【Alter/Ego Original】Android of Notre Dame - Bones

The title is yoinked from a Japanese horror movie (Guinea Pig: Android of Notre Dame), the plot of which has absolutely nothing to do with this song. I just thought the phrase was neat. Rather, the song is heavily inspired by a DIFFERENT set of of J-horror movies. Those being Futsu Saizu no Kaijin (as shown in the music video), and its much more well-known remake, Tetsuo: The Iron Man. I've been rediscovering my love of cybergoth and industrial sounds lately, and I'm excited to branch out and have fun experimenting with my music again. c:

RorunaK 2017-01-10 | A thousand years isn't long enough to forget all the mistakes you've made, but it's just long enough to forget the faces of those you've loved.

After being missing in action for just over a year due to life hitting me like a sack of bricks, I finally return with a new song! Well, "new." This song is OLD. I started writing it in 2015, and the music project for it was created at the beginning of January last year. The instrumental was finished in early 2016, but I just never finished the vocals. I didn't think it deserved to rot away on my hard drive forever, so I finished up the VSQx and mixed it over the last few days. Anyway, this is just the first song of the year. I have dozens of songs I'm planning to finish, so expect more soon!

In chess, the Fool's Mate is a strategy to get yourself checkmated in just two moves. I learned that this was a thing when I did it in a game against my teacher. (I'm very, very bad at chess.)

I do like her voice, but I don't think I'll be buying her new VB when it comes out...it's a lil difficult to tune, and isn't really one I'd like to use for lots of songs. I did, however, think this song fit her quite nicely.

Sorry about the missing harmonies - apparently I accidentally deleted the entire harmony part while tuning (GOOD JOB, ME), and by the time I noticed they were missing, the song was almost entirely mixed and I didn't wanna go back and tune them and add them in. Sorry. XD

My second gift UST! I gotta say, if there's one song in the world a Vocaloid or UTAU should sing, it's definitely this. Seriously, watch the original video - it's a very interesting, and actually somewhat sad, look at the loss of the "humanity" of idol singers. Have we completely blurred the line between a human singer and a synthesized voice with a dancing MMD model?

This version of the song is lovely, and fits Lyric's soft voice perfectly IMO.

This is a relatively new song, but the moment I heard it I thought "Hito NEEDS to sing this."

I couldn't find romaji lyrics anywhere, so some of the lyrics might not be 100% accurate. They're as close as I could get to how the original sounded, though!

From my experimenting with the trial version of Meiko's power bank, she has some strengths, but a LOT of weaknesses. She has a super limited range (this song fell pretty much within it), and her upper octaves are a bit "whoa there friend you might need to slow down." She's also extremely nasally, and very muffled in the lower range.

BUT, she has a lot of potential! Sorry I'm not good enough to bring it out yet. XD

RorunaK 2013-12-18 | I actually had most of the parts of this done a while ago, but recently sometime around 2 in the morning I picked them up and mixed them (which was the hard part), as well as tuned a lot of the melody part.

A lot of Steel's pitchbends made Ppoiyo sound ridiculously drunk (ODOREYA EVERYBODY *hic*), so I redid my own pitchbends in several places. It gives a different feel to the singing at the chorus, but hopefully it's not too out of place!

I wanted to try and add fun extra stuffs at the dubstep parts, but I'm nowhere near good enough at mixing to do that yet oops.

Hoo boy where do I even start with this song. This is a collab between my precious husband (I mean friend oops) Machine and me. He did most of the work though.

I had the idea of writing a song based on a character from a story Machine wrote - specifically, a vocaloid-universe fanfic that portrayed VY2 has a very interesting and tragic character. I wrote the music, but I realized I couldn't think of lyrics - Machine went 500 miles ahead of the call of duty, and not only wrote these lovely lyrics from the character's perspective, but ALSO undertook the incredibly difficult task of making VY2 and Gakupo sing in English, tuning and everything. AND THEN made this fabulous art sobs.

The instrumental in this "pianoside" version of the song was actually recorded in the top floor of a museum, hence the occasional bg noise. (My friends actually hung signs up about "quiet pls recording in progress" - I still had to do lots of takes). "Machineside" is the same song, but the instrumental is arranged by Machine.

I apologize for the occasional offtime-ness of the instrumental - I'm not really accustomed to playing to a click track.

Oh my god this song and this game. Let me just...if you've never played Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon - do it. Go out and play it right now. It is honestly one of the most beautiful and emotional pieces of art I've ever had the joy of experiencing.

The game is sad as all hell, though that's what makes it great. (To put it in perspective: I pretty much never cry at games. I'm not even finished with it yet, and I've already cried at Fragile Dreams THREE times.) A large part of the "beautiful sadness" factor is its music - probably the most lovely game soundtrack in existence. I'll be making a cover of the ending theme for this later, which is even MORE pretty and sad.

