What a Lovely End, What a Lovely Life
It’s the empty peace
after a headache,
a stillness deep
enough to crawl inside.
You pull on the cold
as you’re walking home
into the last thing on your mind.
What a lovely end.
What a lovely life.

Mom and Dad
Mom and Dad fell into a rhythm
last spring. It took a fall
of getting used to a winter
without me. It takes a couple hours
now to drive from home
to home. It takes just a second
longer now to find where everything belongs.
Dad’s clinging onto his camera,
Mother to stories and rhymes.
I’m holding on to how small I am;
we’re all holding onto time.
There’s a guest in my childhood
bedroom. The clothes in the closet
still fit. Dad doesn’t run all his miles anymore.
Mom walks with a scuff to her step.
I’m clinging onto my camera, onto words
that she left between lines. My siblings hold
onto how small I am, wind the tapes
back one last time.
I’ll play piano in basements.
I’ll solve a crossword at noon.
Until everything’s moving a little too fast
for steps I just can’t get to move.
Everyone fell into their rhythm last spring.
It took a fall of getting used to a winter
without me.

Perfect Thursdays
Victoria Station,
a family’s rushed to catch their train.
Her husband waits for her
as she’s digging through her things.
If I misplaced my ticket
or had bad luck with the machine,
would you be late to your appointment
if it meant sitting next to me?
On a perfect Thursday,
you’d wait for me.
On a perfect Thursday,
is it just a perfect Thursday?
Our future kids would all wear glasses
too big to fit their faces. We’d pour songs
into their nostalgia and fill their heads
with ancient myths. If they had a dream
outside your vision, would you paint
their every scheme, or would you stare
until they hear just how ridiculous they’ve been?
I love you now.
What about forever?
You love me now.
What about forever?
I sit on the couch; you move to the ground;
they’re in their beds when they call your name.
Your pen is busy on some paperwork
that’s never learned to wait. They’d be bound
to you through blood and home and promises
you make. I’m bound to you
through all these perfect Thursdays.
The love that I accept today
will be written on their genes.
I hear their little laughter
as the train leaves.
I love you now.
What about forever?
The train’s leaving now.
I hear their little laughter.

Online Man Discovers His Salvific Vision of Beatrice
She was lit up as a picture
on his screen when he called her his saint.
The floor of his laptop burned
him as he guessed her age. He swore
the moment that he saw her, “What was lost
will now be found.” Whether child, girl,
or woman, angels need a man who’s down.
It’s a dark and lonely bedroom
when she’s not there. Close his blinds,
speak his mind, and make the keyboards blare.
Mother, mother, mother—
only a woman could understand.
Worship a picture of his Beatrice, pray
she’ll put a good word in.
The comments close in on him
in the trenches; no one else
has the guts to be so honest.
He’s alone, but he’s a soldier.
He’s a prophet with a plan.
With his Beatrice to gaze upon,
he can fight off any thread.
The wolves are coming, too cunning
in the dark woods. Beatrice
burns her innocence as his guide,
his torch, his martyr. The writing
on the entrance warns, “Abandon
all your hope.” But not even hell’s blue fire
burns beneath a weeping girl.

Silly Girls
Waiting a while, it’s dark
at the bus stop. Linking arms
through strangers and streets.
I won’t demand your unanswered
questions. All of your silence
makes sense to me.
I’ll give you my coat, my cash,
and my chapstick; write you a note
with nothing to say. Secrets we share,
braiding your hair, saying goodnight
at the end of the day.
I understand you’ll make new plans,
but for now, we have each other.
When love comes to take your breath,
I’ll store mine in a jar.
To give to you, or grow pink with you
together or apart.
Making you tea with two creams
and sugar, hanging your drawings
up on the fridge. Seeing your beauty
and mine right beside it. Isn’t it funny?
I’m glad you exist.
I understand you’ll make new plans,
but for now, we have each other.
When love comes to take your breath,
I’ll store mine in a jar.
To give to you, or grow pink with you
together or apart.

