I was delighted to be able to collaborate with MusicalBasics for this latest video. We decided that he would write a piece in 1 hour and that I would finish it. I ended up putting my own mark on the music, but I kept the harmonic and melodic framework. It was really fun to be able to do this project as I haven't tried anything like it on YouTube before.
As part of the project, I was asked to imagine a story for the anime character. This is what I came up with:
This piece is about the struggle of being separated from the people you love. I imagine the anime character being forced to walk a lonely path by an otherworldly force. The music reflects their struggle to find their way home by trying to understand this force that is holding them back.Through overcoming a series of challenges, they are able to find the strength to return home, but only after numerous failed attempts and dangerous encounters. I thought a piece like this would be especially fitting during this time of coronavirus since lots of people feel disconnected to others around them. I hope it can uplift the spirit of anyone who feels this way and give them hope.
To convey the subtle changes in mood of the anime character, I was very specific in the harmonies I chose while thinking about changing the textures or harmonies. Contrasting more flowing textures with lilting or static passages also adds to these subtleties. For the changes between battle-like and more lyrical melodies, I added transitions and buildup textures to intensify the mood, and I wrote delicate, intimate motifs for the beginning and end.

For my final video of 2020, I was delighted to collaborate with the channel Mikecrack and arrange the piano version of their awesome rewind video (link here: youtube.com/watch?v=TwKjfoLQqJI). This was a really fun piece to write, and it was a nice challenge to arrange and play.
YouTube, it's been a while! Things have been pretty crazy in my life recently so I haven't been able to upload as much as I'd like, but I'm hoping that will change soon.
This piece is one that I started learning many years ago and is an absolutely gorgeous piece of music. Ravel's Jeux d'eau (or "water games") is the piece in question—what a work of art! The genius of this music lies partly in the ingenuity of the textures he used to evoke water and partly in the gorgeous harmonies and breadth of characters throughout the piece. It's definitely not easy to play, but it's worth the effort in the end.
Since I've been so busy with life things recently that I decided to re-record my arrangement of Prince Ali for my latest video. It's such a great track from Aladdin and it's so fun to play. It's also one of the more popular arrangements on my channel, so I wanted to do a new and improved version since the last one was recorded over a year ago (I was only recording at 720p and 30fps in my previous one!). Hope you enjoy this 2020 version!
Apologies for the lack of uploads and arrangements recently—things have just been really, really busy as I've been moving apartments over the past few weeks. Hopefully things will settle down a bit now and I'll be able to get back to more content with original arrangements.
This Chopin Étude is the first from the Op. 10 set and is commonly given the nickname the "Waterfall" étude. It's extremely difficult for many reasons, not least of which is the constant stretching in the right hand to actually be able to play it. It also requires stamina, a ton of accuracy, and—most of all—a broad sense of the overall harmonic progression to make it sound musical (and not just a bunch of fast notes). I first learned this piece when I was about 12 years old, and I've always loved the challenge of playing it.
Apologies for the lack of uploads lately. Things have been really busy for me over the past month. I didn't have time to write a new arrangement for this latest upload, so I decided to record the Mozart/Thalberg arrangement of "Lacrimosa" instead. This is an amazingly beautiful piece of music (some of you might remember it from the movie "Amadeus"—if not, check it out!).
Written on three staves, this piece is deceptively difficult. The biggest challenge is to balance the melodic line with the rest of the texture, which is often very thick and spread between the hands. Keeping a nice pace so that the lyricism can shine through is also a challenge.
Also, since this has been a particularly difficult time in the world for a lot of people, I added in something a little different to the video. Stay safe everyone. 🎼🎶🎶🎼

I've wanted to cover this awesome theme by John Williams for a long time. Hedwig's Theme is arguably THE iconic Harry Potter piece. It's an extremely beautiful melody, and it deserved a lot of attention, so I took some extra time to make this one as perfect as I could. In this arrangement, I added quite a few virtuosic runs to add to the epicness of the theme. It turned out quite Lisztian, so I decided to include that in the video title. I also reharmonised the tune in a few places to make it my own. Enjoy!

