Oxygen & Edan Live at Hedon, Zwolle CD, 2013 Viewbob 2025-08-11 | The left hand holds the mic, while the right DJ!Probably six months ago now, I stumbled upon excellent rapper, DJ, producer, b-boy, and bedroom rocker EDAN. His album Beauty and the Beat is easily a top 50 hip-hop record of all time. Sadly, in his twenty-five years in the game, he's only put out two lyrical albums, a short collab EP and lots of very abstract mixtapes. One day, trolling thru his Discogs page, I found this mysterious recording listed. A live album by excellent Long Island MC and top-tier graffiti artist Oxygen, DJed by Edan and featuring several songs of his both old and totally new!I searched for months for this CD, finding myself in PM chains with the likes of both Edan and Oxygen, DJ Muggs, and several fans who were in the right place at the right time. A common theme was that no one who owned a copy was willing to part. Not that I blame them. Finally, over vacation in OBX, I tracked down a guy who was at the show himself and got him to sell me his copy. This tape is really something special. Ox and Edan have some really fantastic chemistry together (and if their previous tape together is to be believed, they'd been rehearsing this set for at least two years). Several new songs from the legend Oxygen (as well as a great rendition of Gone Diggin'), and a great collection of Edan classics, with four totally new routines! Including finally a clean recording of the mysterious Johnny the Fox. Gny - Present [5th anniversary] (vinyl rip, 2023) Viewbob 2024-11-19 | In 2019, I found myself at a crossroads in life. College was just beginning, and as eager as I was to leave the awfulness of High School behind (and I really was excited), man, uncertainty is never fun. It was also during this time, this summer of hang time between adolescence and adulthood (allegedly) that Lo-Fi Beats channels really blew up. It might sound silly, but at the ends of these days of trepidation and excitement, I loved to unwind with the sounds of distant trains passing and Lo-Fi Beat streams. Yes, really.One of my favorite artists on these mixes was a fantastic Filipino producer named Gny. He'd just put out his third tape and I was enamored!! Some digging led me to this one, 2018's Present. It felt so groovy and soulful. Every song was so raw, so honest, so full of heart. Usually without even lyrics. Moreso, I really appreciated the anonymity, it truly is about the music and nothing more with artists like him! So, here I am, four years later and I've just graduated college. I find myself still living in the same town I spent four years exploring. No, I didn't have the anime-style blossoming of adulthood I was hoping for, but that's okay. Who has time to worry about self-issues when my man Gny is putting out an expanded vinyl pressing of Present! Through that awesome site Qrates no less! I'd always heard good things, but never got a chance to try them out. Not a fan of Vulfpeck, sorry. Maybe if you know of Qrates, you know how this turned out. May turned to June. Then to July. Before I knew it, the projected shipping date had come and gone. As had Present's fifth anniversary. The Qrates name had been rightfully smeared all across the net, people screaming for their backordered Gizz records. I remember threatening chargebacks to customer service, and even that did nothing. In truth, I didn't want my money back, I wanted my record! Ryo Fukui Quartet - Live at UNION 3/27/81 Viewbob 2024-08-25 | Here it is, folks. An ultra rare live recording of the mysterious post-Mellow Dream Ryo Fukui Quartet. For many years, there were thought to be no surviving recordings Ryo himself even turned down several recording offers as he believed that this lineup was too immature during this period.A few months ago, I found this recording broken up over several obscure Japanese language uploads. I had meant to hold this upload until after my Ryo Fukui video dropped, but I've been too busy with work to finish it up, and I felt bad holding back such fantastic music from you all.This is always the tape I crank up whilst cleaning my apartment on sunny days off.What a great recording this is, too! Halfway through, Ryo does a fantastic solo piano rendition of Mellow Dream which is just DELICIOUS. Might even beat out the Vidro '77 version for me. According to some obscure liner notes from a late-90s CD, Ryo was known to perform solo much more than with a group after his first two LPs. This wasn't for artistic reasons nearly as much as the simple fact of convenience. Still, it's fascinating to see Ryo bringing elements of his solo DNA into performances with his quartet, especially some twelve years before his mid-90s renaissance as a solo artist, as helped by numerous appearances on Hokkaido TV. Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti - House Arrest (2002, CDr rip) Viewbob 2023-12-10 | ANOTHER ONE! Some more eagle-eyed viewers of this channel might remember a character named j0rdan. Old friend of mine from Mausspace! j0rdan was a fellow hunter of rarities; he found the Appleasians 2cd among other things! Well, soon after I uploaded my Doldrums cdr, he (apparently inspired) fucking hunted down a dude who owned an original House Arrest and... bought it??? I remember j0rdan told me this a few days ago, and I believed him, but I didn't expect anything to come of it. Lo and behold, here's the rip!So, it seems like this particular disc is from 2005 (a pencil-drawn ad on the back cover says as much), but the mixing is much barer than the Paw Trax and BBP mixes! Higher and Higher is at its original pitch, and the lead guitar on the title track is less drowned in fuzz than the Paw mix. Also dig the false start on Getting High! (CD glitch?)Interestingly, this is a mono mix, but not THE mono mix we're familiar with. I suppose Ariel was still using his own burn for the CDs even after signing. Perhaps on the whole, this isn't as cool as the pre-BBP cassette, or as earthshattering as the Doldrums CDr, but GUYS, we're doing it! I've been saying for years, these CDs are out there, and we're finding them! I came to own an original CalArts Doldrums. This copy is pre-Demoboot, Pre-Bobby Pyn, even Pre-Good Kids Make Bad Grownups! This is one of the original copies distributed by Ariel for his final thesis project, which would ultimately get him kicked out. This is the same gen of copy R. Stevie was originally emailed! I never thought I'd so much as see a picture of one of these. Let alone hold one.The story of how I came to own it is actually pretty stupid. So, I was at work one day, and I opened a discord message from an old digital penpal. It was a craigslist link, and when I clicked on it, I nearly fainted. The image used as the thumbnail was the seller image. It was sold by the original owner, who stayed in the same house as Ariel for a time. He remembers meeting Ariel a few times, and though he never followed Ari after they parted ways, he really respected this LP. It was unpriced in the listing. I offered the seller $150, and he replied "that sounds correct". A few weeks later, it was in my mailbox, the day after my birthday. I almost lost it to a former AP collaborator, but you'll have to email me to hear the rest of that!As for this audio, wow. It's an entirely different mix with different endings on The Doldrums, Strange Fires, and Envelopes. Also, it may just be me, but I feel like the guitar is more present. This album works surprisingly well as a tight little EP, APHG distilled to its most prominent features. I hope you guys enjoy. Guided by Voices - Thank You Very Much for Absolutely Nothing (FULL Concert Film) Viewbob 2023-09-04 | Happy labor day to all!And what better way to commemorate this day of appreciation for the American worker than with Guided by Voices? Specifically, this rare, coveted footage of a young GBV hungry to make their mark! This video was shot at the Dayton Riverfest on May 26th, 1986, right around the release of their debut, EP Forever Since Breakfast. This captures the band right before they stopped playing live, with a wildly different lineup. Bob here sports short hair and a plaid button-up, as though he just got off teaching Elementary school. Mitch Mitchell is here on bass looking ever-so 1980s. In place of Tobin Sprout, we see early second guitarist Paul Comstock. We also have early drummer Peyton Eric, someone I never really thought a particularly great drummer, but man is he killing it! They play 16 songs (sadly the first two not captured), taking us through a cool, angular report of Bob's soul. The four boys really rock here, particularly on tracks like One Drop, She Wants to Know, Sometimes I Cry, and an excellent Dantes cover. This video is also hilarious to watch. It's very clearly someone's home footage from the show, playing with the camera negative filter a few times throughout, ending with four minutes of static, and taking detours to look at some ridiculously dressed audience members. For what it is, though, the clarity is great and the direction gives us a better look at the band than most pro-shot concert films! This is especially weird, because these days it's harder to rip only the audio from a DVD than to just rip the video as well! Like recently, I got this CIGARETTE in your Bed Live DVD and tried to make an audio copy for my DAP, and I had to put it through a file converter, and it sounded awful!Anyway, this recording captures the band at a very pivotal and different time. They were just about to stop performing