People Need To Be Okay With Science Neanderthalcouzin 2011-03-30 | The Venus Project and its general ethos and goals as advocated by The Zeitgeist Movement has at its core an emphasis on science, sanely and humanely utilized. The fact is that technology is anthropoid-tech anyway: the clock radio and the car steering wheel were not invented with the Octopus in mind. Well understanding this, societal design, and its emergent culmination of human technology, infrastructure, subsistence modes, and institutions should obviously be predicated not only on science, which is radical enough, but on humanistic and sustainable scientific applications. There isn't much point in designing a communication device that requires the chemical signal an ant uses to start it up and connect to the internet. That is because we know humans generally have hands with four fingers, opposable thumbs and a precision grip. Well, equally so, we know and are continually learning about other human characteristics, such as basic fundamental human needs and requirements. An emerging, technologically cutting edge and socially efficient society will take this on board and be designed accordingly just in the same way we do with a touchscreen cell phone. And if you are not okay with science, and it taking primacy as the most reliable and demonstrable method to evaluate problems, please by all means, suggest an alternative. Why I support a Resource Based Economy Neanderthalcouzin 2011-01-29 | There are 2 simple reasons presented in the video. 1) The un-sustainability of our current operating system, if you want to think of it as an OS. 2) The more sustainable, adequate nature of the proposed Resource Based Economy. It is less vulnerable in the short and medium term, and more sustainable in the long term, making it superior on just those merits. All of the merits possibly discussed under 'free market' monetary-based economics does not refute those points, and is an example of the logical fallacy of 'proof by example': because we can find good examples, does not evidence some kind of universal law whereby it is the optimal system, or denies its un-sustainability. This is also true if we assert that 'capitalism' has had a net positive affect on human civilization. Whether or not this is true, this does nothing to refute the two initial points and the concerns described in the video. IF YOU DISAGREE WITH AN RBE: If you disagree with an RBE, or with The Zeitgeist Movement, I absolutely respect views that are respectable. In other words, if genuine concerns, holes in the logic or other criticisms that are constructive and valid are put forward Im very keen to hear. Zeitgeist the Movie ≠ The Zeitgeist Movement Neanderthalcouzin 2010-10-25 | I take back saying how much I 'disagree with the movie' and agree with the Atheist Experience. I think I was pandering really. With this video I may have contributed to the bullshit of knee-jerk reactions to Zeitgeist: the Movie. In hindsight, I think I should be honest that I think the folks at Atheist Experience have been kind of dickish about Zeitgeist: The Movie. This is to say nothing of an exceptionally poor blog post on Moving Forward by someone affiliated with the website. I would like to hope that particular blog was not placed by one of the presenters, but perhaps someone adopting the facade of a true skeptic by using their website to create a disparaging and highly credulous commentary on a movie, that they admitted they DID NOT WATCH. My only comment on the Moving Forward blogpost is that it is a deep shame the banner of Atheist Experience, which has taught people a lot about careful inquiry and rational analysis, was used to wrongly inform people of the content of a movie of which not a single frame was viewed. I find this quite astounding, and embarrassing. But back to the first movie. They claimed to deconstruct the movie and never really did, mischaracterized it as claiming Christianity is a secret esoteric conspiracy, which he never claimed, and his main arguments about the superstitutious common ancestors of all major religions being sun God worship is still valid, not ridiculous, regardless of certain details or the way it is framed.So I think in retrospect I gave the impression in this video that I agree with their behavior in regards to the claims in the first part of the movie, when in fact I don't.Also, in this video I state that I disagree with many things in the movie. That needs to be explained and I should have been more specific: I disagree with some of the specific details he attributes to certain messiah figures, NOT the overall interpretation that have tons of overlapping characteristics, and that Jesus has likely taken on lots of attributes from previous Gods, leading all the way back to ancient Egypt. In fact, I once took a mythology course and they teach this in their standard courses. So no, it is not conspiratorial nonsense at all.As I stated in the video but, as far as I am concerned in review not clearly enough: the problem the folks at Atheist Experience seem to have done, as a reliable indicator of what non-Christian intelligent people think, is they have misinterpreted this first part of the movie as trying to present some kind of secret conspiracy whereby Christianity was formed under an esoteric doctrine to control people, that church leaders and so on are aware of this terrible secret, and that they consciously worship the sun and pagan Gods while pretending it is Jesus and the Christian church to everyone else. Please don't be ridiculous. That was never the intent of the film, and if someone like me can clearly tell the difference between that kind of argument, and the argument from comparative mythology that Peter Joseph actually makes, then so can you. I believe that their fundamental problem is with the emotional and potentially paranoid-sounding tones of the movie, as some people could easily interpret. However, I really don't