This is a gorgeous track with a deceptively hard left hand accompaniment all the way through. Since the original track features a piano, I thought it would be good to stick pretty tightly to the structure and melody at the beginning. After that, I played around with the harmonies a bit more and added a more full, virtuosic version. Link for the sheet music is available above.
This video is part of a VERSUS series. Please check out my opponents' versions here:
Everyone's done their version of the song from this meme so far, so I thought I should give it a go too! This is from the infamous "Coffin Dance" video. The original song is actually called "Astronomia" and was written by Tony Igy (real name Anton Igumnov).
The easy level is just the tune split between the hands, but there are four more levels after that. The final level is by far the most difficult—it's fast, it has lots of jumps, tricky textures, flourishes, octaves, and big chords, among other tasty pianistic traps. If you try to play this piece, let me know what level you get to!
This video was part of a VERSUS series where I go head to head against other YouTubers. Check out my opponent's version here: youtu.be/y0XPBe5I1d8
This song is from the awesome scene in Stranger Things season 3 where Dustin and Suzie sing The NeverEnding Story (originally sung by Limahl in the 1984 movie, "The NeverEnding Story"). I wanted to cover this because the tune is a classic and the writers of Stranger Things place it so well in the series. My arrangement starts off with a cadenza-like flourish that leads into the main melody. Since it's a pretty repetitive tune, I played around with the harmonies and textures here and there each time the tune repeats. The last time through is the trickiest to play, but even that fits under the hands pretty well in my opinion.
To celebrate the remake of Final Fantasy VII, I put together this arrangement of the full opening theme. It's one of my longest arrangements so far (as you can see from the sheets), so it was definitely tricky to record and get a good take in a short amount of time. I stuck to the basic structure of the original track (intro, A, B, A, C, A), though I changed around a few things here and there to make it more pianistic. I took the main theme and played with the texture each time it comes back, making it pretty virtuosic at times. This is an advanced arrangement, but beginner players might enjoy playing through the main theme by itself from the sheets. Let me know if you try to learn it, I'd love to hear how it goes!

This arrangement was put together to celebrate the release of Doom Eternal two weeks ago. It turned out to be a really difficult theme to arrange, but it was a ton of fun. Link to the sheet music is above (as usual), but be warned: This is not for the faint of heart! There are a lot of technical challenges in this piece—the last two pages are especially tricky. It's worth it if you can pull it off, but it takes practice. Let me know if you're up for the challenge in the comments!

