Better skin starts with a better clean!
As a dermatologist (and someone with sensitive, melanin-rich skin), I’ve tried just about every cleanser out there—most either strip your skin or leave behind residue. Not this one. The new Gentle Olay Cleansing Melts transform from solid to a creamy microbubble lather that deeply cleanses without harsh surfactants or irritants.
After just one use, my skin felt smoother—by day 7, I saw real improvement in tone and texture.Ready to take the 7-day challenge?

The top answers?🌀 2-strand twists💦 Wash-and-go🙅🏽♀️ Anything that lets them leave their hair alone!
Turns out, almost all the dermatologists agree—low manipulation is high key the move when it comes to keeping curls + coils thriving, especially if you’re dealing with hair loss or breakage.
Less tugging = more thriving follicles. Science said what it said. 🧬💁🏽♀️

Acne Keloidalis Nuchae is a chronic inflammatory condition that starts as small bumps but can progress into thick, scar-like plaques if not properly treated.
Early diagnosis and management by a dermatologist is key. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to treat.
Stay sharp with your grooming—but when it comes to your skin and scalp/hair, make sure a derm is part of the team.

Honored to celebrate with some of my favorite memories—from flying high with Cicaplast, to chatting hyperpigmentation with Keke Palmer, to spreading the word about sunscreen on some pretty epic stages. Thank you, @larocheposayusa, for letting me be part of the journey. Cheers to many more years of making sensitive skin feel seen!

🚩 Visible Sign 2: Small bumps near the braidsThese bumps are called follicular pustules and mean your scalp is inflamed.
🚩 Visible Sign 3 : Visible hair bulbsIf you see the root of your hair attached to a braid, that hair has been pulled out!
🚩 Visible Sign 4: Shiny, overly stretched scalp When your scalp looks stretched and shiny, it’s under too much tension.
🚩Visible Sign 5: Redness Redness around the scalp or red soresIf your scalp is red where the braids start,This is your scalp crying out for help—literally inflammation.
🚩Physical Sign : Pain and tenderness/Headaches from the styleScalp pain or tenderness/ headaches from the style If it hurts to move your head or touch your scalp—it’s too tight!
If you’re popping painkillers after getting your hair done, it’s a NO!

1️⃣ Always patch test – Test on a small area of skin before full application.2️⃣ Follow the instructions – Don’t exceed the recommended time (even if it doesn’t feel ‘done’).3️⃣ Avoid sensitive areas – Stay away from broken, irritated, or sensitive skin.4️⃣ Moisturize afterward – Soothe your skin with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer.5️⃣ If it stings, stop – Tingling or burning means your skin is reacting – rinse it off immediately.
⚠️Avoid if you have sensitive, eczema prone skin – the ingredients in depilatory creams can irritate and weaken your skin barrier.

Dealing with dark spots can be tricky, but I’ve got you covered with the most frequently asked questions on hyperpigmentation. Let’s dive in!
1️⃣ What will worsen pigmentation?
Sunlight (UVA/UVB) & Blue light are major culprits! Protect your skin daily. ☀️🕶️ Iron oxides found in tinted sunscreen offer additional protection against blue light, which is super important for those with deeper skin tones as blue light from the sun (not your devices) worsens hyperpigmentation, especially melasma.
2️⃣ One product to prevent hyperpigmentation?
SUNSCREEN! It’s your best friend in the fight against dark spots. 🧴✨
3️⃣ One procedure to treat hyperpigmentation quickly?
Chemical Peels! They often require multiple rounds but move the needle quicker than most other options for clearer, more even skin.
4️⃣ One product that will fade hyperpigmentation?
It often depends on the cause, but start with products containing multiple actives that target all stages of the pigmentation pathway. Remedy Dark Spot Treatment and Faded by Topicals are great OTC options that wont break the bank 🌟
Got more questions? Drop them below and let’s chat about achieving that even skin tone! #SkincareTips #Hyperpigmentation #melasma
Tip #1: Double check that you are using a clinical strength Antiperspirant and not just a deodorant. As antiperspirants reduce how much you sweat, while deodorants function to mask the odor.
Tip #2: Apply your antiperspirant at night. Night-time application helps the antiperspirant do its work in the sweat gland more effectively, helping you sweat less the next day.
Tip #3: If you deal with odor and sweat, consider adding a benzoyl peroxide cleanser into your underarm shower routine. It's most effective if you let it sit for a couple of minutes before rinsing it off.
Tip#4: Consider taking a trip to visit your dermatologist to see if a prescription medication (both topical and oral is available) or even botox.

