After releasing major records on Get Physical Music, Go Deeva Records, and Madorasindahouse, and following the success of his hit “You Got the Love,” Rockin returns with another classic, “Old School Baby”.
Renowned for crafting classic tunes, the London-born and raised Rockin Moroccin never fails to impress, delivering yet another summer anthem. Already receiving support from some of the industry heavyweights, he now unveils it to the world on Birds of Mind’s very own, Mindgame Records.
“Old School Baby” is a colorful cut, evoking nostalgia from the very first listen while remaining a perfect dancefloor essential. The captivating vocals, dynamic keys, and lush drums take center stage, taking listeners on a truly addictive musical journey.
This latest addition is another sumptuous gem in the Mindgame Records collection.
The masterful Timboletti is back on Do Not Sit with “Turn Off The Clock”, a two track EP featuring the title track and “Echoes Du Fromage”.
Weaving notes and subtle nuances of sound through a bed of chords and joyously contorted vocals, “Turn Off The Clock” is prime for those late nights, while the complimentary track’s emotions run vast with a range of rhythms and soundscapes.
Deep In Your Soul is thrilled to announce the release of a captivating new EP by the talented Portuguese artist MAMöro. This highly anticipated release features the exceptional vocal prowess of Idd Aziz, delivering an unforgettable auditory experience.
The EP is headlined by the track "Noma," a Swahili term meaning "amazing." True to its name, "Noma" is a mesmerizing blend of deep basslines and vibrant synths that evoke a perfect summer vibe. The lyrics capture a profound emotional journey, encapsulated in the line: "I love the first feeling I felt, the second one it’s amazing but still I believe it the first feeling." Idd Aziz's soulful vocals elevate the track, creating an irresistible atmosphere that will resonate with listeners on dance floors worldwide.
Complementing "Noma" is the second track, "Lend A Hand." This sunny, progressive tune is designed to be the perfect soundtrack for a sunset, featuring soothing vocals and a melodic progression that invites listeners to unwind and embrace the moment. The harmonious blend of Afro House rhythms and uplifting melodies showcases MAMöro's versatility and Idd Aziz's consistent ability to deliver captivating performances.
Another unique outing from Madorasindahouse Records is coming your way on Friday 21 June.
This time, scene newcomers and great producers David McKay and Dela Sur, use Leo Middea’s Brazilian hit “Carnaval Breve” to create an afro hit:
Portuguese vocals, banging beats, and a stellar production are the key elements of this tune that will see the light of day soon, and we can’t get enough of it.
After 10 years of globally celebrated but only occasional collaborations, Bosq & Kaleta have their first full length album together. On ‘No Be Today’ the duo is finally able to stretch out and explore their wide range of influences and musical histories. The album seamlessly melds styles from West Africa & its diaspora, Caribbean & South American sounds most prominently, with Disco, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop & House. Live Horn sections mix with a blend of acoustic and electronic drums, Kaleta’s effortlessly funky guitar, Bosq’s layers of keyboards, bass & synthesizers, and heavily layered percussion sections that tug at your waistline.
Kaleta’s virtuosic melody writing ties the pieces together with infectious chants and socially conscious lyrics that span Yoruba, French, Goun, Fon & English. Kaleta, having played in the bands of both Juju music great King Sunny Ade & Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, brings the firsthand experience and authenticity seldom found in today’s West African influenced fusions. Bosq, now on his 6th full length album, brings a 20-year run experimenting with updating vintage sounds in the most tasteful way possible, melding Disco & Funk with styles from around the globe. In that time he’s worked on adding his touch to records by Ray Barretto, Orchestre Poly Rhythmo de Cotonou, Toure Kunda, Poolside, Rawayana and more.
The record is an ode to these musical histories, with the title ‘No Be Today’ coming from a Nigerian saying, which explains that this did not just start and this did not happen by chance, there’s lifetimes of work behind this. It’s also a flag planted for a different way of doing things as technology makes the “perfect” & “clean” sound easier and easier to obtain, with AI art slapped on the front. This record is handmade, full of love and feeling, from the music to the incredible art by Brazilian muralist Amanda Lobos that graces the gatefold vinyl. The statement made by this record is that we should still take our time and delve deeply into projects with our whole soul.