care about this. They and others have stated that they have a major problem with misleading people with conspiracies: I actually have a major problem with people falsely interpreting something to be a conspiracy, and constantly pushing out the idea that therefore, it is all bunk.As I state in the video, clearly this is a debate for mythology and the evolution of religion, and the overwhelming similarities between different hero myths and ancient Egyptian beliefs cannot be easily passed off with a reference to the conspiratorial tones of Zeitgeist: the Movie.My apologies to anyone who feels that I have given the impression that the arguments presented in this movie should just be disregarded. I found that I am quite interested in the stories of individuals who journey from a quite fundamental religious upbringing and background, to no longer believing and hence being an atheist. I find them often to be quite authentic and fascinating. Most people who read this probably already know Evid3nc3, but I wanted to communicate my enthusiasm for what he's been doing and perhaps encourage anyone who hasn't yet to jump over and check out his deconversion series. A Resource Based Economy Neanderthalcouzin 2010-10-05 | Please check out the original source at V-Radio: http://v-radio.org The Zeitgeist Movement advocates the Venus Project, which is simply a name used to describe the work and ideas of Jacque Fresco. The emphasis, rather than on Fresco, or worrying about names, labels, and fallible individuals, is on the overarching observations and hence criticisms of the monetary system as a whole, rather than any local, ecological, or timely concern. Unlike many still valuable causes, the emphasis here is on the system itself, as the predominant source and underlying root cause of many and most of the world's increasingly crippling problems, from technological retardation, waste and unchecked pollution, to wholesale starvation. Furthermore, money and power are inextricably linked, and as Harvard professor Niall Ferguson stated, it functioned as portable power, the accumulation of wealth ran directly with the accumulation of power, and as I would add, this fact has historically permitted an ouroborus effect, in which both compliment one another and permit the other's perpetuation. Rather than declaring money to be evil, this is rather about a rational acknowledgment of its historical contingency, and emphasizing transitioning into a new paradigm that is able to function without it. This is the economic equivalent of the evolution of computation, in which vacuum tubes were continually shrunk down until, finally, they encountered a brick wall, and a paradigm shift occurred by moving on to transistors. Something called a Resource Based Economy is proposed, and part of this is what is often referred to as a 'central database' component of what we currently know as 'governance'. This is NOT to be mistaken with political ideologies. It refers to something very much like the internet, except with a level of artificial intelligence. Like Wolfram Alpha, this is an engineered artifact that uses language understanding and directed algorithmic computation. We propose a 'system's approach' in which this computational knowledge base, accessible via the internet, is connected with all known technical processes, operations and resources, achieved via an Earth wide autonomic sensor system that generates industrial feedback: a principle used in your computer, inkjet printer, and central nervous system. It is now employed in Hewlett Packard's 'CeNSE' technology (Central Nervous System for the Earth). This is hence NOT a political ideology, but a scientific proposition applying the intimate combination of system's engineering and cybernation. It is also crucial to point out that the cybernation of domestic infrastructure, including the transport, energy, telecommunications and financial sectors of current, first world nations has been accelerating for decades. Decrying this proposal as 'totalitarian' by associating the word centralized with the historical political ideology of Communism is not relevant, no more relevant than using the same argument when reviewing the blueprints of a load-bearing structure with a central core, or, more aptly, the system's engineering used in various sanitation, irrigation, telecommunications systems, and so on. The irony of this concern is the fact that the evolution of the monetary system has lead to increasing centralization of power, and the development of monopolies, cartels, oligopoly, and eventual 'plutonomy', aside from the plain fact that almost all systems of current government incorporate a considerable degree of centralization throughout them, and of course understanding that in science the only 'tyranny' and 'dictatorship' is, for instance, of natural laws like gravity. Hence the language of tyranny is childish, and moot. Perhaps the most important points to drive home here is that this proposed system is based upon scientific reference and applications, and a true economic law of parsimony rather than the contrived Rube Goldberg Machine of our current socioeconomic system, particular that of the monetary system itself, and the plain and simple fact that this centralized, interactive database component, rather than being tyrannical in any way, shape or form, would in fact act as a conduit for true inclusive participation. It would hence act as an interactive interface between you and the technical operations of society, generating a true, modern democratic phenomenon, a lateral relationship rather than a top-down dictatorial one. If you are still unsure what I mean when I say 'applying the scientific method to society as a whole' I will put it to you in the most direct terms. System's engineers already do this with bringing water, electricity, and communications to people's homes. We are talking about upgrading to our current level of technical capability.

