system shock 2 glitch - disappointed dadTristin plays music sometimes2024-01-22 | ...Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd - Bring Me the Horizon (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2026-08-01 | great song, super fun to play, surprisingly technical in the way that there are a lot of little pauses and some specific runs to hit on, i got a good enough take on about the third take and decided to keep it for the good energy instead of run it into the ground trying to get a perfect take.
for the breakdown i played triplets instead of quadruplets or whatever it is, i am not that fast on fingerstyle, sadlyI Felt It Too - Gold Necklace (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2026-05-23 | excellently funky song that has a few tricky, fast fills, but has plenty of room to improvise and jam, i even switched up the verse chord progression a few times compared to the recording. if you're looking for good practice for ghost notes, well, here it is! i could've gotten some of the fills a little cleaner, but overall i had fun with this one!Rank Rider - Issues (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2026-02-01 | dense with really strange rhythms and chug patterns, this is an awesome pop song with deceptively tricky instrumental bits that i definitely did not get perfect. the original tuning was probably something stupid like drop G#, but i learned it in standard because i was lazy and it still sounds good anyway.
this is using the new yamaha with now broken in ernie ball cobalt flats, ran through Parallax X in REAPEROne for the Road - Arctic Monkeys (Electric Bass Cover 2025)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-12-06 | OG viewers (are there any of those?) will know that I already covered this song when i was young and not as jaded. for audio quality (and playing quality) reasons i figured it'd be a good time to redo this one. here it is on the new bass, the Yamaha BB735A.
what can I say about this song? it's damn excellent all around. groovy as heck, interesting bassline, very memorable vocals, great production, great guitar solo, what more could you want?Monster - Paramore (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-12-06 | my first proper cover with my new bass, the Yamaha BB735A. this is with Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats (these flats are fucking bright) through Parallax X.
awesome song by paramore, extremely epic chorus, really fun bass work throughout, not too complicated for the song, but still interesting.Fade Away - Breaking Benjamin (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-08-17 | pretty rusty, so my timing in the verses is not nearly as tight as it should be, but hey. unlike most other songs i cover i had to change tuning for this one, not sure what the band used, but i used B flat standard.
i'd say i transcribed the original parts at probably 90% accuracy, with a 10% laziness margin of improvFantasy Life i - i know why youre headbangingTristin plays music sometimes2025-06-23 | thought this moment could fit something like thisIdeal and the Real - Persona 5 (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-05-10 | nothing overly fancy here, but a deceptively tricky, very tight groove, with not a lot of extra notes to cover up any rhythmic errors. i improvise on the post-chorus section, but everything else i tried to play like the original.
one of my top favorites in the OST, the verse and chorus lead melodies are absolutely fantastic.Price - Persona 5 (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-05-10 | hey, it's that song that youtubers constantly use as background audio, wonder where that came from?Life Goes On - Persona 5 (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-04-19 | well, this is certainly far from perfect, but i'm glad i got a passable take out as this is a milestone for me as the hardest song i've learned and played on bass, full stop.
i have a strong hunch the original is a synth bass, but the shapes i found to play this were surprisingly natural. that didn't stop the song from being extremely tough, tons of syncopation, an aversion to keeping the same rhythm for more than a couple notes, and the notes themselves are dense and rapid, combine all that with the fact that every continuing section of the song has a new variation on the main bassline, it makes it a slow process as every section is a little different.
I ended up improvising on the softer bridge section, because why not, so that part isn't like the original, but aside from that i did my damndest to learn the original note for note and rhythm for rhythm, but i don't know theory and don't have strong patience, so i'm sure there are still tons of little mistakes and differences. i hope someone can enjoy this!Candidate for HK-47s Best LineTristin plays music sometimes2025-03-02 | ...Endless Games for Two - Rhythm Heaven Fever OST (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-02-15 | apologies, the video is out of focus, i did this back to back with the sick puppies cover and never verified my camera was in focus on either one, whoops.