In a world where everything seems to be over in an instant, this is Miles Away’s attempt at putting something out there that endures, something that cements the stories of thirteen wonderful pieces of soulful music ( plus a digi bonus) which they believe need to be heard again. Compiled by label founder Dom Ore, ‘Miles Away: One’ is a collection of tracks that spans continents, eras, and genres. Rooted in soul, it features recordings from legendary musical figures alongside lesser-known artists all beautifully bought together in one cohesive long player.
Setting the tone is Idris Muhammad’s spiritual-jazz recording of ‘ I’m A Believer’ before moving into the modern soul and disco selections Miles Away have built their reputation around. The crossover-soul rarity ‘Yes It’s You’ by Eugene Smiley, the remarkable foot-to-the-floor soulful dance cut ‘She’s So Good’ by Solid Gold Revue, enduring soul funk explosion ‘No Communication’ by True Transfusion, the gospel-infused ‘Fantasy Ride’ by Uneda Dennard and the full-length extended version of ‘Superstar’ by Ruth Waters, many of these tracks appearing for the first time since their original release.
On the second disc we begin to weave a slightly different direction compared to the output from Miles Away thus far. Here you’ll find soundtrack and library music cuts from the likes of Czech artist Milan Kymlicka, renowned Argentinian composer Oscar Lopez Ruiz and noted Italian song-writer Paolo Zavallone alias Bimbo E I Milionari (edited by Ric Piccolo). Oddities and curiosities come in the form of ‘Be My Friend’ by Laine August - an 80s electro-pop gem courtesy of Freeez keysman Andy Stennett & Holly Tomas. There’s the stripped back street-soul-sounding ‘Deeper by Colour’ and the breezy Latin American sounds of Paulina Virgo’s ‘Vale Valor’. Finishing up is the timeless cover of the Stretch track ‘Why Did You Do It’ by Lady Africa Margaret Singana.
Painstakingly researched and officially licensed from artists, producers and labels that originally put out this wonderful music. In-depth liner notes depict their histories and stories - something which has been at the very heart of Miles Away from day one. This music deserves to live on long in the memory.
Ralph Session is a producer who has been making his mark on the house music scene dropping quality underground house music since 2009. The New Yorker, now based in Barcelona, has racked up well received releases on some of the hottest labels around including Razor-N-Tape, Local Talk, Nervous, Moulton Music, Large and Exploited and continues to head up his own label Half-Assed as a platform to curate the culturally deep sound of his native New York City. For his Freerange debut he’s joined forces with LA producer and vocalist Juliet Mendoza who can also be found dropping gems for the likes of Planet E, Ocha and Shaboom.
‘Freak’ sees Ralph stay true to his roots once again with all the US house hallmarks present and correct. Muscular beats keep things punchy and with plenty of weight and energy whilst the simple stabs and vibraphone hook and just the right touch of musicality without getting in the way of the all-important groove. Juliet Mendoza adds the icing on the cake with her spoken word urging you to cut loose on the dance floor.
Detroit’s own Ladymonix steps up for remix duties and turns the freakometer up to 11. Fresh from output on her own Frizner Electric label as well as Planet E, Toucan Sounds and Studio Barnhus, she twists things into an otherworldly house jam which will lock you into its minimal groove. By glitching out the vocal and keeping the groove stripped to the core Ladymonix has created a club track that will stick in your head long after the lights come up. In addition to these two versions, there’s Ralphs own ‘Brooklyn Bounce Mix’ and an ‘Instrumental’ to get your teeth stuck into.
