So I've been away for a while, mostly due to being incredibly busy with work/life and having a lot of stress due to financial reasons. Lately I've been putting some time though in my own projects, as they do help me get my mind of things, and wanted to show you progress.
I have two projects going: One will be a single player first person stealth game. The other, this one I'm showing off today, will be a multiplayer first person arena shooter kind of like the old school Quake/Unreal Tournament/Doom/Duke Nukem type games. Fast movement, skill based movement and most importantly FUN movement.
Currently the movement list consists of: - regular movement (duh), smooth along all surfaces - directional dashing (2 that recharge over time) - forward or forward-diagonal sliding - crouching (though I expect that to only be used in firefights themselves, not for movement across the map) - jump / double jump / 1 air jump when you fall off a ledge
I've added a buffer to both the jump and the slide so that when you're almost touching the ground and press the respective key to initiate a jump/slide, it will do so the moment it hits the ground to make the gameplay as fluid as possible.
So far I'm really happy with it, hence why I shared it, and now that the movement seems to be working well (I let other people test it and they really liked the fluidity) I will start working on the shooting mechanics, pickups, health and most importantly, the server/client code.
Possibly if wanted I could potentially do a tutorial on movement in the future, though I don't really know. So I think I did this track like 40 times over, because due to the jumps I constantly wrecked the car haha. This is the first time I actually fully finished the track (in 3:27) but even then at the end I almost wrecked the car because I wasn't anticipating the corner well enough. So I just got DiRT Rally yesterday, as I saw some videos online that it had my favorite car (Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 '94). Turns out it doesn't, so had mod the game to have it, but oh well :P

So not much has changed with the actual movement controller/animations, though I have added support for slopes (without bouncy movement when moving down, a notorious problem for many character controller) and an idle animation (it's a little subtle, but noticeable if standing still)
I have however worked hard to support multiple resolutions, aspect ratios and refresh rates (though the refresh rate doesn't seem to change in Windowed mode... it does work in Exclusive Fullscreen Mode). It's been quite a ride to get this to work and there's some kinks I wanna get rid off.

Hey guys, I've been working on a first person stealth game, kind of with a spiritual connection to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (one of my favorite stealth games).
At the moment the movement is pretty much done, been working SUPER hard to get the movement in a way that feels satisfying. I have also added animations both through script (the gun sway and gun bobbing up/down/to the side) and through the mecanim system, as I want to have the feet visible when you look down (because that is just way more immersive).
Obviously the animations aren't done yet, need to add a breathing animation when idle for instance, and the legs go through the arms when crouching xD But that'll be fixed eventually, just wanted to share my current progress :)
The idea behind the game will basically that you will have to infiltrate locations to either get information, destroy information, save a hostage, kill a specific target etc, but do it in such a way that you go unnoticed, a la a GHOST (may use that in the name of the game, not sure yet). The less times you kill unnecessary targets, less times you get spotted by enemies or cameras or whichever, less times dead bodies get spotted and other such things, the higher your score at the end of the level. There will be a full single player campaign eventually, though I am currently going to only work on a 1 level demo, to see if people like it :) You can follow me through these updates to that point.
The gun model I made myself, based on blueprints but also based on the actual model that I own, it's a Scorpion Evo3 A1 Carbine. The character model is Ela Bosak from Rainbow Six Siege, so that'll be swapped out eventually, it's just me having some fun while building the game ^^

So how does steering work in a car? Let's talk about a very important, but relatively small calculation to getting the steer angle of the wheels, based on the Ackermann principle. This isn't a physics calculation, so the car won't change direction because of this, but we will use this to later in the series apply the forces based on the wheel rotation on the Y axis.