RorunaK 2013-10-24 | It's been almost a year since I started using UTAU, and a couple months since I started using Vocaloid. In that year, I've learned a lot. I've gotten infinitely better at playing music by ear since I started making USTs. Translating songs has given me new motivation to keep learning the languages I love. The community has inspired me to make a lot more original music, and while I'm still a beginner, I've already become a much better composer because of it.

More than that, I've met some amazing people in this fandom. Not only the friends I've made (especially that one person who now holds a special place in my heart - you know who you are o w o), but the amazing musicians, artists, and utau/vocaloid users I've talked with.

You guys are all amazing.

【UTAU】Bacterial Contamination - DEMONLOID 【細菌汚染】

Okay, so I should prooobably explain what's going on here. What you're hearing is actually the results of the first time I ever tried to make an UTAU VB, right after I got into the fandom and realized I could make my own VB. Yeah, I fucked it up THAT bad.

First of all - the voice is not heavily edited in any way. Though I did add some reverb on the main vocals and some autotune on the harmony (because WHY NOT), this is literally what she sounds like in UTAU. So, how did my first attempt at an utau end up sounding like this?

1.Microphone. I recorded this on the lowest-quality mic you could possibly imagine, with background noise out the wazoo. That's the reason for her hissing/distortion - the voice samples were 10% my voice, 90% air and hissing.
2.Not understanding how "noise removal" worked. I was a complete noob to everything, and I'd heard that using audacity's noise removal on your voice samples helped give you "high quality samples". Lolololol. I just used it on every sample directly, which probably also contributed to the demonic sound and glitching.
3.Not staying on one pitch while recording. I didn't record with a tone playing in my headphones like I did for Dio, and as a result, as I got through the reclist, my voice steadily got higher. I started out on "a" at B3, and by the time I was at "zu" I was at F4. Yeah, that bad.
4.Not understanding how to oto. This should be p obvious by listening to it, but Demonloid (as I've fondly taken to calling her) never had an oto.

Now, compare THIS to Dione. Same voice. See how much difference a little experience and knowledge can make?

This lovely song comes from the second game. I was planning on making a cover of Hoshingoeika from Siren 1, but I can't find the lyrics for it, and like I've mentioned, I'm horrible at transcribing things by ear.

This UST is actually reeeally old, I had it mostly finished a couple months ago. The only problem was that no instrumental of this song exists, and I was having trouble recreating the original. But today I decided to pick up the UST and fine-tune it, and due to the atonal, free-flowing nature of the original song, I thought it would work to just use an ambient background as an instrumental. (I just arranged/edited the sound effects.)

Obviously the UST isn't exact - it's intended to be an interpretation of the song, rather than a straight cover. It's hard to capture the creepy vibe a human voice gave this song.

This fucking song, man. This fucking song. Die Schatten Werden Länger, aka Yami ga Hirogaru, aka The Shadows Grow Longer, is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. It's from the musical Elisabeth, which everyone should watch if you haven't already. I wish I could express how weirdly homoerotic this song is, but you really have to watch a performance of it to see for yourself.

Anyway, so I finally got around to making a UST for this! Ppoiyo is singing Death/Der Tod/Touto's part, while Ron is singing Rudolf's part. Ron is really hard to mix ffff. Please ignore the fact that the background singers are singing in German on the last chorus - there was no version of the instrumental without them. Actually they were also singing on the second chorus in the original, but I edited them out.

This is the first UST I've made where I really went full out on pitchbends and vibrato, and also my first real VCV UST. I really like working with Ppoiyo's lower range (this is his EDGE bank, obviously).

Oh boy, let me tell you about me and the Swimming Anime. I only started watching it as a joke. I was like "Hah, all these people on Tumblr fangirling over those swimmer dudes, I'll watch the first episode, probably have a good laugh about how ridiculous it is." I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE SO GOOD. It's really entertaining, absolutely hilarious, I adore the soundtrack, and the animation is beautiful. (Especially the water. Pretty sparkly animated water.) So, I accidentally fell headfirst into the Free! fandom. Whoops.

But it seemed like everyone was paying so much attention to the ending theme, while I preferred the opening. When I saw that there was a UST for Splash Free, I thought, why not make one for Rage On? So...I did.

I cranked this out in around four hours, so it's not perfect. I was having a lot of trouble timing everything perfectly in the VSQ, and it's still not exact, but it's the closest I got.

It's "go" in the VSQx. (...I just realized the irony of a problem between "go" and "ko" in a cover of a song from this specific show...that is a beautiful coincidence.)

Normally it's not a problem, but currently I have so many WIPs that it is actually stressing me out. (Which is kind of sad.) So, just understand that over the next couple of days I'll be trying to GET COVERS OUT OF THE WAY. I'm sorry if I'm working on something for you and you're waiting for me to finish - the next few things I upload probably won't be what you want to see. I just want to get these old WIPs finished and put up, so I can focus on making those things I owe you wonderful.
