ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN
updated
PS: I also have a webcomic. Please consider giving it a read ❤ alderwood.the-comic.org It's a fantasy comic about a wizard girl who accidentally teleports into a dude's house and it lands her a job. It's got jokes and action and Good Vibes™ if that's your thing :)
Original audio by Michael Rapaport: youtube.com/watch?v=sJeuWZNWImE
Please go check him out if you like piano/music skits; he's fantastic at what he does!
Software used:
Adobe Animate
(it's a garbage program though-- literally crashed on me over 30 times while I was working on this single animation, so please learn from my pain and don't use it.)
It's an itty-bitty spooky game made by a handful of university students and I'm very proud of it, bugs and all. If you've got any feedback or bugs to report, please leave it in the comments section of our itch.io page!
Free to play on PC (RIP Mac users)
PS it might give your computer a security warning but that's just because Windows is detecting an .exe from an unknown publisher whoops
The game itself isn't quiiiiite done yet but you can view our website here: tezcaintheshadows.itch.io/tezca-in-the-shadows

btw I mentioned that this was "one" of the last big projects before I graduate. The other one is a video game that I'm contributing to that's still in production. Keep your eyes peeled; it should be done in about a month or two.
Anyway, thanks for being patient and following this clip's journey to completion. I'll be back to my regular schedule of not-really-uploading-anything now.

I figured it might be fun to upload progress shots of current projects to show you guys some workflow stuff. This is a shot I'll be working on for the next few weeks for my senior animation class-- we were given a selection of voice lines for us to animate acting/lip sync to. So far this is only the blocking, which is why it looks like there's hella frames missing-- I've got everything set to stepped mode to make sure the individual poses read well. This helps me edit the key beats since there's a clear divide between poses, and I don't get distracted by splined movement which would otherwise muddy things up at this point.

Animated in Maya 2018.
Piece: Sarasate - Introduction and Tarantella
I've never animated a musical instrument before, so I figured I'd do some research and see if I could animate my Tiefling bard Brendan playing the violin.
We've been playing Curse of Strahd lately and it's been a blast. (no spoilers pls) I started animating this thinking "this is going to happen sooner or later" since we'd been on bad terms with the Burgomaster of Vallaki for a while, but then it ended up happening for real before I finished.
Animated in Adobe Animate (stop crashing please omfg)
I used a program called Keyframe MP to study and mark the reference.
Backgrounds were thrown together in Photoshop.
None of this was rotoscoped, but in retrospect it probably would have been smarter to do so. Instead I just heavily, HEAVILY referenced off Brett's playing.
The close-up violin bits were animated on 1s because idk why not
Most of everything else was on 2s except for when I wanted to make it feel snappy.
Audio is from The Adventure Zone (Griffin McElroy).
Software used is Autodesk Maya 2018.

The drawing program I used this time around is a free program called FireAlpaca. It's surprisingly amazing, and I highly recommend checking it out even if you already have drawing software: http://firealpaca.com/en

Note: this trick will work with a regular sentry as well, but minis are more efficient and probably won't kill you as quickly as a big sentry.
