This particular motherboard is an unusual dark green color, manufactured in Korea, and it arrived with a completely dead data bus. Using a diagnostic card and an oscilloscope, I trace the power, clock, and reset signals to figure out why the system refuses to boot. After ruling out the ULA, the focus shifts to the Z80 CPU. I remove the original processor, test a replacement, and install it to see if that resolves the erratic data lines. Priced at around £32, it initially seems like a bargain, but after a teardown and some performance testing, I discovered some serious safety concerns. From a non-earthed metal case to unstable temperature calibration, this "budget" station might be more trouble than it's worth. Both units arrived with white screen issues, which initially seemed like simple candidates for composite modifications.The diagnostic process for the first unit involved cleaning heavily corroded SRAM legs and troubleshooting a lack of bus activity. I ultimately identified a failed Z80 CPU. After replacing the processor and installing a composite mod board with a 555 timer, the machine was fully restored.The second unit exhibited similar symptoms, including a halted CPU. Swapping the Z80 processor fixed this unit as well, confirming that both computers suffered from bad silicon rather than ULA failure.
