This communicative power has been studied and quantified by researchers from several disciplinary perspectives and it is empirically proven that stories can add value to products and services.
Moderated by award-winning destination entertainment design firm, Cuningham and material experts, this session examines the evidence supporting the value stories can provide and demonstrates how applying the science of storytelling can help drive demand for products and services. The session helps participants think about how they can engage with storytelling from an empirical as well as creative standpoint when crafting a story that is unique to their destination entertainment experiences.
Storytelling can be applied to every space that customers and businesses interact, with dramatic results that—as demonstrated by the panel—are unsurprising based on the science of how people process stories.
Therefore, one of the earliest forms of human communication, storytelling, is a viable business development strategy.
The TEA Western Division presented its fourth installment of the Theme Park Design Series on June 22, this time focusing on the wide world of electrical engineering.

************************************** On February 28, 2022, the TEA Western Division proudly celebrated black leaders in our Industry! In honor of Black History Month, we held an hour-long panel session featuring four amazing first-generation black storytellers who are shaping and driving new experiences for today’s generation. We heard stories about struggles and insecurities, perseverance in the face of doubt, and building a community in a space where they were underrepresented. With this, we found one common trait that united all the panelists: the courage to pursue something they are truly passionate about.
The panelists discussed the difficulties of breaking into the themed entertainment industry, and they encouraged our young and talented attendees to excel at something they are deeply enthusiastic about. Whether it’s being an outstanding designer or writer, the panelists emphasized that finding your way into this world is rooted in developing your true passions with the help of the people who want to see you grow, like your colleagues, bosses, and mentors. With this, they emphasized that there are countless disciplines in this industry, so it is up to you to choose a path and learn a trade.

The target audience is both students learning the themed entertainment business, as well as more experienced TEA Members who have not yet had the opportunity to work with these specialties and to help develop a better understanding of them.
The second in this series of events about theme park design, Architecture is the next logical subject. In our first session we discussed landscape architecture as the first impression guests get as they approach a new attraction. Architecture is where all the magic happens. As the Master Builder, the Architect is responsible for the entire facility design team and has the challenge of meetings the goals and dreams of the Owner while still delivering a product that is safe, accessible, and meets all code requirements. Two of the best in the business, Coffee Polk and Andy Fastman from Cuningham have been creating immersive environments for themed attractions for years. Official Website: teaconnect.org/index.cfmTEA International Board Presidents Town Hall - April 09, 2021Themed Entertainment Association2021-04-16 | Thank you to everyone who attended last Friday. Our TEA Town Hall gatherings are intended to give everyone in the association a voice as we work to grow a truly global community. Your participation helps TEA become stronger, smarter, more culturally aware, and more universally inclusive. Every member is an integral part of the TEA - and the Town Hall gives each of us the chance to talk about how things are going, to share our progress, to recognise our growing pains and acknowledge the missteps we will make along the way.
Why a ‘Town Hall’?
In case you're not sure what a 'Town Hall' is - well, there are many definitions. it's a forum for conversation and a way to explore members’ ideas and thoughts; it's a Q & A; it's a place where the questions are posed by members and presented to TEA Leadership to answer, interpret and discuss with the participants. It's also a chance for all of us to learn and grow together to make our association the best it can be for every member.
During the Town Hall held on Friday, April 9 we discussed a wide variety of topics - most questions were posed anonymously and answered first by members of the Executive Committee, with other TEA Leaders from Divisional Boards, the International Board, and those serving on various Committees contributing to the conversations and discussions. Here are some of the TEA Town Hall hot topics:
- Promoting increased global participation in the TEA through consistent messaging, focussing on dynamic global perspectives and improving cultural awareness of all leaders and members.
- Focussing on the TEA Code of Conduct as we transition back to in-person events. TEA needs to post clear guidelines and identify how they will be enforced. In addition, identifying methods of reporting and taking action when a participant’s personal space is violated. Identifying who each of us can to turn when we need help and how this all plays out regarding our many global cultures.
- We talked about Cultural considerations on every level and the work we have yet to do - in marketing, communications, knowledge-sharing and in all of our events.
