Redesigning Smash: Ganondorf | A De-Cloned Ganondorf Moveset Concept FibreOpticBroadBean 2022-12-13 | Ganondorf’s moveset in Smash has been kinda cursed ever since he first joined the series. As Super Smash Bros. Melee was set to be one of the heavy-hitting system sellers for the 2001 holiday season of the GameCube, it needed to be made fast. For this reason, the game had a development cycle of only 13 months and because of this, corners needed to be cut. Thus, the concept of clone characters was born, which allowed for fan-favourite fighters to be added to the game, by using existing movesets as a base. Ganondorf is one such example. Since then, as the Smash series has evolved, he has seen some tweaks, with him essentially becoming a much slower, more powerful fighter over time. However, his moveset has never quite been able to escape its roots and is still very clearly derived from Captain Falcon, with very little taken from his appearances across the Zelda franchise. The Unexpected Brilliance of Pikmin | A Pikmin 1 Retrospective Review FibreOpticBroadBean 2022-11-12 | Pikmin is a weird game. Releasing in 2001 shortly after the launch of the GameCube, it was what eventually became of Super Mario 128 - a tech demo designed to showcase the power of Nintendo’s newest system. On the surface, Pikmin is a game about a little spaceman commanding an army of little alien-plant guys, to disrupt the local ecosystem? Yet beneath this cutesy and rather peculiar looking exterior lies a truly unique adventure that I think everyone should experience. I mean, there’s a reason why this series has such a huge following to this day (just look at all the reactions to the Pikmin 4 trailer!) and it all started with this game right here. Why I Love The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap | A Minish Cap Retrospective Review FibreOpticBroadBean 2022-10-01 | Over the years, Zelda games have come a long way from where they started. As a franchise grows, however, some entries emerge as fan favourites, while others are lost to the sands of time. In a world where we have games like Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild which are beloved by the Zelda community, it’s often easy to overlook the lesser-known chapters in the life of the series. A prime example of this is the Minish Cap, a game that was received very positively, but was equally only experienced by a relatively small playerbase. This was most likely due to the time period in which it was released - Minish Cap came out in November of 2004 for the GameBoy Advance, which was the very same month that the Nintendo DS hit the shelves. While this was an unfortunate way to start off its life, you would be mistaken in thinking that this game isn’t up to scratch with its counterparts. However, her status as an echo fighter has left her with a moveset that doesn't quite fit her character, due to the fact that she shares all of her moves with Peach. Redesigning Smash: Mario | An Original Mario Moveset Concept FibreOpticBroadBean 2021-12-31 | Since the beginning of the Smash Bros. Franchise, Mario's moveset has remained largely unchanged. Aside from a few minor tweaks and the introduction of FLUDD back in Brawl, he's pretty much kept the same kit as the series around him has evolved, which has led to him feeling slightly outdated when compared to other characters on the roster. This redesigned moveset concept aims to finally fix that, with a fresh new take on the Mario we all know and love. Redesigning Smash: Donkey Kong | An Original Donkey Kong Moveset Concept FibreOpticBroadBean 2021-08-24 | Donkey Kong has been in Smash since the very beginning, as one of the original 12 fighters. A veteran of the series, he's made an appearance in every subsequent Smash Bros. game and is certainly a fan favourite character due to his energetic playstyle. However, his moveset has remained pretty similar over the years and this is a real shame. For the most part, his current kit consists of various generic punches and kicks - he kind of just feels like an angry monkey. The aim of this redesigned concept is to bring some more variety into Donkey Kong's moves and to better represent his source material.