This is a gorgeous track from the Disney/Pixar movie, Coco. I wanted to make an arrangement of this song ever since I saw the film, so I finally said I would sit down and write it. The original composers, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, did an amazing job with this simple but beautiful melody. Even though it's short, the chord progression is ingenious and the melody complements it perfectly. In my arrangement, I included a simple version at the start that has a very short intro. The music then morphs into a more virtuosic version, which was really fun to play.
This is a retake of the cover that's already available on my channel. I thought I'd make another recording of it to test out the new visual effects in the video, especially since the original cover is so old now. I think the visuals still need some tweaking, but I still thought this video would be worth uploading for you guys to see. I'm going for a more epic look with the effects to make them appear more intense. Let me know what you think of them in the comments!
A little while ago, Musinotes (my sheet music publisher) reached out to me to ask if I would do a sponsored video for them. They have been very supportive of me and my channel since its launch, so I was happy to write an arrangement for them. The piece we decided on was Lewis Capaldi's beautiful "Someone You Loved." It's a beautiful piece, and I had a lot of fun arranging it. This arrangement gets tricky towards the end, but I think it's worthwhile to learn the whole thing.
I decided to do this Dance Monkey (sad piano version) arrangement since I've seen a few people do covers of it now—it's such a catchy song! I tried to use the same basic harmony as the original song, and I included the main tune in its original form. To make it more of a sad version though, I embellished the melody when repeating it, and I elaborated the accompanimental textures to make them more moody. It's also quite a bit slower than the tempo of the original. All of the elements of the Tones and I version are there, but they're disguised to make a more contemplative and introverted piece.
I decided to put this piano arrangement of Toss A Coin To Your Witcher together since I just recently started watching the series and loved this track. There's a lot of repetition in the original, so I tried to vary the textures and add countermelodies to spice it up a bit while still keeping the beautiful melody to the fore. It ended up being a pretty challenging arrangement to play, since there are lots of big jumps in the left hand at the end and quite a few fast runs throughout. It's definitely more suited for advanced players, but less experienced players could also enjoy tackling the first few pages!
This is a piano arrangement of the Ballad Of The Goddess from the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that was originally meant to be part of a three-way versus. Since I didn't get a chance to record it before Christmas though, I'm doing a solo upload now. I actually wrote this arrangement in the summer of 2019, which is when we originally planned to do the versus, but the plan got delayed for different reasons.
It was really interesting to play an old arrangement of mine. I can see how my arranging style has changed even since I wrote this piece. The structure of this one is relatively simple compared to my more recent arrangements, and the textures—although they're still difficult to play—are less complex. It's a short but challenging arrangement that captures the energy of the original song.
I decided to put this Star Wars piano medley together over the past week to celebrate the release of the new movie. Since there was such huge anticipation of Episode 9, I tried to make the arrangement equally epic! As a result, I chose four of the most iconic themes from Star Wars as a whole and put them together. Modulating between the different keys of the themes was a fun challenge—I think the frequent changes heightened the improvisatory elements of the music. I wrote pretty tricky piano textures for each of the themes, so be warned! This arrangement is quite advanced.

To celebrate the release of the much-anticipated Frozen 2, I decided to cover one of its new songs. This Frozen 2 "Into the Unknown" piano cover was fun to put together, but it was tricky to keep the epicness of the original—you can let me know if I succeeded or not! The opening figure in the original track is actually pretty tricky to play consistently in one hand because of the syncopations and big jumps. Add to this the fast left-hand textures I decided to add in and you have a pretty difficult arrangement! Do not try at home unless you have many practice hours available!
Happy Halloween everyone! For the most spooktacular event of the year, my fellow YouTuber and friend Erik and I decided to do a special medley versus round, resulting in a Luigi's Mansion Medley piano showdown! To celebrate the new game's release today, we mixed themes from all three Luigi's Mansion games in a cauldron to see what the result would be. The result is, needless to say, spooktastic!
For mine, I used the main themes from all three games and arranged them in chronological order. All three are creepy themes, so I didn't make them too virtuosic, since I wanted to make sure stay true to the mysterious quality of the music. The one flashy section in this arrangement is in between the themes from the second and third games, where a modulation from A minor to E-flat minor was necessary—a tritone away, very spooky! I also included a tribute to a special Russian friend of mine in this arrangement, so see if you can spot it. :)

To celebrate, Erik Correll and I recorded this special-edition Spooky Scary Skeletons piano cover for four hands. Erik wrote this amazing arrangement that follows the structure of the original theme while also making the textures very pianistic and interesting to play. We've played other four-hand pieces together in the past, and it's such a fun way to collaborate. I decided to make an Addams Family Theme piano cover to celebrate the release of the new animated movie that came out very recently. I haven't seen it yet, but I was always a huge fan of the Addams Family, and the theme is iconic, so I decided to make an arrangement. Since the theme is so short, I decided to play around with it a bit. I included a jazzy section in the middle, based on elements of the theme, and I also played around with the harmonic structure in places. It's mostly not too difficult to play (except for some tricky things at the end), so most people should be able to try it out. This is the first of a few Halloween-themed arrangements for this month, so I hope you enjoy it!

