They travelled approximately 238,900 miles to get there. This BMW R90S has travelled 240,000 miles – comfortably the distance to the surface of the moon.To review this iconic BMW airhead, we went to the Observatory Science Centre in Herstmonceux, East Sussex. Amazingly, many of the calculations that made the Apollo 11 moon landing mission possible were performed here in the late 1960s, with the data then adapted to NASA’s launch site in Cape Canaveral, Florida.The BMW R90S reinvented BMW as a maker of exciting and interesting motorcycles. Up until its launch in 1973, BMW bikes were considered conservative and rather staid. The R90S changed all that with its striking style, ample performance and evocative paintwork.
