Touhou 16 - Hidden Star in Four Seasons - Perfect Stage 4 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-01-18 | HSiFS stage 4 on lunatic, without dying, bombing, or releases, using Marisa Autumn.It's been a while, ~4.5 years since the last stage perfect I did. Lots has happened since then, including the release of a few more games in the series. This stage isn't too bad. The stage portion is trivial except for the spam at the end. One you learn the strategy for it, it mostly comes down to how far ahead of you the yellow fairies shoot. Meanwhile, Narumi isn't too much trouble, though she isn't exactly a pushover either. Her final can be difficult, but it's reasonably safe at the top of the screen as long as you watch for shots coming from off screen. It's very useful when you can't spot a path through the bullets from the bottom quickly enough. Overall, felt like a good choice for the first perfect stage I've done in a while. Maybe I'll clear the game soon (haven't even done it with continues yet). Also, my game consistently crashes at the end of this replay, so that's interesting.

This was by far the easiest, partly because I've practiced these stages so much by this point and partly because Border Team is the easiest team to use. There wasn't a single stage in the run where my chance of NNFS was below 50%. This took 2 full runs to get.With Border Team, there's basically no truly difficult attacks. Hourai Elixir is usually hard, but Border Team's small hitbox works wonders and makes the attack significantly easier. I'd probably say the hardest thing here is Eirin's 3rd nonspell, which is where the only 1 miss run I got died. Scariest parts of this run were the last 2 attacks. On Astronomical Entombing, Eirin moved poorly and meant she wasn't as close to the wall as she should've been, meaning the bubbles were hitting more familiars and spawning more bullets than normal. Then Hourai Elixir gave me bad RNG and in the final phase I had more light bullets on collision course than I normally would. Border Team's smallbox probably saved me there.Anyway, that's it. All 8 teams LNNFSes. I'm not sure what to do next. Solos don't interest me since whether you're human or youkai, some part of the run becomes disgusting. I've also ruled out most other LNNs and I'm not interested in scoring. I do want to stick with shmups, but depending on how things go it might not be Touhou.

Put differently, I did 4 Ghost Team LNBs and 2 of them were LNNFS. Not what I was expecting at all...Ghost Team is basically a standard inverted shot type, i.e. a narrow, strong unfocus shot and a wide, weak focus shot. In any other game, it would be really good because Youmu's damage is very high and her familiar and Yuyuko have good spread. But in IN, during boss fights, familiars will often block Youmu's shots and reduce her damage, especially in the late game where familiars are often tanky. BD ends up being the hardest attack in the run for that reason; it's more difficult than both Blink and RW. It's got a solid wall of near unkillable familiars which completely halve Youmu's damage. Shift-tapping helps a little but not much. S6B is an incredibly dangerous stage for this reason, and was why I was expecting this run to take longer. Fortunately I got good enough RNG on Kaguya on this run.Outside of BD, most of Marisa, Eirin's 2nd spell and 3rd non and Kaguya's 3rd non all have tanky familiars that mean even Yukari outdamages Youmu. It basically nullifies Ghost Team's advantage of fighting Marisa instead of Reimu and makes them an ineffective team for LNNFS, I'd say they're only marginally better than Scarlet Team.

It was the first day of full runs and the first run past Double Spark. Overall it was a pretty lucky run in that the threatening stuff gave me good RNG and everything went cleanly. I was actually surprised at how fast I got this, since in practice I was struggling with Eirin. Game of Rising and the 3rd nonspell kept giving me trouble. They're both critroll attacks where they're fine unless you get bad RNG. On Game of Rising, if the bullets cluster up in certain ways it becomes very difficult to get around them. Meanwhile on the 3rd nonspell, you aren't guaranteed to get a clear path through the bubbles so you often need to do some sketchy blind micros since your character and hitbox are displayed under bullets. This wasn't a problem for Magic and Scarlet Teams since they kill those attacks in 2 waves, but because of the familiars and because it's hard to stay under Eirin, Youmu has trouble damaging them and they drag on for much longer. Both of them went smoothly here though and I didn't have to do any funky dodges on either of them.

Final B is harder than Final A and while the teams are well-balanced, Scarlet Team is the worst for NNFS, though not by much. Fortunately I got this run about as quickly as I'd expected. The run itself is unexceptional, aside from a very near miss at 13:07. I stopped briefly as I went up to PoC which meant I was too slow coming down. I actually stopped and paused at that moment since I thought I was dead, but I lucked out and narrowly avoided dying.Overall I found Scarlet Team to be reasonably effective. Remilia is the best youkai, her shot is one of the strongest in the game and being able to lock her options in place means she still deals damage even if you can't stay under a boss. That helps a lot on Reimu and Kaguya. However Sakuya is the worst human, boasting poor damage and mediocre spread. She makes stage portions and boss attacks where you want to kill familiars harder and more annoying than they should be. If youkai could hit familiars, solo Remilia would probably be better than Scarlet Team.Getting this run means that unless I use solo characters, I'm done with Reimu and will now be fighting Marisa. A while ago I wanted to get all teams NNFSes by the end of the year. There's 3 left and a little over half a month to do them, which I don't think is long enough. However, maybe it's still possible since Marisa is so much easier to NNFS than Reimu?

Part of that was motivation, since I'm not that fond of Scarlet Team, and part of it was just struggling to get the run. This took 9 runs on pace into S6A, while in stage practice my chance of getting an S6A NNFS was ~1/5. This particular run was a bit messy. I made a couple of mistakes during stage portions but bosses were largely fine, besides 1 sketchy dodge on Blink.So far I've found Scarlet Team to be worse than Magic Team everywhere except on Reimu. Most of that is just the lower damage compared to Malice Cannon, but a significant part of it is because of Sakuya. Her mediocre range and poor damage make stages harder than they should be and she's not great against familiars. Remilia is fantastic though, her damage is very high and the spread her detached options give her is quite useful, especially on attacks like DBR and Blink where you can't stay under the boss. The only problem I found with her is that her movement speed is a bit uncomfortable on HE. It's easy to overshoot and run into a bullet because of the small gaps on the last phase.Hopefully Final B won't take as long as this did.

