Keolis and Navya, partners in autonomous mobility since 2016, have launched their first fully autonomous shuttle service at the French National Shooting Sports Centre (CNTS) in Châteauroux.
This service aims at transporting athletes and visitors around the centre, particularly during forthcoming competitive events. It has been developed in partnership with Châteauroux Métropole and the French Shooting Sports Federation (Fédération Française de Tir).
This launch is a decisive step towards the development of a multimodal offer that integrates Level 4 fully self-driving vehicles, which provide real autonomy without an onboard safety operator under certain conditions, while ensuring the safety of passengers and other road users.
This experimentation brings an innovative technological dimension to the project by implementing connected infrastructures which allow the operator to be situated outside of the vehicle. The supervisor’s role consists of managing the operation of the vehicle from the remote supervision centre, which has been set up on site for this purpose.

Texas A&M President Michael K. Young said he is pleased with the amazing progress that has been made on the autonomous shuttle project. Young himself rode the shuttle on Sept. 25.
“As a tier-one research university, it is fitting that Texas A&M is at the forefront of exploring innovative transportation technologies. I am so proud that TTI is taking a leading role in this endeavor. I’m excited to see how these shuttles will work to make our campus community safer, more accessible and better connected,” Young said.
The shuttle runs a route circling the Corps of Cadets dorms and Southside Garage — on Texas A&M’s main campus Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Nov. 15. It’ll also be on stationary display Oct. 26 for the Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State football game.
The shuttle incorporates optimized navigation and safety features, using a variety of guidance and detection systems — light detection and ranging sensors, cameras and GPS real-time kinematic positioning. These systems are coordinated on board the vehicle by interpretive, deep-learning software that adapts to real-time conditions based on input from the sensors and cameras. Guided by these technologies, the shuttle “drives itself” without human steering or braking. (In fact, the vehicle doesn’t even have a traditional steering wheel or brake pedal.) A safety driver is aboard, though, should human intervention be needed.
“The shuttle is programmed to recognize obstacles in its path, which could include vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users,” explains Senior Research Scientist Bob Brydia, manager of TTI’s Advanced Transportation Operations Program and principal investigator on the project. “Our demonstration will explore the technology’s potential in improving campus mobility while maintaining (and possibly improving) safety. Through surveys, we’re asking riders for their feedback to determine interest in autonomous options like the shuttle, as well as gauge how accepting they are of vehicles that drive themselves.”
The surveys of shuttle riders and other information collected will inform planning for future transit and transportation options on campus and in the surrounding Bryan-College Station community. The research results will examine scientific, engineering and public acceptance factors associated with the introduction of autonomous shuttles and other advanced vehicle technologies into our driving culture. Texas A&M is funding the demonstration under the Campus Transportation Technology Initiative, a project looking at the larger issue of how transportation innovation can improve campus mobility and safety. Findings from the project will inform elements of the recently updated Campus Master Plan.
“Initiatives like this one are fostering a more connected, walkable, bikeable and greener campus through innovative technologies and multimodal services,” says Peter Lange, associate vice president of Texas A&M University Transportation Services. “They’re also leveraging faculty expertise, and enriching student educational opportunities to work on cutting edge research projects and experience new technology in their daily lives.”

Ce concours s’inscrit dans la volonté de Dubaï d’accélérer l’adoption des solutions de mobilité intelligente pour atteindre l’objectif de rendre autonome 25% du système de transport d’ici 2030. Soucieux d’adresser les enjeux de mobilité urbaine, le « Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport » a attiré de nombreuses entreprises et institutions universitaires du monde entier en vue de réaliser des scénarios et des simulations de conduite autonome à Dubaï.
Lancé en février 2018, l’objectif du challenge consiste à transporter des personnes sur des trajets restreints -first mile/last mile-, à vitesse réduite, pour assurer des liaisons à partir des transports en commun, des zones de stationnement jusqu’à différents sites. Ces expérimentations ont été menées dans des conditions climatiques extrêmes propres à la région. Les différents tests effectués ont permis d’évaluer la fiabilité et l’adaptabilité des systèmes dans des situations diverses : arrêt d’urgence, dépassement d’obstacles et gestion de divers scénarios de circulation tel que : feux de signalisation, passages piétons, travaux ou carrefour giratoire.
Après avoir été retenu parmi les 5 finalistes dans la catégorie « leader » au sein d’un échantillon total de 15 participants, NAVYA qui est positionné sur ce segment de marché, a remporté deux des trois prix décernés à savoir : « best Endurance & Reliability » et « best Consumer Experience ».
L’obtention de ces deux prix vient confirmer l’avancée technologique et la valeur ajoutée des solutions développées par NAVYA et renforce l’ambition de la Société dans cette zone géographique où aura lieu l’an prochain l’exposition universelle de 2020.
Ces récompenses s’accompagnent de dotations financières d’1 M$ chacune, ce qui permettra à la Société de renforcer ses activités de R&D en vue de faire progresser ses systèmes de conduite autonome de niveau 4 pour devenir l’acteur de référence des véhicules spécialisés dans le transport de personnes et de biens.