Vanco is one of the Afro house scene's most notable names. His heavy basslines and thumping percussive grooves have resonated with audiences all over the world. He has worked with everyone from Black Eyed Peas to Manoo and, most recently, Pablo Pierro on his latest single ‘Wele Wele’ featuring Una Rams. His music has been released on labels like Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Get Physical and Defected Sondela Recordings. Last year, he played key clubs and events in Ibiza, including Blue Marlin and Pablo Fierro’s residency at Club Chinois, he has toured Africa, Europe and Asia in 2024 and recently sold out a show at Outernet, London
The majestic 'Khumbaya' is a sublime seven-minute odyssey into moving Afro house. The deep drums are peppered with organic percussion and nebulous synths, while the rousing vocal from Muneyi sends shivers down the spine. It’s a magical combination of physical grooves and plaintive pianos that will enrich any dance floor emotionally and spiritually.
Straight from the dancefloor, YERO and Kryder release highly requested ID ‘Wonderful Life’ (Kryder’s Guilty Pleasure Mix) featuring Christian Burns into the world. Out now on Kryteria Records, this is a summer heater designed to move the mind, body and soul.
Delving into the decades, 1987 chart hit ‘Wonderful Life’ originally performed by UK artist Black forms the foundations of a fresh, unifying dance mix. Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Christian Burns takes on the instantly recognisable vocal melody and hedonistic lyrics, whilst YERO and Kryder build a warm soundscape, rich with percussive tones, empowering keys and a progressive beat that nourishes the soul. Equally rife with feelings of nostalgia and sonic ecstasy, ‘Wonderful Life’ (Kryder’s Guilty Pleasure Mix) holds the power to soundtrack life’s unfiltered moments of pure joy, both on and off the dancefloor.
‘Wonderful Life’ marks the first of a new wave of productions to come from mainstage maverick Kryder who is set on breathing new life into archive records dubbed ‘Guilty Pleasures’ and curated on his own Kryteria Records imprint.
Kryder himself is an ever-evolving force with an impressive discography spanning drops on renowned labels Spinnin’ Records, Axtone and Tiësto’s Musical Freedom where he also delivers in his radio show residency. Kryder’s limitless approach in the studio has garnered star-studded collaborations including Steve Angello, Benny Benassi and MOGUAI. Not to mention, the immense party energy he emits as a DJ all too familiar with the world’s biggest happenings from Tomorrowland and Creamfields, to ULTRA Music Festival.
Collaborator YERO is a new artist project of Johnny Gerontakis, a well-versed figure of the electronic music circuit and born DJ. Hot off the launch, Grecian YERO has already donned the decks of Ibiza’s iconic Café Mambo and his Tomorrowland debut is on the horizon this summer for the 2024 edition in Belgium. An impressive feat and sure-fire signal of the heights YERO is set to scale as an artist.
Third Attempt follows up the hazy hues of his last release Blessed with his latest song, the summer-soaked, acid-infused 'People Are Beautiful' on Beatservice Records. Fresh off a run of key collaborations with Anders Hajem on Boring Crew Records and Steve Cobby of Fila Brazillia fame on UK cornerstone label Paper Recordings, he is back on the Norwegian label that’s been flying his flag since his beginning.
'People Are Beautiful' is a blissful, breakbeat-laden creation that is part coastal cruiser, and part club groover. Powered by a commanding bass synth, crisp drums and dusty breakbeat fills, a bouncing synth line and uplifting vocal sample add a splash of summer to the proceedings. Basking in the warmth of those welcoming rays, the track breaks down into a swell of euphoric vocals and sweeping pads, before building into a looped-up, acid-crunched climax. The tasty acid infusion propels it into the stratosphere, as the full force of the track comes back in and elevates your mind to another dimension.
Capofortuna, the instrumental funky-jazz trio renowned for their innovative soundscapes, announce the release of their latest E.P., "Punti di Vista". Embarking on a fresh journey of experimentation and exploration in sound, the band breaks new ground by incorporating unconventional instruments and genres into their musical repertoire.
The genesis of "Punti di Vista'' stems from the band's desire to push creative boundaries, infusing their signature sound with fresh elements. Recorded at their newly established boutique studio in Rimini, the E.P. represents a departure from Capofortuna's previous style, introducing listeners to a alternative, diverse sonic landscape.