I got it on the first run that made it past S4 on pace. For reference, I'd estimate my odds of getting S5 and S6A NNFS in a given run was 1/5. In comparison, my odds of getting S5 and S6B NNFS in a given run is about 1/6, so not much worse. In reality, it took 15 runs past S4 on pace, 12 made it to S6B and 6 of those only had 1 mistake. Kaguya was mean to me :(S6B isn't that bad with Magic Team. BD is a big threat for other teams, but Malice Cannon destroys it just after the stars reach you. BDB and RW are the other major threats. In this particular run though, non 3 was the closest I got to dying. I'm supposed to follow Kaguya and speedkill it by the end of the first wave, but because on the first wave, both sides converged on me, I panicked and dashed right. One of my 1 miss runs got this exact same situation: I got pushed into a corner, got trapped as the 1st and 2nd waves overlapped and died. I got lucky and survived this time. Other close calls were on LSI, where I got very close to Kaguya on a wave, and RW, but that one is always a bit sketchy.This also wraps up Magic Team. Overall I'd describe them as a glass cannon. The damage is insane in the right circumstances, and still very good elsewhere. But Magic Team struggles more than any other team when things go wrong. If you don't kill an enemy you'd normally kill, or a boss attack doesn't end when you expect it to, Magic Team's lack of spread makes it hard to recover. Not only that, but you're likely to focus more when in danger, rather than Malice Cannoning, which reduces damage and spread even further. One of my 1 miss runs died to Kaguya non 1. I normally speedkill it, but this time I did ~90% of her health in 10 seconds, survived another 10 seconds without damaging her, then got walled and died. Any other team would've killed it before then. And that's the glass part; Magic Team is very vulnerable when something goes wrong.Scarlet Team next.

There's something special about IN that I really enjoy. When I did my SA and TD LNN(N)s, I didn't fully enjoy those games. I just enjoyed them enough to go for the LNN(N). However, as I did attempts I found that my dislike of those 2 grew to the point that once I finally got the successful run, I didn't want to play them anymore. That's not the case for this run, and it wasn't the case for the Border Team LNNFS I did 6 years ago. After those, I wanted more. However, objectively, I don't think IN survival is that good. S1-3 and S5 are too easy. But it's still my favourite, and I can't explain why. I'm probably going to do at least all the teams LNNFSs, and maybe some solos after if I'm still interested.Difficulty wise, IN is usually placed on the harder side of the middle tier of games. Based on this run though, I don't think it's actually that difficult. As mentioned previously, S1-3 and S5 are all very easy, so almost all of the difficulty comes from S4 and S6. S4A is the hardest stage in this run, and I found it more than twice as hard as S6A. Reimu has a lot of RNG based attacks that can do funky things and kill you quite easily. The big killers for me were the 2nd non and 2nd spell (both RNG vomit), DBR and Blink. Blink is the hardest attack in the run. Notably, this was the first run on LNNFS pace out of S4.S6A is fairly easy as Magic Team. Malice Cannon helps quite a lot, especially on the midboss and final. The main challenges here are 2nd spell and HE's final phase. Apollo is another hard one, but only until you properly learn and route it. After that it shouldn't be an issue.I got this run very quickly, which is another reason why I don't think it's particularly challenging. I think I started less than 15 runs and this was only the 5th clear. And I only spent 50 hours over the course of 2 weeks on it, in contrast to the 100+ hours spread over months for all my other LNNs. I've definitely gotten more skilled over time though, so maybe that's distorting my judgement.Bring on the next one.
Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object - Perfect Stage 4 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-09-28 | UFO stage 4 on lunatic, without dying, bombing or summoning UFOs, using MarisaB.Roughly mid-tier in terms of difficulty compared to other stage 4s. There aren't many difficult sections and they aren't that challenging, but I found it really easy to trip up somewhere and die unexpectedly. That's especially true on the stage portion. The only hard stage section is the spam near the end of the stage. However, the big fairies that spawn the pink bullets are very inconsistent and can kill you quite easily. If you let them shoot on both sides, they can sometimes wall you. You want to spawnkill one side of them, but as MarisaB that requires high power and moving upwards which isn't always viable.Murasa is an alright boss, but she has weird pacing. Vortex, 3rd non and Ghost Ship are the only attacks which are even remotely challenging. I messed up the timing of the Vortex kill and had some bullets bleed into the non afterwards. You want to kill it ~1 second after a wave starts. The worst time to kill it seems to be right when a wave starts (which is what I did here). The non is static, but at least as Marisa it feels quite tight and it's easy to trip up. Ghost Ship isn't too bad, but the droplets will rarely get very close or just spawn into you which is a bit unfair. Murasa's movement can also drag it out like she did here.
Touhou 17 - Wily Beast and Weakest Creature - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-08-30 | WBaWC stage 5 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using MarisaWolf.Very easy stage, and borderline boring. The stage portion is really slow-paced and has 2 long, trivial tap streaming sections. There's absolutely nothing interesting in it.Much like stage 4, all the boss attacks can be routed. And again, the hardest parts are the nonspells. The 3rd nonspell is the hardest, I'd say that's because it isn't as "structured" as the other nonpspells, which all offer clear, intentional gaps. That also means it's affected more by Mayumi's slow, random movements as she shoots.
Touhou 17 - Wily Beast and Weakest Creature - Perfect Stage 4 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-08-30 | WBaWC stage 4 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using MarisaWolf.Pretty easy stage and reasonably enjoyable. Nothing really happens in the stage portion until you reach the pre-midboss wisps. I was originally considering using MarisaEagle to make that section easier, but with MarisaWolf it's still very manageable if you sweep across the screen while focused.After that, the hardest parts are the nonspells. All the boss attacks can be routed, but the nonspells are a bit tight. The midboss nonspell is particularly tricky due to its speed. There's nothing super difficult here though.

