Inside this show we have a nice variety of subjects, including 2 different C-45's, 5 different B-25's, P-51 Mustang, T-6, Two different B-17's, one of which is no longer flying, and B-29 "Fifi". The D&S was converting their motive power to burn oil, and were short-handed for their own power at this time. SP 18 was primarily used for Helper service between Durango and Silverton, Colorado. The first train we see is SP 18 doubleheading with K-37 2-8-2 number 493. 18 is seen running light to Hermosa and once 493 arrives they head up the steep Hermosa Hill to Rockwood. We see 493 depart Rockwood, then 30 minutes later the Cascade Canyon Train passes through with K-28 number 473. Then we see the doubleheader at Silverton, and a few scenes at Rockwood later in the afternoon. Next is an August 2021 doubleheader with 18 and 480. We chase the 18 to Hermosa, the backtrack to catch the train with 480. Then we get 3 fine shots of the Doubleheader before Rockwood. We also see the Cascade Canyon train with 473 at Shalona Crossing before heading to Silverton, and hiking down into the canyon, for a lovely shot of the doubleheader along the Animas River Canyon. At Silverton we catch the switching moves at the wye and get close-ups of 18 where we learn the history of the engine, and its role on the D&S. In early September Trains magazine did a 2 day photo charter. The first day featured 493 Durango to Silverton. We see a few shots of this, which included 18 and 480 doubleheader passing the special at Elk Park. The next morning 18 is on a freight at Silverton, and runs to Rockwood. 493 is the escort with 4 passenger cars for the patrons on the charter. So both trains are seen at some locations. This was a really good day of shots with 18 in the canyon, and ended with a doubleheader with 18 and 493 at the Highline Horseshoe near Rockwood. There was a final fall photo charter with 18 in early October, and we have coverage of this as well. The first day had a patron on board, and a different photographer shot the train trackside from Silverton back to Durango. This was the final run for 18 on the Durango & Silverton. This was a rare treat and we have assembled a fine collection of SP 18 in action, plus some D&S locomotives in the form of K-28 473, K-36 number 480, and K-37 number 493. Get your dvd or blu-ray today.Riding the Rio Grande PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | Return to the good old days of Denver & Rio Grande Western steam operations between Alamosa, Chama, Durango, and Silverton. First we ride the last Narrow Gauge daily passenger train between Alamosa and Durango, the "San Juan". The rare part is we ride 2 trips, one in 1949 and the other in 1950. The photographer, Ted Collins, spliced the footage info one ride across the railroad. They rode in the parlor car "Alamosa" on the rear of the train. Most shots are from the train, but we also see a couple of ground shots of the San Juan. We also see a freight with 2 engines at Lobato ready to continue its climb to Cumbres. There are some nice scenes along the now abandoned line west of Chama, like at Gato, and Carracus, where we see the eastbound and westbound meet here both years. Next we ride the mixed train to Silverton in 1949 with K-27 number 453. 2-8-0 number 315 is also seen switching the Durango yard. We ride to Silverton, and just happened to be at the time when the movie "Ticket to Tomahawk" was being filmed. RGS 20 was made up as "Emma Sweeney" and we see it and other movie props in town. In 1950 we see engine 345 in the Durango yard, and K-28 number 473 in "Grande Gold" powering our train to Silverton. So we have 2 different years of runs with unique power on both trains. In 1951 after a derailment 473 was painted in black. There is a lot of historic and unusual footage in this era before the San Juan was discontinued, and an era of mixed trains on the Silverton line. Check out the info on the website and order your DVD. There was never sound with this, so we have including appropriate music and narration along the way as needed. An unusual and rare video.RGS 20 PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | It's remarkable this engine is operational for the first time since it last operated for the Rio Grande Southern Railroad in 1951 when it ceased operations. It underwent a long restoration and is first seen operating at its home in Golden, Colorado at the Colorado Railroad Museum. First we see some special photo freight consists and some vintage passenger coaches and this 4-6-0 number 20. Then we see shots on the Armstrong Turntable, plus a few more scenes. Next we see a variety of the Rio Grande Southern Motor cars, which were later called Galloping Geese. These are seen at Ridgway, and the Colorado Railroad Museum. We then see special coverage of Goose 