live all together, and Forever Since Breakfast was only three days out from release! This four-man lineup sees a rare Bob on Guitars and Vocals. They play 5/7ths of FSB, several outtakes (including the Proto-Office of Hearts, One Drop), and two cover tunes! It's amazing to think that this quaint little bar band here would soon retreat into the basement and record the music that would blast Lo-Fi into the 90s. Fish Tank Revival - Top Picks (Full album, 2022) Viewbob 2023-03-29 | Finally! The long awaited debut LP by Fish Tank Revival! Well, okay, I'm not sure if it's a concrete LP, but I treat it like one! This tape gets a lot of play in my cassette deck. It's SO refreshingly DIY, as well! The J-Card is a crayon drawing, the tracklist and liner notes are on a folded piece of loose leaf. The tape is a sony-D60 with a handwritten sticker label. The music on this tape is so surreal and dreamy! It's got a lot of soul, something unfortunately lacking in lots of DIY music these days, every song puts a smile on my face. You can really tell Luke is making this music from his heart. Song topics range from hatred of DEVO, to heartbreak, to microwaving tinfoil and everything in-between. Luke also reaches more for his Ariel Pink roots, not only polishing-up his Baby cover, but also adding a wonderful See The Girl cover! Four of its 21 tracks are from the Debut EP (Microwave, Devo Sucks, and the aforementioned Baby cover), and the other 17 are brand new and just for you!So what are you waiting for? Fish Tank Revival - S/T EP (2021) Viewbob 2023-01-17 | A very cool tape sent to me by a friend of the channel, the first release of his new-ish musical project, Fish Tank Revival! It's curated of a few months of recordings in 2021, half of which would make it onto an LP (soon to be uploaded). It's cool stuff, very heavily inspired by AP, but that's kind of the best part? It's not just a 100% aping as many Ariel-inspired artists online are, and this is the side of the APHG sound that I love. Goopy guitars, thin mixes and psychedelic, punky, goth-adjacent songwriting. It's what acts like Geneva Jacuzzi, and Part-Time could never quite capture for me. It's comfort food for my soul, man. There's even a cover of Baby, but in this psych, guitar-led style. POWERPLANT - People In The Sun (GBA Rip, 2022) Viewbob 2022-12-05 | Listen with headphones. You just gotta.In 2019, Synth Punk outfit POWERPLANT rocked the Egg Punk world with the beautiful, bizarre, terrifying LP People in the Sun. They should have, anyway. I remember tastemakers like Harikari and Anti hailing PP as the Next Big Thing, and it just kind of never was. Hell, I listened to it, dug True Love and forgot about it. Man, I wish I hadn't, though, cause this music is something else.So, fast forward to 2022, and Powerplant teamed up with audio madd scientist Gizzmoix to re-release the album on GBA. I picked it up as soon as I could and was at first disappointed as it was just the album playing. I saw it as a novelty item. Upon a few more listens though (including a fucking SICK walk I took one day with nothing but my DS Lite and Headphones) I realized the album here is blanketed in this absolutely delectable GBA compression, which really fits. I now see this as the definitive listening experience for this LP. Shrimp Olympics - i love money (Full Album, 2019) Viewbob 2022-10-11 | I don't generally upload music that's already available elsewhere to my channel, but I've gotta make an exception for this one. It's just one of my favorite albums of all time! Recorded by a 20-21 year old Austin Lombardo, I love Money is the very point where Shrimp Olympics evolves from teenage Austin screwing around on a reel2reel, to a true titan of home recording. He employs sprawling, beautiful soundscapes, jazzy instrumentation and LOTS of overdubbing to create this wonderful, beautiful psychic soup of sorts. It's fun, rockin' and every song is catchy enough to get stuck in your head for days on end! Starting the album, the scratchy, abrasive flutes of "sun song" may take some getting used to, but the song found beneath is fantastic! The ending refrain, "trying my best for you" still randomly pops into my head from time to time four years later! The next few tracks flow into one-another, creating a sort of thematic and musical overture for the album at hand. The tracks "romantic love", a sardonic-yet-saccharinely-sappy love ballad and mission statement "australia" are two certified hits, resonant in their irreverence, but still soulful enough to form a genuine connection.Side A of the album ends with Tomato Pie, an easy-to-forget, but very fun soft rock tune.The second side picks up with the all too short "sometimes", an airy, misty-eyed song of longing. Perhaps it's only a coincidence, but