SA sits around the middle in terms of difficulty. In a typical LNN (i.e. using ReimuA), that difficulty comes from 4 attacks: DBDB, Cat's Walk, UNR and Peta. You might also include FIN to make it 5 attacks. However, by using a shot type with spread (ReimuC, MarisaA, MarisaB), you avoid the first 2 (or 3 with FIN) of those. MarisaA is the best choice since she's the only shot type with both a high damage forward shot and a spread shot. Her Satori fight is also mid-tier; Kyoto Dolls can be awful if Satori moves low, but is otherwise fine and Straw Dolls is free. However, I found Return Inanimateness is halfway between UNR and Peta in terms of difficulty but that's still easier than stuff like DBDB or Princess Undine. So for MarisaA, the main threats were Return Inanimateness, UNR and Peta. Outside of those, there isn't much danger. A lot of patterns, especially late game, are completely free, even when compared to an easy game like TD. Orin is free outside of 3rd non and Ghost Wheels. Utsuho is very easy outside of UNR, Peta and Sub Sun. That lumpy difficulty is partly why I'm not that fond of the game. The only stage I think is actually good is S4. Yamame is atrocious, S5 is mediocre and everything else I haven't mentioned is merely ok. Not good or great, just ok. When I was starting to practice the game, I had doubts over whether I liked it enough to go for LNN, but in the end I decided to go for it. I spent a lot of time either frustrated or bored and only kept going because by that point, I already had a 1 miss run and thought I was close enough that I may as well finish it. It's over now, but I think if I'm in the same position with another game, I'd decide against going for it instead. I should be playing things for fun rather than arbitrary achievements.Anyway, this one took ~136 hours over the course of 2-3 months. Coincidentally, it's also happened on SA's 12th birthday. I guess this is one way to celebrate it 🥳
Touhou 15 - Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-07-07 | LoLK stage 5 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using Sanae.A fairly difficult stage, one of the harder stage 5s in the series, but part of that difficulty is for a bad reason. Clownpiece is a mostly enjoyable fight, but the stage portion made this the most frustrating stage perfect I've ever done. With a homing shot, the stage portion is long and trivial, i.e. mind-numbingly boring, aside from a couple of chapters. Chapters 1, 2, 5 and 7 consist entirely of weak fairies from both sides of the screen, which the homing shots almost trivialise. The occasional fairy slips through and can shoot, but that is rarely an issue. You're idle a lot of the time. Chapter 3 is the same but with a few big laser fairies that make things slightly more interesting, but not by much. Chapter 4 is brain dead tap streaming (or literally 2 taps as Sanae). Chapter 6 is the hardest chapter in the stage portion, but in a somewhat unfair way. The gaps in the lasers are small and leave you with little room to dodge. Bad RNG on the stars can make this impossible; in one case I got walled by a whole 2 stars. They moved vertically and formed a horizontal line that trapped me between the lasers on the first fairy. Some stars also have stop-start movement where they change their angle and speed suddenly, which can happen around the height that the lasers spawn from. And obviously, a bullet suddenly changing paths slightly in front of you isn't particularly fair. Neither of these things cause problems in most runs though, generally I'll get some spooky but manageable dodging, like in this run.Chapter 8 would probably be interesting as any other character, but as Sanae it's static and becomes this really simple and boring route.Chapter 9 is streaming. There's a lot of random little stars around though, which make things fairly difficult. I got mediocre RNG here and had more stars than usual after doing the restream; it usually isn't this bad.Overall, I'd say the only interesting chapters in this stage are 6 and 9. The rest are really dull. It's also one of the longest main game stage portions in the series. As a result, it was a slow and tedious grind to get runs to Clownpiece, and it was incredibly frustrating to die along the way.In contrast, Clownpiece is a decent boss. Most of her difficulty lies in her first 2 nons, which involve dodging fairly fast stars in a narrow gap between lasers. They're a little annoying though, because they're affected by Clownpiece's height, especially the 2nd non. You get less time to react when she's low, but on the 2nd non the stars are faster (even less time to react) and the laser gap gets smaller since the lasers are angled. I got godly RNG on this run since Clownpiece stayed high for the entire non. The rest of the fight isn't too challenging, although the 2nd and 3rd spells can be problematic (the latter only because Sanae can't speedkill it; it's free for some other characters).Most of the frustration with this stage came from the 4 minute grind just to get 1 attempt at those challenging nons. I had 3 perfect Clownpiece fights before I got this run. Skipping to Clownpiece was far more enjoyable since if I died, there was less time invested in the run and after restarting I'd immediately be on an interesting attack. And that's why I'd say part of the difficulty is for a bad reason. Having to do the stage portion each attempt adds a lot of time and essentially felt like padding. Using a non-homing shot might've made things more interesting but it wouldn't make much difference in the first half of the stage. It would also make chapters 7 and 9 highly RNG dependent. It's basically just trading one problem for another.
Touhou 15 - Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom - Perfect Stage 4 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-07-01 | LoLK stage 4 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using Sanae.A very easy stage, possibly even easier than stage 1. The last 2 waves of the laser yin-yangs near the start of the stage took a little bit to learn, but is still just a route and becomes consistent once learnt. Other than that, Sagume's nons can occasionally be a bit awkward. There's nothing difficult here.For reference, this took about 2 hours, and about 1 hour in I had only just figured out the laser yin-yangs.
Touhou 11 - Subterranean Animism - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-05-23 | SA stage 5 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using MarisaB.Skips Cat's Walk. In the distant past, I avoided this stage and ruled out SA LNN because I didn't enjoy Cat's Walk at all. Skipping it is allowed under LNN conditions, though it is a bit unethical. I care more about my own enjoyment of the game though, so I'm going to skip it every time.Doing the skip does makes the stage fairly easy. The next hardest thing is Ghost Wheels, which isn't too difficult. Besides that, there isn't anything threatening. MarisaB's earth shot trivialises about half of Orin's attacks and pacifist strats make the stage portion quite easy.

TD is widely considered one of the easiest LNNNs, and I'd agree with that opinion. The hardest thing TD throws at you is Miko's penultimate and even that's not too bad compared to the hardest attacks of other games (e.g. UFO's Greatest Treasure, LoLK's PDH, HSiFS's Behind Festival). The one caveat of TD is that it's RNG heavy. A lot of attacks are RNG dependent, but since the game is relatively easy, even bad RNG is manageable in quite a few cases. I'd also say that while TD's late game (S4-6) is very easy compared to other games, the early game (S1-3) isn't the easiest. Yuyuko's penultimate, Kyouko's final and Yoshika's 3rd non can all get very sketchy with bad RNG. Yoshika's 3rd non is probably the closest I got to dying in this run, there were some sketchy dodges near the end of that. As a result, I struggled to get runs through the early game, but the ones that did get through tended to be low miss (3 or fewer).I'm using Marisa, even though the most-common choice is Reimu. IMO, Marisa is actually better than Reimu. Her missiles have a shotgun effect and deal noticeably more damage at pointblank range, which opens up quite a few speedkill strategies that Reimu has a harder time with (e.g. Tongling Yoshika, Miko's nons, Chaotic Dance). Her lasers seem like they'd be worse than Reimu's homing amulets, but homing really isn't needed in TD, and Marisa's lasers can be used for shotgunning on Futo's boat and Miko's first lifebar. That opens up a speedkill strategy for Iwafune, which is one of the harder attacks in the game and something that Reimu has problems with. Youmu is still the objective best character in TD, no one else compares to the damage and utility of her slashes, but it was a bit surprising that so many LNNNs use Reimu. Out of all TD LNNNs, ~63% use Reimu, ~22% use Youmu and the rest is a roughly even mix of Marisa and Sanae. I guess because character choice isn't crucial in this game.This took ~100 hours over the course of 2 months. I intend to do more LNNs, but first I'll need to find another game I like enough. Currently under consideration are SA, UFO, LoLK or WBaWC, though I don't guarantee I'll actually do any of those.
Touhou 10 - Mountain of Faith - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-03-16 | MoF stage 5 on lunatic, without dying or bombing, using MarisaC.This stage is laughably easy. It's definitely the easiest stage perfect I've done and I'd honestly say stage 3 is harder than this.The stage portion is basically all routing. Once you learn the routes, there's very little danger. And MarisaC trivialises things even further. Quite a few of the waves of enemies spawn simultaneously from opposite sides of the screen, and MarisaC's shot is perfect for dealing with such situations. For example, the fairies that fire the red kunai rings don't even manage to shoot here.Sanae is mostly the same: many of her attacks are static and become very easy once learnt. The only remotely threatening attack she has Moses Miracle but even that isn't too hard. The midboss spell is a little intimidating, but since the bullets are so slow, I wouldn't actually call it difficult even with Marisa's larger-than-normal hitbox.And to top it all off, this stage is really short. If I'd skipped the end dialogue, it'd be under 4 minutes. I actually found it a little bit dull, to be honest.