this is a surprisingly tricky song with very particular timing for every little note, so i'm not ultra solid, but what a groove!Pitiful - Sick Puppies (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-02-15 | my bad, the video is out of focus, i only made sure i was in shot and just recorded it, whoops. however, i did this on the very first take, and though it's far from an excellent take, i thought that was fate, so i kept it. didn't mess with the original parts too much, how do you improve on perfection?clasping your... hands in prayer (cyberpunk 2077)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-01-11 | just a strange bugMother May I - Coheed and Cambria (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2025-01-11 | well this was hard as fuck, mostly in a stamina sense, by the end i was doing all i could just to not tire my fingers out but keep it varied and with force, hopefully that barely comes through. what an awesome song, though, those early rhythmic switchups are to die for!
the auto selected thumbnail is a little horrifying, but also funny, so there you go.I Can See You - Taylor Swift (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2024-12-25 | well well, it's been a while! i had been wanting to return to covers for a while, and this christmas gift for my wife seemed like a good one to kick it off!
some things about my setup have changed, though my sterling ray-35CA bass remains the same, i'm now running through Parallax X as an amp sim/distortion, and recording the video with a Canon EOS R100 as opposed to my ancient gopro hero 3+.
Super funky song, actually the beginning of my next series of covers where I wanted to go back and record 11 songs, most of which are some of my first covers i did on this channel, along with a few songs i didn't cover back then, but i had always been practicing on and were influential to me as a player. stuart zender of jamiroquai, especially. I plan to do those old covers over again with much better video and audio quality as well as use whatever bass i own that'd most complement the song since i now have a stingray, a flatwound PJ, and a fretless. my newfound variety and utility will make for much better covers than that ancient stuff. who knows when i'll get around to doing them all, but i will be doing those before any other songs.Last to Know - Bullet for My Valentine (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2022-06-03 | i recently got a Darkglass Alpha Omega for its finest bass distortion sound known to man, and it'd been a long time since i'd done a cover, so i wanted to do a harder, faster song to show off the distortion effect. this was definitely difficult for me, apologies for any messiness, i played a shit ton busier than the original bassist and did it to myself, really.Pretty Girl Rock - Keri Hilson (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2022-04-30 | i was recently gifted this Harley Benton precision-jazz combo bass from a band that's close with mine in the scene (for my wedding!), and this is my official maiden voyage for it. To contrast my stingray, this bass has flatwound La Bellas, and with the jazz pickup and tone rolled all the way it's producing a very round and bassy tone perfect for songs like this that never had traditional bass guitar, but absolutely slap with it.Lolly singing to “ Drivin’ “ until a dragonfly distracts herTristin plays music sometimes2021-11-07 | I like how she turns around to look at the dragonfly behind her but she still tries to maintain eye contact with the cameraTiffany Blews - Fall Out Boy (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-10-06 | one of my favorite bands of all time, right up until their reboot, though i do still like them. between the last song and this one i got a setup for my bass and dramatically lowered the action which gave me a ton of clank in my tone, and i can now say i've got the best tone i've ever had in my "career", personally speaking of course. heavy and cuts through, but with a lot of clank and aggressive quality, you wouldn't even know my strings are cheap ernie balls that are deader than a doornail. tried to play a little more simply for this one overall. barring the bridge and last chorus.
also that's a li'l wayne feature in the bridge, the more you knowSay Something - Karen Harding (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-07-30 | A cover of a deep house song that was never meant to be played on Electric Bass. A bit sloppy, but it's not a style of song that benefits from an instrument anyway. Mostly found it so groovy that I was playing it anyway.Stay Forever (Instrumental) - Paradise Killer OST [Electric Bass Cover]Tristin plays music sometimes2021-06-19 | Produced by Barry "Epoch" Topping. Very interesting visual novel game with a... killer... soundtrack. Incredibly funky song, surprisingly difficult with some tight and awkward rhythms, and some interesting chromatic bits.
