I saw my freind Fred today, the voice responsible for the bass part, and thought this might be fun to practice my banjo with. I even tried a banjo solo as I silently prayed "Lord, may Pete Seger forgive me and give me strength". Thanks for joining me in the practice room and for singing along as Pete always encouraged us to do. This is dedicated to Fred. I love you brother.Man Of Constant Sorrow by Billy Strings coverKareem Goubran2025-10-04 | This song has a great history. Love the image of being beside his mother's bed and hearing her proclaim that she has seen the rock of ages, and Jacob's ladder as she crossed the river of Jordan homeward bound. It goes without saying that I can't play like Billy but I am learning some of his licks as a way forward.Run, Squirrel, Run by Ben Maestas PDC @Aesops_Adventurers Bass RiffKareem Goubran2025-09-25 | Ben is a creative genius. I added my own as a preacher "I may be the preacher but you are my teacher I'm just a creature Lord, Standing in the need of prayer" Hope this song puts a smile on your face because somehow admitting my own need through this song put a smile on mine.If Your Hairs Too Long, Theres Sin In Your Heart by Billy Strings coverKareem Goubran2025-09-22 | My wife just gave me this fresh haircut so I thought this would be a fun one. Ray Stevens wrote this song in the 70s but Billy Strings introduced me to it and he is about all I am listening to these days. Not only is he an insane guitarist but he is teaching me the beauty of bluegrass. We always love a little humor in our music, Amen? Will The Circle Be UnbrokenKareem Goubran2025-09-21 | This is an old hymn that was reinterpreted and made popular by The Carter Family. This is the Long Island Sound and it is right beside a place we go to get natural spring water. When we return with 15 gallons from the naural spring our kids would always ask, "did you get the holy water". Wishing you all a trip to a local spot that brings you peace. We need to practice self care that is fun and restorative during these times. Thanks again Lou for your music and your constant encouragement and inspiritaiton. I have always loved this song with the deepest part of me. "Where were you when I needed you, like right now?" The lush Maj7 chords mixed with diminished, min7s etc were super fun on my 12 string so I had to give it a try once I got the 12 back after loaning it to a friend. Stevie Wonder is even more of a genius than we can really know or comprehend.
Marcus Miller just produced a cover that reminded me how much I love this song and Stevie even plays out the song with a wicked harmonica solo. youtu.be/P8wo-xzwOmg?si=SRDZEW1CQFkR1tXSRocket Man by Jesse Welles coverKareem Goubran2025-09-17 | ...Tis So Sweet To Trust In JesusKareem Goubran2025-09-16 | DADGAD Tuning in the Rain
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!"
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I've proved Him o'er and o'er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
I'm so glad I learned to trust Him, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend; And I know that He is with me, Will be with me to the end.

A little further from shore so no ocean waves crashing into me this time. Cowboybarnman covered this song better than I think anyone has or possibly can. He asked me to give it a try which was intlmidating beyond words. What he did vocally, especially in his high range, was a thing of melodic beauty. Thank you Cowboy for inviting me to give this great tune a whirl. If I am honest, your version will always be The version for me. This one is for you Ruth. I am using my blue lava touch smart guitar with built in kung fu distortion. Thank you Ruth for your music and your encouragement.
The Dishonest Scale Will Not Prevail (Hosea 12:7-9)
Businessmen use a dishonest scale They love to cheat the poor who are left to weep and wail

