And what makes your boss’s and your colleagues’ hearts sing? What’s the relationship between your role – the work that actually needs doing - and your own sense of gifting, calling and vocation? In a world which is “VACU” – volatile, ambiguous, complex and uncertain – we return to core questions: “What is my purpose?” “Why am I here?” Then there’s wisdom in focusing on what makes us come alive: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive. Because the world needs people who are fully alive.” We need to “Let your life speak”. Calvert discovered his voice, asking God, “Give me a job that is worth doing, even if it hard.” Call is all about stepping out without a plan, but with faith in yourself, in those you speak to, in God. Sharon and Calvert gave us space to think about how the changes and challenges of this year can help us to re-evaluate our own and others’ contributions, so that we are more able to recognise the gifts that we, and the people we connect with, bring to work and life beyond.

In this practical session, Chris Whittington spoke into the extraordinary opportunity opened by the Coronavirus crisis for each of us to participate in the creation of a radically different future – through aligning our lives to the depthless-depths of peace and communion within us.The apostles did not transform their world and its cultural systems by means of clever marketing, strap-lines or strategic plans. They transformed the world because they were transformed in Christ. They offered a new way of life, a new way of seeing and being.As a direct, practical response to the circumstances in our communities that call for peace and reconciliation, each of us can commit to the quiet, steady work of establishing peace in ourselves. This is perhaps the most important thing we can do. Contemplation, the practice of stillness, of deep looking and deep listening, not only helps us embrace the essential interconnectedness and unity of creation, but also to respond to those around us and our environment with greater and love and gratitude. Exploring the contemplative skills of deep looking and deep listening, this practical session will begin a conversation to be further explored in the July half-day online retreat. “We are not separate from those around us.