However you see it, though, Kapustin's Concert Étude No. 1 is definitely a major challenge for any pianist. It's fast and requires a huge amount of dexterity and stamina. It also has to be intensely rhythmic for all the syncopations to be effective. On top of all that, the chords are huge and the texture frequently jumps all over the keyboard, while at the same time, the musical expression has to be clear and shaped effectively. Try it if you dare!

I hope you all enjoy my Other Friends piano cover. I decided to do this song after following a suggestion I read in the comments and fell in love with the track. It has a lot of similarities to Friend Like Me from Aladdin, since they both share the same basic chord progression with a characteristic augmented sixth chord. This song, however, is darker and eerier than the song in Aladdin, with is suitable, since it is sung by Spinel, the villain in the Steven Universe movie. The original track has a lot of electronic influences and has a strong rhythmic backing, so I tried to keep the same feel in my arrangement. My version is basically in two main sections, separated by a slower 'oasis' segment at the start and in the middle. The slower sections are moody and dark, and the faster sections are energetic and quite tricky to play since the melody is very dynamic and has a lot of jumps. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
I decided to record Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 on the spur of the moment to test out the new visual effects I have been working on for the channel. Over the past few days, I have been playing around with the particle effects to make them more intense and realistic, and I think it turned out pretty well in the end, though it still might need a few tweaks here and there. This Chopin nocturne is a gorgeous piece, and I thought the moody atmosphere would suitable for the new effects. Let me know what you think of the new look in the comments below!

I hope you'll all enjoy my Gerudo Valley piano cover. This is a great little tune from Ocarina of Time that has some exotic elements in it, such as the flamenco-like guitar accompaniment. I felt that the repetitiveness of this music is quite important to its overall effect, so I stuck closely to the original structure and included repeats in my arrangement. It was a challenge to try to keep the exotic character of the original, but I think keeping it simple was a good solution in the end.

I hope you all enjoy my extended Stranger Things piano cover. Although I uploaded another version of this quite recently, I decided to make a longer and more elaborate version of this piece because it's such a great theme to play around with. In this version, I expanded both the opening and closing sections with material based on the two main chords of the piece, and I altered the melody in the middle to make it even more expressive. Many of the textures and other subtleties are also different. I tried to keep the overall atmosphere similar to that of the original theme. This version is slightly more pianistically challenging than the first version, but I think it's worth the extra effort. Let me know what you think of it in the comments below.
I hope you all enjoy my performance of Debussy's Clair de Lune from the Suite Bergamasque. I decided to do this impromptu video today to test out the new look I have given to my videos. I thought it was time to upgrade to full 1080p HD footage, and I wanted to update my in and out screens too. Let me know what you think of the new look in the comments below!
Debussy's Clair de Lune is one of the most well-known classical pieces in the repertoire. It consists of four movements—Clair de Lune is the third. Debussy began writing the suite in 1890, but he didn't publish it until 1905. The title means 'moonlight'; Debussy captures this in the still outer sections with lilting chords and and soft dynamics. The entire piece is lyrical and delicate, requiring nuances of touch and careful pacing.
I hope you'll all enjoy my Luma piano cover from Super Mario Galaxy. This is a great little nostalgic track from the game, originally scored for a glockenspiel-like synth. The original has a very delicate sound, and I tried to emulate that in my arrangement. I decided to make the outer two sections of the piece slower, like the original track, but I gave the middle section a more complex left-hand texture to give it more forward momentum.