- The need to cultivate a diversity of candidates for the TEA IBoard from various regions with improved methods to get to know our nominees. Suggestions included videos, in addition to bios, as a way to learn more about candidates running for a Board position.
- The search for the new Executive Director: there has been an exceptional number of qualified candidates. We discussed what we're looking for: someone with a strong vision, well qualified, with international and multi-cultural experience and someone that has the leadership and organizational skills to position TEA for growth.
We want to hear from you!
Now that you've watched Friday's Town Hall - or watched it again, we want to know what did you think? What future topics would you like to see covered and who else would you like to hear from? We want YOUR feedback!
Check your social media and email for the time/place of our next Town Hall and get your questions ready to submit... and definitely join us for the discussion.
TEA is all about you and this is your Town Hall.
See you there!A Special Recorded Message from our TEA International Board President, Chuck FawcettThemed Entertainment Association2021-03-31 | Hello to our TEA global members and colleagues,
We are over a year into the global pandemic and already a quarter of the way through 2021, and now there is optimism in sight for our industry. I will be honest though. It's tough right now for the TEA. We are short staffed, and our volunteer leaders are working long hours behind the scenes to bring you the quality of membership that you are accustomed to. Together, I know we will get there, and while it may take some time for many of us to recover, I do want to share with you the progress that the TEA has made to support each of you.
First, we continue to listen to you and identify the best ways for TEA to support our industry, and you, the members that make up the TEA extended family. Next week we have another great opportunity to do just that, to listen to you and other members in our next Town Hall meeting where we get to talk about our future together.
Second, I want to update you on several things that are going on behind the scenes in our association. TEA leadership and staff are committed to making this time of transition as transparent and effective as possible. Here are a few highlights that I can share:
We are exploring ways to connect our digital events with in-person gatherings that will help bring us back together as we move through 2021. You can look forward to our upcoming digital SATE programming along with regional in-person SATE events and an opportunity to celebrate our Thea awards with digital case studies launching this summer.
TEA is also expanding its footprint to support the growth of our industry in some very important global markets. Currently, we are finalizing plans to bring a strong TEA presence to the growing markets in China and the Middle East. These efforts are helping the organization learn how to increase our global presence and expand support to these very important members.
We are working hard and fast to hire our next TEA Executive Director, and our Search Committee is actively accepting resumes and qualifying some great candidates. While this may take a little more time than some of us might like, hiring the right leader the right way is essential to our future.
I want to say a special thank you to our TEA staff partners Tammie Richards, Linda Hamm and Sarah Barges. Their tireless work navigating through these challenging times is greatly appreciated. We are also excited to announce the hiring of two new full-time staff members Terry Lacson and Betsy Powell to help with ongoing programming, marketing, and member support.
TEA is committed to leading a diverse, inclusive and equitable industry and association. Like many organizations, this is both long overdue and challenging, and there is no doubt we will make some mistakes along the way, but I am confident in our Diversity and Inclusion Committee to get us there.
TEA is also renewing its commitment to strong and effective member engagement. To that end, we have launched a whole new series of committees to focus on specific needs as well as to harness the power and energy from even more of our volunteer leaders:
We have created a Sponsorship Committee to help solidify our financial strength as well as maximize the benefits that sponsors are receiving.
We heard you loud and clear about events, marketing and communications, and the TEA website - so we have formed committees and a task force to ensure that we are being responsive to our members and your feedback.
We are also looking at new ways to support our members that are new to our industry through our Next Gen Committee, and our TEA Masters will be launching a new educational series later this spring.
We are now bringing all of our Division leaders together to coordinate our global activities so we can continue to improve the value of all programming and member services across the globe.
I want to thank all of you who have stepped up to be part of this effort and encourage more of you to get involved. If you want to volunteer your time, please reach out to your regional boards and they will help you.
Like our members and the industry at large, TEA’s finances were hit hard in 2020 and will be down again in 2021. We will continue to control our costs and are benefitting greatly from strong membership renewals and even stronger sponsor support.
Please remember that your membership is the foundation that will make all of this happen, and I want to thank you again for making that commitment to the TEA.
Best regards,
Chuck Fawcett International Board President TEA – Themed Entertainment Association
