“When I looked at myself and I realized, I’m no longer the best coach to lead this program,” Bennett said. “If you’re going to do it, you’ve got to be all in. You’ve got to have everything. And if you do it half-hearted it’s not fair to the university and those young men.”
Bennett finished 364-136 with Virginia, leading the program to two ACC Tournament titles, six ACC regular-season championships, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and, most famously, the 2019 national championship.
“I’ve given everything I can for 15 years,” Bennett said.

Now, Mary will have to be turned around to dig back towards Norfolk to create the second tunnel of what will be two new eastbound lanes on I-64, a process that is expected to take about five months. This first tunnel took about 51 weeks and the Virginia Department of Transportation is aiming to use the lessons learned to make the return trip quicker, in about 11 months, according to Ryan Banas, project director for VDOT.
