There's a little girl in Skibbereen, with flowing hair and ragged jeans And floating in a vivid dream, as classes go by
And every day at 3 o'clock, she's out the door and down the block And hurries to the river dock, a gleam in her eyes
And everything's fine for the day There's nothing to get in the way of her smile There's never a care for tomorrow Cuz Molly's a princess today
The barricade's a castle wall, 47 miles tall The river’s got a waterfall, the moat is so deep
The cedar trees are canopies, a ceiling made of needle leaves A buzzing fleet of honeybees is guarding the keep
And no one can take this away What lives in her mind will remain there to stay There's never a care for tomorrow Cuz Molly's a princess today
Real life can be lifeless and cold When your heart grows up and gets old The dreams of your past never seem to quite last In a future that's so far away But here in the place, you know Molly… is a princess today
In little while, it's dinnertime, she leaves the kingdom in her mind A bookmark in the storyline, a chapter is done
The mystery of what will be, tomorrow, when the clock strikes three There beneath the cedar trees, the princess will come
And there's nothing that she couldn't do When she closes her eyes, and imagines the view There's never a care for tomorrow Cuz Molly's a princess today Yeah, there's never a care for tomorrow Cuz Molly's a princess today

It felt as good as anything I've written, but probably wouldn't have felt quite right on one of my normal albums. Speaking of which, today's the day: "Standard Deviations" is now available for download on my website, and streaming in all the places!

You're the bacon to my eggs in a Sunday morning brunch You're the pepper to my salt, the juicy to my crunch You're the sushi, I'm the fake wasabi on the side You're the brie and I'm the screw-top wine
Everything tastes better When we are together Cooking up our perfect recipe
You're the cookie to my milk, when Santa comes to town You're the gravy dripping off my mashed potato mound You're the jelly spread upon my peanut butter toast The scoop of custard in my root beer float
Everything tastes better When we are together Cooking up our perfect recipe
You're the macaroni to the packet of my cheese You're the mustard to my ketchup, you're my favorite squeeze You're the guacamole in my beefy nacho bowl You're the chicken soup to my soul

Looking through the junk drawer, searching Somewhere there's a lighter, lurking To light my daughter's fourteen birthday candles
I came across, a bag of knick-knacks Orphaned screws, expired tic tacs And a key from long ago
Is it from my house when I was growing up And you were always showing up And throwing little pebbles at my window
I would tip-toe down the stairway And past my parents, where they Were drifting in the land of nod
And I'd go out, sneaking through the side door I would plant a little fairy kiss, there upon your cherry lips And I held your freezing hands Our love was still so very new, but I knew that I would marry you You've always been the key, to open me
Was it our apartment by the bakers When you were pushing papers And I was working second shift
At times you barely saw me But we always had our coffee On the balcony with a morning kiss
Then at night, I'd stumble in exhausted I would crawl in bed and snuggle you, we'd mash up like a W With the angles all aligned Even when my back was hurting me, we always fit so perfectly You've always been the key, to open me
Was it our bungalow in Findlay With a picket fence and chimney And a garden full of pretty weeds
You were in your third trimester With cravings that would fester Until you filled the need
So it's out the door, for pickles and Doritos Another midnight run for groceries, I fumble for my pants and keys But I was glad to do it You were sailing through the troubled seas, to find the final puzzle piece You've always been the key, to open me
So many doors, I've closed and opened Some were stuck, and some were broken But this key won't open anything of interest
You've been here from the beginning Now even in the 7th inning You're still the only key, to open meJosh Woodward: The Merrier (Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2023-05-11 | Track #2 from my upcoming EP, "Standard Deviations"!

Before the war, he would dream The family store, quiet streams
Annabelle, on the beach Sunset on her face Twilight fell, out of reach In the gloaming haze and
Endings rarely wait For the grand finale No one knows the date Of the final tally
Soon you’ll look behind And you’ve already passed it The stars that once had shined Outlasted
Before the war, they would dance To music up the stairs And stroll around holding hands In the crowded market square
He hugged her close for the last time But he didn’t know it then We never know it’s the last time Till we can’t again, and