I have wanted to make a piano cover of Romantic Flight from How to Train Your Dragon for a while. This is such a beautiful piece, with a gorgeous melody and beautiful harmony. I'm surprised John Powell didn't win an Academy Award for the whole soundtrack of the movie. For my arrangement, I focused on keeping the melody prominent and the accompaniment relatively simple, since the melody carries most of the expressive power. The climax in the middle has triplets in the left hand, but these become pretty manageable after a bit of practice. I hope you all enjoy my cover of this beautiful song.
I hope you'll all enjoy my piano cover of the Interstellar main theme. I chose to arrange this track because I'm a big Hans Zimmer fan. In the movie, the entire piece is based around three chords that are supported by rich orchestral textures. In the arrangement, I aimed to make each iteration of the progression different so that the piece would remain texturally interesting. I also added melodies and countermelodies that I thought suited the natural expression of the harmony. Because of the wide range of voices that occur at the same time, there are some hand crossings that make this piece a bit of a challenge at first, but you get used to them!
I hope you all enjoy my piano cover of 'Under the Sea' from The Little Mermaid. I thought I would make an arrangement for this song because Disney recently announced that they will be making a live-action version of it. 'Under the Sea' is a great tune from the original movie that I think really encapsulates the spirit of the movie as a whole. Alan Menken was the composer for this track, which is fitting, since I have been covering so many of his songs lately. The piece is very dancelike, so I thought I would focus on that as I was thinking about textures and rhythms. I added in a few spicy harmonies here and there, since the melody gets quite repetitive, but I was always aiming to keep it within the broader character of the music.

I hope you enjoy my version of Naomi Scott's 'Speechless' (piano sheet music below) from the movie Aladdin. This was composed by Alan Menken for the 2019 movie release, and it was performed by Scott as part of her role playing Princess Jasmine. In the movie soundtrack, the song is backed by strings, giving it a full, rich sound. I tried to capture this richness in the harmonies of this arrangement and the accompanimental patterns. It turned out well in the end, but this was a tough one to record!
This piano cover of the Final Fantasy 'Prelude' was a tricky one to put together because of the repeated arpeggiated pattern that occurs throughout the theme. The harp plays this famous figure in the orchestral version of Nobuo Uematsu's theme. It really could be dubbed an 'étude' of sorts, especially since the technical difficulties of the arpeggiation are so similar to some of Chopin's études. Either way, it's ultimately the harmonic progression and lyrical melody that carry this music forward, which I tried to keep central in my arrangement.
This arrangement was also part of a versus series I do with my friend and fellow YouTuber, Erik Correll, where we go head to head to see whose arrangement reigns supreme! Check out Erik's version here: youtube.com/watch?v=7g2Sk9XWhwk
I hope you all enjoy my much-requested Friend Like Me piano tutorial. I decided to do this one in celebration of hitting 4,000 subscribers, since it is such an upbeat, fun piece! For this arrangement, I took inspiration from the original 1992 version, which was performed by Robin Williams. I tried to include the extroverted spirit Williams created in his version, which I think is part of the essence of the song. I also added some jazzy harmonies to the syncopated rhythms and dancelike melody to give it some extra zest. The original was recorded halfway between concert D and E-flat, but it was closer to E-flat minor, so I decided to go with that for the key!

To celebrate the release of the new Toy Story movie and hitting 3K subscribers on my channel, I made a jazzed-up arrangement of You've Got a Friend in Me (piano sheet music below). I covered this earlier this year, but it wasn't my own arrangement. This world-famous tune, originally written by Randy Newman, features in all the Toy Story films and has a natural swinging rhythm that makes it excellent to arrange for the piano. In my version, I added a small introduction and changed around the harmonies in places to make it more jazzy. The end result is a catchy arrangement that is really fun to play. I hope you like it!
In celebration of the release of the new season, here is my arrangement of the Stranger Things Theme (piano sheet music below). This famous theme is quite simple, based on a C major seven chord that is arpeggiated in the right hand. This is harmonised by a bass line that moves between three main notes: C, E, and B. Since the theme is so short, I added in a melody that I thought was suitable to make it a bit more substantial while still trying to keep the atmosphere of the original theme.

I hope you enjoy my 'The Circle of Life' piano cover. Since the new movie is coming out soon, I thought I would make my own rendition to celebrate its release. Elton John originally composed this piece for the soundtrack to the 1994 animated Disney film. It is an iconic track and was used in the first trailer of the 2019 remake, to be performed by Lindiwe Mkhize. In my arrangement, I open with a grand gesture, mimicking the opening of the original song. The melody is chordal and highly expressive with some tricky left-hand textures. The piece builds to a climax with some virtuosic passagework.

