I LIKE YOU - BAKUDEKU ANIMATIC Baylee! 2021-05-13 | Well I’m a little late getting into BNHA, aren’t I? I’ve had my eye on it for its art style alone since I first saw Horikoshi’s work, but never actually bothered to read it. Suddenly though I just felt compelled to, in part because of how GOOD the art is, and in part because I really thought Katsuki looked like a cool character and I wanted to know more about him.Glad I did! I love Horikoshi’s art and characters very much, and while there are plenty of flaws with the writing and treatment of various other elements of the story, I really appreciate BNHA overall. That being said, I’ve actually only read the manga thus far, and haven’t started the anime yet. I did watch Heroes Rising though, and have seen various clips here and there, like Deku and Kacchan’s 2nd fight (very beautiful animation, by the way!).The best part about the series is definitely the characters, with such fun personalities and dynamics. Of course, Katsuki’s my favorite, but Deku is a close second! Also a big fan of Mina, Denki, Eijirou, Aizawa, All Might, Hawks, and Mirko. Honestly, all the students minus Mineta are great. I even really like reading about Endeavor’s atonement as a father. I like the running theme of being able to change and do better, despite what you may have done in the past. Doesn’t change the past or make it okay, but it’s not too late to start to fix your current actions.ANYWAY! All that aside, for this animatic in particular I definitely took Horkoshi’s “taking/offering someone’s hand” symbolism and ran with it. It’s such a good part of Deku and Kacchan’s narrative, from how their relationship started to fall apart to how it’s begun to mend itself back together. Katsuki learning to understand and accept Deku’s hand, while also offering his own as he grows to want to save and support Deku just as Deku has always done for him, even when he may not have deserved it. They can hold each other up and be better together. Also, I just love drawing hands and getting to draw these two holding hands a bunch was a treat to myself lmaoTheir relationship is definitely the most interesting from the series in my opinion, and I’m VERY excited to see where they’ll go from where they are in the current manga arc. Katsuki’s development as a character alone is fantastic, and because of his development as an individual who now sees his own flaws and is working to atone for his past mistakes, it’s also immensely satisfying to see Deku get what he’s always wanted out of Katsuki as a result- that being his friendship and trust! For Deku, I can’t imagine how good that must feel, to finally have the person you’ve admired your whole life finally understand you and stand as your equal. He also gets to see Katsuki be the hero he’s always known he could be, because he’s always had the skill, and now he’s got the heart to match.I just want them to be close again. Let ‘em hug it out, let ‘em be the best heroes together! (The win to save/save to win/two sides of the same coin symbolism that they have is so good, btw) This is getting long. Guess I needed to dump my thoughts on the series somewhere, since I’m not really in the fandom or anything. I just read the manga and liked it, so I made an animatic about it because I was fiddling with Toon Boom and got too attached to the idea once I started it. Presto Animation Test (& Art Process!) Baylee! 2025-03-01 | Hello again! I’m back with a mini animation/animatic!If you aren’t familiar, this is my character Presto (Feat. Kestrel, Jin, Pitt, and Lark!). And if you’d like to see that too, I hope you’ll continue to support the Gang on their journey. :DThe audio is from “Wolf’s Rain” which I have never actually seen, but I AM a fan of the voice for this character, because he’s the same person who voiced Tai in the first season of Digimon! Joshua Seth has such an iconic voice, I think most people have probably heard him in SOMETHING over the years.Regardless, I always thought that a voice like his would be a fun fit for Presto, even as a kid. Something boyish and improper. Davis from Digimon 02 ALSO has a voice I find fitting for that reason!Since this particular audio clip fit Presto’s context better than some of the other voice clips I was considering using, I went with it!But fitting or not, this is not a ‘canon’ event in the story. It was just an animation test that got wildly out of control when I kept adding onto it instead of just doing a rough sketch animation like I TOLD myself I would.But despite being a liar, this was still a great opportunity to practice… kind of everything all at once! Ain’t it crazy the amount of work that goes into 10 seconds of screen time?There’s some flaws in the animation that I’d love to fix, but that’s for the next project! Can’t sink too much time into every little thing you know?Oh right, I animated this in Procreate! Some people are curious about that sort of thing so I thought I’d mention it. It’s harder to animate in a program that’s not actually really MEANT for animation, but I made it work and it was fun! Coloring is a bitch when I use textured brushes like this though lmao but I love how it looks so we suffer for the causeYou can see how MESSY my first passes are too. I straight-aheaded this shit so you can see me fall into the trap of my drawings growing slightly larger and larger as I go, so I had to adjust all that for the final version. You Dont Know Me - A DKBK Animatic Baylee! 