To the Lighthouse
Through the window,
dinner sat still like an art.
She looked through the window,
“We’ll go tomorrow.
The lighthouse ain’t far.”
She’s a stranger to weather;
she turns shelters to homes.
He wished she’d write letters;
she only rights wrongs.
“We can’t go tomorrow, silly woman.
Oh, the things you don’t know.”
Pass the salt,
pass from politics to poetry.
Passing gazes–
conversations happen silently.
He’s still blue with his manner
until she paints his name
as the centerpiece.
Hues of dinner cues
stain their hands
as they eat her work.
Time keeps on passing. Through
the window, the weeds choke the grass.
He’s tossing and turning, he reaches
out, and there’s no one to grasp.
She said tomorrow, silly woman.
So tomorrow, to the lighthouse,
he’ll go.

I’m Learning How to Swallow Pills
I’m learning how to swallow pills,
hope I’ll learn the trick in time.
I’ll be half of who I am today,
so my mom can sleep at night.
I felt the rain on a Tuesday morning,
it dripped straight into my head.
I brought it into everything, swamped
the stairs so I could swim into bed.
So, I’m learning how to swallow pills,
there’s a leak no one can find.
They’ll patch me up with pipework,
I hope to join my friends outside.
My books and my clothes all grew moldy,
even the ceiling fan started to droop.
Mom knocked, “sweet dreams,”
but the rain in me became a puddle
inside of my mouth.
What do you do with a body
that's been flooding the floors of the house?
The door stays locked forever,
but the water’s seeping out.
So, I’m learning how to swallow pills,
hope someday they’ll go down fine.
I’ll be half of who I am today;
at least half of me’s alive.

May Baby
My eyes clung to the Midwest road signs
on a highway in the woods. You’re driving
slower, but the car seems to fly,
and I think it understood.
You’re a May Baby. You’re a maybe
on my mind. May’s too many months,
you say, “Baby, it’s fine.” Don’t you think
it’s funny and cruel? Got so high
off the way that time flew. Now I can’t go back
to the future with you
Wrong turns steer right, with eyes like green lights.
So I pull the traffic close. It’s getting later. Start
to tell me of poets, all the mysteries you’ve known.
When I look out the window, I can see us through the trees.
When I look out the window, I swear you look at me.
You’re a May Baby, a maybe
on my mind. May’s too many months
to make the last three fine. Don’t you think
it’s funny and cruel? You first kissed me
goodbye as if you knew I can’t go back
to the future with you.
Slow down, please.
I can see the small town lights
blowing through the trees.
Was this what you meant
when you swore you measured time?
That you’d rather hit and run
than stay and get fined.
I was just your May Baby, a maybe
on your mind. May’s too many months
to make any of it fine. Don’t you think
it’s funny and cruel? Waiting your whole life
meant two weeks to you. Don’t get me wrong,
I just should have known better. Proved them right
down to the letter. I just thought I was worth more
to you, sped through limits to just pass through.
Whenever I look out the window, I still see us through the trees
behind every Midwest road sign taking you away from me.

