Step By Step Piano AMV Gavin Leeper 2021-06-25 | I cut together wintery scenes from some of my favorite anime and made an anime music video (AMV) for the piano version of Step by Step.This was such a fun process, because it was essentially like scoring an anime, but in reverse!It helps to tell a bit more of the narrative of the song, which involves our heroine on a mysterious winter night on the tundra. She realizes her friend is still out there, and goes looking for her. Along the way, she encounters moments of strife and conflict, but also of peace and mysticism. After a struggle to save her friend, things end on a note of mystery.

Interview w/ Prof. Noriko Manabe Gavin Leeper 2021-06-04 | I had a lovely conversation with Japanese ethnomusicologist Prof. Noriko Manabe on various aspects of contemporary Japanese music. We talk about taiko, Japanese hip-hop, Hisaishi, Philip Ewell's work as explored in Adam Neely's video about white supremacy in music theory, "Japaneseness" in music, and the historical reasons behind why frameworks like jazz theory work so well to describe modern Japanese music.