5 on the Durango & Silverton during February 2022. The vast majority of the footage is #20 operating on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in August and September of 2021. First we see the break-in moves near Antonito, then the first photo Charter as it doubleheads with another engine. This is K-27 number 463, which is relettered and renumbered to Rio Grande Southern 455. This makes some memorable Rio Grande Southern scenes from the past. The next day is #20 solo on a mixed train. Another charter was run in late September of 2021 and features some nice fall colors between Antonito and Osier. This was a fantastic way for 20 to stretch her legs on some mainline narrow gauge trackage. Its a flash from the past, only its 2021, so its hard to believe. The reason this is called RGS 20 & Friends is that we have the doubleheader with 455 and the RGS Motors as well. Get your DVD today.QJ 6988 In Iowa PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | Here is a locomotive that doesn't get a lot of attention, but it should since it runs on the mainline of the Iowa Interstate Railroad(Former Rock Island RR). The engine was brought to the U.S. from China when it was still new. This is one of 2 QJ class 2-10-2's that are on the railroad. First we see the engine on a break-in freight train in May of 2019. It had received some shop work and a test run was made from Newton, Iowa to South Amana yard and return. You likely won't find this footage in another video production as it was not advertised at all. We get some nice start-ups, runbys at speed, and nice pacing scenes on the return trip. We will also see some stations, and other features. We also have August 2021 coverage of some passenger moves. First its an early morning one way trip from South Amana to Wilton to get the train ready for 4 trips that day. These short excursions benefit the fire department and each year the railroad tends to do these benefit excursions for local first responders. We see these four runs, which including different locations. At the start of. each run the train is backed out of town and highballs past the Wilton Depot. We have this 2 different trips. Also there is history and close-ups with crews working and various engine shots. If that wasn't enough we have obtained some footage of another QJ which seldom operated. This is the R.J. Corman company # 2008 which ran only a few times between Lexington and the Louisville, Kentucky Area. After receiving some shop work it made a break-in run with some loaded sand cars from Lexington to Christiansburg wye. We see some really nice runbys of this rarely seen locomotive. These are not tourist line engines, but mainline type operations of standard gauge modern steam. We also have some vintage action in China from the 1980's for background information. Check out more on the website.Freights To Cumbres PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | Cumbres Pass is well known to steam fans as being the highest point on any Narrow Gauge Steam line in the U.S. It was once part of the Denver & Rio Grande's line from Alamosa to Durango. There is a 64 mile section of that line saved, known today as the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad between Antonito and Chama, NM. One of the cool things they offer is an Engineer & Fireman school training for the experience of regular folks who want to do it. During one such 2021 session we see 3 days in a row of trains running out on the line. Two days are on the 4% grade between Chama and Cumbres, Colorado. These trains are real freight trains being operated similar to what they would have been in the 1950's or 1960's. They stop periodically to swap engine crews(Students). One day they cross the railroad, and the final day return from Antonito to assault the east slope of Cumbres Pass. As an added treat we have a 4th train, powered by pre-1900 built 2-8-0 number 315, which was back-dated to number 425 (Its Denver & Rio Grande number), for an upcoming event(See our Vintage Doubleheaders for that). 425 is seen from Chama to Cumbres with a pair of tank cars and caboose headed to Antonito for a special event. We get some great shots of this train on the grade. Check our website for more info and to order, and see all our videos.F-Units & More PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | Enjoy a show of classic diesel locomotives with many different F-Unit type locomotives. We see ex-Clinchfield 800, Soo line and Erie Mining, plus 2 on the Potomac Eagle, and even some FPA-4's on the Cuyahoga Valley, and Grand Canyon line. The "More" in the show means we have additional power besides the F-Units that show up on these lines, including a rare RS-1, Western Maryland BL-2, a couple of steam engines, and more! We also provide some background history