This Saria's Song/Lost Woods piano tutorial is part of a versus series with Erik Correll and Zebeldarebel, where we each make our own arrangements of a song to see whose version reigns supreme! Saria's Song is a great track from the Zelda OST. In my version, I start with a virtuosic introduction - I decided to include this as a contrast to the simplicity of the main theme. Then, the theme occurs three times. First, it is presented in its original form, then with a few embellishments and varied textures, and finally in a slower section at the end, where it takes on a new form in an expressive, chordal passage.
I thought I would cover this song because it is such an epic track - Avengers: Endgame (Portals). Piano sheet music available below. Originally written by Alan Silvestri, an Oscar-nominated and Grammy award-winning composer, the track has a huge buildup section before the main theme arrives. I tried to capture this buildup effectively by using the same basic structure, adding only a few minor alterations. The orchestral texture was difficult to translate effectively into piano writing, but I think it turned out well in the end.

This Minecraft piano medley uses three themes: Mice on Venus, Sweden, and Wet Hands. In the spirit of the game, all are slow and peaceful. I highlighted the lyricism of these beautiful tunes to bring out their expressive qualities as much as possible. Let's celebrate 10 years of this amazing game! These melodies were originally written by C418 (a.k.a. Daniel Rosenfeld).
I hope you'll enjoy this Prince Ali piano tutorial from Disney's Aladdin. Since the new version was recently released, I thought it was a good opportunity for me to cover this fun piece. Originally written by Alan Menken for the soundtrack to the 1992 movie, the piece features many interesting harmonies and three modulations, making it interesting to play around with. I decided to add in a few virtuosic runs into the the textures to make it even more grandiose. Hope you enjoy!

This theme, from the DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon series, is one of the most epic soundtracks of recent films. I have included the How to Train Your Dragon piano sheet music below. I had to make an arrangement of it because it's so beautiful. John Powell really deserved an award for the music, but he lost the Academy Award for Best Original Score to The Social Network. Hope you all will enjoy my version of the Flying Theme.

This four-hand arrangement of Game of Thrones' Song of Ice and Fire (main theme) features my friend and fellow YouTuber, Erik Correll. Originally composed by Ramin Djawadi, this is one of the most well-known and popular themes on TV today. This arrangement features interesting textures and subtle chord changes to heighten the intensity of the rhythm, the driving force behind this epic theme.
Don't forget to check out the other take we did of this theme on Erik's channel: youtu.be/gBMmUVzvl2U

I hope you'll enjoy my performance of the Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor (Moonlight) 1st Movement. The music is mysterious and haunting, with slow, arpeggiated chords throughout. Beethoven writes “si deve suonare tutto questo pezzo delicatissimamente e senza sordini” at the beginning. This translates as: The entire piece should be played with the greatest delicacy and without mutes. 'Without mutes' implies that the pedal should be held throughout the first movement; however, this is not practical on modern pianos, as sustain capabilities are significantly greater than they were in Beethoven's time. Blending the notes together with the pedal helps create the moody atmosphere of this first movement.

I hope you'll enjoy this Ludovico Einaudi Una Mattina cover. Einaudi was a student of both Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen. This piece, Una Mattina, was written for the movie, The Intouchables (2011). It is a beautiful, minimalist piece, that initially centres around the skeletal notes of A minor (A and E). These open sonorities are found throughout the piece, creating the other-worldly effect.

I hope you'll enjoy my performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca, K. 331. The last movement of the sonata in A major is often known as the Rondo Alla Turca, or Turkish March. The music evokes the sound of Turkish Janissary bands; Mozart was influenced by this style of music, as is evident from some of his other compositions around the time this was written.
Enjoy this beautiful, short cover of River Flows in You by Yiruma (Lee Ru-ma) (이루마). It was featured in Twilight soundtrack (though it is not to be confused with Bella's Lullaby. Yiruma is often compared to Ludovico Einaudi, though their music differs in many ways.