This challenge is part of Dubai’s commitment to accelerate the adoption of intelligent mobility solutions to achieve the objective of making 25% of the transport system autonomous by 2030. The Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport attracted multiple companies and academic institutions from around the world to conduct autonomous driving scenarios and simulations in Dubai.
Launched in February 2018, the objective of the challenge is to transport people on limited routes – first mile/last mile – at reduced speed, to ensure connections from public transport, parking areas to different sites.
These experiments were carried out under extreme climatic conditions specific to the region. The various tests performed assessed the reliability and adaptability of the systems in a variety of situations: emergency stop, obstacle overcoming and management of various traffic scenarios such as, traffic signals, pedestrian crossing, road works, or roundabout.
After being selected in the “leader” category as one of the 5 finalists from a total panel of 15 participants, NAVYA, which is positioned in this market segment, won two of the three awards granted: “best Endurance & Reliability” and “best Consumer Experience”.
These awards confirm the technological advance and added value of the solutions developed by NAVYA and reinforce the company’s ambition in this geographical area where next year’s World Expo 2020 will take place.
These awards are accompanied by financial allocations of $1 million each that will enable the Company to strengthen its R&D activities with a view to further developing its level 4 autonomous driving systems to become the leading player in the supply of vehicles specialized in the transport of people and goods.

The Auto Rider at Gardens by the Bay became the first fully operational autonomous vehicle in Asia when it debuted in 2015. The new fleet, which boasts enhanced features including the ability to carry more passengers and operate for a longer period, is the product of collaboration between ST Engineering and a consortium of partners. Designed and manufactured by French company Navya, a global leader in autonomous vehicles and driving systems for the transport of passengers and goods, it will be operated jointly by WILLERS, the Singapore subsidiary of Japan’s largest private bus operator, and CarClub, Singapore’s largest car-sharing operator.
From Saturday, 26 October, visitors at the Gardens will be able to book a shuttle ride using the Auto Rider @ Gardens by the Bay mobile app or at self-ticketing kiosks located at the boarding and alighting points. A cashless payment system has also been integrated with the booking system, offering greater convenience.
The new Auto Rider will also boast a state-of-the-art transparent film technology that incorporates light effects and projects artistic images onto the windows. In the evening, the effects are visible from outside the vehicles, and does not affect the transparency of the windows for the passengers looking out from within.

Said Mr Shigetaka Murase, CEO of WILLERS, “Autonomous vehicles have the potential to be
a new mobility solution in resolving social issues in different countries. At Gardens by the Bay,
we aim to provide an autonomous shuttle that will deliver a new user experience to make visits
more enjoyable. It shall not only make travelling more convenient, but also provide an
entertaining and exciting ride experience.”
Mr Etienne Hermite, CEO, Navya, said, “Navya is excited to work with ST Engineering,
WILLERS and CarClub to bring its globally deployed autonomous shuttle to Gardens by the
Bay. It is an ideal environment to showcase the ways in which driverless vehicles integrate into

The new Auto Rider will ply a 1.5km route in the Gardens, between Bayfront Plaza (next to
Bayfront MRT station) and the cooled conservatories, from 10am to 9pm daily.

This challenge is part of Dubai’s commitment to accelerate the adoption of intelligent mobility solutions to achieve the objective of making 25% of the transport system autonomous by 2030. The Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport attracted multiple companies and academic institutions from around the world to conduct autonomous driving scenarios and simulations in Dubai.
Launched in February 2018, the objective of the challenge is to transport people on limited routes – first mile/last mile – at reduced speed, to ensure connections from public transport, parking areas to different sites.
These experiments were carried out under extreme climatic conditions specific to the region. The various tests performed assessed the reliability and adaptability of the systems in a variety of situations: emergency stop, obstacle overcoming and management of various traffic scenarios such as, traffic signals, pedestrian crossing, road works, or roundabout.
After being selected in the “leader” category as one of the 5 finalists from a total panel of 15 participants, NAVYA, which is positioned in this market segment, won two of the three awards granted: “best Endurance & Reliability” and “best Consumer Experience”.
These awards confirm the technological advance and added value of the solutions developed by NAVYA and reinforce the company’s ambition in this geographical area where next year’s World Expo 2020 will take place.
These awards are accompanied by financial allocations of $1 million each that will enable the Company to strengthen its R&D activities with a view to further developing its level 4 autonomous driving systems to become the leading player in the supply of vehicles specialized in the transport of people and goods.