2024-05-28 | I FINALLY FINISHED THIS, PLEASE TAKE IT FROM MY HANDS!Ah! I’ve been chipping away at this for a few months now, in between other projects, so it’s taken significantly longer to finish than normal. PLUS I actually integrated a few moments of actual animation this time and not just boards, so that added to it. It really was mostly the inconsistency at which I worked on it, though! Normally I LOCK IN and fixate on one project at a time, but I had to squeeze room in for this one.Worth it though! I learned SO SO much from this one, I’m very happy to think of how my workflow can improve from here. I also had fun! Except for coloring it, since I truly, truly despite adding flat color to things, it is so boring- and bad for my wrist!Anyway. YES this is a song from Victorious LMAO, but you know what’s so wild is that I got this idea in the first place when one day I thought to myself, “Hey, remember that solo song from Victorious with Liz Gillies? I remember that being really good, let me listen to it again!” Only to find out that the studio recorded version kinda fuckin’ SUCKS? How they managed that, I have no idea, but the production is bare bones and the vocals are tamed WAY down compared to the show-version. But even the show version didn’t slap as hard as I remember!Thankfully, the Youtuber @ ConnerMainChannel made a REALLY GOOD remix of the song, even mixing in the better vocals! As soon as I heard this version, I was inspired to actually make this animatic. So thank you so much for making this remix! These two love each other so dearly, it’s crazy. I am so happy to see so many smiling Kacchans, he’s been so open and free, I love him! I’m waiting for Izuku to let the weight fall off his shoulders, next. He’s going through so much, I’m just waiting for it all to come out and for him to be able to smile and be open, too. I have high hopes! We’ll see how it all plays out.Despite saying all of that, this particular animatic I wanted to focus on Kacchan’s initial resistance against Izuku. How he pushed him away their whole lives, denying them both the connection that they cannot sever, and basically just pretended that he didn’t care about Izuku, or that Izuku couldn’t possibly understand him the way that he does.But slowly, Kacchan can’t resist their bond any longer, and he accepts that Izuku not only KNOWS him, but is the one who knows him BEST. Afterall, Kacchan is the one who knows Izuku best, too (and in current canon, he’ll make SURE everyone knows it, which is so funny I love you Kacchan).It’s all self-explanatory, of course. I just love their relationship and its little nuances so! Also tsundere Kacchan will always be charming, it adds to his princess-ness.And you’ll notice my shameless self-promotion in the beginning and end of the video, where I advertise my webcomic again! Uncooked - Presto & the Gang Baylee! 2024-05-02 | Just a fun little thing I wanted to make! :DFor anyone unfamiliar with the Gang: the raccoon is named Sunny, the fox with the bowtie is Renee, the rabbit is Calypso, and the cat is Lumina.Characters all belong to me. You can learn more about them by reading my webcomic, Presto & the Gang! Or, well, you can learn about Sunny right now, since we haven't gotten to the chapters with the girls, yet. But we'll get there, and you'll love 'em, I promise! I update every Monday and Thursday!Audio is from Persona 5, when you get dialog between the characters as you drive around Mementos. This one was always one of my favorites lmaoThe voices aren't exactly what I have in mind for... pretty much any of these guys! But they're not totally off, either. I think Ann as Calypso is pretty cute and maybe somewhat in the ballpark for her, and Futaba!Lumina is also charming in its own way. Still, not quite what I fully imagine for either of them.Renee is way off haha, but I do love Makoto's voice a lot! Ryuji's voice is also a favorite of mine, but Sunny doesn't quite sound like him, either.Anyway! I made this mostly because I wanted to do a bit of experimenting without throwing myself into a huge project to do so. Mostly coloring and stuff that I wanted to mess around with, which is why Sunny gets the whole