RyanHansenSpaceSpaceX is gearing up for the most ambitious milestone yet for the Starship development program by attempting to catch the Superheavy booster minutes after pushing a Starship above the atmosphere. The first attempt will take place during Starship Flight 5, slated to launch in October 2024. While catching the world's largest booster sounds insane, this video attempts to explain the systems that will be involved and how they function. Hopefully, this can provide some clarity and ease some concerns prior to the big day.

Near the end of completion, I became aware of inaccuracies with the catch location and other details which drove me to hold back releasing this animation to the public. Since Booster 12 was successfully caught by the tower and there are thousands of videos available of it I feel better releasing this inaccurate animation to the public. I strive to produce the best work I can and don't want to willingly put out misinformation if I can prevent it. With that said, check out my other work for more accurate Starship content!

I had never had issues before so the early lighting and engine lens flares must have made the camera freakout. I was unable to change it while recording but it got better on descent.
On Sunday October 13th, 2024 SpaceX launched Starship for the fifth test flight. This launch had the chance to include the most ambitious objects yet, catching the Super Heavy booster with the launch tower, provided that all systems checked out during the flight. A few minutes after liftoff, Booster 12 entered a glide that put it on a trajectory to intercept with the launch site. It then successfully completed the first ever catch of a rocket booster. How SpaceX Will Catch Super Heavy PreviewRyanHansenSpace2024-10-11 | ...SpaceX Super Heavy Booster Stacking #elonmusk #rocket #spacex #starship #animationRyanHansenSpace2024-07-11 | ...Starship Flight 4 | Hype AnimationRyanHansenSpace2024-06-04 | The SpaceX Starship vehicle is preparing for its fourth test flight slated to occur on June 6th 2024. This collection of entirely computer-generated scenes depicts the morning leading up to the launch and highlights some stunning visuals expected during the fourth launch attempt.

Starship is a highly ambitious rocket design with many critical systems that have to work together perfectly in order for the aspiring goal of full and rapid reusability to become reality. Will the vehicle successfully make it past the grueling dynamics of MaxQ or will a single issue set off a cascade of failures leading to disappointment?

This project has been a massive undertaking with many artists from around the world all having a hand in crafting it. Work on this project lasted nearly 9 months from conceptual design to final cutting and scoring. I would not have been able to finish this without the assistance and support provided by the Artists of Spaceflight group members. I want to thank everyone who had a hand in making this a reality and anyone else who helps support and share this film through social media. Lastly and most importantly, I want to thank everyone at SpaceX working to design and innovate the future of spaceflight. Your passion and dedication for making life multi-planetary will inspire generations to come.
I am working hard at creating every major component of the Mechazilla tower so that I can produce a one-stop-shop animation covering all the mechanisms and their operation. Expect this in the coming weeks!
Music - "The City of Hope" by BorrtexBehind the Render | Lift of Super Heavy: Booster 4RyanHansenSpace2022-02-04 | Are you curious how my animation called "Lift of Super Heavy: Booster 4" was created? Well here is a behind-the-scenes look at the workflow and effort that goes into making an animation like that. This is only a glimpse at all the work involved but it should help those unfamiliar with animating 3D objects start to understand the process that is involved. Hundreds of keyframes control moving objects from multiple files all in one main scene happening in real-time. Camera angles and motions are controlled in the same exact way.
**Some assets not pictured are still WIP and will be added in future content**
Music - "Just Jump" by Ian PostPrototype Starship Payload Door Operation AnimationRyanHansenSpace2022-01-28 | SpaceX has begun constructing a new prototype payload door for the Starship vehicle at Starbase. This new hardware is the first time that we have seen in detail the direction that SpaceX is looking to go with the door operation. All previous door indications were just a cutout of the ring segments. After studying all of the visible hardware and weld marks I created this concept of the basic door operation. The locking pins down both sides of the door suggest that the door must slide upwards to unlock. In addition, these locks allow for structural rigidity to be preserved when the door is shut. Only after the door slides up to unlock can it be rotated out of the way. The hinge mechanism is the biggest unknown at this point and I gave my best effort designing something that seems realistic. It makes far more sense to have the hinge at the base of the door rather than at the top. To be clear, this door seems to be an early pathfinder and if used will only be used for initial flights of Starlink V2 satellites aboard Starship. This door design will likely change in the future as suggested by Elon himself. I believe the curvature of the nose cone presents challenges for the door which is why this prototype door does not include the nose cone yet. There are many more potential door designs that could be tried in the future all having significant tradeoffs.
Music - "The Process" by Kevin GrahamLift of SpaceX Super Heavy Booster 4 AnimationRyanHansenSpace2022-01-19 | The first use of the SpaceX Starbase Starship Super Heavy launch tower's multipurpose "Mechazilla" arms is right around the corner with Super Heavy Booster 4 slated to be the first full-size vehicle prototype to be lifted by the tower systems to the orbital launch mount. This animation depicts what that operation may look like including all steps to lift, translate, and rotate the booster into position. The tower motions depicted in this animation are dramatized and I do not expect the real operation to be performed this quickly.
