Threshold - Mission Profile Rhythm Guitar Cover SnowDog80 2018-10-16 | I've always loved this song, and the lyrics feel just as true now as they were back when they were released in 2004. I first tried playing this song right when I was learning how to play most of Threshold, and the quick riffing was beyond my skill level at the time, so I just shelved it and forgot about it. A recent Threshold listening binge made me revisit it, though, and while some parts are still difficult (the quick palm muted runs in the heavy part before the chorus are too far for my fingers to spread, for example, so I just fudged it the best I could), I could at least make a passable run at it. Hopefully the results do it justice!
Third Day - Caught Up In Yourself Guitar Cover SnowDog80 2018-08-05 | I dont' know how many times I've listened to this song without really recognizing how awesome the guitar parts are for this and how rocking the song is, but a recent trip in the car had me focusing on exactly that. And I knew I had to cover it once that happened. Hope to have done it justice. Very fun to learn by ear and play!
Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes Guitar Cover SnowDog80 2018-06-09 | In Absentia is the first Porcupine Tree album I ever heard, and from the first riff of Blackest Eyes, it instantly had me hooked and I was a fan. Incredible lead song on an amazing album. Surprisingly not flashy and fairly easy to play, but still a lot of fun!

Steve Miller Band - Jungle Love Guitar Cover SnowDog80 2017-08-02 | Going to some classic rock for a bit for a few reasons. First of all, I'm trying to expand my proficiency past just playing power chords with the occasional lead, which, secondly, makes things more fun to play. And, third, there's some good memories tied up with this song and band in particular. Steve Miller Band was among my favorites to listen to on car trips with the family when I was a kid, and a recent visit back home piqued my interest in this song as it sounded in my skill level of playing. Turns out it was trickier than I originally had thought, but it's still a hell of a lot of fun, and the alternate tuning of open A was interesting to mess around with. I hadn't played much in the few weeks prior to learning this one, so all the slides and such during the song blistered the shit out of my fingers at first! Again, not a perfect rendition for sure, but hopefully close enough!Oh, and the pitch might sound a little lower than on the record, mostly because it was recorded 3/8 of a step higher than the actual open A tuning used here. But it's not that much of a difference and it was easier to tune the track down that much rather than tune the guitar up to it, so this is what you get. Doesn't sound too much different overall in the key I'm playing for this video, and anything lower sounded even more like mud. This baby is a HUGE upgrade from the Peavey and Ibanez that I have been using, and the sound on it is so much clearer than those other guitars. Love this thing!

I was pretty tired when I recorded this video, and I realize that I really dragged the beat in places that make Lars' timekeeping seem like a fucking Swiss wristwatch, so please forgive me that. Regardless, this song is a hell of a lot of fun to play.There's also a small outtake, like a "bonus clip" if you will, at the end which I found amusing when I rewatched it. Yes, that was the guitar pick I hucked in frustration when I missed the pre-chorus riff, and the solid, loud thunk it made in my webcam's microphone surprised me and made me laugh.

And, after picking up the guitar last summer, when I listened to it again, I thought that it would be a blast to play. I wasn't wrong. This take isn't perfect (I don't expect it to be after playing for less than a year), and I know the rhythm is slightly off at the beginning, but it's still probably the best that I could do at this point. I also upgraded the sound, recording directly into the computer and using a webcam for the video. Much better than using the shitty point and shoot camera I had for my previous two videos.Hope you enjoy!
Devin Townsend Project - Resolve Rhythm Guitar Cover SnowDog80 2012-03-13 | As soon as I heard this song when Devin Townsend's Addicted came out, it became my favorite on the album. So, of course, I also had to learn how to play it. Today was the first attempt, and I have to say that I think I've got the rhythm chords down pretty well spot on. The root note during the verses of course should be palm muted, but I'm not that good at that yet and it sounded better if I just left it open. I also know that there's a few pinch harmonics in there, and I can't pull those off either yet, so cut me some slack. Not bad, though, for only learning how to play this thing today, and I'm VERY surprised that no one else has covered this song yet, nor are there any tabs that I could find. Yes, I learned this by ear.