The aim is not for ideas to be made by elected decision makers, who are highly fallible, corruptible, and untrained beyond a specific point of focus. The aim, in fact, under a more effective, efficient and parsimonious approach, is for decisions to be arrived at via the scientific method. It is demonstrably the most reliable method in studying and understanding the underlying root cause of a given problem or challenge, and in providing subsequent solutions. At this time it is faster and more efficient than any process of legislation or the unfolding of profit seeking in providing real solutions for fundamental needs and provisions, as well as breaking the barriers of human innovation and potential. Science and mathematics stand as the most fundamentally reliable, least biased languages in denoting empirical truths, and applying our current state of understanding to the technological solutions that are the real solutions to the host of problems that still plague us across the planet, from barriers in time and space in achieving adequate communication, to wholesale starvation. The truth is that our current socioeconomic system, comprised of legal, economic, political and religious institutions often act as an enormous Rube Goldberg Machine in eventually providing what should be and is ultimately fundamental tasks solved under a far more parsimonious approach. Scientists are aware of this in regards to the operations of science in and of itself, however most do not typically turn off their field-specific lazerbeam focus for just a brief moment, and turn on the floodlights to see this in regards to their surrounding environment as a whole.Furthermore, under the proposed system's approach, true and genuine participation in the trajectory of society could mean that everyone uses something very similar to what we enjoy as the internet today, which will function as a true conduit for inclusive participation, rather than any painful top-down political ideology or process.The functioning of society is technical and hence, contributions to the overarching function is a scientific process, not a political one. Contribution and participation means engaging the scientific method with society as a whole, as it in fact already does in all the engineered systems of transportation, communication, agriculture, industrial production, sanitation, irrigation, energy and the incremental technological innovations that run contemporaneously. Such a set up would be a more sane, sustainable, and importantly, extremely cutting edge approach to what we think of as 'governance' and 'democracy'. Burka Madness Neanderthalcouzin 2010-09-19 | My response to a video of a quite likable, elderly Muslim speaker who was responding to a young woman's question as to why culturally and/or legally enforced veiling was really necessary. I disagree with the logic and apparatus behind making women wear a veil or burka, though as a cultural and religious practice I agree they have every right to do so. If you are yourself Muslim I welcome you to my channel, and to leave comments. I understand the issue is not black and white, and that not all Muslim's are in agreement: one of my Muslim friends thinks it should not be enforced in his home country (which it is). If you are interested in my take on it, it's partly in the video though a lot was removed for time. I set myself in opposition to the reasoning of the speaker, who uses the excuse of the lack of control of men (in seeing a woman's hair), and a pretty overt admission that rape is an understandable consequence, and that consequently, men have yet another right of control over women, due to their own lack of self-control. I didn't agree with or like the arguments in this speech (though over-sexualization of women in the western world is a fact), and that it had clearly been a popular video with overwhelmingly positive votes, yet no opportunity to comment. Earthquake hits Christchurch Neanderthalcouzin 2010-09-04 | A 7.4 earthquake hit the city of Christchurch today. We've been really lucky, no-one has passed away though considerable damage has occurred in parts of the city. Kiwis are cool people, they always have a sense of humor and just get on with it. That's how it's done. A bit of an emotional tone but that's more cos I was thinking of people in Haiti, Pakistan and elsewhere. It's easier to relate to them when your woken at 4:30 AM getting tossed around a room in the pitch black, and standing outside in the cold, wondering if it was just the beginning and if a Tsunami might be on its way. If we were a more united world, and didn't have a single war, the work would only just be beginning. Famine, drought, earthquakes, floods, tornados, tsunamis, disease, volcanos, even meteorites.... Nature is an awesome thing, we can only wise up, mature as a species, and deal with the real, common threats to humanity.
For the Love of Hitchens Neanderthalcouzin 2010-08-31 | I love this guy, no homo. I don't agree with everything he says, or the way he says it at times. I don't seek out overt confrontations with anyone, let alone the religiously pious, but as what George Carlin called an observer, or bystander of human beings and the world, I realize you reap what you sew. Religious bullies and the above-reproach deserve to face Hitchens. An intellectual, who often separates the wheat from the chaff. And as a final agricultural metaphor, a nurse crop upon which an emerging zeitgeist that is critical of religiosity can exist.
