I felt like I'm back in middle school and discovering cool MVs like the ones for KagePro series or Deco's.I actually had this arrangement finished within a week upon the song release but I don't know, it's been getting harder working on piano projects. I enjoy the process of creating my covers, however everything else outside the writing part is a drag. Especially audio editing, I dread having to do it lol ▪ This is a very fast paced song, had trouble figuring out how to space the vocal melody in a way that it retains the original speed while also not completely tiring the hands. I'm not good at playing the same note extremely fast repeatedly, which this song relies on, so I tried to emulate the same speedy delivery by using broken chords and oscillating between the notes (e.g. 0:41, 1:10). The original melody already uses this at times so adding extra stuff like this in other parts sounds natural. ▪ The instrumental break at 1:34 was the hardest part to figure. Transcribing was easy but actually making sense of it and editing in a playable way was a headache. It's still really tricky to play. It's a mess of very fast notes and wide jumps. I'll probably just simplify the section when I play for myself going forward but I'm keeping it in the sheets for any veteran attempting this haha▪ I finally realized I can actually just shrink the measurements in the page for the sheets so I can reduce page count. I'm a clown, no idea why I never bothered to check Musescore's page layout settings before LMAO Please let me know if there's issues printing this though! Been using same export settings for 3 years yet past year the quality of the bg images went down, and with this video it seems even the audio got distorted 😭 exported 3 versions with varying settings and they all became victims of YT's encoder. Anyway, absolutely evil of them to pick a bossa nova style song on such a heavy MV, has me confused if I should 🕺💃 or lay down and cry. Though, weirdly enough, it's fitting for the bitter-sweet conclusion of the story. ▪ The very first verse was initially an octave lower, literally changed it to a higher registry at the last minute as I wrapped up the sheets. Figured it is more fitting with Mizi's gentle singing at the start. Besides, originally I had some very wide chords in the left hand that had to be rolled. Given the difficulty of the following parts, decided it's best to have an easy start before it all goes down haha. ▪ The volume is kind of all over the place. It is intended but also...I think my piano VST overdid it with the loudness in some parts, which was then amplified by YouTube's awful compression (I can hear this white noise at times that are not present or noticeable in the original file smh, never had so many artifacts in the audio)▪ To anyone attempting this, sorry in advance for 4:53. I really wanted to include the fast arpeggios that can be heard in the instrumental, makes it sound so epic! Took me over an hour play testing this part until it sounded the way I want while still manageable. It's not even that hard from a technical POV, it's just the fast tempo that's making it a challenge to play. ▪ Regarding the sheets: I broke the phrasing at the end because I had to cram in the last part to avoid extending it to 7 sheets. The song was surprisingly more difficult to transcribe than I initially thought. ▪ For the first verses, I initially had the vocal melody an octave above the original just so I could properly play the left hand chords. In the end I shifted back to the original key since it sounded better. That meant now I had to work through the left hand notes and decide what to remove and what to keep/change because A LOT of stuff overlapped. Took forever but I think I nailed the harmonies (it's also why sometimes the right hand plays the left hand chords). ▪ The parts at 1:04 and 2:24 left me confused because no matter how I approached them, something always sounded off. The vocal melody is off key here and it's clashing with the bass notes. It's not noticeable in the original song but really makes itself known on piano. Managed to smooth it over thanks to arpeggios though. ▪ The left hand is working overtime during the chorus! Haha, I wanted to keep the notes within the same octave range but sounds better with wide jumps + this was good motivator to actually practice those for once (I often avoid playing pieces with wide jumps).▪ During some sections I made the right hand play two melodies (vocals and strings). You can see that at 1:36 and 2:06 ! I generally don't really include 2 melodies into the RH but the song has so many harmonies, I think adding them elevates the feel of it on piano. It was lots of trial and error making it playable though LOL▪ For sheet music users: I hope the amount of ledger lines above and below staff is okay. I personally dislike ledger lines and try to use 8vas frequently but here I really had no idea how to write stuff during the wide jumps. I have to be honest, I struggled working on it, which surprised me since rock songs are easy for me to arrange. Generally, a song has a new bass note at the start of a measurement however for All-in it has one note across 2 measurements during the choruses (a B flat). This got me stuck because it sounded so dull and boring with the usual left-hand patterns I use. The instrumental for those parts is mostly just bass and drums and transcribing the bass line sounded weird on piano (imo). Soooo to make it pop more I focused on adding additional notes for rhythm and more chords in the left hand. The result is an annoying to play pattern but hey! sounds rich enough. ▪ At the "Break ya!" part, I transcribed the note as a D even though I think the actual note is C sharp (?) The singer's voice has this intentional voice crack here so I though shifting to D will give the same vibe (0:42). ▪ The break at 2:02 was another pesky little thing, I genuinely had no idea what to even do with it so I kept it simple. Some random notes: ▪ For the life of me I couldn't make this sync with the original track without it sounding weird. It's synced perfectly once the drums kick in, but not the beginning part. It's not really important but it still bugs me lol ▪ Lots of staccato with this one, which was fun to play while I was figuring out what left hand pattern to use for the chorus and other bits. ▪ The beginning sequence was honestly the most annoying one to figure out. One of my early attempts was to add a fast arpeggio on the left hand to simulate the percussion so it has the same fast energy. However I really didn't like how it sounded so I just dropped it and went for a more mellow vibe (I think it works better anyway given how energetic the rest of the song is). ▪ At 0:58 I added an extra melody in the left hand that's not present in the song because I thought it sounds cool LOL it also gave it a bit more variety which I like to have. It