The title track, "Punti di Vista 3000," serves as the centerpiece of the E.P., marking a collaboration between Capofortuna and esteemed producer Andrea "Neve" Recla. A departure from their instrumental funk roots, the song showcases the band's experimentation with the Casio CZ3000 synthesizer, adding a futuristic dimension to their sound.
Valexx, our Label affectionate is back on My Other Side of The Moon, this time partnering with Philou Louzolo, great DJ and producer from the Netherlands whose Congolese, Nigerian, and Sierra Leonean heritage infuses “Vhalani” with a rich cultural tapestry. Complementing this dynamic duo is the enchanting voice of South Africa's own Mavhungu, whose melodies soar across the vibrant beats. The track is a dancefloor revelation, boasting powerful synths and a bassline that commands movement. But the journey doesn't end there. The release is accompanied by two unique remixes: the first, a creation by South Africa's G-Wash10, echoes the original's dance-inducing energy; the second, a melodic interpretation by Los Angeles-based Yaw Appiah, is crafted to captivate radio listeners around the globe with its warm, smooth harmonies. These three unique interpretations showcase the diverse creative processes and visions that underpin the track. Whether it's the pulsating rhythms of Gwash10's remix or the soothing melodies of Yaw Appiah's rendition, this Afro house pack is set to conquer dancefloors and airwaves alike. Mark your calendars for the end of June, when this incredible pack is set to launch. Get ready to be transported to the other side of the moon with Valexx and company.
French innovator The Mekanism links with JAW and Erik Peers for a pair of superb new singles on MINDGAME Records.
The Mekanism has already had a huge year with a new tune on Manda Moor and Sirus Hood's Moon Child label, an EP on New York label Boogeyman and previous fine outings on Robsoul Recordings, Moan Recordings, Do Not Sleep and Whippin' Records, always with a subtle evolution each and every time.
About You feat. JAW opens up with a prying low end and drums that swagger beneath the whispered vocals that bring stark soul. It's a menacing cut for late night floors. Dancing Head feat. Erik Peers is another gem, this time with lithe tech house drums and filtered, smoky vocals that bring plenty of charm next to wispy sci-fi pads.
These are two detailed and evocative new cuts from this French maestro.
The long awaited revision of last year’s summer hit, Alegria, is finally seeing the light of day: Chris IDH, after his big success with “By Myself” is back on Madorasindahouse, remixing ARYMÉ and OSFUR.
You know the vibes, you know the lyrics, get ready to dance to it!
AJourneyOfMilez is at the heart of the current Afro-house sound. Having played across his native home, Africa and Europe, he is inspired by greats such as Culoe De Song, Pablo Fierro and more. He has formed his signature melodic style, a richly atmospheric sound that has landed on labels like Offering Recordings, King Street Sounds, and Paradise Sound System.
The EP opens with 'Kwa Dumizulu [Intro]' alongside Born Kxng, a rousing rhythm with spine-tinging vocals adding warmth and soul before 'Kwa Dumizulu' rides on heavy kicks and comes alive with distant vocal cries and soundscapes that all add to the rising sense of theatre. The majestic 'Mujo' is a journey across an African savannah at sundown marbled with the sound of crickets, birds and life-affirming synth lines. 'Umboko' is another cinematic sound with taught, bouncing kicks setting the groove, while wooden hits and live drum sounds add extra layers next to the pulsating chords and ominous vocals.
Busi Mhlongo was an influential singer, dancer and composer from South Africa who delivered poignant lyrics over music that combined local styles such as Mbaqanga, Maskanda, Marabi and traditional Zulu with jazz, funk, gospel, rap and more. She performed worldwide before her death in 2010, and here AJourneyOfMilez remixes her track 'Awukho Umuzi'. It becomes an epic nine-minute adventure with indigenous percussion, tribal vocals that awaken the soul and suspensory chords that keep you truly entranced. Lastly, AJourneyOfMilez's solo cut 'iKhwela' closes down with more organic and expressive Afro-house grooves and a dramatic atmosphere.
Esigia has been years in the making, and we believe the outcome justifies the wait.
