Screw Jack from That Lazy Machinist plans
Zander Kale 2016-04-30 | My version of a screw jack, from plans by Marc L'Ecuyer, That Lazy Machinist.
Check out youtube.com/watch?v=tgyELiYk9Wg for Marc's build along.
My version has:
- a ball bearing with ground faces and a small chunk of magnet to hold it in place,
- a 7/8" nut (the same size as a flange nut so I can use the same wrench) which makes the nut seem taller than the print
- a 1 1/16" second nut (as that is as big as my crescent wrench goes).
- I left the base round as I don't have a big enough wrench for the hex Marc calls for. Instead, I knurled the barrel.
- Turned from rod
Zander Kale 2016-04-26 | Just pulled my "ox tail" edge finder off the grinder and figured I'd do a little test to see good the grind was,.

Small hardened steel square
Zander Kale 2016-04-24 | A small square made from O1 steel, welded and ground.
A difficult project for me, it probably required more time hand lapping than grinding but the finish is off the grinder (except for the bottom of the base, which is lapped and matte).
