Sunfire True Subwoofer MK II Bass Test chino1127 2014-08-07 | A brief test using the Bassotronics - Bass I Love You track. The subwoofers are a pair of Sunfire True Subwoofer MKII's by Bob Carver. They were made in the good 'ol U.S.A. in 1999 and 2003 respectively (now defunct). In '99 they were the most powerful 10" subs (2700 watts) on the market, and even have no rivals in this size class. Both subs were professionally refurbished with new resistors and capacitors, as well as sanded and finished with automotive grade paintwork in Nero Pastello (Ferrari Black).The subs are both set to a reference volume of 0db. The sub in the foreground experiences the characteristic hopping as a result of a poor choice in rubber feet while the sub in the background has special vibration resistant feet that are designed for large computer towers and handles the wobble fairly well. The stock feet were removed and discarded when the subs went in for refinishing.I am fortunate enough to have a spread in the hills of Los Angeles where my neighbors are not within earshot of the terrible rumble (or they just don't mind all that much).EDIT: Video incorrectly states 5700 watts, correct amount is 5400 watts.

Out of the 19 countries I've traveled too, none can compare in splendor, magic and beauty. We enjoyed lots of hiking, biking, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, jet skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming in the crystal clear waters outside of our Over Water Bungalow. We met some great people and enjoyed over-the-top service. There was equal amounts of rain and shine during the trip. It was the most memorable experience of our lives. The St. Regis is a special resort for us - it is where I proposed to my wife (St. Regis Bal Harbour) nearly 11 months ago! We hope to top it with another trip back!

Vornado AC500 Review chino1127 2014-10-13 | Please turn the volume up.The Vornado AC500 has been plagued with durability issues related to its fan. Since my first purchase of (2) Vornado AC500's in August of 2012, I've had noise problems, from squeaks to rattles. It is impossible to leave these on in your room when trying to fall asleep - they will keep you up all night. Under warranty, I replaced them with (2) new units in July of 2013, and a year later, the fan has started to make an unusual sound. Again, under warranty, I've replaced them again this year in hopes that this is the last time.It's unfortunate that Vornado's quality on the AC500 has not been the best, despite a stellar reputation for its room fans.In this video I demonstrate what some of those issues are, so that you can make an informed decision.UPDATE: As of 1-1-16 the 2014 model has started exhibiting the same "whirring" or "humming" sound that was demonstrated in the 2013 model. I run them continuously 24/7 - however because of the noise, I have stopped using the current model, and therefore it has lasted a bit longer before the motor started to make this sound.
B&W DM603 S3 Woofer Movement & Marantz NR1504 / MM7025 chino1127 2014-06-22 | A quick video demo of a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM603 S3's demonstrating moderate woofer excursion. B&W calls this a 2 1/2 way floorstander - both the Kevlar and Aluminum drivers handle the lower end.They are being run in 2-channel, bi-amped with the Marantz NR1504 (50w x 5) handling the HF and a Marantz MM7025 (140w x 2) handling the LF. The Marantz is a rather neutral amp, so I had to use the Manual EQ to raise the low frequencies and lower the high's to get any good movement out of these B&W's. Some people say these speakers are a bit heavy on the bass - as a bass junkie I tend to disagree. That being said B&W equips them with foam "bungs" to cover the front and rear ports, thereby reducing the bass output.The two subwoofers (Sunfire True Subwoofer MKII 10" and Velodyne Minivee 8) have been disabled for the demonstration.
957 Cayenne Turbo Exhaust Fabspeed Cat Bypass chino1127 2014-05-18 | Asked the tech (House Automotive, Pasadena, CA) to drive her around the block at light throttle (non-Sport mode) to see how she sounds under conservative driving. This was after the Fabspeed Secondary Cat Bypass pipes were installed (primary cats are still on). A nice growl under part throttle cruising that opens up to a loud roar at WOT.Airbag suspension was reprogrammed to be lowered about 40mm. This is in the low setting with 22" wheels on.

Tentacles are cut but suction is still present. They grab onto the dish, utensils and even your teeth, gums and cheeks as you chew them into pieces. Sesame oil is used to enhance flavor and lubricate the muscular hydrostats as they are eaten.Since two-thirds of the octopuses neurons are present within the arms, there is still some functional reflex action without any input from the brain itself. In fact, after nearly 30 minutes of remaining idle on the serving plate, a bit of stimulation will cause the tentacles to start moving again.Yum!
Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) In Action, In-lens View chino1127 2010-12-20 | Video of Nikon's proprietary optical image stabilization engine called VR or Vibration Reduction at work. Towards the back of the lens, there are two optical elements that are controlled by electromagnetic voice coil motors to counteract the lens movement.This was shot by a tripod mounted digital video recorder pointed straight down through the lens of a Nikkor 70-300mm VR at maximum focal length.The lens/camera was placed on a soft surface to allow for variable movement.The VR was set to "active" mode allowing for maximum orthogonal excursion and making for an excellent demonstration of the VR elements at work. The clicks you hear are me switching the VR mechanism on and off.Nikon's VR uses an accelerometer/velocity sensor to detect yaw and pitch and counteracts the movements by driving two separate electromagnetic voice coil motors. Canon's IS technology works in a similar manner.The Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm VR is of the longest VR stabilized consumer grade telephoto lenses and as a result requires the largest and most aggressive VR mechanism to provide the same level of perceived optical image stabilization as their shorter zoom range lenses. Thus the VR motor is considerably more powerful (and noisier) than other zoom models, the vibration of which can be felt through a pro camera body. This video demonstration was not possible on the 18-105 VR as the VR elements are not visible even at maximum focal length. I also compared this lens with the first gen 70-200 2.8 VR, but the VRII in this lens works far better than the choppier and less consistent 1st gen VR in the 70-200.I apologize for the shadows at the bottom right half - it was difficult to get a light source pointed into the lens without actually blocking the view from the video recorder and also positioning to minimize glare from the lens elements.

Mufflers have been removed and replaced with 2.5" piping, terminated with quad oval AMG tips. AMG front/rear bumpers, side skirts, spoiler and wheels were installed.

Stock cats, and resonator. Good V8 growl at partial or WOT, but unbearable drone under load around 1300-1800 RPM. Props to my brother who's filming despite being dispersed with exhaust fumes and the concentrated noise of an enclosed garage.
Porsche 911 (996) Turbo TechArt Kit Too Low chino1127 2009-10-09 | Nothing terribly interesting. I record a short clip of my friend rolling out of my place for the first time with the new TechArt kit installed on the Porsche. The front lip scrapes at the end of the clip and I immediately stop recording. The driveway is not too steep, but the front lip is just poorly suited for anything but flat roads. That front lip was causing too many problems plus it was kinda 'cheap' looking, so it was later removed.