* Inconsistent Protection: DIY sunscreens often lack the rigorous testing that commercial products undergo, leading to uneven and unreliable protection against harmful UV rays.
* Incorrect SPF: It's challenging to measure and achieve the correct Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in homemade sunscreens, which means your skin might not be as protected as you think.
* Ingredient Safety: Some ingredients used in DIY recipes might not be safe for prolonged sun exposure, potentially causing skin irritation or other adverse reactions.
* Lack of Broad-Spectrum Protection: Many DIY formulations fail to provide broad-spectrum protection, leaving your skin vulnerable to both UVA and UVB rays.
* Expert Formulations: Commercial sunscreens are formulated and tested by professionals to ensure they provide effective and safe sun protection. Trust the experts and use products that are scientifically proven to work!
Stay safe and keep your skin protected with tried-and-true sunscreen products!

Visible light, especially high-energy blue light, can worsen hyperpigmentation like melasma and PIH by stimulating melanocytes to produce more melanin. This is particularly true for those with deeper skin tones due to the opsin gene.
Regular sunscreens don’t protect against visible light, but tinted sunscreens, which contain iron oxides, offer essential protection.
Certain antioxidants can lessen pigment production after blue light exposure, but the main goal should be to prevent blue light from reaching your skin. This can be achieved with products specifically designed for blue light protection, similar to how sunscreen protects against UV rays.
My current favorites are:
✨ Naturium Dew-Glow Tinted Moisturizer SPF 50 PA++++ Deep (Organic/Chemical)
✨ The CoTZ Flawless Complexion Richly Tinted SPF 50 - (Inorganic/Mineral)
✨ Elta MD Deep 46/40 Tinted Sunscreen- Hybrid (organic and Inorganic)
For melanin-rich skin, VL protection is essential. The most effective ingredient for blocking blue light is iron oxide, found in tinted sunscreens, skin tints, and makeup. If tinted sunscreen isn’t your preference, or you already have a favorite sunscreen that doesn’t block visible light, you can apply your sunscreen first and then layer a skin tint or foundation on top. This method provides superior protection against UVA, UVB, and visible light to help effectively manage hyperpigmentation.
#hyperpigmentation #melasma #tintedsunscreen
Mistake #1: Spraying sunscreen too far away. If the floor is super slippery or you see a misty cloud in the air, most of the product is dispersing into the air, not on your skin, leaving you inadequately protected.
Mistake #2: Not using enough sunscreen. Measuring the correct amount of spray can be tough. It’s best to apply creams or lotions as your base layer and reserve sprays for easy reapplication. Keep in mind that with creams or lotions you need 1/4 teaspoon (2-3 finger lengths) for your face and neck, and a shot glass amount for your body. With sprays, you really need to be generous to saturate your skin. If you’re using the proper amount, the average sunscreen spray bottle lasts only ~6 applications.
Mistake #3: Not rubbing in your sunscreen. This happens often with sprays. Even distribution is key! Spraying into your hand first and then applying can help ensure all areas are protected.

💡 Did you know that viral skincare products like Kojic Acid soaps can cause more harm than good if not used correctly? Here’s a quick guide to keep your skin happy:
1. Bar Soaps, especially those with Kojic Acid, might be too harsh for your face. They can strip away natural oils and disrupt your skin barrier, leading to dryness and irritation. Opt for liquid cleansers and always use lukewarm water.
2. Kojic Acid Dosage Matters: The concentration of Kojic Acid is crucial. A higher percentage doesn’t always mean better results. Concentrations greater than 1% can lead to contact dermatitis and irritation, undoing any benefits by worsening hyperpigmentation.
3. Formula and Sensitivity:Even if you don’t have sensitive skin, it's vital to spot test. Kojic Acid is not generally recommended for sensitive skin due to its potential for causing redness and irritation.
4. SPF and Moisturizer are Musts:Always follow up with a moisturizer and SPF. Kojic Acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so protecting it is key.
5. Understand the Science: Kojic Acid is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which means it helps reduce melanin production and lighten dark spots. But remember, it's potent and needs to be introduced slowly into your skincare routine.
🌿 Aftercare Tips:To minimize irritation, look for moisturizers with skin-repairing ingredients like ceramides, oatmeal, niacinamide, and cica. Always use SPF during the day!
📚 Wise Choices:While Kojic Acid can be fantastic for reducing dark spots and brightening skin, it’s not suitable for everyone. Be mindful of the products you choose and how you use them.
🔍 Stay Informed and always do your research before jumping on the skincare trend bandwagon. Your skin will thank you!