Touhou 7 - Perfect Cherry Blossom - Perfect Stage 6 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-02-09 | PCB stage 6 on lunatic, without dying, bombing, or border breaks, using SakuyaB.This is a fairly easy stage, especially for a stage 6. It's also a stage that I'm not especially fond of. I actually did attempts of this stage before I stopped playing, but I never got the perfect because I got bored of it.The spam at the opening of the stage is really annoying. It's particularly bad if you're not using a shot type with good spread (ReimuA or any Sakuya) since otherwise you can't kill the fairies on both sides as they spawn. SakuyaB is the best here because she can hit both sides simultaneously. ReimuA and SakuyaA can only hit 1 target at a time, but they are able to reach both sides which means they're still effective. It's basically a nightmare for the other shot types.After that, Youmu and Yuyuko are mostly trivial and slightly dull. There's an abundance of static patterns and the stuff that isn't static consists of slow bullets with big gaps. Yuyuko also moves around quite a bit, or forces you to move around, which means that depending on your shot type, the fight can drag on a bit. Resurrection Butterfly is really good though. It's a fun attack with a reasonable difficulty and there's a few different approaches you can take for it. It gives the ending of the stage, and the whole game, a bit of tension after a somewhat underwhelming stage.I had honestly come back to this stage since I was thinking of going for a PCB LNNN. Getting this stage perfect has put me off slightly, mostly because of the spam, but I'm not going to rule it out completely.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Ghost Team Scoring [5,513,579,410] - Lunatic Jovial 2020-02-08 | A video of me beating Imperishable Night on lunatic, attaining a final score of 5,513,579,410. This is an old PB I did years ago (2015/09/30), which someone requested that I upload. Note that the replay desyncs on Wriggle's first non. Wriggle isn't too notable for scoring, so it's not the worst place to have a desync though.Survival wise, this was a solid run. No miss and no failed last spells. 16 bombs, but only 3 for survival (Stage 4 post-midboss enemies, Double Spark and Salamander Shield). I can't say much about scoring quality though, it's been too long. A few things I do remember though: - I was avoiding Mystia's midboss spell supergraze because of how inconsistent I was at it. It's very difficult and it doesn't help that Mystia is able to move high enough to block you. This was probably the biggest thing holding my score back.- My method for Hourai Jewel was mostly just the survival route but I was missing a lot of easy points because of that. It's actually very easy to graze since it can be routed. I did have a scoring route that I learnt and began using, but it never made it into a PB.Also, the reason I gave up on this (and Touhou in general) was because of Kaguya's 4th last spell. It's worth a ton (~90m capture bonus, 60m time bonus, etc) but I was having an infuriating issue where I could capture it more than 90% of the time in practice but had failed it in a lot of consecutive runs. Since practice wouldn't help, I couldn't figure out what to do and in the end, it demotivated me enough to stop playing.I won't rule out going back to scoring this game. Familiars and time points honestly make it a ton of fun and watching this run back makes me feel a bit nostalgic. Touhou 16 - Hidden Star in Four Seasons - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2020-02-02 | HSiFS stage 5 on lunatic, without dying, bombing, or releases, using Marisa Autumn.This stage was kind of rough. While stage 4 took ~6 hours, this was more like ~18. Part of the difficulty is due to choosing Marisa over Reimu. IMO, there are 3 parts that get troublesome due to Marisa's spread.First is the lines of orbs starting at ~0:17. While Reimu gets to sit in the middle and let the homing shots do all the work, Marisa has to either start in an upper corner and sweep across fast enough to not get stuck but slowly enough to kill everything (which is what I did), or move side-to-side and kill the orbs as they spawn. Leaving even 1 orb alive is usually a reset unless you're on the 3rd wave. Doing this in stage practice also means you won't have maxed season shots which make a ton of difference. Even level 1 Autumn shots helps a lot.Then there's the orbs at the end of the stage. Again, Reimu sits there and lets the homing shots handle it. With high level Autumn shots, Marisa can do a somewhat safe strategy where you kill the 3rd and 4th sets quickly, move over to the right then stream left. You really need to be quick to pull that off though, otherwise the 5th set gets too close to you before you can kill it. Without Autumn shots (or if you're too slow), you kill the 4th set then stop shooting and make a big anti-clockwise loop around the screen. That's rather risky though, since once you get back to the lower left corner, you have a few seconds before the screen clear, during which a lot of orbs are shooting at you and you don't have much space to move. The last part (and definitely the worst part of the stage) is Behind Festival. The stars are atrocious, their stop-start movement is terrible and because there's so many, you can't easily predict when they're going to move. Reimu's advantage here is that she gets to do horizontal streaming, which means the arrowheads and amulets aren't too bad, it's mostly just the stars that are a pain. Marisa's low spread means she has to do this horrible vertical method which means the positioning of the arrowheads matters a lot more. If a lot of them align with the boss, it makes dealing damage hard and means you'll have trouble when the amulets come back up. Factor in the stars too, and it becomes a nightmare. I had 5 or 6 1 miss runs which only failed this attack.Rest of the stage isn't too notable. I did get a bit frustrated at times at the sections mentioned above, but in the end I got through it. Passing marks, I guess?
Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2015-08-06 | A video of me fighting through stage 5 and its boss: The Disciple of Vaiśravaṇa, Shou Toramaru, without dying, bombing or using the UFO system.One of the hardest stages in the series. The stage gets quite difficult and stays difficult as soon as Nazrin shows up and from there, there's a huge number of things that can kill you quite easily. Some of those things can get so difficult and can be so annoying you'll want to tear off your face...well I felt that way at least. So many attacks are heavily influenced by RNG and can be borderline impossible with bad RNG. Nazrin's spell is a fantastic example of this. As a side note, no I don't have a clue how I managed to survive at 1:50, that movement was pure luck.Help with difficult attacks:JEWELED PAGODA "GREATEST TREASURE":Pure RNG, basically "get good RNG or die, the spell". Only advice I have is practice a lot and try to rush through it as quickly as possible. Reimu A can end it as the 3rd wave of lasers splits apart.2ND NONSPELL:More RNG :C This is massively dependent on Shou's movement. If she moves down, it gets difficult to read the curvy lasers before they reach you. The attack can also give you trouble if 2 beams and the circles all come close to you. I got super lucky and had easy RNG for basically everything on this attack.BUDDHA'S LIGHT "VAJRA OF PERFECT BUDDHISM":Not that difficult but it requires some getting used to. It helps to be a faster character but this comes with a bigger hitbox, making other attacks harder. First, get used to unfocused movement; slower characters require more skilled movement to keep ahead of the laser. Second, try to get those red magic circles close to Shou, this seems to make the lasers rotate slower and you reduce the risk of not being able to outrun the laser. Last thing is that you can learn approximate positions to place those magic circles. Again, this reduces the chance of not being able to outrun the laser. Do all that and get some practice and it becomes fairly easy. My spellcard history isn't truly accurate, I could double the number of captures I have if you took all the attempts that I died on because I didn't have enough power and considered those as captures too."COMPLETE CLARIFICATION":Mostly standard dodging. I'd suggest you start in the lowest laser gap possible on each wave. This means you're less likely to be hit from behind. After that, you'll want to move away from where you are if you either see the balls all coming towards you or if they make a big open spot where you are. This is typically followed by everything converging on you.

