Once it's full up, I won't have any blank pages to share so you won't be able to fully marvel at the beauty of the paper. These books also come in A5 size. It's got the lovely typography. This is in the Pueblo Tobacco leather with various inserts. So I was delighted to accept this gift from Mee-Plus to try out their leather pocket notebook that as well as note taking I'd perhaps also use for simple calendar keeping as well so I can take a bit of my desk planner with me when I'm out and about. I used the dot grid, squared paper and calendar inserts to start with along with the slim pen loop and card holder. I'm really looking forward to taking this new pocket notebook out with me on my travels. 📓📓📔

This video was inspired by participating in some events at the Slow Film Festival in London with the brilliant filmmaker John Smith. John's film, Home Suite is a perfect example of Slow Cinema with its attention to the fine details in the filmmaker's domestic environment - a 90 minute film that is composed of just 4 shots (and one of those was an accident). The formal idea of a Slow Movement is said to have arisen in Italy in 1986 with Slow Food as a protest in response to a McDonald's opening in Piazza di Spagna. Italy is still at the centre of the Slow Movement. In my own life I'm determined to embrace Slowness more thoroughly and my writing, journaling, morning pages and walking are a key component of that, as I strive to be more deliberate, allow myself to take time to savour the small things and not feel under pressure to be more productive. Morning Pages is a writing practice from Julia Cameron's book, The Artists' Way where you write three sides every day just putting down whatever comes into your mind. Morning Pages has been a complete revelation for me. ✍️✍️ There are certain things I write most days in my pages: - How I’m feeling at that moment- what’s the state of my body, tired etc - Where I am and the time - Anything happening around me - the dog, the bin men etc - Any sounds - e.g the crows outside - then I might expand on that imagining the source of the sound, where it’s coming from etc - This then might lead to free associating around the sound - Anything on my mind from the day before - any residues of yesterday and whatever this brings up - Associations that flash across my mind - other times and places, fragments of memories - I might comment on whether I’ve found my flow yet and what is holding me back (maybe I’m hungry or the dog wants to go out, my phone nearby etc. - Whatever thoughts go through my mind - uncensored, no judgement- this is a good release. - If I get stuck I often repeat the last word I wrote a few times until it leads to another word and I get started again - Sometimes I just go with the rhythm of the words and let them bounce along - Again check the state of my body - is my arm sore - What’s the state of my pen and the ink - How do I feel about the day ahead - What would my fantasy for the day be - What memories and associations does this bring up - Things I can see - Things I can touch, smell #morningpages 📓📓📔

I often write when I’m walking so these small notebooks work brilliantly for my needs and aid my thinking, writing, and creativity. Many notes jotted down in these notebooks have ended up being used in my books, articles and videos. Pocket notebooks are also a great compliment to morning pages journals. 📚 Bruce Chatwin Moleskine quote from The Songlines “In France, these notebooks are known as carnets moleskines: 'moleskine', in this case, being its black oilcloth binding. Each time I went to Paris, I would buy a fresh supply from a papeterie in the Rue de l'Ancienne-Comédie."