the brevity of the "you came into my mind last night" refrain leaves me dearly craving more. It's Austin at his most raw, especially on such an irreverent album, and in anyone else's hands it might seem out of place, but Austin somehow manages to land it. It's a beautiful, poignant moment, and slowly fades out, the emotion washing over us. It quickly brings us back upward, with "alright where am i", "theme from a dream" and "my favorite color", three smooth jazzy pop tunes that wouldn't sound too out of place on any 1972 radio station.The tracks "wet brain" and "sometimes (reprise)" bring us two guitar-driven tracks for a change, the former being the odd choice of a lead single, and the latter a much more upbeat reworking.The album ends with its longest, most bittersweet song. The swingin' oddly tropical-flavored Plum is a song about a dying relationship and its consequences. It's a song about times of change, the fear involved, and the casualties of love. It hit me at a sort of perfect time in my life, and in fact what was in hindsight a similar time for the world as a whole. Shrimp Olympics - Soundtrack (Full Tape, 2021) Viewbob 2022-09-27 | Well, here it is!The infamous, hard to find "soundtrack" tape by Shrimp Olympics wunderkind Austin Lombardo! Truly up there in mystique with Pataphysics' fabled "We Are Eating Slime" tape, and Ariel Pink's "It's Hard To Take A Shit on Mushrooms and Speed", both of which probably don't even exist.This tape, along with the even more elusive "chopped onions" tape which I'm still tracking down, had some of its more accessible tracks put into the recent Cemetery Saddle EP. It's mostly a collection of Silk Lizard outtakes (most notably, the excellent Glove Crimes), audio experiments and other forays into plunderphonics.This rip is 1:33:37 (heh), and it's certainly a lot to take in. From the soaring highs of Glove Crimes and the new, fucked up version of Emily, to the audio art of that Norwegian Girls' Choir collage, it's beautifully bizarre, and a treasure to have in my collection. Donut Productions - Shady Side of the Donut (Full Tape, 1993) Viewbob 2022-08-11 | The long-unripped 1993 demotape of Bay Area hip-hop group Donut Productions, a group which, over the next 7 years would lose a member, gain another and become Lifeseeker! I've been curious about this tape for a long time. I've been a fan of Lifeseeker for a while now, and for the longest time had this inkling that they used to be called Donut Productions with a slightly different lineup, but not much beyond that. Well, after some digging, I found a 1995 CD called... $19.95, which reuses half the songs from this tape, and includes another 7 new tracks to form a quasi-album. I heard, after that, that their original tape was called Shady Side of the Donut and it made a big enough splash to interest the likes of Mo' Wax and Grand Royal, but it was nowhere to be found. Lots of asking around, and lots of "Yeah, I'll find that tape and digitize it sometime" was had over the next two years to no avail.A big breakthrough happened when, at the end of last year, Jimmy Gaunt interviewed Marc about Donut Productions for his Zine "The Shadow Knows" volume 2. Lots of great stuff in that interview, it covers the group's formation as Donut Posse before the name change, their linking up with Mo' Wax, their dissolution due to Marc and DJ Gunga Din's disagreements with J-Squash, and the formation of Lifeseeker. It was a great and gratifying read that also gave some more information on and pictures of this tape. A discogs page was made for it, obnoxiously labelling the tape as "Donut Posse" despite it LITERALLY SAYING DONUT PRODUCTIONS ON THE IMAGE GAAAAAAH! And it was in my wantlist forever. It was one of those things I never actually expected to get, you know? Well sure enough, this summer some guy listed it at $80 saying it was new old stock. I offered 50 and he accepted. I laughed really hard when the package came in a week later and the tape still had a $5.99 sticker on it.Still, totally elated to have this tape! Aside from the seven never-before heard tracks (starred on this upload), some of the released tracks are different! Donut Pros has a whole extra verse cut off of the final, and Fly the Coop is missing some overdubs (I think???). I'm sure there's more, but I couldn't find them on first listen. Gary Supply - Cliff Wageman and the Wageslaves Wage War (Full tape rip, 2018) Viewbob 2022-06-14 | I love this tape.I have a very personal history with Gary Supply. They were one of my favorites in the 'egg punk' scene for a long while! I always loved their DIY, almost supergroup-esque ethos (being a band of four very different indie musicians all combining their styles) and even interviewed them for my Zine that I