Curtis BoyleSneak peek at the full screen scrolling speed increase on 640x200x4 colour graphics screens in the forthcoming EOU Beta 6 (due out before the end of the year). For comparison, the exact same file is partially listed with, from left to right: Beta 1 (which matches 3.3.0 in the NitrOS-9 repository), Beta 5, and the upcoming Beta 6. This is still slower than the 6309 version, but a decent increase.

Based on original Apple II BASIC code. This is the 6309 version running under the current NitrOS-9/6309, and is not optimized or PACK'ed (which is a partial compile). Ran in MAME since I don't have capture hardware, but close to what it runs like on real hardware. One can get the sourcecode here: http://lcurtisboyle.com/nitros9/testmandel.b09 Since this was a live capture, you even get to see my typing mistakes! It shows some of the techniques of luring a phantom, and timing shots, etc. (well, until I screwed up at the end, obviously). It also shows a glitch in the score, that I honestly don't remember happening back in the 1983/1984 time frame when I scored even higher. One can calculate the score; the game rewards 2 points for each hit, and 10 points for each kill. Please note; I did not record any audio, so that it can be played in the background on the Coco Talk Show on October 31, 2020.GIME-X: Rescue on Fractalus (6309 optimized version) Demo 2 mhz vs 3 mhzCurtis Boyle2020-08-09 | Demo of the speed difference between a Coco 3 with a 1.78 Mhz Hitachi 6309 and a regular GIME chip (left side) and the same Coco 3 running the GIME-X prototype upgrade at 2.86 MHz. This demos the 6309 optimized version of the game Rescue on Fractalus, and is not frame locked, so it gets the full benefit of the speed increase.GIME-X: Kyum Gai: To Be Ninja demo 2mhz vs 3mhzCurtis Boyle2020-08-09 | Demo of the speed difference between a Coco 3 with a 1.78 Mhz Hitachi 6309 and a regular GIME chip (left side) and the same Coco 3 running the GIME-X prototype upgrade at 2.86 MHz. This demos the OS-9 port of Kyum-Gai: To be Ninja, which is NOT frame locked, and thus shows the full speed increase. Because the sound effects are sampled and played by timing loops, they also increase in speed and pitch. The sound is played for the higher speed first, then the lower speed, to show the difference.GIME-X: BASIC09 Bouncing Ball Demo 2 mhz vs 3 mhzCurtis Boyle2020-08-09 | Demo of the speed difference between a Coco 3 with a 1.78 Mhz Hitachi 6309 and a regular GIME chip (left side) and the same Coco 3 running the GIME-X prototype upgrade at 2.86 MHz. This one shows the BASIC09 Bouncing Ball demo. This does have some short Sleep calls between double buffered screens, so it doesn't show the full potential.GIME-X: Superike Demo 2mhz vs 3mhzCurtis Boyle2020-08-09 | Demo of the speed difference between a Coco 3 with a 1.78 Mhz Hitachi 6309 and a regular GIME chip (left side) and the same Coco 3 running the GIME-X prototype upgrade at 2.86 MHz. This one shows the BASIC09 program SuperIke (an Icon editor).NitrOS-9/6809 EOU scroll speeds for 80x25 text: Betas 1, 5, 6Curtis Boyle2020-08-08 | Sneak peek at the full screen scrolling speed increase on 80x25 hardware text screens in the forthcoming EOU Beta 6 (due out before the end of the year). Requires 32K of RAM, and a joystick. One of the very few games that did multi-voice music during gameplay (rather than just intermissions or splash screens), and an original game concept with two mazes that jump back and forth between. Get all the treasures into the center, and go for bonus rounds with a timer!Doubleback game playCurtis Boyle2020-04-13 | Doubleback game play video for Game On Spotlight April 11-18,2020Donkey King 126900Curtis Boyle2020-02-15 | Best game I have had since my youth... This is probably the biggest speed increase in Beta 3. Beta 2 is on the left, Beta 3 is on the right.filled circle ellipse speed comparisonCurtis Boyle2018-12-06 | NitrOS-9/6809 Ease of Use (EOU) sneak preview of speed ups with Filled Circle and Filled Ellipse commands. EOU/6809 Beta 2 on the left, EOU/6809 Beta 3 in the middle, and EOU/6309 on the right. Since I didn't randomize the seed, all 3 are running the exact same 100 circle/ellipse calls.EOU 16color Bar Speed Test comparisonCurtis Boyle2018-12-06 | Sneak preview of the increased Bar (filled box) drawing speed increase in the upcoming NitrOS-9 Ease of Use (EOU) Beta 3, compared to the Beta 2 release from November 30, 2018. On the left is NitrOS-9/6809 Beta 2, the middle is NitrOS-9/Beta 3, and on the right is NitrOS-9/6309.GUIB30 beta2 vs beta3 6809Curtis Boyle2018-12-06 | Sneak preview of the screen clearing and bar (filled box) drawing speed increases in the upcoming NitrOS-9 Ease of Use (EOU) Beta 3, compared the Beta 2 released November 30, 2018. Shown using a "practical" application - Shawn Driscoll's GUIB 3.0 (a graphical user interface library for BASIC-09). On the left is NitrOS-9 EOU Beta 2/6809; on the right is NitrOS-9 EOU Beta 3/6809.Scroll speedsCurtis Boyle2018-12-01 | Speed comparison of full width screen sprinting/scrolling under NitrOS-9 for the Tandy Color Computer 3. The top half is in the hardware 80x25 text mode (almost 4K per scroll): far left is 6809/EOU Beta 1 (same code as version 3.3.0 in the NitrOS-9 repository), the middle is 6809/Beta 2 (released Nov 30, 2018), and the right is 6309/Beta 1 or 2. The bottom half is in the same order, listing the same file, but in the 640x200x4 color graphics mode (almost 32k per scroll).NitrOS-9 get put buffer speeds by versionCurtis Boyle2018-12-01 | Speed comparison of even byte get/put buffers under NitrOS-9 for the Tandy Color Computer 3. The song was originally written by me, and originally played with Dwayne on drums, and Iyaz Akhtar on bass.Donkey King SuperjumpCurtis Boyle2013-05-09 | I tip/trick that can be used on the Rivets screen of Donkey King for the Tandy (TRS-80) Color Computer (Should work on the Dragon version as well), where you can pop all the rivets in rapid succession on the right hand side.
