I lost track of how many hours I spent on this but it was a lot over a course of a couple weeks. The more I use it the smoother it's getting and it's currently running very smooth. I still think a manual tire changer is amazing, especially with the custom mount/dismount levers I've made. It won't save much time if any vs those in mounting/dismounting. Where I think this professional changer shines is the bead breaker. The manual bead breaker on a manual tire machine can take you 10x-100x as long as mounting/dismounting and sometimes it's impossible. I may do a head to head if people are interested. Both of those I use all the time but they are expensive to say the least. -CHARGER CIRCUIT BOARDS: They run off a t4056 chip that charges lithium cells at 1amp. Some of the boards also have an output where you would power your device and it would shut off power when it got too low; "low voltage cutoff". You CAN'T use this function for power tools as they draw way too much and you will cook the board in 1 second. Wire it like I show in the video. There is no low voltage cutoff, so you will have to be smart and know when the tool is low on power. This will be your last sign to charge before you ruin the cells. I have pressure tested up to 45psi and 65mph. I would guesstimate in the past year I've saved over $3000 vs buying new tires for me/friends/family. Total cost to get set up should be sub $200, with each repair costing maybe 50cents in material(cushion gum). That just so happens to coincide with the price of a single new tire, so it pays for itself after 1 repair. It takes around 30minutes for me to demount, buff, sew and apply new cushion gum. Then an hour to cook and for the chemical reaction with heat and pressure to turn chewing gum consistency rubber into a tire(gotta love chemistry). Repairs like this should only be done on Off Road, ATV, UTV and Tractor tires. NOT all tires can be repaired especially if this is your first time repairing one. I practiced on and old tire for weeks before getting comfortable. I spoke to professionals in this trade over a 2year span perfecting this skill. A 1inch gash is no problem at all. A 2" inch gash is easily doable, a 3" gets significantly more difficult and so on. NOT ALL TIRES ARE REPAIRABLE especially car tires as they are too thin to take almost any repair. Don't believe all the FEAR-MONGERING around tires, but also don't do something outside your abilities. TECHNICAL DATA:Trouble shooting:Rubber not set up after heating- run the head cycle longerBulge repair- Sewing not sufficient or repair too large to support damageVulcanizing GlueEthanol Free Gasoline 50-50 with Cushion gum(2 days to dilute). You can thin it out with more gas or thicken with more cushion gum. DO NOT used store bought "vulcanizing fluid" as it is meant for COLD repairs. You can find HOT vulcanizing fluid but it is around $30 amzn.to/3AZGYF6Temperature300F for 60 minutes with a 1/4-3/8" thick sidewall. Longer time is required for thicker repairs.Tubes: 10 minutes Inside Patch: I like to make my own with the string/cord like I show but you could apply a large reinforced sidewall patch after. I didn't pay much for this and expected it to be gimmicky but I was surprised. I can't imagine this would take me more than an afternoon and $200 to build from scratch. However it does require a decent size air compressor of at least 20 gallons. My main 60gallon had no problems keeping up with it. It looks like it was $400 new in 2001 plus shipping of probably at least $100. That would translate to roughly $600plus$150 in today's money. SPECS if you want to build one yourself. The upright square tubes are only 1/8" thick wall(2x2). The top and bottom braces are 2x3 1/4" wall as they take a side load and need more strength. The other dimensions are not important in the slightest if you want to build one yourself. Why an old 60amp 1g vs newer 130amp 3g alternator? Simple, the 1g puts less strain on the motor at lower rpm. The 3g will bog the motor and kill low end power. At the same rpm; a 1g is putting out 30amps where a 3g is putting out 110amps. That's nearly 4x the load on the engine. That's 1320 watts or another way to think is it's using nearly 2hp of the engines power. The 1g is only using 1/2hp. Yes more power is great but not at the expense of engine power.I intentionally tried to use a smaller drive pulley on the motor. It's a lot smaller than you would find on a vehicle driving this alternator(about 1/2). This is because I wanted to maintain as little engine power loss as possible at lower rpm. This means the engine needs more rpm to produce the same amps. An old Ford is going to turn around 2-2500rpm on average while driving(roughly 50amps output). This ATV/UTV is going to spin at 4000-6000rpm on average(roughly 50amps output). This was a 7.2v model which while running with nicad would be a voltage range of 9 to 6 volts/7.2v nominal. The 12 volt lithium has a range of 12 to 9 volts /10.8 volts nominal. So about 50% more. No load RPM on the side of the tool says 600. I just tested no load RPM with an lithium upgrade and I'm getting roughly 900 rpm. 5 days later. still working. awesome. I drilled an inch and a half hole with a spade bit no problem. This drill really has been woken up and works comparable to a modern drill. Some of the boards also have an output where you would power your device and it would shut off power when it got too low. You CAN'T use this function for power tools as they draw way too much and you will cook the board in 1 second. Wire it like I show in the video. There is no low voltage cutoff, so you will have to be smart and know when the tool is low on power. This will be your last sign to charge before you ruin the cells. Honestly you would have to be pretty oblivious to keep pushing it though.Buy New batteries: If buying new, I would buy a single 21700 cell like the "Samsung 40T" . These are around $6 plus ship from various suppliers online. I wouldn't worry about using 2 18650 cells like I did as it is very tight. Soldering on Lithium cells: I've done easily 500 cells now and never had a single issue. I have tried to damage them and haven't been able too. I mainly deal with Hi Discharge cells though that are rated to handle high heat. Steps: sand the cell top; soldering iron as hot as possible; rosin flux works fine but takes 2-3 seconds longer; Acid flux(plumbing flux) is super fast but wipe off surface after tinning; use rosin core solder to tin the contact and wire/nickel strip; Solder away. If it takes over 5 seconds to see solder melting/flowing, stop and check your setup. After Thoughts about the Video: The great thing is Lithium doesn't care when you charge it..... What a fantastic little ratchet. I used it this afternoon on my 1952 Ferguson tractor to remove a starter switch and it was great. I'm happy with the $20 purchase combine with the $2 charging chip and free battery cells. Years ago I actually did experiments with tire rubber and a bunch of chemicals. Mainly for tire shine applications to see what hurt and dry rotted rubber. I used brake fluid, wd-40, PB Blaster and a few other tire shine chemicals. I would apply these to the sidewall of a tire that sat in the sun. Applications were monthly for about 2 years then I started to loose interest as nothing was happening. I randomly applied it for around 5-6years. Nothing had any affect after even 5-6 years, so I gave up. I thought brake fluid would eat it for sure, but no. The length of the stubby arm plays hugely into the force/leverage you can apply. However too long and it starts flexing and getting into the way. I settled on 3" from center of bolt to center of 1/2" socket. I just need to build a 3/8" version.
