Lunarix - the latest ride from KMG thrills riders in the Netherlands! Fun Fair Rides 2025-07-26 | The much anticipated Lunarix ride from KMG has been thrilling riders in the NetherlandsSince being announced by the Dutch manufacturer almost a year and a half ago there has been much excitement around this new and original concept, and more importantly plenty of interest from Showmen around the world with several orders being placed before the first version was even built.While the first one is owned by Broderick & Blake Pavier of Goldenway Amusements in Australia, It is actually the second Lunarix owned by Otten-Roels of the Netherlands that actually has opened first.Called Maximum the ride features a striking green and white colour scheme and is lit by colour changing lights at night.Maximum opened at Best Kermis first before moving on to the famous Tilburg Kermis. The Lunarix features a compact footprint of 50 foot frontage by 30 feet deep and an impressive height of 77 feet. The whole machine packs on to one trailer does not need a water ballast or a crane to build up.Seating 16 riders in individual seats with 8 at each end of the main arm, the Lunarix features 3 axis of movement with the vertical axis of the main arm, the horizontal axis of the spindles and the independent rocking of the seats.Maximum was offering a fast paced, high speed and intense ride. Many reported the rocking of the seats was too violent at times when going slower, but at full speed the ride was exhilarating to experience.The Maximum has been getting a lot of attention from the locals in both Best and and Tilburg and no doubt will be getting a good reception in Eindhoven next.As for the Lunarix the machine looks set to be the next big hit for KMG. The Paybox is designed as a ski hut complete with a overhanging sloping roof with the artwork adorned with posters, snowboards and LED screens fitting in with the strong Ski Party theme.By night Sky Party’s large top sign is lit in colour changing LED lighting and is bound to stand out, being visible from a good distance away.After Edinburgh Meadows the Ski Party will continue on the Taylors of Edinburgh run for the rest of the season.

Dexter Hackett adds fire cannons to his Joker Kolamax Plus Spinner Fun Fair Rides 2025-06-01 | Dexter Hackett’s Joker continues it’s tour around the country.The Joker is the first Kolmax Plus Spinner ride in the UK. The Spinner has been a massive seller for Kolmax since being introduced in 2022. Over a dozen have been built since then with several heading to the United States.The Kolmax Plus Spinner is also well suited to the UK Fairs due to the compact 50 foot footprint, a high 32 rider capacity, a quick build up, and most importantly on one trailer.Dexter Hackett opened his Joker for the first time in late October of 2024, and in 2025 he intends to open the ride at many major fairs and events around the country.One of the recent additions is two fire-cannons above the paybox. These look spectacular at night as they fire into the sky.Dexter Hackett actually has four of these fire-cannons and hopes add the other two to the back of the machine on the Joker top sign in the near future.The Joker has been gaining a popular following in the country as the only Breakdance ride on tour.

