thvertalert.comTony Hawks Final Video Part - Tapes You Leave BehindRIDE Channel2024-01-02 | Tony Hawk gives us his last video part “Tapes You Leave Behind.” In Tony's words: The project was inspired by Stacy Peralta’s first video entitled “Skateboarding In The Eighties” in 1981 (before Bones Brigade Video Show). It featured Mike McGill, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, and me, using this same [timeless] Ultravox song, from which the lyrics inspired the title. I asked the same crew, adding Lance Mountain and Tommy Guerrero, to revisit some of their tricks in that video and BBVS since we’re all still actively skating 40+ years later. It has been my distinct honor to be associated with these legends through the decades, and it felt right to include them in my videographic swan song. I’ll still be here skating as much as possible, but no longer torturing myself mentally & physically for the sake of comprehensive video missions.

Across all seven stops there were 382 skaters, men and women from throughout the region were represented, as well as skaters from across the country (some skaters travelled in from as far away as Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and San Antonio). We saw heavy skating at each stop, truly showcasing the top amateur talent from the Midwest and beyond. The contests also drew large crowds at each park, and the energy from spectators and competitors alike was palpable.
In addition to securing cash prizes at the qualifying events, the top six finishers (six men and six women) at each qualifier were invited to the Red Bull Cornerstone Final, held this year at The Bay in Lincoln, Nebraska. Not every skater who qualified was able to travel to the Final, but we had a healthy roster of 21 men and 11 women skating in the series final.
The format of the Final gave each skater three one-minute solo runs, and they were judged and assigned points based on their best run. The skaters in the Final put their whole hearts into their three runs, and they really put on a show. The walls of The Bay echoed with the roar from the onlookers as the men and women landed big and technical tricks.
The overall contest winners for the 2021 Red Bull Cornerstone Contest are: Men First Place – Jonathon Reese (Minneapolis, MN) Second Place – Gabriel Vigliotti (Youngstown, OH) Third Place – Felix Meyers (Milwaukee, WI)
Women First Place – Lillian Gallagher (Minneapolis, MN) Second Place – Taylor Silverman (Kalamazoo, MI) Third Place – Alex Herring (Chicago, IL)
The third-place winners took home $750. Second place earned $1500. And the two first-place winners each won $3000 cash.
The skaters at the Series Finals also had a chance to compete in Best Trick competitions on three separate park features at The Bay. The three best trick winners are: Dustin Blauvelt (Detroit, MI) landed a nollie heel back lip, switch 270 front blunt and switch heel board slide down a rail. Lilian Gallagher (Minneapolis, MN) landed a nollie back bigspin off the loading dock. Felix Meyers (Milwaukee, WI) landed a front smith Ollie late shuv it on a bank to ledge transition.
The three winners each won $1,000 cash, and a three-thousand-dollar grant for a Red Bull Cornerstone Skate Feature at the local skate park they qualified from.
Red Bull Cornerstone continues to unite the skaters and skate communities of the Midwest, showing love and support for the local parks and local scenes.