An important score for me since it beats the old best score on MotK by a little under 14 million points. Was a very good run, hardly any mistakes and only 1 of those was on a scoring strategy. It also seems that my current route isn't going to take me much further past 5.5 billion so I guess it's time to improve my current strategies and learn some other ones (Mystia's "midboss" spell comes to mind). Touhou 7 - Perfect Cherry Blossom - Perfect Stage 4 - Lunatic Jovial 2015-03-08 | A video of me fighting through stage 4 and its bosses: The Poltergeist Violinist Lunasa Prismriver, The Poltergeist Trumpeter Merlin Prismriver and The Poltergeist Keyboardist Lyrica Prismriver, without dying, bombing or breaking a border.Quite enjoyed this stage, it's a little easy in places but still had fun getting this perfect. I'd honestly consider LNNing PCB if I found stage 6 enjoyable. Help with difficult attacks:LILY:Lily's first attack (the blue things with the aimed red arrowheads) has some important logic behind it. The main thing is that Lily's horizontal position after teleporting is the same as the horizontal position that those arrowheads are aimed at. That makes it harder to misdirect the aimed bullets so if you want to deal damage, you need to do a small sidestep to avoid those aimed bullets and keep dealing damage. Then comes her spam attack which looks like pure dodging, just try not to get trapped and you'll be fine.BONUS ENEMIES AFTER LILY:These are bonus enemies, there's a time slot in this stage for Lily and these enemies so if you take longer on Lily, fewer of these enemies appear. You absolutely have to kill certain waves of these but leave other waves alive. You want to kill everything except the ones that spawn blue shotguns when they die. The ones that shoot the red shotguns when they die can be left alive or killed but becauseyou need to kill the enemies that spawn after them, you'll probably end up killing them. Since you need to effectively memorise this section, you'll want to finish Lily at the same time every run of this stage. I usually kill her during her 2nd spam phase, a little earlier than I do in this run. This would give me an extra wave of bonus enemies at the start; you need to kill those ones. An alternative would be to stall Lily for longer so you get very few of these enemies to deal with. How you do it is your choice.NOTE: PRISMRIVER BOSS STRUCTURE:The boss fight has a specific structure. The first 2 nonspells are decided by which character you play as. I believe that Reimu gets Lunasa, Marisa gets Lyrica and Sakuya gets Merlin. The first spell Noisy Sign "Live Poltergeist" is present for all characters. The next nonspell and spellcard are decided by which sister you deal the most damage to during "Live Poltergeist". Most people believe Lyrica is easiest to deal with. The last 2 spellcards are also present for all characters.LUNASA'S 2ND NONSPELL:This seems to be a difficult attack regardless of which sister you're fighting. For Lunasa, you want to actively look for where you need to dodge the least. This tends to mean going around lots of the lines rather than through them. It may be easier to watch replays and find routes then try those routes. To me, going far to the left makes the 2nd phase easier (though I shouldn't have gone as far as I did in this replay) and the 3rd phase is easier to do if you go to the right a little bit.GREAT REQUIEM "WONDEROUS CONCERTO GROSSO":Mostly pure dodging. It seems you do more damage if you go off centre like I do. The bullets seem to form bands (get it?) or lanes of danmaku with more open areas around them so you may find it safer to go around larger clouds of danmaku rather than through them. I'd say this is the hardest attack in the stage though, the sudden change in the path of the bullets can throw you off.
Touhou 14 - Double Dealing Character - Perfect Stage 6 - Lunatic Jovial 2014-10-18 | A video of me fighting through stage 6 and its boss: The Descendant of the Inchlings, Sukuna Shinmyoumaru, without dying or bombing.This was a pretty messy run. Got dangerously close to dying a few times, most notably on the 4th nonspell where I appear to go straight through a beam. If you watch a slowed down video of a head on death to one of those beams, it becomes apparent that the hitbox is actually shorter than the beam and doesn't include the glowing head. Makes for some weird looking dodges (for instance at 3:48 when I moved down).Help with difficult attacks:NOTE FOR REIMU A:Reimu A is widely used for survival. Her onusa homes and when hitting with it and the non-homing amulets, you deal ridiculous damage for a homing shot. The drawback comes on this stage and it's caused by the onusa "drifting" off the boss. Normally this isn't a problem, but you deal very low damage if it drifts so it only just clips the bowl, even while hitting with the non-homing amulets. This becomes a problem on Bewitched Sword "Shining Needle Sword" and "The Seven Issun-Boushi". I go into a corner then place the onusa so when it locks onto Shinmyoumaru, it clips her rather than the bowl.1ST NONSPELL:Dodging attack. If you stay in the centre you can end it in a single wave. If you go off centre then you'll probably need to survive another. If you just look for big gaps and stick to those, it becomes quite easy.SMALL BULLET "KOBITO'S THORNY PATH":Tight dodging. The green bullets are obviously aimed but because of how twisty the path frequently is, you can't really use it to your advantage. A bit of practice should help you slip between those tighter gaps. This is mostly RNG though, it gets quite hard when the path constantly turns and you're not in the centre dealing full damage.2ND NONSPELL:There's a few ways to go about the white bullet phase. The easiest by far is to use the safespot, nearly everyone uses it so it shouldn't be too hard to find in another video/replay. Another method would be to keep misdirecting it by making a sort of "u" shape across the screen. Personally, I feel the former is way too easy and I prefer not to use giant safespots like that for survival runs. The latter seems to exploit the safespot too, but not as much. As such, to satisfy myself I went full dodging mode. To be honest, I doubt ZUN intended it to be safespotted but the dodging seems far too inconsistent and difficult to be the intended way for it. Wonder if there's something that everyone missed about this attack...? Purple phase is dodging too, it gets faster after a short time so end it quickly. Makes for an interesting timeout though.BEWITCHED SWORD "SHINING NEEDLE SWORD":Aimed white knives and static blue ones. Memorise this attack and it becomes straightforward. I use the Reimu A tactic here since this attack drags on for quite a while if the onusa drifts onto the bowl and the amount that I've memorised has a limit.

