For this (short) one, join me, Josh Herod, Tim Watson, and Brandon Glomski for 23 miles of hiking in the beautiful but unforgiving Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia.

After a six-hour drive, we arrived on a Saturday at 3 p.m. We hiked 11 miles on day one, camped, and then hiked the remaining 12 miles the next day back to our cars. The weather was great, except for a little rain shower, and the scenery did not disappoint.

This is much shorter than many of my trip videos, but it captures the essence of the adventure and the friendship of these four guys.

Join me for a quick but exciting overnight on the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail on the Kentucky/Virginia border.

This remote and rugged trail spans many miles. This particular section is 15 miles long. However, I didn't have a shuttle, so I did a six-mile out and back. I will definitely need to return and do this entire section.

The trail is very diverse, with lots of features and views. There are rock shelters, caves, streams, and so much more.

Sedona is a beautiful city located in the northern part of Arizona, known for its stunning natural beauty, spiritual energy, and outdoor activities. The Firemaple Star X2 is a super fast, high-quality chimney-style stove. It boils water extremely fast and has a reliable Piezo igniter. The stove has some additional unique features, such as a locking handle and adapter for use with other cookware. It takes any standard butane canister (except some Coleman models), and everything can nest within the pot itself. The plastic handle and silicone knob on the lid keep the user safe.

While I won't be using this for ultralight backpacking, it will definitely be going with me for other camping and overlanding excursions. If you're looking for an all-in-one cooking system at a great price, be sure to check it out!

Deep in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee sits Glamping Retro, an all-new, luxurious camping experience.

If you or the people in your life don't really enjoy camping, this is a great option. It includes all the amenities of a modern living space with the rustic feel of camping. The property sits on several acres 3000 feet above sea level in the mountains of Tennessee on the border of Pisgah National Forest, only a mile from North Carolina and Spivey Gap on the Appalachian Trail.

The Get Out Gear Puffy Down Blanket is a nice lightweight option for warm-weather backpacking. It's of good quality, with a 20D ripstop nylon shell, 650 down fill, and DWR coating. The stitching and construction are good for a mass-produced product. It kept me warm down to the high 40's. This will be going with me on many more summer trips.

Exploring Michigan Part 1 - Manistee

For this multi-part adventure, join me and my buddy @JoshEbersole in that state up north--Michigan. Part One is a backpacking adventure along the Manistee River. This gorgeous section of northern woods has some of the best scenery I've ever seen. The trail is not difficult, and the payoff is more than worth it. Every campsite we came across was a winner, and the one we chose was stunning. The NCT side of the loop is a bit less scenic and has almost no water.

The BEST Ohio Day Hike with the Waymark MILE

Join me for an amazing journey through one of the best outdoor areas in the state of Ohio. This small gem has some of the best overlooks and rock formations in the state. A short hike through the center of the gorge leads to a peaceful and beautiful waterfall. It's truly a wondrous place!

And, I'm bringing a new piece of gear to test out on this hike--the Waymark MILE. I think I might be in love with this pack. It's the perfect day hiking companion.

A Lesson in Gear Redundancy

OutLan Outdoors 2021-09-02 | Sometimes, going minimally isn't all it's cracked up to be--especially when you forget or mess up a vital piece of gear.

On my last trip to Mohican State Park, I grabbed the wrong ridgeline for my tarp and ended up having to use a little ingenuity and mess up another piece of gear in the process. A little extra cordage would have taken care of the problem in an instant.

The moral of the story is, it doesn't hurt to be redundant with some gear when you're in the backcountry.
