We waited in Wabash and Grant counties in Indiana for supercells to fire and eventually settled on one south of Marion. We followed it all the way from Fairmount, IN to near St. Johns, OH. This storm stayed only marginally severe throughout Indiana, but quickly became tornadic upon crossing into Ohio. It went to produce two EF2 tornadoes, one that tracked between Fort Recovery and Coldwater, and another that tracked between Montezuma and New Knoxville. Both are documented in this video.

The storm that prompted the warning had just produced an EF2 near Coldwater and was about to produce another EF2 near New Knoxville. The 2001 in the center of town did not seem to be working but you can hear several other 2001s as we drive through.Bowling Green, KY 2001-SRN Siren Test - 4/5/2024Facing The Wind2024-04-06 | Another distant 2001 test for the books. There will be more coming. This 2001 is located on a tower next to the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant just across the street from the Corvette Museum and unfortunately lacks the "C.O.W.S." spots that are painted on some of the other 2001s in the county. I set up at the boat launch at West Bank Park, a little over 0.6 miles away from this 2001 located at Schunk and S Sugar St. The video makes the siren look a lot lower than it actually is, the rim of the lake sits about 15 ft higher than the surrounding ground, where the 2001 sits. Winds were ripping out of the west for this test so the ambience sort of has the "real tornado warning" quality to it. You might be able to pick out another 2001 or two, of which Celina has at least 6. Sirens in Mercer County normally test on the first Saturday of each month at noon.Selvin, IN Sentry 10V Siren Test - 3/9/2024Facing The Wind2024-03-10 | This 10V is located in the far NE corner of Warrick County in the small unincorporated community of Selvin. To my surprise, Warrick County tested right on the dot at 1:00 without me having to call first. Was glad to get at least something out of today, as I had back-to-back no-gos in Crawford and Perry counties before this. Sirens in Warrick County are tested every Saturday at 1pm central.Auburn Hills, MI 2001-DC Siren Test - 3/2/2024Facing The Wind2024-03-04 | The 3 of us decided on this roof-mounted 2001 for the 1pm test. It is located on top of Varner Hall on the campus of Oakland University and is just a couple hundred feet from the township line separating Auburn Hills from Rochester Hills. FSK dropped pretty much right on the dot, and we were surprised to see it do 4RPM. For my first successful Michigan test, I was rather satisfied. Before this, we went to Clinton Twp thinking they tested at noon instead of 1. Oops.
Oakland County tests its gargantuan system of almost 300 sirens on the first Saturday at 1pm March-November and for the statewide tornado drill, which will occur later this month on the 20th.Perrysburg, OH RSH-10 Siren Test - 3/2/2024Facing The Wind2024-03-04 | Christian and I were staying the night at Hunter's so the 3 of us decided to start the first Saturday off right with some morning Wood. Of all the 'beams I've heard up to this point, this one seemed to have the most noticeable difference in volume when the deflector pointed at you.Munfordville, KY 3T22 Siren Test - Attack - 2/16/2024Facing The Wind2024-02-17 | Saw on FB that Hart County would be testing at 8am today. There doesn't seem to be a regular test day here, rather test times are just sort of announced on the EMA page every now and then. From Bowling Green, this was only a 45 minute drive so I figured why not. This 3T22 is located on the county courthouse in the center of Munfordville and is the only siren in town. The solenoids were on the exact opposite side of the siren from where I was facing but they are there. dat branch shot thoFranklin, TN FS 2001-SRNB Siren Test - 2/3/2024Facing The Wind2024-02-04 | Scooted down here with Mike after the 508. This also wasn't our original plan, but an incorrectly placed pin on the siren map led us to drive around looking for a siren that didn't actually exist. By the time we figured this out, it was already 12:50 and this was the closest option. Typical Williamson County 1pm test, this particular 2001 is at Centennial High School. From where we were standing, this was rather punchy.Nashville, TN FS 508 Siren Test - 2/3/2024Facing The Wind2024-02-04 | Mike and I went to this 508 on the south side of the massive Warner Park complex for the first Saturday this month. We were originally going to record the other 508 on the north side, but there was literally nowhere to park. The place was so crowded, there were cops writing up tickets for cars parked on the grass on the side of the road outside of the park. We saw this and noped out real quick, lol. This thing produced some epic echoes during the test cycle despite being disappointingly quiet from a distance. This was one of the more memorable severe weather events in recent years to hit the area as well as one of the most vivid days in my memory.
Dad and I had ridden our bikes up to Xenia earlier in the day and despite being early April, it felt more like early June with temperatures hitting 80 by the mid-afternoon. Having been out biking all day, I hadn't paid much attention to the weather. A few hours after arriving home, I was relaxing in my room, windows open, fans on, eating some mint and chip ice cream when I began to notice lightning outside becoming increasingly frequent. The cold front and associated line of storms were still pretty far west into Indiana by this point. However, given the extremely unstable environment out ahead of this front, discrete storms had begun to explode just across the river from me in Ohio. These storms quickly became prolific hail producers and went severe warned, prompting me to start recording. Things only got crazier as the trailing QLCS started to spin up several weak tornadoes as it moved across the area.
