIP - manipulates the clock output to multiply the clock speed or skip forward multiple steps.
In addition to these modes, IDUM features an eight step looper that loops incoming gates as well as any effects that were active on those steps.
To control when IDUM's effects are active, the CHANCE slider sets the likelihood that on a given step an effect will activate and the LENGTH slider sets how many steps the effect will last for. The PARAM knob controls a parameter unique to each effect while the MODE knob selects the mode. All of these controls as well as the LOOP status have their own CV modulation inputs.
Unique to IDUM is its ability to manipulate external sequencers using the clock output. This includes functions like: pausing the clock when an effect is active for dynamic clock division, skipping forwards or multiplying the speed of the clock in SKIP mode, and looping a sub-section of sequencer steps in the looper. To keep everything tamed while manipulating the clock, the CYCLE switch will send out bursts of clocks to catch your sequencer up with its original sequencer position after an effect has completed. Keep in mind that not all sequencers like to be clocked fast enough to work with these features, so for best results pair your IDUM with a TREE/ LEAVES combo from Mystic Circuits.
IDUM might be the stupidest way to make IDM and we at Mystic Circuits are proud of that. Whether you want to add complexity to your dancefloor bangers or make the most obtuse and unlistenable music imaginable, IDUM is here to help. See just how dumb your music can get with the Mystic Circuits IDUM.Mystic Circuits Leaves ExpanderMystic Circuits2021-10-27 | www.MysticCircuits.com/product/Leaves-Expander

32:06 Outro - youtu.be/pqk0TZYQHnc?t=1926Help! My Portal Sounds Too Crazy!Mystic Circuits2020-12-23 | A little demo showing some techniques for getting more subtle sounds out of the Mystic Circuits Portal. Sorry folks, the black panel Portals sold out while I was filming this.
Today we have another instructional video on how to get the most out of Ana with this episode focusing on how to use Ana to process note sequences. Unlike normal logic processing modules Ana also works with variable voltages which allows us to do all sorts of fun non-linear processes to instantly transform a melody with the twist of a knob. When it comes to note sequences Ana is capable of a lot of handy tricks either processing a single sequence or combining multiple sequences and always providing multiple outputs for quickly manipulating polyphonic note information.

This demo is on using ANA to process gates and triggers for manipulating rhythms either with the twist of a knob or with voltage control. Unlike most logic processors ANA computes analog logic so variable and negative voltages can also be processed. This adds a ton of flexibility even when processing static unipolar signals like gates and triggers. Many complex logic functions are possible with some creative patching.

Carly0HP Vactrol DIY Build Guide - UpdatedMystic Circuits2020-04-24 | Link to get a 0HP vactrol kit:
0HP Vactrol based modules take advantage of an outdated part to rough the edges of your sound. What sets Vactrol-based circuits apart is that they will slow down any incoming control voltages, allowing them to convert a gate or trigger CV input into very musical envelopes. Both the Vactrol Low Pass Gate and the Vactrol Voltage Controlled Amplifier modulate the amplitude of a signal under voltage control, but the VCA does so with minimal alteration to the sound whereas the LPG filters the sound to give it some extra weight. Both modules feature a 'mix input' allowing for passive mixing with other sound sources or daisy chaining of multiple Vactrol modules. Please note that all Vactrols are unique snowflakes and as such each module will have a different response curve.0HP Envelope Build GuideMystic Circuits2020-04-24 | Link to get a 0HP Envelope kit:
Dont let the name fool you, this module is quite a bit more than just an envelope. Patch in a gate and your output will behave as a normal sustain- release envelope, staying high while the gate is high and slowly decaying once it goes low. Patch in audio and you have an envelope follower, extracting amplitude data from whatever signal is coming in. Patch in any positive control voltage and you have a slew, adding glide whenever the incoming voltage falls. All three modes boast voltage control over the release/ response time and can use the on board input mult to either daisy chain multiple envelopes or to extract amplitude data from an audio input and then send the audio somewhere else. Possibly our most useful 0HP module yet.0HP Filter Build GuideMystic Circuits2020-04-24 | Link to get a 0HP Filter kit (be aware that this is the hardest 0HP to build):
An audio filter in a tiny package! A blend between our "AND - gate" and our "Vactrol Low Pass Gate" circuits, the cutoff frequency can be modulated at audio rate. It also features a voltage controlled clipping circuit which allows for further wave shaping. The response of this circuit is much faster than that of the Vactrol Low Pass Gate, so it will react to very plucky envelopes and even triggers.Mystic Circuits Portal - Wave Wrapping DistortionMystic Circuits2019-08-01 | mysticcircuits.com/product/portal
Portal is a wave wrapping distortion from another dimension. Similar to a wavefolder, Portal multiplies the harmonics of a signal going through it. However, instead of the output wave being folded over on itself once the input hits a certain threshold voltage the output will jump back to zero, creating a sharp transition almost like the wave has traveled through a Portal.
With three different simultaneously available flavors of distortion and four control voltage inputs, Portal is ready to transform just about anything into a perverse distortion of its previous form. From crunchy lows to piercing hisses and unparalleled squelch, the Mystic Circuits Portal is what you need to add intensity to your musical palette.Semi Modular Madness Ep.2 - 0HP Moog DFAMMystic Circuits2019-07-01 | Want to expand the scope of your new semi modular stand alone synthesizer but don't have the dough for a full case? Mystic Circuits has the solution - 0HP Modules! Tree is all about possibilities. A sequential switch with 8 positions that yields limitless paths between them, driving Tree with multiple clock sources can automatically create new sequences not easily made by hand. The clock, reset and backwards inputs drive Tree like a normal sequential switch with control over the direction of the sequence, whereas the “shift” inputs perform binary addressing of the steps with all 6 clock inputs available for simultaneous use. Featuring bidirectional inputs and outputs, when the common node is unplugged it is normalled to a high voltage allowing Tree to be used as a gate sequencer. The Turing Machine expansion port in the back allows for future expansion of Tree’s capabilities, including the ability to be used as a note sequencer.0HP Semi Modular Madness Ep.1 - Make Noise 0-coastMystic Circuits2019-02-13 | Want to expand the scope of your new semi modular stand alone synthesizer but don't have the dough for a full case? For more info on Ana visit our site: mysticcircuits.com/product/anaANA by Mystic CircuitsMystic Circuits2018-08-21 | At it’s core, Ana is a collection of ring modulators and other signals based on these ring modulators. Two inputs to Ana yield six outputs, each one a different process of these two inputs. By varying one of the front panel controls, all six outputs are changed simultaneously. If you have been looking for a slim, multi-function device to add both utility and a dose of weirdness to your workflow then Ana is the swiss army knife module for you.