It seems hopless out there that's why I am calling all you angels. "I won't give up if you don't give up".So Damn Cold by @TheEdThread coverKareem Goubran2025-09-02 | Ed Pettit is a fantastic songwriter and a wonderful singer, guitarist and harmonica player. I would celebrate any one of those skills of his if that's all he could do but he does all of them so exceptionally well that it is overwhelming. What an honor to hear his music let alone get to sing and play his songs to place them deeper in my heart. Here is his original which can not be improved upon. Thank you Ed for everything.
youtu.be/mB0M_jFzkqs?si=2-lFhbWK3bdZUqDoMy New PJ Bass (Gift from my Friend Vin Russo)Kareem Goubran2025-09-01 | My oldest and dearest friend Vinny Russo, best bassist on Long Island, gave me this bass for my birthday. I have traditionally been a jazz bass player and I would eq up the amp to give more bass or low end. This combo of a precision pickup at the neck and the jazz pickup at the bridge seems to give the perfect combination of warmth and clarity. I left the eq completely flat on my fender rumble bass amp and found that this bass may have the most balanced tone I have experienced. Vin put this together from parts. He says the neck is a jazz, the nut width for sure, but the contour of the neck is more precision. I love you Vin and I thank you so much for this amazing birthday gift. Getting to hang our and write that song together was so fun. This bass is my new go to for sure. Eternal thanks for your luthier skills in putting it together and your generosity in blessing me with it. I am overwhelmed. I can't seem to put it down. Love you Viiwwwiiiii.Isaiah 58Kareem Goubran2025-08-31 | I tried singing this scripture that is so important to me but as you can see it was a struggle, but worth doing as it planted these words of justice deeper in my heart. Thanks for joining me on this journey. I used my blue lave smart guitar with built in Black Hole effect because worshiping the God of justice while perpretating injustice by oppressing workers and ignoring the poor is like a black hole of hypocrisy. Dedicating this to Ben @Aesops_Adventurers. You requested Malachi after hearing Amos, here is Isaiah until then. I listened to your advice and came in out of the rain and drank some hot tea but my cold and the rasp in my voice remains. Appreciate you Ben. This is another passage that reminds me of @johnny_amish's song "In Vain". Thanks Johnny and Ben and thank you Graffiti Church for studying this passage with me on 9/7/25 as we begin our new series Worship? Service?
Isaiah 58 “Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast. Shout aloud! Don’t be timid. Tell my people Israel[a] of their sins! Yet they act so pious! They come to the Temple every day and seem delighted to learn all about me. They act like a righteous nation that would never abandon the laws of its God. They ask me to take action on their behalf, pretending they want to be near me. ‘We have fasted before you!’ they say. ‘Why aren’t you impressed? We have been very hard on ourselves, and you don’t even notice it!’ “I will tell you why!” I respond. “It’s because you are fasting to please yourselves. Even while you fast, you keep oppressing your workers. What good is fasting when you keep on fighting and quarreling? This kind of fasting will never get you anywhere with me. You humble yourselves by going through the motions of penance, bowing your heads like reeds bending in the wind. You dress in burlap and cover yourselves with ashes. Is this what you call fasting? Do you really think this will please the Lord? “No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind. Then when you call, the Lord will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply. “Remove the heavy yoke of oppression.Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors! Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes. “Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly. Then the Lord will be your delight. I will give you great honor and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob. I wrote some music to this scripture from the prophet Amos using my Blue Lava Smart Guitar with built in Kung Fu Distortion effect. This longer excerpt from Amos reminds me of @johnny_amish's song "In Vain". Thank you Johnny for being awesome and special thanks to the rain for not only the stunning visual effect it provided as I recorded this video but also for possibly contributing to the cold that gave me this gritty rock edge to my voice. He had a conversation with a preacher when he was a kid, questioning the existense of God, and this conversation led to what he called an Epiphany, where from that conversation with Pastor Marshall, he was able to see divine inspiration and the creator's design in all things. Vin is my oldest and dearest friend and we have been talking about writing a song about this experience for years. Here is that song with the lyrics below. I love you Vin.
Preacher How Do You Know (Question) Preacher how do you know Which way to go How did we get here Is it really that clear
(Answer) Look around at the beauty you see It’s not just a coincidence to me The fish the snake the flower and the bird Were made so God’s love could be seen and heard
(Question) Preacher what about you Are you sure that it’s true Why is the sea so blue Is it calling us too
(Answer) All of Creation, So Sublime Reminds us of the Divine We are not alone For it is through creation God’s love is shown
(Reflection) All this beauty is a gift from above From the creator to show divine love Ever since the first Garden was made We were called to take care of it to save

It’s even more fun than riding in boats Cause when you sing with a cold you can’t hit the high notes
Singing with a cold, SInging with a cold Make your music bold and start singing with a cold
Having a cold better than a bad back It even helps your singing voice crack
Being sick is the opposite of fit But it gives your singing voice a little more grit
Singing with a cold, SInging with a cold Make your music bold and start singing with a cold
Having a cold is a bit of a pain Maybe I should stop singing in the rain
