Scuba Diving Boa Vista, Scuba Diving Cape Verde HD Real Freedom Productions 2018-11-17 | Off the West Cost of Africa, about 5 hours from our base in the UK, lies the tiny Archipelago nation of Cape Verde, one of Europe's last hidden diving gems. Very few people visit Cape Verde every year, and even fewer dive while there. But dive under the waves, and the curious diver will find an amazing abundance of marine life not commonly associated with the temperate Atlantic waters.Big, reef and macro are all present with pelagic like Sand Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks and Manta rays being common sightings. The reef is reminiscent of something out of Asia with gorgeous Butterfly Fish, Angel Fish, Parrot and Damsel Fish all calling the local sites their home. For those with a keen eye, Dragon Moray, Arrow Crabs, and an abundance of Nudi Branchs are waiting to be discovered.Even for seasoned divers like ourselves, we can highly recommend Cape Verde as a dive spot. Manta Ray Night Dive HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-07-30 | Incredible Night Dive with Hundreds of Pygmy Mobula Devil Rays, at Tower Rock in the Mergui Archipelago, Myanmar http://freedom-divers.comThe Mergui Archipelago is famed for encounters with all manner of Sharks & Rays and various other large pelagic animals. One of the highlights of journeys into Burmese waters is diving at the remote (and sadly, rarely visited) Tower Rock, far to the North in the Mergui Archipelago.During the day, one can expect to dive with dozens of Pygmy Mobula (Devil) Rays. Due to the remoteness of the dive site, it is virtually impossible to Night Dive at Tower Rock, as one must travel over night in order to reach the next destination by morning. However, on a recent trip, due to bad weather, we were forced to remain at Tower Rock for the night...Shortly after dinner, one of the Deckhands came into our saloon and told everyone there were hundreds of Mobula Rays using the ships lights to feed off the plankton. Of course our team didn't think for more than a second about jumping in! No wetsuits, no weights, cameras half charged, tanks filled, and in we jumped. The results, I hope everyone will agree are (in perfectly keeping with our "Incredible Fish Footage" releases), literally Incredible!! Skeleton Shrimp vs Goby vs Scorpionfish - Epic Fish Fights #3 HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-07-24 | 3 final EPIC underwater fights: Scorpionfish vs Scorpionfish, Goby vs Goby & Skeleton Shrimp vs Skeleton Shrimphttp://freedom-divers.comWe originally intended this to be a 4-part mini-series, but decided that the quality of the remaining footage was not good enough for our viewers: we know the Freedom Fans want nothing less than TOP QUALITY underwater footage every week, so we cut it down to 3 parts, and this last part is every bit as "epic" as the first 2.Fight #1 features, once again, 2 members of the Scorpanidae family, in the form of 2 Barchin Scorpionfish. This short bout, while not showing the previously seen attempts of using the dorsal spines to impale, does show an attack much like our first episode of EPIC fish fights: One of the Scorpionfish almost swallows the opponent, face-first! The fight end soon after, with the victim having no idea how to fight back. Winner: Swallowing ScorpionfishFight #2 is between 2 Gobies, and is nigh-on impossible to call a winner!.. Both fish attack with such speed, even in the slowed down instant replays, it's hard to see who is the victim. A rare sight as most Gobies are usually seen at the entrance of their homes which they share with Shrimp in a symbiotic relation. To see two of them so exposed and unfazed by our presence was a treat! Winner: you decide..Fight #3 is a special one between 2 members of one of the smallest animals in the Oceans, Skeleton Shrimp. Amazingly, we managed to capture them in what almost looks like an MMA clinch (grapple). With 3 instant replays in super slow-mo, you can clearly see these tiny critter's attacks. Mimic Otopus vs Lionfish vs Wrasse - Epic Fish Fights #2 HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-06-24 | 3 more EPIC fish fights compiled into a short underwater video: Mimic Octopus vs Mimic Octopus (yes.. we know they are Cephalopods, not fish..), Lionfish vs Lionfish, Wrasse vs Wrasse http://freedom-divers.comFor this second part, we have 3 nautical bouts of underwater fighting action:- FIGHT #1 features 2 Mimic Octopi from the Black-Sand bottoms of the Lembeh Straits, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. This rare footage shows the animals, not in a display of mimicry, but in a physical bust-up! The larger one completely envelops the smaller opponent in it's tentacles, squeezing it into submission. Amazingly though, as it releases it's grip, the smaller octopus jumps straight into the "face" of the larger Octopus, scaring it so much that it flees in terror! Winner: small Mimic ;)- FIGHT #2 is between 2 poisonous Lionfish, attempting to impale their opponent on their dorsal spines! The best part of this fight is the end: one of the Lionfish launches at it's opponent, open-mouth first! Instead of engulfing the opponent's face in it's mouth, the blow slightly misses and turns into a kind of "Fish Head-butt". It hits with such force that it seems to KO the other Lionfish!?! Winner by KO: Head-butting Lionfish!