Over those 8 months, I managed 134 LNB runs, 8 of which either had 1 death or 1 failed last spell. Kind of glad to have finally managed this, it was a lot of fun but I would frequently get frustrated. Fortunately, Kaguya's RNG was fairly tame throughout her boss fight, the only trouble I had was when I panicked on her 3rd nonspell. The run was, for the most part, extremely ordinary. There weren't many cases of abnormal RNG or lucky dodges. I went into a bit of a tight gap on stage 6 at 23:55 and I kind of ignored my strategy for the third wave of Eirin's nonspell which nearly killed me. Ignoring your strategy on a memo attack is not a good idea :V. Other than that, nothing exceptional.Err, on my other videos I put deaths (for clears) or strategies (for stage perfects) here. Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object - Perfect Stage 6 - Lunatic Jovial 2014-08-08 | A video of me fighting through stage 6 and its boss: The Sealed Great Magician, Byakuren Hijiri, without dying, bombing or using the UFO system.This stage is seen as one of the most difficult in the series. Byakuren is the main reason for this; she has a lot of horribly difficult attacks. Even her easy attacks can become challenging with bad RNG. I think I got lucky with this, mainly on Devil's Recitation. Came close to dying twice. Even then, I never had a run before this which went below 4 miss. I should have needed hundreds of restarts more but oh well. If you plan on doing this perfect yourself, I'd recommend using the SpoilerAL table, Cheat Engine table, Boss Rush patch and LFS patch for practice. I'm technically cheating here; I did this replay with infinite lives and power loss on death disabled, though since I didn't die none of these made a difference here.Help with difficult attacks:GOOD OMEN "NIRVANA'S CLOUDY WAY IN PURPLE": Very, very difficult attack which is pure dodging. You can safespot the first half of the first wave by sitting under Byakuren but this is only useful with Sanae B due to Byakuren's bigger hitbox allowing Sanae B to shotgun. I was still doing practice of this when I got this run. Every attempt I did of this, if I died I timed it out. This combined with the Boss Rush patch makes for an easy practice method. As for dodging, general rule of thumb is that if you can see a gap, you can probably go through it. RNG is vital here. You'll have an easy time if the droplets form lanes but it's basically impossible if they're spread out.2ND NONSPELL: More difficult dodging mixed with streaming. The lasers are aimed generally and can't be streamed normally. Keep an eye on them; a laser can spawn a bit ahead of you and cut you off so it's sometimes necessary to go unfocused. I go unfocused quite a lot since dodging the fireballs is hard enough without needed to keep watching something else. Funen1 has an alternative strategy for this which means you don't need to dodge as many fireballs but I couldn't figure out how to do it consistently.LIGHT MAGIC "MAGIC MILKY WAY": You want to dodge the stars horizontally and the curvy beams vertically. I was awful at this since I often didn't look at the stars carefully enough or I got cut off by a curvy beam. My spellcard history is deceiving though. I was getting much better when I got this perfect. Still nearly clipped a star at the end though.GREAT MAGIC "DEVIL'S RECITATION": The wiki's unofficial comment on the hard mode variant of this holds a lot of truth. "The less impressive looking bullets are the killers." Keep a close eye on the bullets that stick to the sides then come at you. They're supposedly aimed but I couldn't figure out a way to use this since the timing seems awkward. Learn the bubble hitbox and don't be afraid of getting close to the lasers and bubbles. I got lucky here. Nearly went face first into a bubble at 4:27 then nearly got sandwiched by 2 smaller circles as the attack was ending at 4:37.FLYING BOWL "LEGENDARY FLYING SAUCER": This is mostly aggressive dodging though I did think out a strategy for the occasional wave. The 3rd purple wave and 1st light blue wave I do slightly off centre because I kept getting trapped. I pause on the 1st wave of the 2nd set of purples 5:31 because this makes the red waves easier (or something like that, I definitely didn't just blindly copy other people :V). Couple of retarded dodges in this attack too (eg at 5:29).
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Perfect Stage 4A - Lunatic Jovial 2014-07-11 | A video of me fighting through stage 4A and its boss: the Wonderful Shrine Maiden of Paradise, Reimu Hakurei, without dying or bombing.Done using Scarlet team because Magic team is difficult to use and Border team trivialises a few aspects of Reimu (namely her dreamlike floaty movement and that she uses familiars as bullets). Also wanted to use someone who actually faces Reimu in story mode.Now that I've done perfects of both, I can sort of see why most people see Reimu as the harder boss. In a regular 1cc, the difference isn't that noticeable. Both have difficult attacks that you would bomb anyway and the difference in difficulty is negligible. However, when perfects are considered, Reimu becomes much more difficult purely because her last spell is one of the more difficult ones in the game whereas Marisa's is one of the easiest.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:As usual in IN, you can manipulate Reimu's movement. Here it's only useful for damage rushing but it should be noted that it doesn't consistently work during Reimu's 2nd nonspell.2ND NONSPELL: A sort of trap type attack. Large clusters of fast red circles can easily trap and kill you. If possible, look out for these and go around them. Also, be aggressive with the dodging and try to follow Reimu with Remilia's familiars; you deal damage quickly by doing this. Reimu's movement isn't always predictable here, be careful if you're trying to manipulate Reimu's movement. Be aware that there are a couple of Yin-Yang orbs around so try not to unfocus.SCATTERED SPIRIT "FANTASY SEAL -FADER-":This is mostly a matter of reaction based dodging. If you get unlucky, you'll get lots of fast bullets coming towards you with no obvious way to dodge them. I'd suggest rushing through this one as well. Again, watch out if you go unfocused since there are a few Yin-Yang orbs around.MIGRATING SPIRIT "FANTASY SEAL -DARK-":Difficult streaming. I position Remilia's familiars on the right then force Reimu to the left at the start. If you move at roughly the same speed as Reimu when streaming, you can repeatedly reposition Remilia's familiars and finish this quickly. DIVINE SPIRIT "FANTASY SEAL -BLINK-":More difficult streaming. I stay unfocused for no particular reason. The only trick here is that every third wave (when Reimu shoots the purple balls), Reimu herself is aimed at you. Try to make her move vertically since the streaming is normally easier this way. If you can't, either force her to move horizontally and stream like that or improvise it. I'd only suggest improvising if you can figure out where Reimu will come out of the sides of the screen (this can get complicated if she rushes through a corner). Try not to get trapped by the amulets by predicting when this would happen. 5:52 is a good example of this. Predicted that I would get trapped in the corner so avoided it and kept in mind that I would need to keep streaming the purple balls and that Reimu would reappear from the top. If possible, avoid moving through Reimu. Her amulets should not spawn in you but they can spawn just ahead of you. Her purple balls have a significant delay on them so you can move through her during the rush phase, but it makes their aiming very unpredictable. After the third cycle, focus on dealing damage since Reimu loses her damage resistance at about this point.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Scarlet Destiny 120 fps Timeout Jovial 2014-04-07 | A video of me timing out Remilia Scarlet's last word: "Scarlet Destiny" at 120 fps.I wanted to do this because, after timing out the normal attack in about 3 attempts, I realised it was a very simple and easy but enjoyable attack. I kind of wish there were more attacks like this (ie that depend on knowing how the attack works and moving accordingly) but with a higher difficulty. Started at about 2/50 on the history and captured it once accidentally. Also got hit with 00 on the timer 3 times...it's cruel for another wave to start at that point ;-;Also, this is "high speed scarlet" with extra speed.