Thrifty Thursday slow stitch vintage haul from Alpine Victoria #thriftythursday #slowstitching Create and craft with Christine 2025-08-28 | This was a Thrifty Thursday video I made last week while in Alpine Victoria which is such a beautiful and peaceful part of the world. I could have never anticipated the events of this week in Porepunkah and send my thoughts out to the Emergency Services, families and communities impacted by the senseless shooting. I honour those who serve on behalf of the community and hold all those continuing to serve in protection of the community in my thoughts. We returned from Bright last weekend before the events unfolded. A week ago I was walking along the river at Porepunkah with Travers enjoying the winter sun, the fresh crisp air and the calm of a flowing river. It is such a special place and it always will be. Make fabric from paper | Japanese Momigami | Exciting new project #slowstitching #upcycling Create and craft with Christine 2025-07-05 | In this video I show you how you can turn paper into fabric that you can use for embroidery or slow stitching. The method that I am sharing is called Momigami or Japanese paper kneading. It’s relaxing to do and a great way to create a new medium for stitching into. I’m also sharing the first of what will be a series of textile art and slow stitching pieces celebrating the history of Melbourne where I live. I’m using old street directory pages as my base and then stitching imagery or words to capture history. This first piece celebrates the Skipping Girl neon sign known as Audrey. Scrap fabric Bojagi patchwork sail boat | Hand stitched Pojagi #scrapideas #slowstitching Create and craft with Christine 2025-07-01 | In this video I share how I am using the Bojagi or Pojagi patchwork liberty fabric piece to create the sails for a textile art sail boat for an upcoming art exhibition. In the video I show how I have put the sail boat together and how I’m working on the wake behind the sail boat using threads and some trim. This follows from the previous video in this series where I introduced you to Bojagi or Pojagi patchwork which is a traditional Korean textile art used to make a reuseable wrapping cloth. It’s a fantastic technique as you end up with a patchwork with fully finished seams where the front and back both look beautiful. #slowstitching In the previous video I demonstrated the SSamsol Jogakbo or flat felled seam technique using hand stitching which is perfect for our slow stitching projects. Slow stitch snail | Scrap project | Community Quilt #slowstitching #scrapfabric @artyfartyannie Create and craft with Christine 2025-06-22 | Sharing an easy slow stitching project to create a slow stitch snail that can be a quilt block, added to a slow stitch project or a sign for your craft room or studio. My slow stitch snail will. D heading off the the UK on a big adventure to join the Community Quilt project being organised by Annie from @artyfartyannie The quilt will ultimately be auctioned to raise funds for charity so I’m thrilled to be part of it. In the video I show how you can use small scraps to create miniature Suffolk puffs or yo-yos and use them to shape a snails shell with finger crochet outline. I also share how you can use felting techniques to combine cotton threads to use for the snails body under tulle. I also share the simple slow stitching stitches to complete the project. I share ideas for slow stitching working on the surface of the piece after laying down foundation stitches. #slowstitching #fabricscraps #textileart This piece is inspired by Monet and his beautiful gardens at Giverny in France which feature beautiful ponds filled with water lilies and arching bridges. I really enjoyed experimenting with a new approach to slow stitching and have lots of ideas for how I would like to adapt this approach to other textile art works. This piece was donated to the Incognito Art Show which featured over 22,000 art works for sale to support artists with disabilities. Such a great cause and I was delighted to discover my art work sold! Make a chatelaine thimble keep & secret pocket | slow stitch mini dress #slowstitching #scrapideas Create and craft with Christine 2025-05-18 | In this video I show how you can make a thimble holder and secret pocket inspired by the 1800s Victorian chatelaines that were treasures of the women of that era. My idea uses felt and vintage braids to create a decorative miniature gown or dress that holds a thimble and has an extra pocket in which you can keep something like a piece of ric rac or thread.I was inspired in part by Cathe Holden and her little jackets and clothes she creates using slow stitching and embroidery, featuring vintage trims abs embellishments. Textile coral project using scraps, laces & dyed doilies | Fleur Woods inspired #slowstitching Create and craft with Christine 2025-05-05 | In this video I show how you can create textural elements for either a large scale or small brooch sized coral reef piece using laces, scraps and dyed pieces. You’ll be amazed how many pieces you might have in your scraps that you can use for this easy slow stitching and textile & fibre art project. I’m inspired by the Nature’s Textures workshop I did with Fleur Woods a year and a bit ago at the beautiful Green Door Studios. In this piece I am using my own techniques to create lots of texture, vibrant colour and interest. It’s great fun taking an idea and then evolving your own creative practice. Once you cut out the shapes you can add slow stitching detail and then stitch them together using a range of different stitches.I also show how you can finger crochet a little necklace for the rabbits and make a stuffed button using a Suffolk puff or yoyo. Textile Art | mark making | craft room thread storage #slowstitching Post Fleur Woods Retreat Create and craft with Christine 2025-03-24 | In this video I share how I store by threads and yarns in my craft room or studio for ease of access for this project. I also show how to do a pinwheel or spiderweb decorative stitch to create a fascinating circle or oval that is particularly effective with variegated thread. I also share kantha stitching as a stitch to link two pieces of fabric collage together as well as how you can add cross stitched to create a border for an area. After all of the excitement, inspiration and joy of the Fleur Woods Textile and Fibre Art Retreat I couldn’t resist continuing to create and draw on the energy from the retreat. It was such an incredible week with Fleur Woods fibre artist extraordinaire at the beautiful Green Door studios hosted by Zoe Wood. #slowstitching #artretreatIn this video I share continuing work on my textile and slow stitch collage piece that I will be progressively slow stitching heavily with lots of different stitches in differing combinations and using a variety of yarns, threads and wools. This piece is inspired by the fruit prompt for Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery still life project. In this video I show you how you can use fabric scraps to make shapes and motifs like figs to use as part of your slow stitching projects. The project I will be using these figs for is the Still Life project for Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery which has the prompt of fruit. #Roxysjournalofstitchery #slowstitching I’m using steam a seam lite 2 to collage my scrap fabrics. The technique is inspired by the lovely Emily from @CollageQuilter who creates amazing pieces and shares her approach here on YouTube and through her books. The figs are my own design and I really enjoyed playing with how to create light and shadow with scraps of fabric.
