Here's what I've been working on the past month and a bit - a full cover of Machina Del Diablo!
The donations from the Tazer video have gone towards buying the Glockenspiel in this video, with leftovers put into a pot to hire a Tabla player for a cover of Bass Bag or Smells Like Crickets.
I've not been very well through one thing and the other; it has been good to have something to work on, so thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, liked, donated and subscribed.

Here's the latest Age Of Empires II cover I've been working on! (With an abbreviated title to avoid getting caught in the YouTube filters)... 😂 Special thanks to Cameron Durdy for featuring in this video and playing the bassoon.
Having moved to Flintshire I am currently working on making my way as self employed. Part of this is attempting to make my musical projects more profitable - donating even a small amount of money will go a long way at the moment! (link at the top of the description).
We're getting to the point where I have covered most of the music from the original, non DLC tunes. Things have come a long way and some of my covers like Shamburger definitely need re-doing. I plan to finish the rest of the tunes and then re-mix / master them all into one video, similar to what I did for my album 'Strange Times' (youtube.com/watch?v=QhWVimaYcAY&t=484s / richspectrumsounds.bandcamp.com/album/strange-times)
P.S I had a new 'apprentice' helping with the filming of this video so there is a little shakiness, but the good news is that the videos now have room to grow beyond my usual method of setting up a tripod and hoping for the best! Hopefully in September, Arts Council Wales will be getting onboard and assisting further with filming, production, public reach, and transport to more Welsh heritage spots like Flint Castle in this video.
Wololo 🎵Another Age Of Empires II Tune In The Making...Rich Spectrum Sounds2025-08-12 | I'm glad to share I'm in the final stages of putting together a new Age Of Empires II tune. Bonus points to anyone who can name it...
Had some fun recording at Flint Castle on Sunday - thanks to Cameron Durdy for helping out!
Having recently completed the Halo series on LASO and covered Wings Of Kynareth from Oblivion, I've got a few different influences going on in my writing right now!
I've also now completed my move to Flintshire, recording this video in the beautiful Wepre Park. Money is a bit tight after this move, so if you're able to contribute at all to keep my music going, I'd be eternally grateful.
I hope you enjoy this original tune; I aimed to blend the epic and reflective feel of the Halo and Oblivion soundtracks with the rich & varied percussive and folk style of the AOE II soundtrack. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion | Wings Of Kynareth (Full Cover)Rich Spectrum Sounds2025-05-09 | I’ve been a fan of Oblivion for a long time; I spent tens of thousands of hours in the game when I was younger, and have always thought this track was great. It was just such a massive task to undertake the transcription, let alone the recording and mixing I never really faced even attempting it… However, with the coincidence of having a bit more free time before moving house along with the recent remaster coming out, I thought I’d at least try it.
This took a long time to put together: I’m not an orchestral player by trade & recording each section was a slow process - likewise mixing an orchestral piece where the tracks were recorded 1 by 1 is a bit of a job.
But hey, I did my best - hope you enjoy! The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - Eerie (Full Cover)Rich Spectrum Sounds2025-04-21 | This is my first time covering anything from The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Most of my gear is packed up for a move, so this felt like the perfect project - sparse instrumentation, with just strings and harp.
I've sunk a ridiculous amount of time into the more recent Elder Scrolls games, so I figured I’d be fine jumping into Daggerfall to grab some footage... It ended up taking 3.5 hours just to get what I needed, turns out it's not the easiest game to play. 😂
For the piece’s howling section, it was nice to hear Suki and Jackson singing again in some old recordings!
Here's one of the (in my opinion, underrated) tunes from the conquerors expansion! Thanks to Arpit Manaktala on the Tabla, Dillon Prayle on the Flute, and to those who make hiring musicians like this possible through donating / buying the album. If you'd like to donate you can do so through Paypal here: paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CSJ3UEZE9R85G
Neep Ninny Bod is still on the list of tunes I'd really like to do but finding the right musicians for parts I can't play, like the bagpipes, is going to take some time (and money)...
Thanks to everyone for the support. The first few quid earnt are going towards finding a decent bagpipes player for a certain AOE II tune!..Serpenchant | AOE II Style FusionRich Spectrum Sounds2024-10-19 | PSA: Check out my album 'Strange Times' (02/02/25) on Bandcamp: richspectrumsounds.bandcamp.com/album/strange-times (Proceeds help fund projects like this video!)
Pushing the boat out a bit with some sax on this one!.. Making some good progress on the album; there’s a few tunes left to remaster, artwork to source, and distribution to figure out but we’ll make it one way or another. If the album interests you at all please email richspectrumsoundsmedia@gmail.com to sign up for the mailing list.
Thanks for your support so far - this helps enormously with the creative process. Without this I wouldn’t be able to hire awesome session players like Manuel Trabucco (Sax) & Ren Vas Terul (throat singing), even think about distributing or the album, or justify the colossal amount of time I spend working on this stuff 😂 If you’re able to contribute it is really appreciated: paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=CSJ3UEZE9R85GParisienne Walkways - Gary Moore || Clarinet VersionRich Spectrum Sounds2024-08-29 | It's been a little while since I posted a cover of a tune so here's the classic 'Parisienne Walkways' - I daren't try to imitate the legendary Gary Moore on the guitar so I've arranged for Clarinet!
This last few weeks have been much busier than anticipated. As a result of this however, I should be getting my hands on a space that can be permanently set up for recording! This will be a massive step up once everything goes through - both for me and my music.
The album is coming along nicely too - one more original tune to finish off, mastering across tracks to complete, and then it'll be time to figure out distribution!
Re-recorded, remixed, and remastered - here's an old composition recreated with the knowledge that I didn't have a couple of years back. This is another tune to go onto the album.
It actually pains me listening to the old version now - it goes to show musical advancement is a continual process that can never 'end'.
I wasn't sure of a name but seeing as this was my first AOE II style composition I've gone for 'Rodeo' 🥾 Hope you enjoy!
If you haven't already, do let me know if you're interested in the album for when it's released! (Thanks to those who have already reached out)AOE Style WIP - Editing my Latest Video!Rich Spectrum Sounds2024-07-20 | I recently realised I never really share anything 'in progress' - so here's a video I'm working on! It's in the final phases of mastering & video editing, hopefully to be out tomorrow... It's actually a remaster of an old tune I wrote.
I use Davinci Resolve for editing videos now (thanks @WinchurchGuitar for making the suggestion), it's a great program and massive step above the Adobe editor I used a while back.
One more tune to remaster until the album's in the final stages of production!