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Perfect Stage 6B - Lunatic Jovial 2014-02-19 | A video of me fighting through stage 6B and its boss: The Eternal Moon Princess, Kaguya Houraisan, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:Yes you can manipulate boss movements, but its not as important here since there are fewer attacks that you need to rush through. As always, go to the boss's left to move them left and their right to move them right.1ST NONSPELL:One of few attacks in the series that is designed to trap you and is extremely effective at doing so. My advice is to rush through it and manipulate Kaguya's movements. Also, get used to going unfocused.DIVINE TREASURE "BRILLIANT DRAGON BULLET":This is mostly dodging. It traps you occasionally but not always. I'd actually advise against aggressive dodging and instead, if you get dense patterns of circle bullets, move further horizontally. The gaps in the long bullets get smaller though, so be warned.DIVINE TREASURE "SALAMANDER SHIELD":There are 3 strategies for this. You can do what I do and stream very slowly so you don't need to reverse the stream, you can stream vertically or you can stream horizontally at a normal speed. I found that vertical streaming was too complicated for me to learn and doing reversals isn't always reliable. You can take out one of the familiars before they start shooting but this is only useful if you doing horizontal streaming with reversals. If you doing the slow streaming strategy, you'll want to pass through almost every gap the static pattern makes. Skip a gap if the laser will spawn in said gap. Be warned though, I skipped 3 gaps and was less than a second from death. If you're not at full power, do not use this strategy.DIVINE TREASURE "LIFE SPRING INFINITY":General strategy should be obvious. The only things worth mentioning are that you should try to deal damage to Kaguya as quickly as possible and that the hitbox for the lasers is a bit slow. When they appear to go solid, you have a short time during which you can still pass through them unharmed. The same is true for Divine Treasure "Buddhist Diamond" and Forgiveness "Honest Man's Death". You'll definitely want to practice this extensively if you're uncomfortable dodging bullets from behind.DIVINE TREASURE "HOURAI JEWEL":Streaming. You can do the start in a number of ways. If you want to do what I did then the first position's height is the top of the capital "I" in "Imperishable". I start the main part of the spell from the first digit on the score on the youkai gauge. The streaming is actually very consistent and easy if you use the yellow balls strategy, which involves turning the stream when you go under the yellow bullets that I did. The last 2 reversals require you to use cyan bullets instead. For the penultimate reversal, you'll need to move through the gap, wait a bit then turn the stream."IMPERISHABLE NIGHT'S END -PASCHAL MOON-":The lines are aimed around around you so you can get very close to Kaguya. As for the reversal of the red bullets, I drop down at 09 on the timer (I go by hearing the counter count twice). Rest should be obvious."IMPERISHABLE NIGHT'S END -HALF PAST 4-":The lines are static, with Border Team hitbox, the bottom right corner is safe for 3 waves but you might need to move with other teams. For the rest, as a general rule of thumb, I tap to move 3 times or more to ensure the bubbles don't hit me."IMPERISHABLE NIGHT'S END -RISING WORLD-":Very RNG dependent and very fast. Honestly, I got lucky and there's not much you can do except practice this. The key is getting used to dodging the fast bullets rather than trying to unfocus and move somewhere else on the screen. With the curving bullets, try to stay in the centre but get some practice at doing the attack off centre too. This was by far my most problematic attack, so don't feel bad if you're struggling with this. I came close to death multiple times.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Perfect Stage 5 - Lunatic Jovial 2014-02-15 | A video of me fighting through stage 5 and its boss: the Mad Moon Rabbit, Reisen Udongein Inaba, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:Boss's movements are manipulable, stay on their left to move them left and on their right to move them right. TEWI:For her 1st nonspell I prefer to enter the pattern from one of the further back waves in the "steps" of the and then stay still. Some people prefer to go far off centre and dodge from there but I found this to be more difficult. For the lines of red/blue circles, the from bullet is aimed at you so use that to your advantage. Sidestep left for the reds and right for the blues. Second nonspell is easy, just position yourself so the graze circle is only just not touching the bottom and dodge horizontally. It seems this takes longer to defeat if you deal any damage whatsoever to the familiars for some reason O_o.LUNATIC GAZE "ILLUSION SEEKER":Practice is key here. The more you practice, the better you'll be able to see the bullets during the red eye effect and the easier it becomes to predict where a safespot will open up. I'm terrible at this by the way.INDOLENCE "MIND STOPPER":The general method should be obvious here. However, some people prefer to alternate where they dodge at the bottom while others prefer to always do one side. I'm the latter type but it's worth getting used to both sides in case the one side you're good at dodging on becomes dangerous. You should also practice unfocusing at times to get to the centre faster so the aimed bullets spread out less.LUNAR EYES "TELE-MESMERISM (REMOTE RABBIT)":Actually quite easy once you get the hang of a specific strategy. Reisen's hitbox seems to be slightly smaller here, to the point that Yukari can't hit with all 3 streams of her shot, so stay off centre if you're using her. Start at the bottom of the screen and off centre to the right. Have your hitbox above the "m" of "Enemy". This forces Reisen right so move right as the red eyes effect occurs and move slightly up so you don't get hit. Again, stay on her right. During the second red eyes effect, move up to about halfway and dodge as best you can when the effect stops. Maximise damage if you can but survival obviously takes priority. During the third red eyes effect, move up above half way up and dodge the reds spawned from the right when the effect wears off. Finally, during the fourth red eyes effect, finish Reisen off and capture the spell. The hard part is the third spell. If you're struggling to understand this wall of text, then just roughly copy what I did in the video.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Perfect Stage 4B - Lunatic Jovial 2014-02-08 | A video of me fighting through stage 4B and its boss: the Ordinary Black Magician, Marisa Kirisame, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:Exactly like Eirin, you can manipulate Marisa's movements. This is vital since quite a few of her attacks are almost static with the only variable being Marisa's position. So stay on her left to move her left and on her right to move her right.1ST NONSPELL:One of those almost static patterns I just mentioned. I stick to the bottom and move slowly right to deal with the initial difficult waves then swap to regular dodging.MAGIC SPACE "ASTEROID BELT":Not much to say about this since its primarily regular dodging. Try not to get yourself trapped at the bottom; if you struggle to move upwards then start as high up as you dare. Easily her hardest spellcard and quite dependent on not getting brutal RNG and having awkward arrangements of the side stars.2ND NONSPELL:Again, static but uses Marisa's position. It's a bit difficult to pull her left since the pattern forces you into a gap that's almost perfectly in the centre. One you're used to that there's also a number of difficult overlapping waves to deal with by memorising. I pull her left then rush to dodge through the blue wave on my right as quickly as possible.