Back in the start of 2016 the trio made quite a ruckus, bringing a new sound out of Africa, to the global scene. A raw Afro beat, mixed with synths and Ghanaian vocals.
On "Esigia", Djuma Soundsystem envisioned blending the distinct sounds of the Ghanaian kologo, a home made two string instrument, with classic Chicago house. He invited one of Ghana's foremost kologo talents, King Ayisoba, and his
band for a jam, and the result was vocal calls and responses that effortlessly intertwine with deep house synth lines and King's kologo, bridging organic percussion with electronic manipulation.
The remix pack is second to none, kicking off with Swiss maestro Kellerkind's smooth deep approach, adding his own signature groove. Kintar transports the track to another realm, introducing playful pianos and guitars to dance atop of a
deep beat, taking all listeners on a surprising turn in a jazzy break. Finally, we introduce our in-house talent Ruskar, Brazil's youngest Afro house sensation, with his distinctive sound that never fails to ignite the dancefloor.
Choose your favorite and enjoy!

The whole thing is lit up with stirring Afro vocals and rising tension in the frazzled chords while the drums grow ever more potent and uplifting. It's an epic cut with deeply emotive guitar riffs bringing a bittersweet feel that will cast a fine spell on the dancefloor.

Having been long-time admirers of one another from afar, Hell Yeah and Michele Mininni finally come together for Pop Archetypes. It is a multifaceted debut album that collides broken beats, worldly rhythms, jazz, eastern melodies, live drums and much more into one thrilling 15-track opus that arrives on May 24th.
Italian artist Mininni has always had a leftfield take on electronic music and imbued it with rhythms, melodies and instruments from around the globe. He has released it on cult labels like R&S, Optimo Trax, Internasjonal and Curle Recordings but has saved his magnificent debut album for Hell Yeah. It is much more than a collection of sounds he has already explored and instead finds him heading off into all new territory without losing his signature sense of inventive and beguiling rhythm and melody. It is a multicultural journey that takes in heterogeneous styles and diverse influences but distills them all into one cohesive album with its own unique storyline.
Says Mininni of the record, "I wanted each track to be like pieces of a unique, multifaceted picture, like walking through train cars or progressing through the levels of a video game, all filtered through my own vision and concentrated into 36 minutes. I wanted a pop album rooted in the extraordinary richness of popular music and projected into the future, a continuum where pieces communicate with each other and are received by the ears in symbiotic balance."
Despite that concept, the album is a spontaneous listen full of surprises, left turns and original ideas that all hold together in thrilling fashion. It kicks off with the tumbling jazz drums and swirling synths of 'Spinning Around Cotton Candy', takes in mellifluous melodic layers and broken beats on 'Golden Room' and 'Slipped Air' casts you adrift amongst gorgeous piano keys and refracted vocals on the suspensory 'Vertigo'. There are jungle interludes with Eastern string melodies like 'Bangkok Tempo', lavish fusions of organic and synthetic sounds on 'Kundalin' and more charming Far Eastern rhythms on 'Muting Cat'. 'Congoflash' brings electrifying cosmic rays to busy hand drum patterns, 'The Magic Of Synesthesia' combines dark amen breaks and bright and uplifting flutes while 'Carousel Of Tears' douses you in watery melodies and celestial pads that awaken the soul.
Pop Archetypes is an adventurous work packed with meticulous and infinite details but all with an overarching narrative that makes it far more than the sum of its parts.

Their true authenticity shines most in the beautifully feel good, Summer sizzler 'Sunrise'. A true modern disco gem, 'Sunrise' boasts a brilliant fusion of funk, soul, disco and remarkable vocal moments that'll bring massive joy to dance floors worldwide.

These are two evocative cuts from Collé.

Eli Fola hails from Nigeria and has pioneered his own Yoruba tech soul sound. The now LA-based DJ, producer, sound artist and sax player blends Afro culture with plenty of his own spirituality and is inspired by everything from Highlife to Jeff Mills. He has shared the stage with international stars from the hip-hop world, as well as Black Coffee, Pablo Fierro and Audiofly, so is a true leader in his field.