highlighting/shading treatment, and the girls are flat colored.Basically, I wanted to see what more detailed compositing would look like vs flat color, which would be used more often in both the comic and animated works due to how much more time/effort has to go into adding shading and lighting to each frame/panel. I really want to get better at choosing color palettes and making the flat colors look satisfying without needing the extra fluff to pretty it up! I think colors have always been my weakest ability in art and I really really want to change that.I'll get there! This was fun! I finished this video a couple months ago, and I've been getting my comic pages ready at the same time, and now I'm FINALLY able to launch everything! It feels amazing to share something so important to me. I hope you guys will love it!!Presto & the Gang has always been meant to be a fully animated cartoon series. Making this little mock-intro was a fun way for me to give you all a glimpse of what that may look like! Ready for another too long description?Okay, so first off: Sorry for the quality of the speedpaint footage! I ended up using the Clip Studio canvas record feature for this, despite the fact that I ALSO recorded all ~15 hours of this illustration, myself, with Streamlabs, too.I didn’t use that better quality footage because, despite being more crisp to look at, 15 hours is still 15 hours. And that DOES NOT look good when sped up to the degree that I need it to be while still being watchable. Plus, with the way that I draw, I zoom in and out a lot, and flicker between layers, and it just creates a visual mess that I worry may be dangerous or at least unpleasant for some viewers.So I sacrificed the quality of that version, and tried to just zoom in on the areas I was working on manually with the Clip Studio recorded version.Let me know what you think of THAT if you have any sort of opinion on it. Maybe even suggestions, or if you would prefer to have the Streamlabs recorded versions instead, and maybe just… dealing with the longer length that it would cause the videos to be.This was ALSO a first for me doing a video completely unscripted. I did try to script this at first, but I always end up feeling more stiff than I'd like when I do that. I DO like to script things, but I always end up making it too long and then when I have to read it outloud, I'm not having fun anymore. But, by doing it THIS way, I finally DID have fun during the recording part! Can I Draw ALL of MHAs Class 1-A From MEMORY? Baylee! 2023-01-25 | Never thought I’d upload an hour long video, but I guess I’m just full of surprises, even to myself!I got across most of what I needed to say in the video, itself, but one thing I will add here is that I am sorry that the footage for the speed paints don’t always sync up to the aspects I’m describing! I have an erratic manner of drawing sometimes, and pairing that with speeding up hour-long videos into just a handful of minutes, each, makes it pretty impossible to sync without cutting things for time.I figured it was more important to show me drawing the whole thing, rather than trying to chop up the bits I was talking about to my voice over. Let me know what you guys would prefer, still! I did actually try recording LIVE at first, drawing and speaking at the same time, but it still took too much time to try and chop up that I decided to add voiceover afterwards to keep things simple.I’m still getting the hang of making videos like this- I gotta work on my voice over and mic settings still, probably need a better overlay and visual editing style… but I do think that the ‘quality’ of presentation is ultimately less important to me than the fact that I simply made something I wanted to make in the first place. Who cares about professional quality if I’m just here to indulge in the things that I like with people who ALSO like the things that I like?I’ll still try my best to improve these aspects- but I’m really not worried about them, since I want making these videos to be FUN for me, more than anything else.Hopefully this was fun for you guys too! He Calls You Kacchan - A BKDK Animatic Baylee! 