Touhou 8 - Imperishable Night - Perfect Stage 6A - Lunatic Jovial 2014-02-01 | A video of me fighting through stage 6A and its boss: the Brain of the Moon, Eirin Yagokoro, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:Eirin's movement can be manipulated almost entirely since the way she moves horizontally is usually based on where you are relative to her. If you're on her left, she'll move left. If you're on her right, she'll move right. Use this to get some consistency in the patterns. The main use of this (at least for me) was on Apollo 13 since I find it harder to dodge if I move left.GOD SIGN "GENEALOGY OF THE SKY BORN":If you manipulate Eirin's horizontal movement, the only variation in the genealogical tree will be due to her vertical position and your position so you can at least partially memorise it. Staying slightly above the bottom of the screen will also help since if a laser is too low to avoid it by staying at the bottom, you won't need to move up. Unfortunately I learnt this about 3 runs before I got the perfect so wasn't used to doing this :PRESURRECTION "GAME OF RISING":This is quite difficult. First thing to do would be to get used to moving through the bubbles without seeing your hitbox since almost every dodge will involve having a bubble on top of you at some point. Other than this, learn to look around. I had so many deaths to the blue bullets or the medium sized ones because I didn't look ahead of where I was going. If you manipulate movements, you can rush this and have it captured quite quickly.3RD NONSPELL:Much like Game of Rising you need to be able to go through bubbles without seeing your hitbox. It definitely helps to look for big gaps in the waves before they start moving since you can usually (but not always) avoid getting trapped. If your unfocused character isn't Reimu, take care when the familiars are near you.CURSE OF THE HEAVENS "APOLLO 13":2 static patterns overlapped and aimed randomly. I treated this as a fixed pattern anyway and memorised a route through. This eventually improved my capture rate from 1/6 to 1/2 though my spellcard practice record is now 135/599 since I did 5 captures in spellcard practice every day. This is where manipulating Eirin's movements is key. I force her to move right twice for added staticness. Try not to let it trap you against the sides or bottom and dodge aggressively. Yukari at full power needs 2 waves to end it though very occasionally you need 3 if you don't deal much damage because the pattern forces you out from under her.ESOTERICA "ASTRONOMICAL ENTOMBING":Lots of strategies for this. Some people prefer to kill every familiar, some prefer to kill none and some kill only specific ones. I personally kill the 2 on the bottom right then work my way up the left until there's 22 left, ensuring that at some point I kill the 2 lowest familiars in the centre. Another strategy would be to kill only those lowest 2 in the centre and leave the rest. Do whatever you find easiest.
Touhou 10 - Mountain of Faith - Perfect Stage 6 - Lunatic Jovial 2013-12-31 | A video of me fighting through stage 6 and its boss: The Avatar of Mountains and Lakes, Kanako Yasaka, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:GENERAL:Much like stage 4 and Aya, there's lots of "just dodge to the best of your ability" attacks so once again, it's sometimes difficult to give good advice. I'll try my best though.1ST NONSPELL:Very fast circles with no apparent pattern. This requires quick reflexes and some luck to do. It's about as difficult as VoWG in my opinion. Practice it and find which shot type you do best with. I prefer to rush with Reimu B but I kept going out from below Kanako and dealing no damage when I started. If you're like that then Reimu A might be a better choice.DIVINE HUSK "DIVINING CROP":Annoying. Requires small movements and it's extremely easy to clip a bullet and die, especially if you get bad RNG and have to pass through a circle of bullets with roughly even spacing.MYSTERY "YAMATO TORUS":Most people I see doing this just seem to flail about unfocused and somehow dodge everything. I struggled with this so instead I rush through it using Reimu B and do smaller dodges while focused. It does require some luck since I occasionally got patterns with no big spaces which I usually died to.HEAVEN'S DRAGON "SOURCE OF RAINS":Streaming spellcard. The rough idea of what to do should be obvious from the video. I had problems with this in my early runs because I tried to dodge through the red/purples when they were moving diagonally. It's much easier to do if you leave it until they're horizontal and have bigger gaps. Occasionally you'll get a difficult layout of red/purple bullets which require going back the way you came or layouts which just have tight gaps so again, luck and small movements will help."DIVINE VIRTUE OF WIND GOD":I think it's pointless to say that this is horrendously difficult but I just said it anyway. Oops. The mechanics behind the attack are that each polygon of amulets (which I'm going to call rings despite them not being circles) is static but is aimed randomly. This means you need to practice it extensively and is why I continued most runs to the end of the stage. I suggest you practice by actively trying to micrododge through the lines whenever possible so that when you actually need to do this you won't have as much trouble. It also helps to remember things that seem to kill you commonly. for example I used to have problems micrododging dark blues while also dodging greens since the outermost dark blue amulets had converging paths and that confused me. Touhou 11 - Subterranean Animism - Perfect Stage 6 - Lunatic Jovial 2013-12-14 | A video of me fighting through stage 6 and its boss: The Scorching, Troublesome Divine Flame, Utsuho Reiuji, without dying or bombing.Help with difficult attacks:ATOMIC FIRE "UNCONTAINABLE NUCLEAR REACTION":The general idea is to have 2 Suns fire at you, then move out of the way of them and go off centre. Then have 2 more Suns aimed at you and then move back to the centre, all while dodging the blue shots. This is probably her hardest attack. I'd suggest you get used to moving both left and right from the centre instead of sticking with one side. Just reduces your chance of getting trapped.2ND NONSPELL:Deal as much damage as Utsuho moves across the first time then focus on not getting hit. When she stops to fire the aimed bubbles, stay below her for as long as possible and move left if you are Reimu A or right if you aren't. Reimu A is strong enough to end the attack in one wave and moving left will end the attack before Utsuho goes offscreen assuming you did enough damage. I'd suggest that you be agressive and get through the lines quickly if Utsuho is about to fly across again . For example, at 3:06 the only bullets that I haven't dodged through are the slowest ones from the last time Utsuho flew across. Doing this reduces chances of getting trapped and gives you a good idea of the hitboxes.EXPLOSION SIGN "PETA FLARE":Predict where you will be able to slip between the Suns and dodge as well as you can. Some luck is required since sometimes a gap that you predicted would open up didn't or there was a small bullet hidden by the bloom. I got lucky at 3:46.
