Honestly this could be beaten on a random Tuesday afternoon, but it's WR so I figured it should go on the main (my second channel is youtube.com/@clutchingsstuff btw).
A 39:2X would be a really good run for this category. If somebody very good at the game felt like being very stupid and risked the best pace out of Bear Down ever for the 5% chance at saving 23s in Tiny Tiger (with a 95% chance of killing the run), then a 38 is honestly not even out of the question at all.
I'm leaving this run here for now, I'll probably pick the category back up again when it's beaten, but I have too many categories I want to play and too little time to grind this down without something else making it interesting besides a new 10s barrier every other month.
Realistic timesaves in order of significance:
Dr. N. Gin - 11s, I missed double arms and fudged the entrance
Piston It Away - 6s, I missed God cycle. Still managed to catch second depsite the many errors, but the ending was also slow
Crash Crush - 6s, general slop, and missing some minor tricks
Crash Dash - 5s, missing the easiest hob ever at the end, and missing some other actually tricky stuff
Cold Hard Crash - 4s, I missed the infinite slide glitch during the 2D section, plus some minor slop
Road To Ruin - 3s, mostly from the small detour for the second mask
Dr. Neo Cortex - 3, I played far too safe and fudged the entrance
There are less significant things too, but that's all the "big" stuff. This could honestly use improving, but I'm just not going to force myself through that right now... probably.
I'd like to thank the Crash HD Speedrunning community for making this accomplishment not only possible, but enjoyable to attain along the way. The surface, the run you see, it doesn't even come remotely close to showing just how much of a community effort it really took to push this game down - I can thank Diggety Dave for finding the Diggety Dive on Generator Room. WingKn0x for discovering how floaty jumps work & opening up new possibilities such as some of the tricks performed in the creek levels in this run. Tavin for discovering the first known method of making the Sunset Vista hyperjump consistent. Batake & Serenade Yuuki for discovering the stair hyperjump in Slippery Climb, then Silver106 for discovering that you can phase with this hyperjump. CameronVengenz for discovering the Koala Kong glitch, then Boolarbear for making 3 damage Koala Kong consistent & helping us understand what causes 1 damage a whole lot better in order to avoid it. AustinOblivion for discovering fast Brio strats, then Raymandicoot1 for discovering a visual cue to make said strats easily consistent. All of this, among many, many countless other contributions, such as minor timesaves, discoveries, or competition to push the game along the way has helped this speedrun come to fruition. This run - as is every run - is a culmination of a tremendous community effort, & for that I am forever grateful to anyone & everyone who has been a part of this community, thank you.

Q. Why do you get the green gem in The Lost City?
A. This unlocks a major shortcut in Castle Machinery which essentially allows you to skip the level, so it becomes worth it to spend the time of going for the green gem early in order to make up for it with this shortcut later.
Q. What was that in Koala Kong?
A. The Koala Kong skip is a trick that can save up to approximately 30 seconds (timesave varies due to RNG). It is done in 30FPS by jumping into the large boulder when Koala Kong throws it, then going backwards immediately upon Koala Kong damaging you. Somehow this causes a phase to get past the invisible wall that separates Crash from Koala Kong, Crash can then, for some reason, increase the amount of damage he does to Kong by spinning him directly instead of spinning the boulder back at him. Q. Why did you go flying in Slippery Climb & Sunset Vista?
A. A hyperjump is a glitch commonly performed in C1 NST speedrunning by either (a) bouncing into a small gap from a box to a pullboard or rotating platform while the pullboard/platform is in some way in motion whilst mashing/holding the jump button or by (b) Bouncing/jumping into an unmovable damage hitbox & mashing/holding the jump button ~ at least, that's how we're pretty sure it works.
Q. What is a floaty?
A. A floaty jump is a jump where Crash is in the air for longer than normal. Crash has floaties upon loading into a level, & they are removed as soon as Crash spins in the air, once Crash spins in the air, the only way to get floaties back is by exiting then re-entering a level (yes, this mechanic is precisely as odd & stupid as it sounds). In this run, floaties are carefully kept in the levels Upstream, Up The Creek, & Jaws of Darkness. There are tricks in the first two levels mentioned that are borderline impossible without floaties, but in Jaws of Darkness I keep floaties out of personal preference. Q. What is Nokia Skip?
A. The greatest skip in the game. It saves 2 seconds by making an earlier pullboard cycle if performed correctly. In this run, Nokia Skip was performed at 15:34

It's a little bit embarrassing that I couldn't do math for a huge chunk of this run, so I didn't even recognize it as world record pace until The Great Hall. Excited to improve upon this and run other categories/games alongside it, such as All Gems and CoD: Zombies :)

Not being fast enough to get the mask along with the God cycle in order to damage abuse a flame to skip a pullboard cycle in The Lost City
The Lost City: +12s -
Missing God cycle, missing Nokia skip very badly, messing up in the Brio bonus, messing up in the Tawna bonus.
Temple Ruins: +4s -
Taking damage on a flame, therefore missing out on mask form and missing a cycle.
Sunset Vista: +11s -
Missing the hyperjump, not getting a second mask to damage abuse in Heavy Machinery.
Koala Kong: +4s -
Not incredible RNG, waiting out the invincibility-frames to avoid potentially only getting one damage instead of instantly spinning, subpar menuing.
Heavy Machinery: +2.5s -
Extremely sloppy final climb.
Slippery Climb: +11s -
Not taking the bird hyperjump all the way to the roof, therefore having to drop down and get the backup damageless hyperjump instead, the process of dropping down to get it was extremely sloppy.
Lights Out: +1s -
Barely catching a good cycle, missed the portal at the end initially.
Dr. Nitrus Brio +3s -
Terrible RNG, got a bad frame doing the exploit where you jump on his head during the transition, so he walked forward for a little bit before opening his hitbox to be damaged again.
Total Realistic Timesave: 50.5s.
I could realistically push this category down to under 41:30 eventually, although it would be quite hard. Will have to see how I feel, will definitely push it down further from here though.

At this point good RNG is required for a run, so good that there's less than a 1/15th of a chance of even getting a run past 3 minutes. RNG as good as this? Much, much lower. So I'm done with this until it gets beaten. :)

FAQ:
- The solo Easter Egg speedrun is impossible on this map. We consider the solo Easter Egg to be finished when your screen goes from black and white to colour after you're finished listening to the final audio powerup, as this is the last step possible on solo. On all co-op speedruns the clock finishes when the real Easter Egg is completed.
- I play on Plutonium, which is a modded version of Black Ops II Zombies. The only aspect of it I used was the fast restart. Using Plutonium without changing relevant game files does not invalidate a speedrun.
- This took 1007 attempts total since Blaidan released his new and superior strategy. More than half the restarts were done in the first few seconds of the game.