- FIGHT #3 between 2 beautiful Wrasse, captured in Phuket, Thailand. In this footage we came across the two fish already locked in combat, each with half the opponent's mouth in it's own, absolutely refusing to let go! Octopus vs. Scorpion fish vs. Puffer fish - Epic Fish Fights Ep.#1 HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-06-11 | 3 EPIC fish fights compiled into a short underwater video: Octopus vs Octopus (yes.. we know they are Cephalopods, not fish..), Scorpionfish vs Scorpionfish, Sharp-nose Puffer vs Sharp-nose Puffer http://freedom-divers.comPart 1 of a new 4 part/ 4 week Mini-Series focusing on numerous Fish Fights captured in the wild, during various dives around Phuket, Thailand (don't expect to see any "Siamese Fighting Fish" footage- this is all captured in the fish's natural habitat).For this first part, we have 3 nautical bouts of underwater fighting action:- 00:15 Fight number 1 features 2 Red Reef Octopus in a tussle; the 2 Octopus envelope themselves in each other's tentacles, both brutal and yet beautiful.- 00:48 Fight number 2 features 2 Barchin Scorpion fish. The fight features one of the fish opening it's mouth so wide, it completely entraps the other's entire face inside it's mouth, only to release it almost immediately. The injured fish moves itself into position and retaliates with the exact same move. Following this, both fish attempt to impale the other on their highly poisonous dorsal spines, almost turning upside down in the process!- 02:08 Fight number 3, a lightning quick fight between 2 Valentinni Sharp-nose Puffer fish, (known locally in Phuket as just "Toby"). Both fish start with ballet-like circling, mirrored perfectly by the opponent. Movement gets so slow at one stage, I thought they had given up on the idea of a confrontation. Then, suddenly, they attacked each other by rapidly circling one another, delivering small bites.Part 2 coming next Thursday. GoPro: Scuba diving with Giant Crocodile HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-06-06 | Short video featuring a crazy dive in a swamp with a Siamese Crocodile http://freedom-divers.comIn may 2012, our Cinematographer, Nico Lurot, visited a crocodile sanctuary in North-Eastern Thailand's Surin province. While there, we leanrt that it was possible to get in the water and film these prehistoric reptiles "at your own risk". After some serious, serious deliberation and a great deal of hesitation, there was only 1 likmely outcome:Underwater + dangerous animal = amazing footage opportunity!How could we pass on such a great chance!?Of course, we didn't, but there was as few times where the Croc got way to friendly for our liking. As you'll see while watching, there are 2 or 3 times where the big Croc has a serious bite in our direction.We've been in the water with Tiger Sharks, Killer Whales, Bull Sharks, and incorrectly thought the the same techniques could be applied to a Croc: in other words, give the animal plenty of room, be wary of any erratic behaviour, and always have a means to exit the water quickly.Well, as we learnt while filming this modern dinosaur, the skills are not transferable from fiulming sharks and whales to filming a croc! We were given a few serious scares, but having come out unscathed, we wouldn't trade this experience for anything! Incredible Fish Footage HD: Fingered Dragonet on a Wreck in Phuket, Thailand Real Freedom Productions 2015-05-28 | Unbelievable Surprise! On the 25th of May 2015, Real Freedom Productions spotted a Fingered Dragonet (1st Sighting in Andaman Sea!!) on the King Cruiser Wreck http://freedom-divers.comThe fingered dragonet, Dactylopus dactylopus, is found in the West Indo Pacific as far South As Lembeh & Komodo, Indoneisa, to as far North as Palau. NO REPORTS HAVE BEEN MADE OFTHIS SPECIES IN THAILAND! The first ray of each pelvic fin is effectively a limb or "finger" that the dragonet uses to walk along the seabed and dig for food. The male has warpaint-like facial markings and has long filamented rays on its dorsal fin that it holds forward when walking. The female has a bright orange upper lip.WHY IS FINDING A FINGERED DRAGONET IN THAILAND (specifically on the King Cruiser Wreck) SO UNBELIEVABLE? There are actually 2 factors that make this so special:1) Most obviously, this fish is not currently (nor has it ever been) listed as a species found in the Andaman Sea or anywhere in Thai waters for that matter.2) Of equal importance, Dragonets are benthic animals (!), meaning that they live on the seabed. They thrive in areas like the muck of Lembeh Straits, or Anilao. Dragonets are well-adapted to benthic life: they are well camouflaged and at night they bury their bodies; the eyes and gills are placed high so only they remain above the sand. Therefore what in the world was a benthic critter doing on a Steel Wreck, where it has no possibility at all of following it's benthic nature. In the sand next to the wreck, ok.. Epic Spotted Garden Eel Fight (2 Eels vs. 1 