February, heart of darkness Pit of anguish and despair February is the harvest The rotten fruit of all your prayers
Where the snow is grey and slushy It’s where the sky is grey and drab It’s where my mind is grey and mushy It’s where the future is the past And now, we must shovel out Of our hovel house And go back to work
February, in the gutter Rotten leaves and empty vines February, in the shutters Close the windows, shut the blinds
And the groundhog pokes his head up And sees the shadows all around I can’t blame him if he’s fed up As he burrows in to Disappear for six more years Till the sun appears another day
February, please just leave us I’m sick and tired of the rest I know you’re short and all, but Jesus The northern hemisphere’s depressed
And I’d be dodging cupid’s arrow But his aim is never true So I’ll just sit and watch the sparrow And I’ll imagine that away he flew Off to somewhere new Where the skies are blue And the days are longJosh Woodward: Better Days (New Album Out!)Josh Woodward2021-12-01 | My 14th album, "Sandcastles", is now unleashed onto the world! Were there ever really better days? Or is it just a sentimental haze? A blanket safe and warm A shelter from the stormy skies
The fights are all forgotten in the mist The lonely tears are lost in the abyss The grass is always green The house is always clean The smiles never seem to fade
Were there ever really better days? In photographs of sepia and grey The family huddled tight Beneath the perfect light of dusk
Stand before the camera and say cheese And for the slightest moment we all freeze With smiles open wide We’re frozen there in time Our sorrows hidden deep inside our minds
Were there ever really better days? Or are they just a mirror that we made? Stare it in the eyes Shatter all the lies Then go into the open wide beyondJosh Woodward: The Box (Official Video)Josh Woodward2021-11-19 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/TheBox

Underneath the stairs, on the basement floor Behind a stack of records and a plywood door There’s a cardboard box, with a coat of dust I brought it from your attic with your other stuff
And on the side, it says “photographs and memories” in black And I’ve tried, to avoid it but I want you back
This was Cedar Point, maybe ‘83 I got queasy on the coaster so you sat with me And the kids all laughed, but I didn’t care They were flashes in the pan, but you were always there
Even when, I got older and I thought I was cool, but I was cruel I still loved you and you somehow knew
Graduation day, I was moving on We’re posing on the corner of the high school lawn You were smiling wide, but I now can see You were torn up at the thought of slowly losing me
And now I know, you were also slowly losing yourself But you held, all the pieces tied together so well
In the Florida sun, on the crowded coast The picture is so faded that we look like ghosts You were made of sand, in a castle skin There was beauty for a moment till the tide rolled in
But I still taste, the faintest touch of salt in the air, we’re still there You’re the summer breeze that ruffles my hair In the box beneath the stairs In the box beneath the stairsJosh Woodward: Little Miss Lovely Eyes (New Album Coming!)Josh Woodward2021-11-05 | Coming December 1st, my next album: Sandcastles! Little Miss Lovely Eyes Blue as the perfect skies of summer Oh, the fleeting haze of August Clutch it tight inside my pocket All those days just slip away so fast
Little Miss Lovely Eyes Oh, how the time just flies around us They all say this time won’t last But it seems like a minute passed Now here you are, my sweet and charming girl
I would trade My gold away For one more day Of you and I beneath the summer sky
Little Miss Lovely Eyes Remember when you were five, and I said Don’t you ever lose that spark That lights the way when things are dark And you’re still burning brighter than the sun
Little Miss Lovely Eyes Up in a castle high above me I used to read you fairy tales The princess safe, the knight prevailed But now I see that it was me you saved
I would trade My gold away For one more day Of you and I beneath the summer sky
Gravity Draining the sands in the hourglass Clearing space so the light can pass, right through
And all I need Is to turn it over and watch it fall back And watch the memories settle all back down
But there’s no way to flip it over Or make it stop, or make it slower It trickles even when we fall asleep
But while there’s sand that’s left to fall Let’s hit the beach and take it all in nowJosh Woodward: Nice White Liberals (Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2021-02-16 | I live in a nice middle-class neighborhood in Ann Arbor, one of the most liberal towns in America. It's an amazing place, with big city amenities and a small-town feel. My neighborhood is also entirely white. Which makes sense, because Washtenaw County is the 8th most economically segregated metro area in the entire country, and after centuries of systemic racism, many in the BIPOC population simply can't afford to live here.
My neighbors are Nice White Liberals. There's a sea of yard signs dotting the landscape, talking about how immigrants are welcome here, Black Lives Matter, and that kindness is everything. I believe most of them sincerely mean that. But then, those same neighbors loudly oppose new housing developments or zoning changes to allow for denser housing. They often frame it as wanting to "preserve the neighborhood character" or to "keep our small-town feel". It's all very understandable, I like my neighborhood and the small-town feel as well.
The problem is, a *lot* of people want to live here, and we've spent decades resisting new housing. This has driven prices into the stratosphere, and anyone who can't afford it has a long commute on clogged highways or slow buses. Many other cities are facing the same issues, some to an insane extent like the San Francisco Bay Area where I used to live, with blue-collar workers often forced to commute for hours each day.
Increased density would ease so many of these problems, but expanding single-family zoning to allow for small apartment buildings doesn't play well with many Nice White Liberals, nor does subsidized housing, unless it's in somebody else's backyard. Most of them aren't actively racists, but this mindset serves to perpetuate the systemic racism inherent in the status quo.
It's not enough to not be racist - we need to strive to be anti-racist. We need to move past performative yard signs and to start demanding action, neighborhood character be damned.

