It is a restored 8mm film with no sound. The Easter Parade at Disneyland only happened on Easter Sunday - no glitz, no floats, but rather a traditional old-fashioned Easter Parade with decorated cars and people in their fine Easter clothes. Walt Disney is in the first car behind the band, near the very front of the parade. The view is looking down Main Street USA toward the train station. You'll see the parade loops around and comes back down the right side of Main Street. This video is dedicated with love and gratitude to the memory of three individuals who made KBPK possible:
-- Jack Townsend (1935-2014), Electronics teacher at Calder Junior High School in Buena Park who applied for (and received) a new educational FM station license from the FCC so his 8th grade radio electronics students could get hands-on experience. KBPK went on the air on September 30, 1970 from Calder Junior High School.
-- Don DePuy (1937-2002), Electronics faculty at Fullerton College, who (with Dick Thompson) worked out an arrangement with Jack Townsend to share the station between Calder Junior High and Fullerton College. This sharing arrangement started on Feb. 7, 1972 (50 years ago).
-- Richard "Dick" Thompson (1921-1997), Radio faculty at Fullerton College who twice applied for an FCC Educational Station license, and was turned down. But he never gave up and he worked tirelessly to ensure that the Fullerton College radio students gained hands-on experience even before the KBPK shared arrangement with Calder Junior High School. Dick Thompson was the first full-time faculty member in radio at Fullerton College and the first to supervise the radio station.
The first song played on KBPK on Feb. 7, 1972 from Fullerton College was "With A Little Help from My Friends" - Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. The photos in this video focus on the early years of KBPK, and the students and faculty who made it all happen - with a little help from our friends. Enjoy!

Gary Salisbury, our #1 Cowboy, has left us. Many of us have fond memories of Gary from our time working together at Knott's Berry Farm. Gary started working at Knott’s in the Pan for Gold and soon became a gunfighter on the streets of Ghost Town. He was the model Knott’s cowboy and stunt fighter before he became our supervisor and leader. Gary Salisbury had a huge positive influence on so many of us who were lucky enough to work with him. He selected a great group of stuntmen and entertainers and trained and encouraged us all – and he was so proud to see what we accomplished even after we left Knott’s. He was the central figure in our Knott’s group of Entertainment people, and we will always remember his important role in our lives. Rest in Peace, Gary – you are gratefully remembered by all of us.
