Things like server restarts are almost a guarantee for problems (though the stations in unloaded chunks are always safe). I don't think it will work reliably on smp, but I'll do tests.- Previously, people already threw enderpearls up into the air and instantly unloaded the chunks to keep the enderpearls preserved. Then you could load the chunks from far away and get teleported there. The issues that make that a nice trick but not practically usable are 1. you can never load the chunk the enderpearl is in, making it impossible for even half-way close distances, and 2. no wireless redstone, which limits you to fixed input.- I tested how laggy loading many chunks at once in a line is, and I noticed no performance decrease whatsoever. Cause that can mess it up.- Yeah, you have to sign the book with something so I just chose the letter "a". All items are just written in lower case.- This thing actually causes practically no lag unless you can look at it. So if this was underground and you wouldn't see it, your fps would be almost the same as if it wasn't there. This is thanks to a relatively recent change in rendering behaviour, the game only renders stuff you can potentially see. I gave each item 6 double chests but I doubt that even 20 would be a big problem. Unless you look at them. Then you might crash :)- This was actually probably the biggest project I ever did. I did put in all the books and set up all the item sorters. I can watch the thing work for hours but for the video I decided to only use two demonstrations to not make it too long and boring. Seeing it working once or twice is enough, right? Would like feedback on that. I assure you, it's absolutely reliable, even though I know nobody on this planet would actually build it :P- This only works in singleplayer. Well, it works on multiplayer but only one single person can use it. This is because when you sign a book, another signed book will only stack if it has the same content *and* is written by the same author.Random anecdote nobody wants to know about:I first wanted to make a storage system where you type in what you want with a keyboard built in minecraft, something like the one I made for my wireless keyboard thing. The plan was to make everything happen pretty much instantly, you type and get the items within 0.3 seconds or so. That idea just turned out to be too ridiculous, storing 400 26-different-character combinations using almost only instant-wire, instant keyboard, instant display etc... in the end, typing the item in a book which is way faster than using an MC keyboard seemed like the better idea. This means, you can't have mobs inside extended piston heads which face a different direction than your piston bolt, or any other entities. You can also have NO piston extended in a different direcion in the same chunk as the piston bolt rail. If you simply cannot find the source why it's not reliable, you can, instead of using the mechanism I showed, fire an arrow into an extended piston of the correct orientation. Arrow updating overpowers all other types of updates. You can simply use a dispenser which fires an arrow into the piston. And even though arrows despawn after 1 minute, you don't have to worry about the arrow still being stuck there if you want to go the other way: the last arrow which was fired overrides the update of the arrow before. And please make sure you are in Minecraft 1.8.6 or above.BUT (potential isssues): The problem I have with testing these designs is that I have a very, very good computer. I now used this in a build of mine and it did not work reliably. This was due to a huge amount of redstone on a pretty fast clock (in the end, tons of redstone was turning on and off every tick) togther with a ton of instantwire being triggered. This causes huge amounts of lag. This type of lag can cause it to fail apparently (though only in big amounts), latency issues are no problem as you are sitting in a minecart. But if you can, do build a test version in creative first to see if your computer is fine with it (it really should be). The problem on servers is that the amount of strain depends on how many players are online, you will have to make the decision if it's worth it, if your server is powerful and consistent enough, it will be absolutely no problem either. But please, do tests!Other random info:It was stupid of me not to include a tutorial in my update video, sorry about that. I was either too lazy or didn't have time... or didn't find it important, I don't know... anyways, please do tell me if it worked well for you, when you upload a design people tend to only leave feedback if something *didn't* work :PYes, test137E29 came up with the first of these types of designs, which were diagonal. But I did not come up with this with test's designs in mind, I was trying all sorts of wild stuff when I realised that this may work if you use curved rails. No pistons were being updated all the time, and in my survival world it was basically the only thing I had in the nether, so yeah. The hitbox just remained intact.-Does this work on multiplayer? Yes, perfectly. No guarantees for bukkit, should work without this fix though at the moment.- The diagonal designs are completely broken (the concept that test137e29 came up with and I altered). They can work okay for short distances but they will fail over distances of like 50m, guaranteed.- The fact that the minecart moves at 20m/s is really impossible without other glitchy rail and piston behaviour, but this design has worked for solid 5 full updates now, so I daresay it's pretty future-proof (and Mojang changed a LOT of stuff about pistons in almost every update).HOW TO BUILD:1. Build the piston bolt design from this tutorial video I made, ignore everything I said about reliability, just build it :P And make sure you build the *Bolt*, not the diagonal one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhfWGoEm6LA&feature=youtu.be&t=1m58s2. At the start of your Bolt, place one of those creeper cells that I showed in this video, with the two pistons *facing to the direction of travel, same direction as the pistons in your bolt*.-Important, I used a named creeper because creepers make no sound. You can use any mob that fits in there (I'd recommend a 2 high mob) or simply put a minecart in the "cell", with the pistons pushing into the minecart. Just leave the pistons powered.-You *only* need to update the piston's hitboxes at the beginning, as the minecart you are riding will constantly touch the pistons of the bolt and always update the hitboxes.-If you have any problems with the creeper "cell" idea (which I doubt), you can always fire an arrow into an extended piston which also faces the direction of travel. The game knows which piston hitbox was updated last, remember that. If you build a second bolt back in the other direction, you will also have to update the hitboxes of the pistons, simply with another creeper cell rotated appropriately or another arrow fired into an extended piston, that piston also facing the direction of travel of course.-Lastly: ^ That stuff I stated is not necessarily all fact. I do not read the game code, but I am pretty certain I have a relatively clear understanding of what's going on ;) And I guarantee this will work for you, and if I have to help you personally :PWow. If you find it works 100% perfect usually but that one odd time you only get 3 blocks high and then fall back down, relog, it can be that the chunk is loaded exceptionally weirdly. I guarantee it will almost never happen. Happened once in my survival world out of about 50 times I reloaded the chunks.3. These elevators, like most piston elevators are NOT guaranteed to work on smp at all. From my testing they can work but the success rate is not good enough to make them useful on multiplayer.4. If you tested the elevators in the world download and they just don't work reliably for you, I'm sorry, it's the way your pc works with minecraft. Should work for most people.5. About how good should my fps be? Fps wise, it can be 20 but it's the strain of the server-side (which your computer decides how much more important either client or server-side is) that determines how reliable it will be. But if you get over 40 *while riding* the elevator it should definitely work, unless your computer is totally weird :P6. Please. Please please please double check everything during building and after building. You have no idea how many complaint messages I get where afterwards the person realises he/she did a stupid mistake. This device works completely vanilla 1.6.2.The crazy BUD switch part does not work on servers.This IS the only working wireless redstone design in 1.6.2 to my knowledge.