Anyway - here's a new piece I've been working on!
This tune takes influence from the rhythms of Eastern Europe with time signatures including 11/8 and 23/8, combined with the folk fusion style of previous work. This one sure took a long time to record as I'm no master of playing the harp - playing the harp in odd time signatures definitely took some practice...Randy Rhoads played the Glockenspiel? #shredding #guitarsolo #ozzyosbourneRich Spectrum Sounds2024-05-15 | A throwback to Crazy Train folk-fusion style and some Glock-shredding last summer!Age Of Empires II - Drizzle (Full Cover)Rich Spectrum Sounds2024-05-12 | PSA: Check out my album 'Strange Times' (02/02/25) on Bandcamp: richspectrumsounds.bandcamp.com/album/strange-times (Proceeds help fund projects like this video!)
Here’s Drizzle from Age Of Empires II! I had to brush up my alternate picking skills on the guitar for this one; it was great fun to get the slide bowl back out too.
I hope everyone enjoys my magic trick with the splash cymbal 🧙♂️

Taking inspiration from the Christian music of Medieval Europe and the then-popular 'church modes', this piece features a mixolydian pipe organ riff supported by a sampled choir; the following section contrasting with improvised percussion on a fire poker and some tasty Sitar improvisation, all whilst the bass and banjo play on the tritone between the 3rd and 7th degrees of the scale. The sections then fuse together to make that AOEII style folk fusion we all love 😎
Featuring @maheshsitarist on the Sitar, again payed through donations kindly received towards this musical project!

I'm hoping once I've got a good few of these compositions that I'm happy with, I can pay to get them professionally mastered and released as an album - let me know if that would interest you!
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about doing the original tracks - Bass Bag is fully transcribed and ready to start recording, it's just a matter of getting started!
Living in the Bronze Age, the ancient Phrygian people once ruled an area of western Anatolia (now part of modern-day Turkey). It was said that their greatest king, Midas, was the biological son of Zeus, and that everything he touched turned to gold.
The Phrygian scale, considered to be the warlike mode in ancient Greek music, takes it's name from the ancient kingdom.
This composition explores various interpretations of the Phrygian scale in a 'warlike' musical setting, along with two guest percussionists kindly paid through your donations; Arpit Manaktala on Tabla and @JamieParksDrums on Kit.Age Of Bossa | AOE II Style FusionRich Spectrum Sounds2024-01-06 | What would an Age Of Empires bossa nova track sound like?
One of my favourite aspects of the Age Of Empires soundtrack is the fusion of different folk music - in this composition I aimed to do just this by fusing the Latin/African bossa nova with Eastern and Western influences.
The bossa nova ('new wave' in Portuguese) is a style of Brazilian music derived from samba, which is in turn a style developed from a complex mix of West African and Portuguese influences. Utilising other instruments of African origin (Banjo, Kalimba, Congas), I also took influence from Eastern folk music using the Indian Tanpura and Middle-Eastern style percussion solos, and Western folk music, using the Celtic harp, the Dorian mode (a scale particularly associated with folk music of the British Isles), the fiddle, and some other more contemporary Western instruments (like the Clarinet and Saxophone).
Thanks to everyone who continues to support my work - all the money I receive goes into a pot to fund musical projects. For this tune, this helped me hire an experienced Conga player to bring the authentic Latin/African vibes!
In the future I'm looking to put together an album of original tracks in this style. Let me know in the comments - would you be interested in listening to this?