"In This House We Believe" Says the yard sign tucked beneath the cherry tree And the white picket fence In a cul-de-sac where children play with friends
All, the nice white liberals Taking walks on the nice white liberal street
Harry smiles, and a says to Jane, "I don't see color, everyone's the same" While Jose, is mowing his grass He commuted for an hour to earn his scraps
All the nice white liberals Taking walks on the nice white liberal street They say intentions paved the road to hell But I can say we all mean well Cause I'm a nice white liberal myself
Shane and Brooke, went by on the path She's got a Black Lives Matter emblem on her mask She says, "I feel their pain, with all my heart, Yeah, the poor need homes, just not in my backyard"

A tiny spark Ignites a forest fire And soon it's soaring higher Engulfing me in flames
I pull it close To harness all the passion A desperate plea to cash in Before I burn away
And then one day A breath of hesitation Became a great contagion That burrowed in my bones
As I grew cold Inertia bound and tied me It slowly paralyzed me And left me here alone
New year, same fears Put the pieces all back together Blank slate, same fate And everything just goes on forever Will seed remain unsown In the fallow earth below I just wanna grow
I was wrong To think that I was stronger Than the looming monster Who built me out of clay
From his hands Arose a shell, ceramic A hard but brittle man Ignited in the flame
And in my shell The scaffolding was held down And all the walls that fell down They buried me beneath
The sharpest bone To pierce the veil alone in A sea of serotonin And not a drop to drink
It's been 15 years since I released a derpy and terrible (and unfortunately, terribly popular) bonus companion album to the relentlessly dark "Crawford Street" called "Sunny Side of the Street", with all the goofy and weird songs I'd made up until that point. And since then, I apparently haven't learned my lesson and continued to occasionally make more goofy and weird songs from time to time.
And so, after "The Shade from Our Trees", it seems like it's time to make another bonus album. :D Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you "Sunny Side of the Trees"! It's 14 tracks (5 never before heard, the rest overhauled) of maximum derpiness. Listen on your favorite streaming platform, or download from my site:

We blasted from Sirius in 2038 The crowds were kinda rowdy but the food was really great Next stop on the tour is the planet I love most The humans all are sexy and they love to watch our shows
We're the Cosmic Bandits We've come to rock your planet If you’re in luck, we might abduct you, too
With skin-tight slacks and Marshall stacks We’re probing 'round the nation So climb aboard the mothership tonight
The PA system's flabby and the monitors are shot The synthesizer's flaky, and the room is super hot But we are on a mission to deliver you the rock A century will pass and you'll still feel the aftershocks
[Chorus]
Tonight we land in Fargo and tomorrow play a mall A county fair in Bismarck, a casino in Sioux Falls We're sampling the finest of your planetary frills So show us what you're made of cause we've got some time to kill

Looking down from twenty thousand feet The fields are spangled specks beneath my seat As the mountains fade, the memories made, they all evaporate Everything is blowing, going, gone, gone away
The grand terrain is turning grey and cold My comfy home is now threadbare and old With a parachute, a quick reboot, can I escape my fate? Everything is blowing, going, gone, gone away Everything is blowing, going, gone, gone away
It’s wheels down in my hometown again And everything is just as it had been In the days before the sandy shore was spread beneath my feet Everything is blowing, going, gone, gone away
My callow heart was once so full of dreams But somehow I got lost in the machine How did I become the very one that I could never take? Everything is blowing, going, gone, gone away
Looking up to see the endless stars The universe no longer seems so large Am I cursed to stay, will I go grey, just wondering what could be? Maybe I am blowing, going, gone, gone away Maybe I am blowing, going, gone...Josh Woodward: The Best Song (VideoSong)Josh Woodward2019-10-24 | 90% of the time when I sit down to write a song, I come up with ideas incredibly quickly, and they all feel like the best song I've ever written. And then they fizzle out just as quickly as they came, because finishing something is a billion times harder than starting it. I have literally thousands of abandoned ideas sitting around.
But ... what if I could just make a song out of these scraps? What if I never had to do the hard work of actually finishing the song?! DO I HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY?!? Why yes, yes I do. *demonic laughter*