2022-08-17 | It's finally done! I've been chipping away at this for several months by now, and I'm very happy to have finished it up. I learned a LOT during this process, and I'm looking forward to implementing all that in future projects. :DSo! For context, this video is a storyboarded sequence from a previously published fic that I wrote, myself. I wanted to board an entire scene, rather than just little bits and pieces like my previous music videos. And I thought, 'Well, I've already written a whole ass fanfic, I might as well just take a scene from there' and that's how I got here!I chose a scene that had talking as well as action, so I could try to practice both at once. It's tough, but it's fun, and I can tell I can do a lot better in the future!Sorry for the somewhat strange audio though! I didn't want to just have the whole thing be silence, but I didn't know WHAT to put in it's place since I don't have any voice actors or music making skills at the moment. So I thought I might as well practice some... audio editing, if you can call this that! And I just spliced together some free sound effects and Sonic the Hedgehog music that I thought fit the scenes relatively well lmaoI figure, if the sound isn't all that great, people can just watch the video on mute and get the same picture. But if you don't want dead silence, you've got options too!As for what's happening in the manga right now... I believe Kacchan will get his chance to shine, just like Horikoshi said he would, so I'm not worried! He really is so cool though isn't he? My Sonic Art Journey Baylee! 2022-05-25 | Hi everyone! New kind of video coming from me, huh?For anyone curious about my intentions and plans for the future: I want more practice drawing, writing, and boarding things, and I think growing this channel by making multiple types of videos gives me lots of opportunities to work on projects that I care about.Like mini passion projects, or just little discussions about things I like. Mostly I want to keep things art/writing focused, and by making videos I’m getting a lot of practice for various skill done at once! Things like being able to express my ideas effectively through writing and speaking, drawing well but quickly, and editing videos and audio, all bundled into little projects. My goal is to improve myself, and have fun!I’m not aiming to be a storytime animator, but I will say that there’s absolutely inspiration in the general format of this video from there. But I don’t plan on making videos specifically about my personal life, unless it’s a little anecdote pertaining to whatever I’m already talking about (like I did here!).I would really like to focus on the art and writing aspects of things, and that’s why I started with a video about my art progression in a specific area. I thought it’d be fun to talk about something dear to me, and better allow me to understand how I got where I am!For those who maybe want a sneak peek into my next video plans, I’ve got a couple of ideas. I might get a speed paint of some sort out next, but then after that I’ll hopefully have a bigger storyboarded project that I’m woking on completed. Sonic the Hedgehog: POSTER SPEEDPAINT Baylee! 2021-02-05 | Hey I'm back! Not sure how many of you are interested in speedpaints, but I figured this would be a fun little video to show my illustrating process. Everything was done in Procreate, including the timelapse recording!Actually, I was thinking of making this piece a print/poster that you can buy, if anyone was interested in that! GOLDEN - A Shadow and Silver Animatic Baylee! 2020-07-27 | My first fully colored animatic! Not sure if I'll do it again, but it is nice to see the final result like this. There are some areas I wish I could've slowed down on and let things breathe, but the song moves fast so I made do with what I got. Overall, it was good practice, as usual!Anyway! Shadilver is a dynamic that I really think deserves more attention, because their few interactions are really interesting, and their respective roles create a lot of parallels that I would love to see expanded upon in canon. This animatic is basically just a re-imagination of their moments in '06, with a little bit of extra at the end.Basically, at the end of '06 when the candle gets blown out and everyone is supposed to lose their memories because none of it actually happened, Shadow and Silver still feel that something's missing, and Silver is still in the present, not the future. As they explore Soleanna during the festival, they find each other again, and immediately feel the connection that they formed before. It's up to interpretation if they remember anything specific, I guess! I just love the idea of them finding solace in each other.Fun fact: When I was first scripting this animatic, I was gonna try to make it about a fanfic I wrote about these two, but I found some of the lyrics fit too well with what canonically went down in '06 to pass up, so I got this instead! The whole idea started with the visual I got of Triple S when I heard golden 3X, and a lot of the lyrics ended up fitting Silver.Thank you so much for watching (and reading)! Hundred Days (and Im still alive) - SPIDEYPOOL ANIMATIC Baylee! 