It's been a little bit of a difficult time recently but I've had this in the pipeline for a while now - I'm glad you lot give me the motivation to keep myself busy ♥
This project is part of an idea to inspire people into Folk music through adapting contemporary repertoire (especially from Rock & Metal) - the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust have said they'd like to feature some music and an article in September which would be awesome!
Even if you're not into Folk music I hope you can enjoy this classic tune adapted to the into the style. Especially the Glockenspiel solo at 02:38 😂
And don't you worry, Age Of Empires II fans... The plans for the next tune are in the pipeline but these are large projects to undergo and I'm still on the search for the perfect Tabla player (unfortunately an instrument I do not own)
Cheers!The End of The World (Clarinet) | Fallout 4Rich Spectrum Sounds2023-06-04 | Here's a little tune from Fallout 4!

Here it is; 'Tazer' from Age Of Empires II!

This bowl harp has been sold to @gailstorr who I have also been assisting in recording and producing an album. (Fáinne Geal an Lae / Raglan Road)Rich Spectrum Sounds2023-01-28 | I've been a bit quiet on the video front so here's what I've been up to!
First of all, I've been working on this Mushroom Harp build; with some new design ideas including a hollow top it's sounding richer and louder. There's white dots to add to the top as yet, but I'm pleased with the results!
I've also been working on another collaboration with @WinchurchGuitar, mixing and recording for an (as of yet) secret artist, doing some transcription work (including for an upcoming album with @jakemadhattercaswell1577) and applying/interviewing for my next degree!

I have to say, sapele seems to be the perfect wood for a bowl harp, and this is probably the best one yet. Thank you Kate for helping fund my instrument-building and being super patient whilst I took my time with it. I hope you have some good fun with it!
In my time off muzaking and woodworking I’ve been playing a bit of Sid Meier’s Civilisation VI (a strategy game) in which one leader (John Curtin) rules Australia. 'I Don't Want To Set the World On Fire' was written in 1938 by Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Sol Marcus and Eddie Seiler, later reaching #1 in the US with Horace Heidt and #4 with The Ink Spots. The Ink Spots' version went on to be an iconic part of the Fallout soundtrack, featuring in Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and the in-game radio 🎵

The Blues Stick!)Rich Spectrum Sounds2022-08-14 | Introducing the latest instrument build: for lack of a better name, I'm calling it The Blues Stick. What do you think?! It was a little difficult to stay in tune with this one, but it's all doable with a bit of practice 🎶
This performance is based off Robert Johnson's 'Kind Hearted Woman Blues', the first song that Johnson ever recorded. According to legend, Johnson made a deal with the devil to sell his soul in exchange for the brilliant blues for which he became famous 😈Margarets Waltz (Bowl Harp)Rich Spectrum Sounds2022-08-11 | Here's (probably) the last bowl harp performance for my masters degree, a folk tune called Margaret's Waltz. This time I placed the bowl on top of a wooden box to utilise some natural amplification, resulting in a bassier tone with less of the 'harsher' frequencies.
Next up is some fun with the new instrument, the Blues Stick (yet to be given a better name).Turpin Hero (Ft. Homemade Flute)Rich Spectrum Sounds2022-08-05 | Here's a traditional tune I've been working on to showcase the homemade Fipple Flute! How do you think it sounds for a piece of repurposed plumbing pipe? 😂
Turpin Hero is a song about Dick Turpin, a famous highwayman, poacher, deer 'thief', horse thief and killer (also known for his 200 mile ride from London to York overnight). Executed in 1739, his exploits were romanticised in song - in part owing to the fact that most of his crimes targeted the rich and privileged.Octopuss Garden (Kalimba Cover - with TABS!)Rich Spectrum Sounds2022-07-21 | Here's an arrangement of 'Octopus's Garden' by The Beatles / Ringo Starr! 🐙 With the recent heat wave in the UK, it sure would have been nice to be in an octopus's garden 🔥
It will, however, be quite a while before I manage to create the whole track (in the next few weeks I have to produce a lot of other videos to support my academic work).
Anyway - I've started the transcription & arrangement process and thought I'd share the first steps!