I like this riff, and I think I’m gonna write a song with it It’s light and calm and sweet and at the same time upbeat But I can’t think of what to say So, I’ll just write it anyway Now I need a chorus…
This would be perfect, if only the verse fit I don’t know how I’d mash the two together It’s maybe a new tune, called “Once in a Blue Moon” About the chance of finding love But it’s already been done, there must be a million Sad sack stories in the used bin I don’t really want to join them...
This song will be the best song Don’t tell me I’m wrong This song will be the best song Except it’s not So I’m gonna try again
Fingerpicking makes Everything sound great Everything I say sounds deep and sincere Pull my finger and I fart Watch it linger in your heart See, I’m making lovely art, but it also kinda stinks
Who doesn’t adore, a waltz on the floor Followed up with a crumpet and tea Oh right, this is Michigan that I am living in Not London in 1903
C’mon Woodward, get it together C’mon Woodward, time to be clever Don’t stop now, just finish it, whatever it takes
I’m gonna try, try, try, try to grow a seed I’m gonna try, try, try, till my fingers bleed I’m gonna try, try, try, try, try, till I’ve used every chord
I’m gonna try, try, try, till I get it right I’m gonna try, try, try, till the morning light I’m gonna try, try, try, try, try, until I get bored And then I’m gonna finish it laterJosh Woodward: SaboteursJosh Woodward2019-09-05 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/Saboteurs

Burn who I’ve been Wipe the slate, a clean escape again Run like the wind The present’s gone, the past has never been
The firewood is spent The daylight came and went Now I’m just alone inside my head
And barely on the lam The demons I outran Are at the door
My saboteurs are passengers, they follow where I lead I can't escape the trouble, when the trouble’s part of me And I run, as fast as lightning, from the mountains to the shore Still the wolves are clawing at the door
A tap, then a knock Crecendoing and growing ever wilder I stare at the lock The pounding shakes, the plaster breaks apart
A crackle then a spark Then everything goes dark I feel the winds constricting on the walls
The shattered windows fall A voice is in the hall, it calls me in
[Chorus]
Burn who I’ve been Wipe the slate, a clean escape, the end Run like the wind And leave behind my broken mind again
Inside every mind, if you look, you will find There’s a child who never grew old Who sings to the trees, like nobody can see With a fire that never went cold
He looks up to the stars, and the moon, and at Mars And the endless expanse of the sky Devoid of all doubt, just a question of how To climb up to the heavens and fly
But time is advancing A drip, then a flood He’s adrift while you’re stuck on the shore And he sails away to the depths of our brains And we can’t seem to dream anymore
With the passing of days, we get lost in the maze That we built out of habit and fear The longer we run, the more lost we become As the days disappear into years
When we’re sleeping in bed, the child in our heads Is reminding us how to break out But the moment we wake, it just up and escapes And we’re back to the fear and doubt
But the answer’s inside us, it never did leave We just never believed it before
Well, I’m done with the maze for the rest of my days I’m not wasting my dreams anymore No, I’m not wasting my dreams anymoreJosh Woodward: With No Goodbye (New Album Today!)Josh Woodward2019-06-05 | Download the new album: joshwoodward.com

We’re in the same boat Heading for different shores Facing each other Grasping at different oars
We’re cornered in a stalemate But the sun is down, it’s getting late I’ve either gotta turn around Or learn how to swim
We’re in the same boat Heading for different shores Should I take a break Or throw myself overboard?
Do I find another way back home Or take a leap into the great unknown I’ve either gotta turn around Or learn how to swim
We’re in the same boat Heading for different shores I’ve chosen my path And you’ve chosen yours
I look away and dive right in The frigid water stings my skin I’m either gonna fade away Or learn how to swimJosh Woodward: Lets Slash Grandmas Tires (On Election Day) (VideoSong)Josh Woodward2016-10-11 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/LetsSlashGrandmasTires

Let's slash Grandma's tires on election day Let’s make her stay at home so she won’t have a say Sally, take her walker while I hide away her coat Let’s make sure that Grandma doesn’t vote
Let's slash Grandma's tires on election day You’ve heard the things she says about the Jews and gays Around the big Thanksgiving table, I won’t say a single word But now, let’s not let our grandma’s voice be heard
Oh me, oh my Nana makes the sweetest peanut butter pie Oh my, oh me Grandma thinks Obama’s Sudanese
Let's slash Grandma's tires on election day Let’s save our country’s future with a razor blade A woman’s place is in the kitchen, that’s what grandma says So she can stay there while we pick the prez
Let's slash Grandma's tires on election day She’ll drop the bomb on China if she has her way I don’t care if my stocking is a measly lump of coal Let’s not let our grandma near the polls