on most diesels shown. Check out the time, cost and select SD, or Blu-Ray from our website listed at the end of the preview, and see 250 additional videos for sale on DVD.A Day With 487 PreviewGreg Scholl2022-10-27 | Here is a really neat video that is all steam all day! First we ride a regular train on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (Former Rio Grande), from Chama, N.M. to Osier, Colorado. We are on the first platform of the first coach right behind the tender of K-36 class 2-8-2 number 487. We see the rods now and then plus the tracks ahead and the scenery. Best of all the sound is great as we parade up the steep 4% grade mile after mile. We also have 3 different locations where we combine with trackside views of our train. Once at 10,015 foot Cumbres Pass we ride in the open gondola for a few downgrade scenes to Osier, including Tanglefoot curve, the Los Pinos Valley, Cascade Creek Trestle, and of course arrival in Osier. While in Osier we see the arrival of the train from Antonito powered by K-36 number 489. Finally the last big segment is a ride in the cab of 487 from Osier, up the more gentle grade back to Osier. Enjoy the engineer working the throttle, brakes, and whistle, and the fireman working the shovel for coal into the firebox and other duties. We see views inside the cab, as well as outside the fireman side window and out the front as we go over Cascade Creek Trestle, see the Los Pinos Valley, and stop for water at the Los Pinos Tank. We then continue the climb and traverse the big loop near Cumbres, and arrive at Cumbres, ending a great and unusual day with engine 487. If you like steam, then this one is a great one to enjoy the sights and sounds of engine 487 in the Rocky Mountain Scenery on this famous narrow gauge railroad. See the website for more details, time of DVD, and how to order. Available in SD and Blu-Ray.Distant Views-Colorado Narrow Gauge Music VideoGreg Scholl2022-07-30 | This is a compilation video of various trains on 3 foot gauge railroads in Colorado. It's been a long time. Friday June 10th, between rain showers, the Tri-State Warbird Museum, in Batavia, Ohio launched 3 planes as part of its annual fund-raising gala. Scenes are at Clermont County Airport. On Saturday we made a roundtrip of about 260 miles to the Louisville, Kentucky Area, mainly to see B-17G Texas Raiders. We heard there were only 3 B-17's operating during the 2022 season. This is a great looking plane. They also had a C-45 which we see as well. This is a very condensed sampling of what we shot. It was good to see the B-17 despite the sunburn and the heat. Wish they would fly in November or December!!!! Enjoy. This was the Victorian Iron Horse Round-up held in August of 2021 hosted by the 64 mile long Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Colorado and New Mexico. Two guest engines were built in 1875, 2-6-0 Glenbrook and 4-4-0 Eureka. These two are woodburners and were trucked in from Nevada for this event. Former Denver and Rio Grande engines 4-6-0 number 168, and 2-8-0 number 315 are coal burners and also doubleheader together. 315 was back dated to its D&RG number 425. The two Woodburners doubleheaded also on each of its trips. There were several roundtrips operated, and this is all detailed on the description for the DVD on our Website. The events last a few days, and there is a chance to see a variety of trains in scenic locations, and a variety of steam power. There is a lot of great action in this show. We take you back to 2000 and watch 2-8-2 number 14 in action on a special photo freight charter for photographers. The train pulls coal cars along the railroad in both directions making a great show of steam and sound with it working hard on each runby. The next morning we enjoy morning scenes in the roundhouse and outside in the cold autumn air. Next we see 14 at the old coal tower get some coal loaded for the days trips. Next we see it switching the yard making up the train. There are also some fall colors in this October show. Nearly all the engines were built in the United States, but builders such as Baldwin, or the American Locomotive Works. The majority are 2-8-0's, but one line even has a pair of 2-8-2's, and we get both of them in action on different trains. There are two 2 and a half foot narrow gauge lines including Abdulio Morales, and Mal Tiempo. We will witness great action scenes, plus see some loading areas with ox carts hauling the cane. Enjoy steam when it was still going strong in Cuba, before the demise of the sugar market. There are also interesting crew shots and we see a train come apart as it is passing. Enjoy some station shots, and a scene with a train chasing a cow right past our cameras. This was once in the Steam Around The World Series released on VHS in 1996.