never did make a second issue of.I found out about them in early 2018, when I was recommended an Anti upload of their 2017 tape Gary Goes To Hell. At the time, it was kind of this legendary single tape by this enigmatic band, especially because it had been over a year. A year was an insanely long time in the very fast paced scene back then. Anyways, I fell in love with the tape, so I went to the bandcamp link and was HORRIFIED to find the tape sold out! Aaaaah! I emailed them like two or three times, and they finally got back to me saying they'd make more and had another album in the works. I'd like to think I played a part in the band waking up from their proverbial slumber. I got in the Gary Goes to Hell tape and waited anxiously for the forthcoming album. It finally released, and god it was incredible (this here tape). I pre-ordered a copy the day it released and got a copy kissed with pink lipstick on Side B. You also may notice the artwork is a misprint, missing "Hollow Bones" (Gotta was a sort-of hidden track). So like, Gary Supply never made super great dubs of their tapes (well, they were actually way better than most Egg Punk tapes you'd buy at the time, tapes usually dubbed by kids who thought tapes were cool but never actually used them), but still, their dubs were kind of shitty. Gary has always been kinda lo fi, but the tapes even more so. I love it though. This cassette just sounds so warpy and melty, and it makes the deliciously-angsty "Die-Electric" sound even HEAVIER (although the cool keyboard solo in it is barely audible here. Alt mix? Who knows). Gary Supply would go on to release one more tape, Agit-Pop which was kind of meh. Even at the time, all I could muster to comment on the bandcamp release was "Yay! More Gary!". It's not like, bad, but it's kind of forgettable and is even lower-fidelity, crossing the line of cool and just sounding kinda muddy. After that, the band went on hiatus due to the band's personal lives. They digitally released their rare demotape (in anyone has a copy, please get in touch) and then last year put out an anthology tape which went completely under my radar! I dunno, I guess I just miss these guys, and the egg scene as a whole. The Resource Network - Chewed Out! (Live) UPGRADED Re-rip Viewbob 2022-05-26 | Back in May of 2019, the Summer Demo was uploaded by a then-contemporary punk group called The Resource Network. Side A, the studio side, was uploaded to bandcamp, and side B, the live side was left tour-only. The YouTube upload of the studio side had their tour schedule, which I anxiously scanned for a date near me. Sure enough, there was one date at The Glove in Brooklyn (R.I.P), and I dragged my Dad out to see it. It was a wild night, and I got two tapes out of it, including the one you're hearing right now. Unfortunately, it was kind of blown-out, and the rip I posted up here sounded way too bassy (not helped by the shitty ripping I was doing back then). This really sucked considering the live songs have never had digital mixes posted.Anyway, it's now 2022 because Covid timeskipped us all two years, and Chewed Out is still a favorite song of mine. Seriously, if you live in Mid-LI, you've probably heard me screaming along to this song as it blasts out my car stereo. Wonder why my hearing sucks so much, oh well. "Weed King" here was a digital bonus track for Get Out Of My Stations (incorrectly dated as 1992), and an (albeit much lower quality) VHS recording of the whole set can be seen on YouTube. I've always wanted to hear this AMAZING version of On The Tundra in better quality, but it just wasn't out there. Thanks to an anonymous friend of the channel, though, we've finally got the soundboard! Gosh, it's all so good here! On The Tundra just sounds gorgeous like this, and the band has so much energy. We've got some Propeller classics, a few songs from their then-brand-new album Vampire on Titus, a few B-Sides and even some new songs planned for their double album Instructions to the Rusty Time Machine (which would eventually evolve into Bee Thousand)! I read about this months ago on some old GBV fansite and found a few old forum posts discussing the bootleg, but had lots of trouble finding it. I finally got it, though! According to Setlist FM, this recording comes from a show on October 20th, 1997 at Bimbo's 365 in SF! The balls on these guys to bust out Ambergris, eh? Long Live Bob Pollard!

Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti - Live at a House Party in Northridge (2007) Viewbob 2022-02-09 | This bootleg's been around for quite some time now. I first found it in probably 2017 (just in time for the 10th anniversary!), after finding the tracklist on Allmusic. I eventually found the audio on Soulseek and have literally NEVER found it again. I wonder if the uploader had any other goodies we'll never hear. Will we ever hear the full BBC '05 set? Doubtful.Regardless, this is a great record in time for Ariel. Here we see a very early, stripped-down lineup of a proper Haunted Graffiti band, this one with live beatboxing! The first incarnation of the band was formed in January '07, so I can't imagine they'd been around for very long by this point. I wonder if the beatboxing was special for this party. There's a lot of talking between songs from Ariel, something relatively rare for him. It's nice to see him interacting with the audience in such a friendly way. The setlist is really fantastic, a good mix of Worn Copy classics, as well as Doldrums hits, plus a very cool cover of Earth, Wind and Fire. Third Eye Butterfly - What The Thunder Said (Full Tape, 1991) Viewbob 2022-01-23 | Found this at a thrift store on the brink of closure in August 2021 and the owner gave it to me for free. I feel bad for the people running it. In only a few years, they came and went with little fanfare, but I made some pretty good finds there. This tape is a demo by shortlived 90s Power Pop group Third Eye Butterfly. There's very little info about them around, but looking on discogs they seem to have three other 7"s from '93 to '95 released on this same imprint. Shame they really went nowhere, cause some of this stuff isn't half bad! The tracks "Play With The Rainmaker" and "Where Are We" are my personal favorites. Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti Live in Milan 2011 Viewbob 2021-11-27 | Found this set on Soulseek! It was amazingly hidden in a folder full of super common recordings. This one has a great set, and the fact that it's broken up into three 20-minute blocks makes me think it's from a TV channel. Not sure if this recording has been readily on YouTube, but it's the first time I've seen it. And what a set it is! House Arrest tracks, some (then) current songs, Witchhunt Suite, and the centerpieces, Oceans of Weep, followed by One on One. A really great recording of such a rare performance! It's from that not-very-well-documented but extremely cool period between Before Today and Mature themes where Ariel seemed to not quite know what to do, and was basically trying everything out. Seems like the band is having fun, too. Ariel's acting all energetic, and they're laughing together, not to mention playing tapes of his music in-between! "The house of yesterday" written 1967 by Inner Sanctum! Played back in Summer 2016 by Ariel on a WFMU radio show (then subsequently bootlegged by me as "A Heap of Rotting Tapes"), this is the one mystery that never got solved in the remasters. I haven't forgotten. I remember when SLUGBUG first told me there was a song called "House of Yesterday" on Ods 2, I got super excited, because it sounds like the refrain to this song says "...in the house of yesterday", but alas it was some post punk thing. Can we summon Ollux Patemax again? He knew Nile Pan was one of the songs before that even got found!

Zack Benlan - Pickled Zack Concentrate (Full album, 2021) Viewbob 2021-09-28 | Heeeeere we go! YES! YESSS! The new album from Zackariah "Zack Benlan" Benlan. Well, kind of album. It's a collection of short fragments from his legendary 2020-2021 SLiME sessions (RIP Wian Brilson). Supposedly, ZL. Benlan here recorded some 120 demos in this time! These are just a few of those demos, included here are mostly fragments, a continuing leitmotif called "Coming Back 2 U", and even two finished songs! Seriously, though, Zack is one of my favorite musicians producing music right now (RIP to the Egg Punk scene), and this minialbum is just so fun! I keep starting and stopping production on a video about Zack, but I think to sum up my thoughts, it just feels so good to have a pure expression of the WEIRD and WACK(y)! It's a compilation of Oh Oh Ecstasy demos 2010-2013, mostly unheard. You can really see the evolution of the sound from surf rock to OOX's brand of psych shoegaze here! Hammy Whammy especially, the intro to The Pain is not yet a noise experiment, and still a rock jam. The last two songs here are apparently from Pete's previous band with Chris Elmer, "Shoes Off Rule". Also I believe "Moment of Clarity" is post-Nightlife. Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti - Be Good 2 Your Parents (official unofficial demaster) Viewbob 2021-08-14 | All kneel as we salute the man SLUGB/UG! The technician behind ripping/remastering the Ariel Archives says that Ariel wanted to "finish" the song for the remaster--I.E. adding the synthbass and drumtrack, but SLUGGY-B saw fit to make a "bootleg" mix where he remastered it in line with the I'm Not A Genius EP version. Included is a period picture of Ariel.