His fantastic 'Lagos Mentality' is emotionally intense, with passionate vocal cries and tribal chanting over a fat bassline and Afro-house drums. Layers of organic percussion and bird calls give it a vibrant, living atmosphere, and as the chord vamps build, the drums lock dancers into a spiritual groove with plenty of dramatic twists and turns along the way.

Deep In Your Soul, the Belgian label at the forefront of the Afro House scene, is thrilled to announce its latest offering, "Distortion Lab" by the South African artist Apello, with an electrifying remix by Belgium's own Geuzz. This release promises to take listeners on a sonic journey through the depths of Afro House, showcasing the genre's rich textures and dynamic range.
"Distortion Lab" is a masterful exploration of the darker, more melodic facets of Afro House. Apello, known for his ability to blend traditional African rhythms with contemporary electronic sounds, pushes the envelope with deep, dark, and intricately melodic vibes. The track is characterized by its innovative use of distortions, living up to its name, and hypnotizing synths that explode during the break, creating an immersive listening experience.
Adding to the release's allure, Belgian artist Geuzz delivers a remix that dives even deeper into the track's dark core. His interpretation is a dancefloor banger, reimagined with even more intensity and a haunting depth that complements the original's melodic journey. Geuzz's remix is a testament to his skill in creating music that resonates deeply with the essence of Afro House, making it a perfect addition to this release.
Deep In Your Soul Records is excited to bring "Distortion Lab" to the masses, further cementing its status as a label dedicated to showcasing the best in Afro House music. This release is a celebration of the genre's ability to evolve and captivate audiences around the globe, highlighting the talents of Apello and Geuzz as artists who are at the cutting edge of this movement.
"Distortion Lab" is not just a release; it's an experience. It invites listeners to lose themselves in the depths of Afro House, to feel the pulse of the earth, and to be moved by the soulful journey that Apello and Geuzz have masterfully crafted. It is a testament to the power of music to transcend boundaries and to the endless possibilities that lie within the realm of Afro House.
"Hook" emanates the pulsating rhythms of afro-house, imbued with profound meaning.
In its depths, dark pads and synth lines create a fitting canvas for a haunting vocal performance from Mali. With fervor, the chant resounds: "Tomorrow, the children of Senegal! They will fight for life! For the life of all! And for the life of all others!"
Iziki exudes pride in introducing this dynamic collaboration to our rooster. Greek Native P. joins forces with afro-prog superstar duo Savage & SHē, creating a formidable ensemble.
After 10 years of globally celebrated but only occasional collaborations, Bosq & Kaleta have their first full length album together. On ‘No Be Today’ the duo is finally able to stretch out and explore their wide range of influences and musical histories. The album seamlessly melds styles from West Africa & it’s diaspora, Caribbean & South American sounds most prominently, with Disco, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop & House.
Heavily influenced by artists like Detroit Grand Pubahs, Moodymann and George Clinton.
Label boss Nacho Marco himself delivers a remix that sounds like a clash between Prince Charles, Cameo and Kashif in 1984. House & Nu Funk sounds strictly for the dancefloor!
Produced and mixed by Meloglen
*Remix and additional production by Nacho Marco

Memo Rex is an American artist from San Diego in California, and he is a Sol Selectas regular who has featured on four of the record label's compilation releases. This is his first solo Sol Selectas EP, and it features four original tracks, one of which is a collaboration with PALOMA. who's known for her music on Lee Burridge's TRYBESof.
Alongside his music on Sol Selectas, Memo Rex has featured on other imprints such as Music Is 4 Lovers, Desert Hearts, Superfreq and SNOE. This release combines powerful drum rhythms with organic atmospherics and enchanting melodies, to create tracks that transport the listener to exotic locations.
"Vulcan" has tense atmospherics layered over jackin' drum rhythms that give the track a stomping groove with tribal influences. Latin vocals and trippy melodies create a hallucinatory vibe underpinned by a swelling bass synth.
"Muladhara" is a track made in collaboration with PALOMA. and it combines jungle sounds with heavy percussion. The chirping birds combine with vocal chants to give this track the feeling of a joyous aboriginal ceremony.