Eel) Incredible Underwater Footage HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-05-01 | Can Fish be bullies? It sounds crazy, but while these 3 Spotted Garden Eels fight, it looks like 2 of them join sides to double-team the other? What do you guys think? http://freedom-divers.comOn one of our regular visits to East of Racha Yai Island, south of Phuket, Thailand, as we came upon the resident Spotted Garden Eels, instead of disappearing as per normal, they were having, what can only be described as an Underwater "three-way". Three of them had forgotten all sense of fear and were engaged in what started as a Mexican Stand-Off, that quickly deteriorated into head-butting, biting, intimidating, attacking with no reason other than to (possibly?) establish Alpha Male superiority. Suddenly, as if in a move of total cowardice (!?), it seems that 2 of the Spotted Garden Eels team-up, with the clear intent of attacking, or at least forcibly intimidating the other one to flee - here's a direct jump to that moment (31:00) Never seen anything quite like it! Puffer Fish vs Mantis Shrimp: Puffer Fish EXPLODES Underwater after ATTACK from Mantis Shrimp HD Real Freedom Productions 2015-04-06 | Have you ever seen something while Scuba Diving that both shocked and amazed you? This is a "once in a lifetime" video of a Spearing Mantis Shrimp killing a Puffer fish.(WARNING: Graphic & potentially disturbing content of death in Nature. Can be considered R-Rated by some).While Scuba Diving at Racha Yai Island, just south of Phuket, home to a plethora of great macro life, we witnessed something that completely surprised us, despite over 10 years of diving at this island!!A fully inflated Puffer Fish, at first seemingly stuck in a hole in the sand. What started as initially merely surprising took a far more violent turn:From beneath the sand rose the menacing head and body of a Spearing Mantis Shrimp which, it turned out, was clasping the Puffer fish from below!?! As it's main defence the Puffer of course inflated, disabling the Mantis Shrimp from taking it's prey beneath the sand. However, the razor sharp claws of the Mantis Shrimp were completely locked into the Puffer fish making his escape equally impossible!!!For nearly 7 minutes they jostled for an advantage over the other. Just when iust appeared the Mantis Shrimp would give up, in one final attempt, it locked it's claws into it's helpless prey and squeezed so hard it actually "EXPLODED" the fully inflated puffer fish, all of which has been caught and can be clearly seen in this short video.Graphic, Sad, Shocking, Disturbing, but also Natural! That guy is actually Rachan's Mahout, a.k.a trainer, and has been raising Rachan for countless years; they have a very special bond and he is very, very fond of Rachan!-- When swimming, he's actually NOT hitting the elephants ear for any other reason than to keep Rachan safe. Yes, really!!! The bay where one can see Rachan swimming has a narrow sandbank underwater, stretching from one side of the bay to the other. Rachan needs to swim along this sand bank for safety reasons so as to avoid going out into deeper water- especially as he is getting very old now, or he runs the risk of drowning if he ventures into deeper water. The stick is ONLY meant to keep him on the right path. There are moments later in the video where he swims without the Mahout. Also, it's a slight catch 22: though Rachan LOVES swimming, he obviously cannot see clearly underwater, so actually needs his Mahout to help him. Not Cruel in ANY way.- and before you get too prematurely angry about the sound of that: it should be noted he is never forced into the water! In fact, there are even some days where all the divers can be ready & waiting for him in the water, and he just won't go in! It's up to him! Ever just woken up one day and decided that you didn't feel like getting wet right at that moment?? Same thing, and no force on Earth can push an elephant that size into the water- more to the point, we don't even try- and the "chain" around his ankle? Not actually a chain! It's in fact a ceremonial "ribbon"/ rope that the owners tie around his ankle for spiritual reasons. The same practise is carried out in all nations which consider the Elephant a sacred animal, such as India and Thailand to name but a few. In fact, this rope is very similar to the "Mongkon" head gear that the ancient siamese warriors would wear to bless a field of battle; a tradition still honoured by all modern day Muay Thai practitioners, and so once again, allow me to reassure everyone by saying: this is not animal cruelty.- Finally, for those concerned about his Tusks being sawn off, again, it's a safety issue: as his tusks got so big at one stage, it actually began causing him to have unnecessary weight, pressure on his teeth, gums and entire jaw. It was only when a Vet suggested "trimming" them for Rachan's overall comfort and well being that the decision was made to saw off the end.SO I HOPE EVERYONE WHO WAS EVEN THINKING OF POSTING A NEGATIVE COMMENT ABOUT THIS VIDEO AND INSINUATING THAT THIS IS IN ANY WAY AN ACT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY, THINKS TWICE BEFORE DOING SO.
