Hello, my name is Daniel Burrows and I am Founder and CEO of XStream Trucking. We are a team of scientists and engineers working to modernize the $700B long haul trucking industry by reducing harmful emissions and saving fuel.
Trucking is a pillar of the U.S. economy and employs millions of Americans. They literally drive our economy, but there is a cost: Truckers spend $100 billion a year on fuel and while they only account for 4% of the vehicles on the road, they account for a quarter of all carbon emissions.
So here at XStream, we asked: What if we could reduce the environmental impact of trucking while also improving the profitability of truck fleets?
Our team set to work and identified one huge opportunity. The unnecessary extra drag caused by the gap between the cab and the trailer.
So why does the gap exist?
The gap allows to easily turn and manoeuvre at low speeds through cities.
But on highways, sharp turn are strongly discouraged. Our device deploys at speeds above 40 mph smoothing the junction to make your truck more like a bullet train. Then it retracts when you slow down to let you turn tight corners at low speeds.
This gap is a major contributor of aerodynamic turbulence resulting in substantial drag. Our solution? The TruckWing, which closes the gap between the cab and trailer, directing the air smoothly over the junction.
The effect is to streamline the truck, which increases your fuel efficiency by eliminating the additional drag.
At 65mph 2/3rds of your fuel is spent overcoming this wind drag, so its worth paying attention to!
At XStream, we are using aerodynamics to bring you a more efficient truck. We love numbers and have tested the TruckWing every which way. After each test, we improve our design and build a new, more efficient model using the latest manufacturing techniques
Our first tests were done using computer models.
Then we conducted multiple wind tunnel tests and ran a series of analysis to confirm our savings.
And finally we ran track tests using standard big rigs.
All our testing confirmed that the gap causes significant additional drag and that the TruckWing solves the problem.
Our device installs onto your cab only, requiring no trailer modifications at all. There is no driver training or compliance required.
At Xstream Trucking, we’re proud of the TruckWing and we’re confident you will find it an efficient way to make a positive impact to your bottom line. With fuel and maintenance savings combined with green credentials, the TruckWing just makes sense.