The National Fairground Museum opens in Statfold! Fun Fair Rides 2025-05-29 | The National Fairground Museum Statfold Webitestatfold.com/national-fairground-museumThe National Fairground Museum Statfold Facebook pagefacebook.com/NationalFairgroundMuseumStatfoldOn Friday 23rd of May the new National Fairground Museum opened at Statfold in Staffordshire.Located in the already established tourist attraction of Statfold Country Park, famous for its narrow-gauge railway.In just over 6 months the National Fairground Museum was closed in Dingles, moved and reopened at Statfold.Greeting visitors as they walk up to the venue this year is John Wheatley JNR’s Lighthouse Slip.Once inside visitors can find some of the best preserved fairground rides in the country.These include Robert Edwards & Sons Super Speedway. The ride was built by Burton based Orton and Spooner in 1934 for Robert Edward & Sons. The Speedway features a large front and flights on the inside, all lit with traditional bulbs. The Speedway still goes at a pretty decent speed for which the ride was famous for.Simon Harris & Kevin Scrivin’s Gallopers can be found to the other-side of the entrance. They have owned the ride since 2001. The Gallopers were built by Walker’s in 1911 and were located at the Iron Bridge museum before coming to the National Fairground Museum in StatfoldThe Moon Rockets is perhaps the most famous ride in the National Fairground Museum. The ride was built by Lakin and Maxwell in 1939 for Shaw’s. In 1954 the swinging cars were added giving the ride a distinctive look. The ride would travel to some of the biggest and most famous fairs in the country until its final opening with Shaw’s at Nottingham Goose Fair in 1982. After being restored by Keith Maden, the ride would open to the public again at various steam rallies, with the Moon Rockets being a regular feature at Lincoln Steam Fair for many years.The Moon Rocket’s was acquired by the Fairground Heritage Trust in December of 2016 and would open at Dingles in 2017, where it ran with many of the other rides until 2024. It is great to see this famous and fast ride move to the new National Fairground Museum in Statfold.Around the corner is the Ghost Train. This is one of the oldest Ghost Trains in the country and one of the few remaining ones in original condition. Built in 1947 by the Amusement Supplies Company for John Stevens, the ride would travel for many years by John Brett. In 1994 the ride was acquired by Kevin Gamlen, and opened at Dingles in 2010. Once the Ghost Train arrived in Statfold Tom Tooley set about restoring the spectacular front. Inside the Ghost Train features several effects and scenery on the walls illuminated by UV lighting and is considered one of the best examples of a historic Ghost Train in the country.In the back room the major attraction is the Dodgems. Built by Orton & Spooner for Robert Edwards and sons in 1932, the track became part of the Fairground Heritage Trust in 1993. This is one of the few dodgem tracks that still feature its substantial flash, and as one of the biggest Dodgem tracks in the country it is bound to prove popular with riders of all ages.For those don’t want to spin around, also in the back room are games to play where visitors can test their skill on these vintage games and win a prize. There are also two arcades filled with vintage 2 pence arcade machines to play.There are plans to add more rides and attractions from the colleciton including the Edward’s Skid built in 1936 and the 1880 Rodeo Switchback which they hope to add in future years.The National Fairground Museum in Stotfold is open throughout the season, more details on opening times and prices can be found on their website

Dowses Fun Fairs have a sunny and successful Scunthorpe Fun Fair Rides 2025-05-20 | Dowse’s family funfairs recently finish their successful visit to ScunthorpeLocated on Manor Park the ground proves popular with locals. Good weather for the duration of the fair saw good footfall and the carpark filled to capacity particularly on the Friday night and Saturday afternoon.Although only a small local ground the fair featured quite a few changes and a UK début among its varied line up.Making the journey up from Boston May Fair was John Holdsworth’s Crazy Bulls which is a regular here and can be found at many fairs around the region through the season and was the first machine nearest the road.Matthew Dowse’s Sizzler Twist was next in the line and was proving popular with riders of all ages, and has been owned by Matthew Dowse since 2014Barron Harniess returned with his 1972 Maxwell built Waltzer which had come through from Dowse’s previous ground at Dinnington.Warren Dowse was back with his popular Miami which was regularly riding full through the dayWith Warren Dowse selling his Dodgem last year meant a change in Dodgem track at Scunthorpe. This year Royce Knowles Rock 'n' Roll Dodgems filled in. The Rock 'n' Roll Dodgems were built by Janecek Rides in 2019.Next in the line was a talking point with many was Matthew Dowse’s new Superbowl opening in the UK for the first time. The ride was built by SDC of Italy in 1991 and was getting a lot of attention from the locals.Standing on the far end was another new-comer to Manor Park. With Todd Connell selling his King Swing at the start of the season, Knowles Stratosfear was new for this year, Stratosfear was new in 2022 and was proving popular with the thrill seekers. The Stratofear mainly travels around Yorkshire but has been known to travel further afield.The tallest ride at this years fair once again, was Knowles Aviator Starflyer, standing 100 feet tall. Aviator was new just over a year ago, the red, white and blue ride really stood out in the spring sunshine.The final large machine will need no introduction to Scunthorpe with Jamie Raywood’s Planet Earth Meteorite standing out well facing towards the main entrance from the carpark. The ride still proves popular year in year out at many of its regular grounds in the region. With the close of Scunthorpe Dowses Funfairs and many of the rides including the Superbowl will make their way to Doncaster Racecourse.All rides at the Doncaster Racecourse Fair will be £2. The fair will be open every day from Friday 23rd May to Sunday 1st June 2025.