can be a bit of a hassle to play though, so you can easily substitute it with the pattern from the chorus. Both sound good ! ▪ Editing the sheet music was painTM. I wanted to keep it 3 pages long but everything looked so cramped. It would've looked horrible when printed so I had to space everything up and increase it to 4 pages. As always, sorry if there's confusing parts. Kept debating if I should stick to the original or do my own thing with it. Figured most of you probably want it as close to the original as possible so I went with the first option in the end. The song is relatively easy to play, that is until Part 2 comes up haha. At first I wanted to keep it chill, without much stuff going on in the lower notes since the high notes in the right hand are quite annoying to play already. But who am I kidding, I like adding spice to my arrangements so it was inevitable that I'll add extra stuff in the left hand 😅 The hardest part is most likely 2:40 due to that quick octave roll in the left hand (I'm still fumbling there) but to make it easier, you can just do the roll an octave higher (same as the following chord). At 2:37 there's a fast synth melody playing in the original song but it sounded so disjointed on piano, I just made up some random melody in the right hand instead based on the established style. Made the left play some complementary notes here as well which created quite a nice melody, although I feel like it deviated a bit from the original LOL Btw, I really have no idea why but lately YT seems to really ruin the quality of my videos (specifically the bg picture). Thought that maybe I messed up during rendering but nah, it's something on their end. I apologize for the amount of 8vas and 15mas in the sheets, my first time working with long sections in such a high register. However it wasn't until Till's 2nd round that I properly checked the series out //Till's my fav. You can guess how I feel after the final round though LOLNotes about the arrangement: ▪ The beginning part sounded too bland on piano for my liking so I added some extra notes in the left hand for more rhythm. Was honestly debating if I should just go all soft and pianissimo on it for a more melodic sound but then it would change the original tone. Idk if going for a closer sound to the original was better or not though, did my best here. ▪ The arrangement relies heavily on what I call "rhythmic octaves" where you hit an octave then the 2 notes in it one after another. You can see it in places such as 0:12, 0:51 or 2:19. I think I've only used it once a bit in the interlude of my CURE arrangement. Since this song is carried a lot by the steady beats, using this technique felt appropriate.▪ For the second half, I shifted to a softer tone (1:24) and added a different left hand pattern compared to the same melody in the first part (1:33) to add more variety so it doesn't sound too repetitive. I think it made the overall flow more interesting and less boring. ▪ Also added this one fun thing where you play 2 notes with both thumbs like at 0:11. First I spend over an hour on the thumbnail because nothing aligned well, next my laptop forces a Windows update mid-video rendering which in turn ruins my internet drivers so I couldn't connect to wifi, then I realize some parts sound off and have to be changed 👍But everything aside, hope you guys enjoy my rendition of this song! Useless facts:- Originally, I transcribed the drums in the opening part. However after discussing it with friends, they were removed from the final version as they sounded too disjointed. - The part right after the chorus (1:11) originally had the left hand imitating the drums. Unfortunately it meant getting rid of the piano parts from the song as it became overly difficult (and kind of impossible) to play. So I changed the left hand into something more calm since I believe the piano parts were too important to omit just to replicate the drums lol. - The chorus break at 2:19 ... it's embarrassing to admit how long I've been stuck here haha. I wanted to have a break on piano as well but in this part the vocals are somewhat off-beat which made it sound really bad. I had to smooth that over with arpeggios, although I feel like it doesn't have the same effect as the original. I tried my best 😔- For the choruses, I tried to somehow match the energy of the MV visuals! The first chorus has a calmer, steadier rhythm to it = fitting the scene where Ivan looks at the sky. Then the left hand picks up a bit of speed, matching the shuffling of images from his childhood. In the second chorus I shifted the keys lower to parallel Ivan's deep voice since we get more images of him singing, then the keys jump up mirroring the sudden red sky in the MV. I merged the two so it follows the MV version until the end then at 3:40 it shifts into the last chorus of the album one. Fun fact (?): For Ivan's part (1:33) I took the *REALLY* difficult decision to shift the main melody into the left hand while the right plays the accompaniment. Then I got the idea ''Hey, this song would sound nice in a mellow piano arrangement'' and then this cover happened lol. The original song seems to be written in G minor but I decided to transpose it to A minor to make it sound more melancholic. Also, since I intended to arrange this in a more "ballad" style, I took some freedom to do whatever I want with certain parts that would've been otherwise tricky to transcribe ahaha. The tempo has also been slowed down to 120 bpm, instead of the original 131 just to make it sound more pleasing on piano. Anyway, kiichi's music is what introduced and made me fall in love with the more experimental vocaloid songs. I genuinely feel so calm listening to any of his songs, there's this feeling of comfort that I cannot really explain, perhaps some of you may relate to what I say. As for the arrangement, it's one that I play the most on piano. It's not as difficult as it looks, tho the left hand pattern during the chorus might be a bit challenging (I still make some mistakes there lol). It is repetitive but I think it fits very well with the original song's dreary mood.I wasn't planning to post this but thought some of you may want to learn to play this song on piano given that there aren't any music sheets available for it anywhere (at least I haven't seen any). The lyrics are probably what I love the most about it, they feel very personal and just ... raw? Nothing fancy, just a very realistic "talking to yourself" presentation. Even though this arrangement is quite old (from early 2019 I think??), I'm really proud of how it turned out. It's one of the few cases when I believe I managed to arrange the song the way I feel it (if that makes any sense ahaha). Also, the producer made a similar song called "Last Stage" which is kind of like an alternative ending to the same scenario. I'll definitely arrange that one someday as well.
