I present it here for historical value.Pete Wilson went on to fame and fortune in San Francisco, first at KGO, then to KRON, then back to KGO. He passed away in 2007.The voiceover in this presentation was provided by the station's operation manager, Cal Bollwinkel, though the very first line sounds like it was lifted from something voiced by Ernie Anderson.The NewsPlus theme music is "Gauchos" by Lala Schifrin, from the 1978 album "Gypsies."

It wasn't a great campaign (in my opinion) so I didn't save many of them. Sadly I started the VCR late on the first one, so you will notice the beginning is missing. Based on the length, seems I missed the first five seconds.Voiceover on the first two provided by the great Ernie Anderson. The third one is Dick Tufeld, most famous for providing the voice of the robot on "Lost in Space."
KTXL Movie Opens (1968 - 1975) - from the 2-inch master tapes VPR2B 2023-12-12 | These movie opens were created in-house by KTXL. The earliest ones were simple setups in front of the studio cameras, and then progressed into animations that were created using polarized filters. JAM Productions - The JAM Song (1985) VPR2B 2023-11-22 | This upload was sourced from a JAM CD. Here's info about "The JAM Song" from the JAM website:1985 was a very busy year for JAM. There were several CHR and A-C formatted stations competing in almost every city, and JAM did the jingles for most of them. Countdown shows abounded, and you could hear JAM on one after another. To take a "snapshot in time" of that moment, we wrote and recorded The JAM Song.In order to create as accurate a time capsule as possible, each station's logo melody was correct (as of the day we recorded it) and each station's call letters were sung by the same combination of singers who sang their most recent JAM package. This required lots of research and many different recording sessions which spanned about three weeks. We originally pressed The JAM Song onto a 7" record at 33 1/3 rpm, and mailed it out as a promotional item in September 1985. The back of the record jacket contained the song lyrics and credits, and identified the location of each station mentioned. In 1994 we digitally re-mastered The JAM Song from the original 30 ips master tape and released it on our 20th anniversary commemorative CD, "The First 20 Years". The JAM Song takes a whimsical look at what we do, and predicts a time when you'll hear JAM jingles coming from other galaxies. There's even a brief aircheck of an intergalatic station whose legal ID is "Zorp Furble, Andromeda". It shows that despite language differences, radio and jingles are truly universal.Many formats and call letters have changed since 1985, but it's still fun to look back. I was able to obtain a 1/4" inch tape dub from the ad agency, and I present it here for your listening pleasure. This transfer was made from the 1/4" tape, captured at 44.1/16 bit with no filtering, EQ, noise reduction, compression, or other monkey business. I think you'll agree that it sounds pretty darned good.
Dr. Don Rose KFRC/KTZO Simulcast (11/30/82) VPR2B 2023-11-19 | On the morning of November 30, 1982, KFRC rolled their mobile studio into the parking lot of TV 20 (KTZO) where Dr. Don Rose proceeded to do his entire show for the radio while TV 20's cameras looked on. Joining Dr. Don was his esteemed producer and engineer George Zema.This video was sourced from a 1-inch tape provided to me by the show's director, the late Steve Coulam. Sadly, the 1-inch became unplayable so all I have left is a VHS Hi-Fi dub I'd made as a backup. That's what was used for this upload.To make the show more TV friendly, several music videos were incorporated into the show -- I edited those out due to copyright concerns.

KTVU 10 OClock News Open - (2/4/87) VPR2B 2023-11-16 | This opening for KTVU's 10 O'Clock News first appeared in the mid-to-late 1980s, and is for my moment, one of the best, most creative openings for a newscast ever produced. It took an inspired genius to have the "2" logo lay down and transform into the shape of the bay. I only wish I had a better copy -- this one is marred by a technical error during the animation which briefly reveals the anchor desk.

KOVR Action News Open (1977) VPR2B 2023-11-15 | This piece of film animation was used by KOVR for the opening of their "Action News" broadcasts in 1977. This was transferred to a Sony SL-7200 Betamax from a copy of the tape that KOVR used to produce the newscast, hence you will see the animation go to black while the music bed continues.
KOVR Action News Open (1975) VPR2B 2023-11-15 | This piece of film animation was used by KOVR for the opening of their "Action News" broadcasts in 1975. This was transferred to a Sony SL-7200 Betamax from a copy of the tape that KOVR used to produce the newscast.
KGO News Open and Close - Valerie Coleman (1979) VPR2B 2023-11-15 | This open and close for KGO's "News Scene" was recorded sometime in 1979 on a Sony SL-7200 Betamax. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice the open and close are from different newscasts, as witnessed by Valerie Coleman's wardrobe change.