"Vesta" is the third track on this release, and it moves away from the upbeat Afro house energy of its predecessors, to instead present a light and breezy organic house sound. Its soothing piano melodies, uplifting pads and inspirational vocals are layered over invigorating drum patterns.
"Resonance" is a majestic track which closes out the release with its floating melodies and soaring pads. It's a light and breezy track with an angelic vibe that is truly spine-tingling, and the flamenco guitar strum that reintroduces the percussion is a magical moment.
The artwork by Helia Jamali takes us to the deepest transcendental volcanic landscape upon which the mind travels.
Mr. Hekayati" is not merely an EP; it's a collaboration that intertwines tradition with modernity, curated by visionary artists Ali Farahani and Satori. Ali Farahani, deeply connected to his roots, breathes new life into cherished childhood tales, while Satori, a master of sonic exploration, adds a contemporary twist that elevates the music to a masterpiece.
Djordje Petrovic, better known as producer Satori, is a musical nomad who makes a wide array of different sounds. He has played everywhere from London to NYC to Paris and can do slow and deep or more tech edged as well as everything in between, but always with a unique sense of soul and spirituality. He has worked in the past with labels like Crosstown Rebels and DGTL and many many more.
Featuring vocals by Sam Vafaei, Mr. Hekayati is a superbly fresh track that brings in elements of tribal, Afro and deep house. The synths dance an elegant dance as they move about the scales and the percussion helps move the groove onwards while the soul comes from the spellbinding vocal.
This one is sure to make a huge mark this summer and beyond.
Great music is often about chance meetings and impromptu creative sessions and so it is that Hell Yeah proudly serves up Sensory Blending, a new collaborative album from Italian collective Aura Safari and Finnish musician Jimi Tenor. The nine-track record arrives on 26th April 2024 and is a lush and luxurious fusion of jazz-funk styles.
This glorious record came about after Tenor was playing a Hell Yeah party at Tangram in Perugia. Aura Safari were local and, in some free time the day before the gig, everyone jumped in the studio together. They had never met before but soon found plenty of free-flowing common ground and the result of that one-off session is now served up on this vibrant new album that brims with musicality, indelible melodies and subtly uplifting vibrations.
Tenor has toured the world and previously collaborated with the likes of Japanese master Calm. He is a psychedelic space-jazz-funk king, skilled musician, composer and producer who, since the mid-nineties, has released more than 25 albums and 45 EPs. Aura Safari is made up of bass, synth, guitar and keys players Lorenzo Francioli, Ruggero Bonucci, Nicola Pitassio Andrea Moretti, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Nicholas Iammatteo, and they are label regulars who served up their sublime Island Dreams album here last year.
Says Jimi, who enjoyed his time in Perugia and adds that "the studio session was 100% efficient. I showed up and we started to play. Almost all that was made was material that we could use for the album. I love to work fast. Quick brushstrokes. Finish! I was amazed at how intuitively the Aura Safari guys could come up with new parts for songs. I mentioned some feeling or approach and they seemed to find it just like that.”
'Bodily Synesthesia' is the seductive opener with steamy sax notes and gentle grooves that are topped by aloof vocal whispers. 'Lunar Wind' is another slow and steamy mix of jazzy keys and soulful vocal hooks, 'Bewitched By The Sea' is a more tropical and percussive number with majestic melodies and 'My Bluebell' picks up the pace with jazz-funk grooves and hustling chords. 'Last Waltz In Perugia' has freeform sax lines soaring over meticulous drums that ebb and flow and 'Gimlet' brings a playful, samba-tinged rhythm and sunny flute leads straight from South America. There's a laidback, carefree mood to 'It's Too Easy To Love You' while 'Your Magic Touch' is a dancey number that exudes melodic joy, and 'Indigo' closes in dramatic fashion with a conversational sax that sticks long in the memory.
Sensory Blending is a seamless fusion of collaborative minds from Aura Safari and Jimi Tenor and it could well be performed live at some special select shows later in the year.