Hello! This video is the last of my tiny covers. The first time I stopped and took a second to listen to the lyrics of "In Tall Buildings," I fell in love with John Hartford's writing style and message. I hope you enjoy it, and if so, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the original in full. Just a beautiful song all around.
I'm going to take a step back for a couple months to focus more on what's in front of me and less on screens. Please don't misunderstand the silence as anything other than that! Thank you again for all of your support watching my family and I's videos—and of course, their channel will still be posting throughout the season!
All the best,
Julianne
Hello, everyone! This is another tiny cover I posted on Instagram. It is Well has been one of my favorite hymns to come back to throughout the past year, and I highly recommend learning the story of its background. I love how humbling and grounding the lyrics are, and I hope you enjoy this cover!
To reiterate from my last tiny cover—Thank you all for being so patient with me. I've been finishing up my college degree (I graduate in May), and learning about the importance of rest in the midst of everything! So, I've had to say no to a lot of things I wish I could focus on, including content production. Hopefully you enjoy these tiny songs in the meantime!
Hello, everyone! Sorry this channel has been so empty within the last year. I've posted a few songs on my Instagram and never got around to sharing them on YouTube. So, here is Mr. Sandman! Thank you all for being so patient with me. I've been finishing up my college degree (I graduate in May), and learning about the importance of rest in the midst of everything! So, I've had to say no to a lot of things I wish I could focus on, including content production. Hopefully you enjoy these tiny songs in the meantime!
One of the sweetest things about being a very small artist is that when I think of the all the people I could thank, I think of my friends and family.
There were the friends who listened to it countless times during the months I rewrote it obsessively. There was Katie who sent me voice memos of studio advice and Neil Greenhaw at Haxton Road Studios who made my first time recording solo such a positive experience. Aaron Clark whose stellar videography made even my living room look cool. Matt who did the audio for the live, connected me to the right people, + SO much else. Troy Dixon for being an audio engineer WIZARD and patiently talking me through my sound until it was just what I wanted. Ellen for walking me through the *nightmare* that is online digital distribution. My prodigy of a friend, Avery Edwards, unintentionally giving me promo photos and turning a concept into the most stunning album art. My dear friend Austin Meyer brilliantly creating the design. Jessica Barber, who’s been listening to May Baby voice memos since September—reacting each time like it was the first. Without the several late night drives of her patiently replacing all of my worst thoughts and directing my focus back to God, I would’ve never had the guts to release this. Most of all, I’m thankful I pray to a God of all comfort, who has given me music as a way of healing. It’s lists like these that remind me of how small I am in the best possible way :)

The audio you hear is bits and pieces of a 30 minute C.S. Lewis radio broadcast, and some of my favorite lines from childhood movies. I can’t think of an author who shaped my childhood experience more than C.S. Lewis did, and entering into college by making a dramatic tribute video just seemed appropriate.
It’s more for me when I need reminded of the people that make life beautiful, and the comfort that God gives no matter where you are. But I thought I’d put it out there anyways! Hope you enjoy :)

My SINCEREST apologies to every French person who I offended by trying to pronounce "rose." I tried. I even watched tutorials and messed up the words in that first verse to get that 'rosehoseqqrasdcroissantfhascnjkb' sound.
But anyways, I love this song! Special thanks to my brother for suggesting it, and then making the entire thing possible.
Ope! I forgot about the whole background scenery thing. We must have spent an hour looking for a nice flower background to NO avail. Just as we were about to drive across town, we spotted these *pristine* porta potties. Matt said, "if you don't make a video in front of them, I will."
And that was that.
Since I'm already oversharing... when we got there, we set it all up, right? It looked great. Then, it started to rain. So we packed everything back up and waited it out in the car. After 20 minutes, we put it all back and then it rained AGAIN. The third time was the charm. We're just about to record, when a car speeds into the next parking lot and starts blaring heavy-bass music.
Listen, I've been there. We've all been there. Bass is fun. You want to hear it. But that bass was SO loud, I'm afraid that chap will never hear again. Just as we're about to give up on the video, the car speeds away and we get this take.
And that, my friend, is the story that just wasted a whopping minute of your life. You're welcome.

O Spirit of the living God, thou Light and Fire Divine
Descend upon Thy Church once more and make it truly Thine
Fill it with love and joy and power, with righteousness and peace
Till Christ shall dwell in human hearts, and sin and sorrow cease
Blow, wind of God, with wisdom blow until our minds are free
From mists of error, clouds of doubt, which blind our eyes to Thee
Burn, winged fire, inspire our lips with flaming love and zeal
To preach to all Thy great good news, God's glorious commonweal
So shall we know the power of Christ, who came this world to save
So shall we rise with Him to life which soars beyond the grave
And earth shall win true holiness which makes Thy children whole
Till, perfected by Thee, we reach creation's glorious goal