I never meant to say I love you I never meant to lead you on But sometimes pride can get the best of me And drag the rest of me along
We leave behind the stains of battle We count the dead and grieve the loss A civil war without a victor I never really cared about the loss
If there’s a town beyond the sky Where they greet you by and by I will stay down here and hide No, I will never meet you in the light
I found the door that leads to nothing I crossed the threshold once or twice But there was nothing in the nothingness Not just the absence of light
There was a whisper in the shadows There was writing on the wall And soon the curtains had been drawn apart I braced my body for the fall
If there’s a town beyond the sky Where they greet you by and by I will stay down here and hide No, I will never meet you in the light
Please forgive me if I’m broken It wasn’t you who lit the spark I’ve glued the pieces back together As many times as I’ve fallen apart
If there’s a town beyond the sunrise I hope they let you through the door But me, I’m walking down the darker road At least I know what lies in storeJosh Woodward: Vegan Zombies (VideoSong)Josh Woodward2016-06-21 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/VeganZombies

Vegan zombies like cauliflower Because it looks like brains They can munch on it for hours It never feels no pain
And though they never would complain They know it doesn’t taste the same As a lightly salted, juicy human brain
Temptation leads us all astray The best can fall and lose their way Even vegan zombies make mistakes
Vegan zombies like cauliflower Morning, noon, and night Always sweet, and never sour It won’t put up a fight
But sometimes in the summer heat They crave the taste of human meat And heaven knows we all deserve a treat
They head on down to Kerrytown Where the farmer’s market can be found And organic, free-range humans do aboundJosh Woodward: The Nest (VideoSong)Josh Woodward2016-05-31 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/TheNest

The broken wing, it didn’t last a spring You shoved me out, before the nest was cold I couldn't fly, but god I tried I hit the ground, and I was on my own
Alone in the big blue land With only my legs to stand And no one to lend a hand, or to pick me up
I see the sky, where you would fly And I would wait for you so patiently But I was weak, and soon I had an empty beak I guess I wasn't worth the time
And I never had the chance To float in a weightless dance To swim in the great expanse above me
The gravity holds me down I’ll never escape the ground To live in the careless clouds where I belongJosh Woodward: Show Me (Official Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2016-05-17 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/ShowMe

Your body's in a chair across from me But your mind is in the sky above the trees Just floating, so lonely
You tell me that you love me truthfully But empty words have got no use to me So show me, just show me
Well, your shirt is all stained from the heart on your sleeve You talk a good game, and I want to believe But if you really want to prove your love, then just show me
Am I just a bad habit, that you can’t break Are you scared to face down that big mistake That you blew it, and you knew it
Am I the dashing young prince in your fairy tale Or was it just another slice of slightly stale bologna Come on, show me, yeah
Well, your shirt is all stained from the heart on your sleeve You talk a good game, and I want to believe But if you really want to prove your love, then just show me
Do you remember when we met We were such a flaming wreck The fire never died, when our bodies would collide in the night And still I smell the smoke In the words that leave your throatBuried deep inside Is the fire still alive? I don't want to hear your reply Just show me
Well, your shirt is all stained from the heart on your sleeve You talk a good game, and I want to believe But if you really want to prove your love, then just show me

(Josh) The day that we met I'll never forget I knew from the moment she spoke The she, was destined to be My favorite regret
And all through the years The joy and the tears We shared like as greatest of friends But she, was destined to be My favorite regret
Well, each moment we've spent I've been almost content Just to talk to her all through the night
But a part of me mourns What will never be born She's forever my favorite regret
(Katie) He's gentle and kind And totally blind To not see the life we could lead And he, is destined to be My favorite regret
In bad times and good I've steadfastly stood My passion just waits to be freed But he, is destined to be My favorite regret
(Josh & Katie) Well, I've got more to give But I'm happy to live In the shadow, of what could’ve been
But a part of me yearns Like an ember, it burns Forever, my favorite regret
One day, when the stars fade Will the echoes of my love Arrive to you above And wake you up at last
I'll take what I've got Put the rest in a box Addressed to the stars in the sky And soon, up there with the moon My favorite regret Forever my favorite regretJosh Woodward: My Christmas ListJosh Woodward2015-12-08 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/MyChristmasList