New ride 2025: Matthew Dowse unveils his SDC Superbowl at Scunthorpe Fun Fair Rides 2025-05-18 | Matthew had been looking for a new machine that would be unique to the area for the past couple of years. a Superbowl in France came up for sale which interested Matthew Dowse.After arranging to buy the machine the Superbowl arrived in their yard in March where it was built up and work started immediately to get it ready for travelling in the UK.The Superbowl was built by SDC in 1991 and is the first such SDC version to open in the UK. A design review and testing needed to be passed before it was allowed to open here.While many will be familiar with the ARM UK Touchdown, the SDC Superbowl is a bigger machine overall needing a 58 foot position. Like the ARM versions there are 10 cars seating 4 riders each giving the ride a capacity of up-to 40 riders.Matthew Dowse’s Superbowl looks imposing with its big backflash and certainly caught the eyes of spectators when the Superbowl platform has lifted to full height.Matthew Dowse’s Superbowl was proving popular with local riders in Scunthorpe. After Scunthorpe Matthew Dowse plans to take Superbowl to Doncaster Racecourse for the Whit bank holiday before heading north to The Hoppings in Newcastle one of the biggest fairs in the country in June.In time Matthew Dowse plans to improve the ride with a new folding backflash and getting the ride racked on to two trailers to make it easier to travel.Matthew Dowse hopes to travel the Superbowl far and wide in the future but for now the Superbowls planned places are at Doncaster Racecouse for 23rd May to Sunday 1st June and The Hoppings in Newcastle Friday 20th June to Sunday 29th June.

Air Raid 1 heads to England while Top Star heads to Scotland Fun Fair Rides 2025-05-08 | John-Jordan Bills and Mitchell Wilmot swap ridesIn a surprise move to many both Showmen announced the move on their social media channels yesterday. The two showland families have reached an agreement to swap Air Raid 1 and Top Star with Air Raid 1 going from Mitchell Wilmot to John-Jordan Bills and Top Star going the other way from John-Jordan Bills to Mitchell Wilmot.The Top Star is an N.A Super-Rides Superstar. New in September of 2003 for John Thurston the ride was passed on to Michael Houghton at the end of the 2008 season. While in his ownership Top Star attended many major fairs including Nottingham Goose Fair, Newcastle Hoppings, Hull Fair Knutsford Royal May Fair and Oxford St Giles. Top Star was no stranger to Scotland attending fairs and events such as Kirkcaldy Links Market, Irvin Marymass, St Andrews Lammas, Aboyne Highland Games, Black Isle Show, Bathgate Gala, Edinburgh Meadows and the Irn-Bru Carnival to name a few.The Top Star was sold to John-Jordan Bills after Knutsford Royal May Fair. In his ownership the ride travelled further south but still opened at major fairs including recently at the Peterborough Mart.With Mitchell Wilmot buying Top Star it will be the only Superstar in Scotland and the first Superstar to be owned by a Scottish Showman in over 20 years. For Wilmot Attractions the Top Star is the third major machine in as many years with Air Raid 2 in 2023, Freakout in 2024 and now Top Star in 2025!The Air Raid is a Tivoli Rides UK built Remix 2, this ride was built in 2013 for Notts & Derby showman Gary Evans. In his ownership the 4 arm machine opened at several major fairs including Star City, Great Dorset Steam Fair and Ashby De-La Zouch Statutes Fair. The ride was sold at the end of the 2015 season to Mitchell Wilmot who opened it for new years eve at Stonehaven in Scotland.In Mitchell Wilmot's ownership Air Raid opened at several major fairs including Bathgate Gala, Kirkcaldy Links Market, St Andrews Lammas, Beaconsfield Charter Fair and Hull Fair. Air Raid also spent two seasons at Alton Towers as Spin Jam as part of the Retro Squad series of rides. In more recent years the hires continued for the ride, opening at M&D’s theme park, several Indoor Funfairs and Galactic Carnival.In their ownership, John-Jordan Bills will be touring the Air Raid further south, giving the chance for many new riders to experience the ride.For both showmen their new machines are bound to prove popular with the fair going public in their areas.

Granted by royal charter in 1125 by King Henry the 1st.Originally the Boston May Fair was for trade, but entertainment has always featured as part of the fair. The modern Boston May fair is now one of the biggest pleasure fairs at this time of year, with around 20 large rides.The 900th Boston May Fair will also take in the 80th V.E Day celebrations held on 8th of May.Some of the headline rides this year are Mark Thurston’s Chaos. The KMG Freakout has proved popular with thrill seekers in Boston in recent years. Chaos is seen by many as the best presented example in the country.Two Waltzers are present at this years Boston May Fair. Bertie Holland is back with is fine example, while Albert John Evans Atmosphere Creator is back once again.