This is also the debut of my new bass, a sunburst Sterling Ray35CA with an Audere Classic 3b pre-amp. I still have the Ibanez and will repair it in the future, but the years old workhorse popped a tuning peg out when I was swapping the strings, rest in peace, sweet prince. I will one day replace the machine heads.Leave the Door Open - Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak) [Electric Bass Cover]Tristin plays music sometimes2021-05-09 | incredible song, cannot wait for the full album release! had to cover it since it's just so funky and old school.Beautiful Ruin - Danganronpa 2 (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-03-16 | this is officially the most difficult thing I've covered, I don't actually feel as if this is clean enough, but I didn't want to waste the bass composition.
the interesting thing about this song is that it actually has two different electronic bass instruments and basslines in the verse. one mid-trebly one that's the most audible/rhythmic and the one you'll recognize, and then a more sub-bass one that plays more extended notes and fills. they play at the same time throughout the verse doing different things and filling different frequencies. in order for me to play this on a real instrument i combined the two, mainly sticking to the audible mid bassline while including key landmark fills that the sub bass instrument does in between.
once the chorus hits both instruments combine and play the same incredibly rhythmically tight and complex section, which is by far the most difficult thing i've ever played. because it's programmed electronically the notes do not easily flow between each other on bass strings. having to stretch and skip between the strings at high speed and tightness make it incredibly difficult to play cleanly at my skill level, but i put so much work into translating this one combined bass track that i didn't want it go to waste. I hope even through that you can enjoy!
composed, of course, by Masafumi Takada, and I cannot wait to hear what he's got in store for World's End Club! Not Invincible - Bullet for My Valentine (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-01-16 | haven't done a metal cover in a very long time (inb4 BFMV isn't metal, inb4 even my other metal covers aren't metal).
really love these guys and had this song stuck in my head for a bit, a bit sloppy because metal's fast playing has me at my stamina limitsTheme of Laura - Silent Hill 2 OST (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-01-09 | Composed by Akira Yamaoka, incredible soundtracks to an incredible horror series. Really love the full band feel of certain tracks on the older OSTs, I may cover more in the future, definitely think there's a lot of potential for hip hop basslines over the semi lo-fi beats of a lot of the older OST songs.Void (Main Menu, 生命流) - Arknights OST [Electric Bass Cover]Tristin plays music sometimes2021-01-09 | This is (unbelievably) from a mobile gacha tower defense game named Arknights that's better than that description lets on. I realized post-upload that the video is slightly out of sync with the audio. If anyone has tips for syncing audio and video please let me know. Eyeballing it can be rough.Beautiful Morning - Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2021-01-09 | Composed by Masafumi Takada. Recently I showed this series to my girlfriend and we've been playing through it, so since I've been hearing the amazing soundtrack again I figured I should do more covers of its songs. Possibly more to come.Glitterball (99 Souls Club Remix) - Sigma [Electric Bass Cover]Tristin plays music sometimes2020-11-15 | the cover no one asked for! i wanted to give this song a try because i love the bassline and it's always interesting to try songs with extremely meant-for-midi-synth basslines. i did as best i could, but the rhythm is extremely tight and alternatingly syncopated. i tried to a nearly 1:1 cover, pretty close to the exact notes in the song.
this is also the first cover i've done using an iRig HD 2 that my dad got for my birthday, which gave me a much cleaner input signal, and will be used from here on out. Probably not the best first song to showcase that, but i can't control the groove.Wiped Out! - The Neighbourhood (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2020-10-05 | i accidentally did all of my takes with the song included... d'oh, so i'm very sorry, this will be straight amp output of the bass with my backing track included, no other EQ'ing or mixing possible, so you can even hear the chime i used as a cue in for the last part. this was how i used to do all of my covers anyway, so... vintage
i wanted to accent the drum beat of the ending part. the odd time signature causes the drumbeat to land alternately back and forth, which compliments the lyrics, and lends a very surreal feeling if done naturally, really uniqueThats What You Get - Paramore (Electric Bass Cover)Tristin plays music sometimes2020-09-23 | Excellent song. I found it extremely groovy due to the rhythmic switchup that takes place halfway through the first verse.