Be kind to one another, and don't give in to fear That's all that I am asking for, for Christmastime this year We’ve had enough of fighting, and dying in the streets For Christmas, I just want a little peace
Be blind to one another, the differences are small We all have got a cross to bear, we all have got our faults For once when we’re affronted, can we turn the other cheek? For Christmas, I just want a little peace
And if the fates should bless us with a moment of reprieve We all could stand together, in the silence, and just breathe Rejoice for all the happiness, mourn for all the grief That’s all that I am asking for, this lonely Christmas eve
Let’s shine on one another, the light that we have saved So jealously we’ve guarded for the coming rainy days If only for a moment, we can make the darkness cease For Christmas, I just want a little peace For Christmas, I just want a little peaceJosh Woodward: Roll Away the Stone (Official Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2015-11-17 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/RollAwayTheStone

The rotten fruit, from poisoned root, was on your plate And slowly you ate it And now you hide, awake inside your self-made tomb A chemical womb
When every castle in the sky, has crumbled into dust Who will roll away the stone for us?
I tried to shout the stupor out with all my might 'Cause you were a fighter But every word you may have heard just vaporized And flew to the sky
When all the light and grace has gone and vanished in the dusk Who will roll away the stone for us?
Who will roll away the stone for us? Who will care when we have turned to dust? Who will roll away the stone for us?Josh Woodward: I Just Wanted to Dance (VideoSong)Josh Woodward2015-10-13 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/IJustWantedToDance

You're standing there like a statue So I decided to ask you "Do you wanna dance?" And then you took my hand And you swung me around the grand old ballroom You said "it's nice to meet you, now let's get married!" I can see you like to boogie down But if you're looking for a wedding gown, I'm not your suitor I just wanted to dance
I'm ready, willing, and able To dance you under the table But I don't want to be stuck in a minivan With a 401(k) plan and picket fences out in the lawn In deep suburbia You sure know how to cut a rug But if you're looking for a cuddlebug, I'm not quite ready I just wanted to dance
Well all my friends have got big degrees They're driving 'round in SUVs But that's not the kind of life for me right now
Someday I might find a career Get a car with second gear Until then, I just wanna be clear with you
Well, I'm sorry that I digressed You look lovely in that dress So let's go out and shake our butts like no one's watching
Here's my number if you wanna chat You can keep it or, give it back, it makes no difference 'Cause I just wanted to danceJosh Woodward: 30 Piano PreludesJosh Woodward2015-09-17 | Here's something a little different! I challenged myself to write a bunch of relaxing piano pieces, with the rule that they all had to be less than a minute. This is the result.

On a streetcar in Tacoma, on a Sunday in July You’re kicking off your sandals, as you stare up at the sky I look at you and fumble, for the perfect thing to say But my nerves get in the way
I've cherished you for ages, but my words were locked in cages So afraid that you just saw me as a friend Now I want to set them free, my fingers clenching to the key But I am frozen once again
Oh the mystery I'm so afraid of what could be If a door is closed, should I suppose it's locked? Or should I suck it up and knock?
You look at me with patient eyes, and flash a little smile My heart is jumping from my chest, and filling up the aisle I've done the calculations, and I've studied all the signs And I've read between the lines
But what if I'm mistaken, what if all of that was taken Out of context, and I blow it all apart Would I baffle and confuse you, would I break it all and lose you At the end before we ever got to start?
[Chorus]
So many summers, in a time so long ago We were kids and nothing mattered in the sunshine on the coast I never would have planned it, but the feeling still expanded into more Than just a friend that I adore
Oh, the mystery So afraid of what could be If a door is closed, should I suppose it's locked? Or should I suck it up and knock So afraid that you will walk But for my conscience's sake, I have to take a shot I'm gonna suck it up and…Josh Woodward: Do Not Go Gentle (Official Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2015-07-14 | For Talcott

Inspired by the Dylan Thomas poem, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night".
The setting sun, hanging low on the horizon My heart is numb, as I watch you slip away You close your eyes, as if the light is growing brighter And a peaceful gaze consumes your tired face
Do not go gentle, no my love The angels don't need you above Rage against the dying of the light
So many lands, still remain to be discovered So many plans, still are hanging in the air And there is still, so much I need to learn about you And the daffodils on silent hills, will never tell me what I want to know
[Chorus]
I never learned, how to be myself without you When I turn, to face the mirror, I see you You’re not just half, ‘cause you can’t separate the whole No long division’s sharp incision, could ever extricate you from my soul
[Chorus]
For everything, there is a time, and there’s a season But deep within, there never seems to be a reason When the time comes, I’ll stand beside you in silence But until that day, don’t go away, it’s not your turn to leave me here alone