No strangers to the Red Bull Cornerstone series, Minneapolis’ finest, Familia Skateshop hosted Stop 5 at the Familia HQ. Like every year, the action was bouncing from wall-to-wall of this epic park making it yet another exciting display of the Midwest’s upcoming talent.
From a variety of technical bangers to mind melters on the handrail, all the way to power and style on the bank-to-curb and everywhere in between, the diversity of tricks and styles that we witnessed in Minneapolis was a sight to see. No obstacle stood a chance.
There was no shortage of talent on the grounds at Familia HQ and just like years prior, locals and wanderers alike brought their best and left it all on the course. Nevertheless, every person on and off the course were all smiles.
In the Men’s division, Cole Wayka took the cake and respectfully put in work during every heat he skated. With that said, Austen Gott (2nd) and Connor Gasch (3rd) were chomping at his heels, handling business on the course all the same. All three of these guys were on fire—keep your eyes peeled for them!
The Women’s division brought great creativity to the course and as always these ladies were killing it and clearly having a great time! Lilian Gallagher was locked in all day long, landing her the top spot as well as the Best Trick winner! Lilly Goodale was a close second with Laine Oswald coming in third. All three of these ladies went out there, ripped the course and had fun heat after heat. The energy was magnetic and really set the tone for the day.
It was another heavy stop in Dubuque, Iowa as the Red Bull Cornerstone Series hit Olliewood skatepark! The cold weather didn’t seem to have an effect on the talent at Stop 6 as we saw so much incredible skating heat after heat.
Olliewood is a unique park with a lot of opportunity to get creative and there was a ton of diversity on the course from start to finish. These Midwest towns breed hungry rippers year after year and it was on full display here in Iowa.
For two consecutive stops, we found Wisconsin’s Cole Wayka take the top spot, the last stop in Minneapolis and here in Dubuque for Stop 6. Cole’s energy is contagious—he has definitely been on a roll and we’re here for it. All the same, Logan Cook put in major work all day long, respectfully landing him in 2nd. And hailing from Des Moines, Mirza Jasarovic came in at a close 3rd. Hats off to all three of these talented skaters!
No stranger to contest skating, Monica Torres took the top spot in the Women’s division. She was on fire all day, from the time she started warming up until she stepped on the podium. Jasmine Severeid gave the ladies a run for their money as well, claiming 2nd place with Paige Richey in a close 3rd!
This has been one of the best years yet as every stop leaves us more and more impressed. Big shoutout to everyone who skated, watched, cheered and enjoyed themselves. It wouldn’t be the same without everyone involved.
With 6 stops down and the finals creeping, we can’t wait to see what unfolds next. Just a reminder—the top skaters at each event will advance to the Red Bull Cornerstone Final! Congrats to all of our finalists so far.

From wall-to-wall, every obstacle in this epic park was attacked and approached in different ways, making it yet another tough contest for the judges to score. All the different offerings on the grounds of Cream City make it a great park for a contest like this and difficult tricks were going down with ease every heat.
There’s something special about local contests like these. The atmosphere is unmatched, hard to describe, but amazing to be a part of nonetheless. Every person in attendance felt the energy.
Major shutout to Felix Meyers for placing 1st in the Men’s division. Felix is full of style and talent and we expect great things from him! Following closely behind him was Jonathan Reese in 2nd and Logan Mozey in 3rd—both who respectfully held their own on the course heat after heat!
In the Women’s division, we saw Lilian Gallagher step on the tallest point of the podium coming in 1st, with Alex Herring biting at her ankles in 2nd and Leon Colthier at a close 3rd. These girls were on fire and brought some great perspective to the park!
This year’s local qualifier events will be held in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. With a few stops wrapped up, we can’t wait to see what unfolds next. The top skaters at each event will advance to the Red Bull Cornerstone Final.

For Men’s, we saw Andreas Alvarez take first place, with Elijah Evans trailing behind a close second and Deano Tull on the heels in third. For the Women’s Division, Rhegan Spiegel took home first. Behind her were Maya Davison in second and Madi Weiner in third.
Maia Weingartner took home best trick with an awesome hippie jump through the bump-to-bar and Drew Nguyen claimed best trick in the Men’s division with a proper front crook nollie flip out down the hubba.
Hot on the heels of St. Louis, skaters of the Midwest gathered at Studio Skate Supply in Kansas City, Kansas for stop number 2 of the Cornerstone series.
In the Men’s division, we saw Manny Maire take top honors with a consistent blend of style and power all day long. Shortly trailing was Andreas Alvarez in 2nd and Cass Hecht coming in at a close 3rd. In the Women’s division, Lilly Goodale came out on top. Behind Lilly were Michaela Alexander in 2nd and Rhegan Spiegel in 3rd.
For Kansas City’s Best Trick, we saw Lucas Delao win with a hardflip back lip in the men’s division and Kayliie DeLaCruz take the cake in the women’s division with a kickflip body varial.
Now in its 3rd year, the Red Bull Cornerstone series invites the Midwest’s top skaters to put together their best runs in the region’s premier indoor skateparks for a chance at a piece of the $25,000 series cash purse! This year’s local qualifier events will be held in Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
The top skaters at each event advance to the Red Bull Cornerstone Final at The Bay in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 5. And it's worth mentioning: The best trick competition is also back this year! After a short hiatus, skaters will once again compete for $1000 and a Red Bull Cornerstone Skate Feature Grant for the local skate park they qualified from!
