teamspectripA Slower Speed of Light is a first-person game in which players navigate a 3D space while picking up orbs that reduce the speed of light in increments. A custom-built, open-source relativistic graphics engine allows the speed of light in the game to approach the player's own maximum walking speed. Visual effects of special relativity gradually become apparent to the player, increasing the challenge of gameplay. These effects, rendered in realtime to vertex accuracy, include the Doppler effect; the searchlight effect; time dilation; Lorentz transformation; and the runtime effect.
A production of the MIT Game Lab.

A Slower Speed of Light has been tested on computers with the following minimum requirements. (A known bug will crash the game on computers with Intel graphics chipsets.)
-Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 or Core i7 (2.8GHz minimum clock speed) -Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) -AMD Radeon HD 6970M/AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4850/Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT -8GB RAM
We have released the physics/graphics engine powering A Slower Speed of Light as and open-source project called OpenRelativity. If you'd like to use these relativistic effects in your own Unity3D projects, check it out! http://gamelab.mit.edu/research/openrelativity/

The MIT Game Lab is proud to present OpenRelativity, a set of open-source tools for simulating the effects of Einstein's special relativity in Unity3D. We hope that this toolkit will be used by developers and educators to produce more simulations and games that explore the effects of special relativity and traveling close to the speed of light. OpenRelativity accurately simulates the effects of the Lorentz Contraction, Doppler Effect, Time Dilation, and includes support for dynamic speeds of light, custom UV and IR textures, and third-party objects.