🌿While natural doesn't mean safer, and scientific evidence shows that antiperspirants are safe, I always respect my patient's choices.
📝If you’re considering going aluminum-free, here’s what you need to know for a smoother transition.
High concentrations of baking soda in natural deodorants can disrupt your skin’s barrier, leading to dryness, irritation, inflammation, and hyperpigmentation. Underarm skin is sensitive, and the moist, occlusive environment makes it particularly vulnerable (The case for my patient above).
Antiperspirants block sweat ducts with aluminum salts, reducing sweat, while deodorants only target odor, not sweat, are aluminum-free, making them unlikely to provide full-day wetness protection.
So whether you prefer aluminum-free products or find them irritating, for maximum benefit with minimal irritation, consider alternatives with antibacterial agents, odor neutralizers, and liquid/odor absorbers free of baking soda and known skin sensitizers.
Examples that work well and meet these criteria include necessaire, lume, saltair secretdeodorant. These utilize gentle alpha hydroxy acids (mandelic, salicylic, and lactic acid, respectively) as PH-balancing odor fighters.
Nuud.care uses zinc oxide to neutralize odor-causing bacteria to reduce body odor & silver for its antimicrobial properties to combat bacteria and reduce odor.
Finding the right one may take trial and error, as everyone’s skin sensitivities and microbiomes vary. Remember, many “natural” ingredients may not be skin-friendly and can cause reactions. When in doubt, do a spot test first.

These seemingly harmless actions will make you EVEN more prone to dry, chapped lips!
Mistake #1- Using lip products with irritating ingredients like camphor, fragrance& menthol.
Mistake #2- Constantly licking your lips. This is known as lip lickers dermatits and can be a hard habit to break but always keeping a small ointment on hand like vaseline, aquaphor, cerave healing ointment, cetaphil ointment, or vanicream can help. * tip* the really small pocketsize ointments can be found in the traveling section of most stores or ask your derm… we always have samples!
Mistake #3 Not washing your face AFTER brushing your teeth. The order really matters on this one! Your toothpaste has ingredients that can irritate and dry out your lips and the surrounding skin. The easy solution is to always wash your face after brushing.

While surface methods like shaving and depilatory creams offer quick fixes, they only remove hair above the skin, leaving the root intact. This means short-term results, with stubbles growing back the next day.
Root methods such as waxing and epilation provide longer-lasting results (3-4 weeks) by removing the entire hair follicle, including the root. Epilation has a reduced risk of hyperpigmentation and ingrown hairs.
Energy-based devices like IPL, electrolysis, and laser offer the longest and most permanent results. By disrupting the hair follicle and preventing regrowth, these methods break the hair growth cycle. However, not all energy-based devices are safe for skin of color, so thorough research is essential. For those with melanin-rich skin, ND Yag 1064 LHR is the safest option.

1- start by using the right cleanser for your skin type-for dry/sensitive skin cream formulas are ideal. for normal to oily/ sensitive skin I recommend Foaming Facial Wash both choices cleanses your face of dirt, makeup, and impurities while maintaining
skin’s natural barrier and pH.
2- tip 2- make sure your cleanser keeps your skin feeling fresh and clean of residue but not tight or stripped of its natural oils. If your cleanser does not leave your skin feeling comfortable and hydrated It’s time to switch to one that does.
3- Make sure you are washing your entire including your hairline to prevent those tiny little forehead bumps
4- Use Luke warm water to rinse your skin. Rinsing with cleanser that’s too hot can disrupt your skin barrier and dry you out.

🕰️ We all know that aging is inevitable, but did you know it's influenced by both extrinsic and intrinsic factors? 🤔
🌞 Extrinsic Aging Factors:
Sun's Out, Wrinkles Out! ☀️🕶️
UV rays, pollution, and our daily lifestyle choices play a significant role in extrinsic aging. ☀️🚬 These external factors can lead to premature aging, causing fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. But fear not! Sunscreen, antioxidants, and a healthy lifestyle can be your secret weapons against these pesky culprits! 🌿💧
💧 Intrinsic Aging Factors:
Age is Just a Number! 📆🎂
Intrinsic aging is the natural aging process that occurs over time. 🕰️🧬 It's influenced by our genes and hormonal changes. As we age, our skin naturally loses collagen and elastin, leading to a decrease in skin elasticity and hydration. 🧖♀️💧 While we can't change our genetics, we can certainly support our skin's health through skincare routines, hydration, and a balanced diet. 🍏✨
So, what's the verdict? 💬 Both extrinsic and intrinsic factors play a role in the aging game. 🔄 But the good news is that with the right habits and self-care, we can age gracefully and confidently! 🌟🙌