Putting together a few patch examples for the EYEtenuator that didn't make it into the main infomercial video. This video should give a more comprehensive look at how the EYEtenuator works and why it is useful in a patch.SunshineMystic Circuits2017-12-12 | Uploading a bit of a different style of video to this channel, this time it is a sort of ambient modular jam rather than a purely informative demo. The concept behind this is setting up a patch with 0HP EYEtenuators distributed throughout the patch and then setting it outside to be modulated my natural changes in light, in this case a tree blowing in the wind. The patch is based around a Make Noise Morphogene loop, the loop being taken from Blonde Redhead's song "Equally Damaged". Because the light is changing so much my phone's auto-focus is going completely nuts and for that I apologize. I am looking into other camera phone apps to deal with this in the future (if you have suggestions please leave them in the comments, I have an Android). This video also happens to be a memorial to my dog who died on the day that I filmed this. Sprinkled throughout are some videos of the dog that I processed with video feedback as a kind of tribute to her. Her name was Zeta Loco Reticuli and a lot of people in the LA Modular scene knew her and that she was an awesome dog. Ill be uploading more jam videos like this in the future, if there is anything in particular that you would like to see please leave a comment below.

For more details and ordering go here:
Pros: audio rate modulation, responds to quick/ snappy envelopes, can be used with gate signals to fulfill logic functions
Cons: audible clicking when using a gate as a control voltage, trigger output can be used as a mix input but it is only AC coupled, slight warmth/ distortion at low control voltage levels (although I consider this a plus ;) ).
0HP Vactrol VCA:
PROS: cleanest of all the 0HP VCA modules, can be driven directly by a gate to make its own envelope shape, smooth response means minimal audio clicking when driven by gates, MIX input accepts DC voltages.
CONS: most bleed of all of the 0HP VCA modules, longer decay times than either the Vactrol LPG or the AND Gate/ VCA, no amplitude modulation.
0HP Vactrol LPG~
PROS: nice filtering sound dampens high frequencies while the vactrol is closing, can be driven directly by a gate to make its own envelope shape, usually has a faster "pluckier" response than the vactrol VCA, smooth response means minimal audio clicking when driven by gates, MIX input accepts DC voltages.
CONS: colors sound because of filtering, longer decay times than either the Vactrol LPG or the AND Gate/ VCA, no amplitude modulation.
0HP OR gate can be used as a sort of VCA as well even though it is not the intended purpose. This will color your sound quite a bit due to the rectifying nature of the circuit and will also require a positive voltage to reduce audio amplitude but it can still have some fun results.Mystic Circuits 0HP Vactrol VCA/ LPG Build TutorialMystic Circuits2017-09-04 | This video shows just how easy it is to build a 0HP Vactrol VCA or Low Pass Gate!