2020-01-06 | Just like last time, I want it to be clear that this is COMIC SPIDEYPOOL from the 616 universe where Wade and Peter are both grown adults. This has nothing to do with any cinematic versions of the characters.And just for future reference: I straight up hate MCU Spider-Man/Tom Holland's adaptation, personally speaking. I do not make content for it or the MCU in general. It's okay if you like that adaptation, just know that it is not the only version of Peter that exists and not all Spider-Man content is related to the MCU, especially mine.---All that aside, I'm back! Yet another Spideypool animatic, because I wanted to visualize some ideas I had floating around after first hearing this song, and I also wanted to try and improve from the last time. I think I’ve definitely improved since the first one, but there still plenty of stuff I need to work on still. Either way, it was practice for me in multiple areas, and I got to share an idea of mine rather than just let it sit in my mind forever, so it’s worth it, no matter the flaws I perceive it to have. It took a little over 2 months total for me to complete I think?In this one I just kinda wanted to show off some aspects of Spideypool that I like, including their similarities, how they can help each other grow as people, and what a good team they make together overall.They're a perfect example of nature vs. nurture, with Wade being a good man at heart who became roughened by his circumstances, and Peter who was a more selfish man before learning to be more responsible for his actions. They have a lot to teach each other, and have developed a genuine friendship that I think has a lot of positive potential for the both of them. Of course on their exterior they share a sense of humor and similar fashion sense for red leather and spandex, but for me what truly makes them work is their capacity to understand one another.OH and also, just for clarity's sake, the bullets Wade is using in this video are rubber bullets, so that's why they bounce off of Green Goblin rather than kill him. I just worried that people may be confused why Peter would be okay with Wade shooting people or why the bullets weren't "working", so now you know! It's a compromise on Wade's part to keep using his weapons to fight, just non-lethally.Thanks for letting me ramble, and I hope you enjoyed the video!
I Wanna Waste My Time On You - A Moomin and Snufkin ANIMATIC Baylee! 2019-06-16 | I'm back with another animatic! This time it's Moomin themed, because I got this idea literally in the dead of night and knew I had to make it. It took a lot less time than the Spideypool one, mostly 'cause I really had to crunch to get it done before I get busy with other things in a couple days. Also, because Snufkin and Moomin are way easier to draw haha!Don't worry though, I still have PLENTY Spideypool ideas that I want to create for you guys, but they're definitely more difficult to make and I just don't have the time right now.Overall, while there are some parts of this that I'm not entirely happy with, I'm proud of myself for getting it done at all in the timeframe I did. Would You Be So Kind? (Spideypool Animatic) Baylee! 2018-12-24 | First and foremost, I want it to be clear that this is COMIC SPIDEYPOOL from the 616 universe where Wade and Peter are both grown adults. This has nothing to do with any cinematic versions of the characters.That being said, this is the longest animatic I’ve ever completed! I have a habit of starting projects and never finishing, so I really pushed myself to get this done and I really feel like I've learned a lot from it. Not super long, but it took a couple of months of on and off work, so you can kind of see my progress through the quality of some of the frames. While it's not perfect and I wanted to push more interesting angles and stuff, this whole thing didn't have a lot of pre-planning and is pretty much just a straight shoot with little changes to my original ideas. I definitely broke some camera rules here and there, but I'm learning and I'm satisfied knowing that I've gotten better from this project.I hope you like it, and honestly I hope it reads clear enough to tell what’s going on! It makes sense to me, but I realize that the song moves very quickly so sometimes the beats of the story are probably easy to miss.ALSO! I'm sorry the quality is so pixelated, I'm not quite sure how to fix that or why Youtube's quality appears lower than it actually is.--STORY:Wade and Peter are going on regular patrols and team ups, being amazing friends and all that, when Wade starts a habit of taking his mask off when they just sit and talk together as a sort of trust thing (He also has a huge ass crush on Spider-Man, obviously). Peter at first is still protective of his own identity and only lifts his mask up to reveal his mouth, but eventually decides that he trusts Wade and wants to be fair by finally revealing his identity. Wade is overjoyed, and they start to hang out even in their civilian lives and eventually they get close enough for Peter to make the first move and kiss Wade.