A thousand candles flicker in a thousand window sills A sea of empty hearts without a drop of love to fill The root of all the heartache's where the seeds of life will grow So come, my friends, it's time that you arose
Your voices may be silent, but we hear you all the same Your words are in the sunlight and the tapping of the rain It waters all the seeds asleep within the ground below So come, my friends, it's time that you arose
We will be free We'll be released As the echoes of your voices fill the air
We won’t give up We won’t surrender Though your voice is gone, your words we will remember
The lessons of the past can lead the future on its way But we keep getting lost in the distractions of the day Now history’s repeating, and the cycle we must break So come, my friends, it's time that you awake
[Chorus]
The driving winds of autumn blow the leaves into the dust The newly naked forest shouts and shivers at the gusts The branches of the tree of life will bend, but never break So come, my friends, it's time that you awake

The Beagle down the street He’s never on a leash And every car that passes by, he chases like a freak I was puzzled so I asked him what he’d do one day If he caught himself a big old Chevrolet
And he said, ooooh I don’t have a clue But how many of us ever really do? There is not a glowing sign that I am heading toward I’m not aimless, I’m just not sure what I am aiming for
My stupid little cat Thinks her tail is a rat She chases it in circles, till she sputters out of gas I told her it’s impossible to catch that tail That no matter what she does, she’ll always fail
And she said, ooooh I don’t have a clue Maybe what you’re telling me is true But how am I supposed to know, if I don’t explore I’m not aimless, I’m just not sure what I am aiming for
But me, I know my way I wake up every day I start to walk, and from my path, I never really stray I’ll get to where I’m going when I figure out Why the map is always changing when I start to find the route
And I said, ooooh I don’t have a clue But how many of us ever really do? There is not a glowing sign that I am heading toward I’m not aimless, I’m just not sure what I am aiming for What am I aiming for?Josh Woodward: The Rival Within (Official Video)Josh Woodward2015-04-07 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/TheRivalWithin

I spilled out my heart For you to consume And there in the dark The denial, it loomed You stared at the floor, and tried to ignore
You couldn't believe A word that I spoke The truth can deceive In the absence of hope The fate that you fear You pull it so near
Well if you could see What is hiding beneath This invisible mask on your skin
Then maybe one day You could wake up and say Goodbye to the rival within
The girl in the mirror A stranger these days Reflecting your fears Distorting your face Alone in the dark, the beauty departs
You won't take a chance For fear of defeat For every advance A thousand retreats The sheep lost her flock So she runs to the fox

Too many valleys, not enough mountains Too many drains, and not enough fountains Cynicism's dark abysm swallows all the light that passes by
I will choose the path of lightness Even when I’m blinded, sightless Cuz I’d rather be adrift at sea, than the safety of a jail with no key
Too many words, and not enough feeling Too many lost balloons on the ceiling If they had their way, they’d float away But now they’re stuck up there till they run out of air
And I will choose the path of flying Even when it’s terrifying When your head is high up in the sky They'll try to clip your wings so you can’t fly
It’s easy to be helpless, you’ll never fall with two feet on the ground If you don’t wish for anything, when you get nothing, you won’t feel let down But I will choose to bear abuse and risk to lose it all Cuz I want to feel alive

Your sweet refrain, the music rained upon me like a storm You rose from out of the darkness like a phantom being born
Your face so young, and a honeyed tongue, I never stood a chance Before the sun had set you had me locked up in your trance
And ooh You got me hypnotized, I am drowning in your eyes And ooh I would crash against the rocks and steal the seconds from the clocks to be with you
Your siren song, one note, I’m gone, and never to return I’ve been caught up in your fire, so I guess that I’ll just burn
I can’t think straight, my brain’s sedated by your splendid drug If you’re the train, then I’m the tracks, and I’m happy to be stuck
[Chorus]
And if the world crashed in the sun There is not another thing that I’d have done Cuz of everything else, you’re the only one that mattered
When the final page is written and they close the book And everyone regrets the path they took I’ll just sit right back and close my eyesJosh Woodward: Bloom (Official Video)Josh Woodward2015-02-24 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/Bloom

In the field of shadows Where flowers stand like trees By the cover of a willow He got down on his knees
He buried all his hopes and dreams There beside a quiet stream And waited for the summer, to make 'em bloom
With a shovel in his sore hands He dug a hole so deep He took his dream plants And set 'em down to sleep
The secret thoughts, yeah they all went down Buried in the stony ground And waited for the summer, to make 'em bloom
Maybe hope is shallow 'Cuz nothing ever grew The ground laid fallow Only dirt beneath his shoes
Some dreams, are just meant to stay Alone inside, a padlocked cage The seed, that's dead and broken, will never bloom The seed, that's dead and broken, will never bloomJosh Woodward: After the Flames (Lyric Video)Josh Woodward2015-02-10 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/AfterTheFlames

The splendor of youth Of undying truth The poisonous pill, we consume
The promise of fate We find out too late Was only a lie, we create
You flew On past the edge of the sky Cuz you knew That only the living can die Amaranthine, you fly
The weight of your chains The pull on your reins It buckles and strains, till you break
But you found the key Beneath the debris To free and release, the weight
You flew On past the edge of the sky Cuz you knew That only the living can die Amaranthine, you fly

Sleep well my dear Tonight in our bed With nothing behind us, and nothing ahead
Our tired bones Are covered so tight So sleep well my darling, goodnight
Sleep well, my dear As dreams fill your mind And leave all your troubles and fears behind
Your worries now Are far out of sight So sleep well my darling, goodnight
Sleep well, my dear In quiet and peace With only the sound of the wind in the trees
And the whisper of, the fall of the tide So sleep well my darling, goodnight Sleep well my darling, goodnightJosh Woodward: With a Whimper (Official Video)Josh Woodward2014-12-30 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/WithAWhimper

Unaware that something was in the air Floating around us and slowly surrounding us whole
Was it a second, a day or a year When you began to disappear Do you remember the moment You started to know it was done
With a whimper, not a bang Not a lion, but a lamb We just withered and died, like a lily outside in the cold And through Rome wasn't built in a day It longer still to decay Slowly but surely, your brain it just blurred me away
The chains were strained, and slowly your passion waned We once talked all night, now we don’t even fight anymore
At first I thought you needed space But I was already being erased The sole resolution, a foregone conclusion, it’s done
[Chorus]
Aim your soul, follow where you must go And I'll follow mine through the tangle of vines in the night
So this is the way that it ends A half-hearted promise to always be friends A glance at the floor, then you walk out the door to your life

Was I drawn into your orbit Or were you drawn into mine In any case, you've given me A new reason to shine
The circles we're revolving Spinning recklessly around And growing tighter by the moment Till the flash and then the sound
And for a moment, two are one Glowing with the brilliance Of a multiplying sun But even stars will one day fall And I won’t shed a tear Cause for a time, we had it all
In a darker time, I floated Like lantern in the sky Alone until the moment That I saw you flying by
I don't know where you came from Or the way the wind will blow I only know I’ll follow you No matter where you go
And when the candles start to fade Slowly, we’ll descend But I will never be afraid And even as we start to fall I won’t shed a tear Cause for a time, we had it all
When I met you at the bus stop I was waiting for a ride Instead I found a future When you sat by me inside
All the roads that we have traveled Through the land and in our lives Returning like a spiral As the dimming sun arrives
And when the stars were all aligned You pulled you in your orbit as I pulled you into mine And when the time has come to fall I won’t shed a tear Cause for a time, we had it all For a time, we had it allJosh Woodward: Bombs Away (Official Video)Josh Woodward2014-11-25 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/BombsAway

We don't intend to hurt you, yeah, but freedom is a virtue In the name of all that’s righteous, we’ll give you all this liberty and peace We’ll liberate your streets
If you haven't heard the holy word We'll teach you when the ash and dirt Have settled on your heathen church tonight
If truth won't come from the barrel of a gun Then we're bringing out the heavy stuff alright
Bombs away, bombs away Bombs away, bombs away Brighter days are on the way So shout hooray For bombs away
Your creator is a traitor, yeah, we’re sorry ‘bout the crater But it’s all for what is good and right To drop the bombs and let your streets ignite So you can see the light
When you awake and see your fate You'll clap your hands and jubilate You're free at last, the great days are ahead
Truth arrives from from a bomber in the skies Yeah, we're bringing out the heavy stuff tonight

Everything, everything, everything I touch will break And everyday, everyday, everyday you give and I take I'm living the best that I can But fate never followed my plans I’m holding you back, so I want you to pack up and grow
Everything, everything, everything you've done is great But your back has been feeling exhausted from all of the weight I'll carry this burden myself Just put me up high on the shelf Think of me fondly, but please move beyond me and go
There's so much that you want to do The world is just waiting for you But I'm holding you down From the dreams that you found In a life that you left when we met So please just escape Before my resolve goes away And I ask you to stayJosh Woodward: Words Fall ApartJosh Woodward2014-10-14 | Lyrics, MP3 and other goodies here: http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/WordsFallApart

We’re here at the start, where the words fall apart Where language is lost in the wind The syllables sway, in an ancient ballet The meaningless sounds that we sing
Sleep, baby, sleep, baby Sleep till the feeling is gone Sleep, baby, sleep, baby Everything’s new in the dawn
The faces and sounds, where the truth goes to drown In the deepest expanse of the sea Our dreams and our hopes are concealed in codes And no one would dare hold the key
