125th Westminster Dog Show (Part 1 w/commercials) USA, 2/5/2001 Analog Trash 2025-07-08 | I found this on an unmarked VHS tape, researched it and found the air date. It's 2 and a half hours long and I had to record it over two blank DVDs. It was going to take more than four hours to link the videos in Movavi Video Editor too, so I just decided to upload it in two parts. At least I'm done uploading things in seven parts.I never watched these dog shows growing up, but I remember how annoyed I got when they would reschedule WWF Raw for one of these things.

FOX Commercials - Rocky Horror Picture Show ~ Oct. 25, 1993 Analog Trash 2025-06-23 | On October 25, 1993, Fox aired a live showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, one of those showings with audience participation and such. These are all the commercial breaks. I snuck a little bit of the live audience here and there but I don't want to get in trouble showing too much of it. You might see the whole thing on Internet Archive soon; someone else had it uploaded there but there were no commercials. When I grabbed this tape at the thrift store all it said was "Rocky Horror Picture Show", it could have been a boring taping from HBO but I took a chance, and I'm glad I did.Anyway, this is a nice time capsule of 1993. I'm particularly fond of the Simpsons bumpers and the Sega Game Gear commercials. If it wasn't for the battery life that would have been better than Game Boy and its spinach-green screen. I'd be getting my Sega Genesis for Christmas in a couple months, which I still have today.
The Power of Myth with Joseph Campbell - Love and the Goddess (audio cassette, 1988) Analog Trash 2025-06-01 | Also co-starring Bill Moyers. I don't go out looking for Bill Moyers, I'd never even heard of him before starting this channel, he just finds me. This audio tape was inside the case of a blank tape at the thrift store, the original case long gone. It's part five apparently, but this is the only tape in the series I have. In it, Joseph Campbell explores the feminine side of spirituality which was largely lost after monotheism took over, and ponders what the world might have been like if we started our prayers with "Our Mother, who art in heaven."
Store Security Camera Footage (Date Unknown) Analog Trash 2025-05-25 | Another curious thrift store discovery on an unmarked tape. I'm not sure what kind of store this is. I see an exercise machine, ads for laundry soap and a VCR, it's hard to say. I waited to see if anything interesting would happen. At around the 2:20 mark the lights turn off and for the next couple minutes three employees leave the store, but nothing much of note after that. No burglars or ghosts, unfortunately. A VCR for $8.99 and free laundry soap though, what a deal.
Primetime Commercials ~ CBS, NBC and Fox (February 26, 1992) Analog Trash 2025-05-19 | Consider this a belated 1,000 subscriber special. Thanks everyone for your support! There will be a part 2 to this one.This tape was a collection of primetime sitcoms, plus an episode of Cops. I got the date from the airdate of first sitcom on the tape, Season 2 Episode 8 of the short-lived show "Davis Rules" (my first time hearing of it), which aired on CBS for its second and final season after NBC cancelled it. Other commercials were taken from airings of The Cosby Show (NBC), Cheers (NBC), and Cops (Fox). I only got halfway through the tape, so there will be more to come.
Humanism: Making Bigger Circles (1986) Analog Trash 2025-05-12 | Isaac Asimov makes an appearance on this documentary about humanism, the chief philosophy of Unitarian Universalism. This was on one of those recorded blanks I got from the library of a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Funny how the more things change the more they stay the same, isn't it? What with those bigots answering interview questions at the beginning. I was an infant when this was filmed, now I'm almost 40, and they still have the same old arguments. Makes one wonder if humanity should be measuring its "progress" by the latest electronic devices on the market.
New Visions of the Future Prophecies III (w/ commercials and Video Guide Trouble) Analog Trash 2025-04-25 | The actual show starts at the 9:41 mark.This was an unmarked tape. I put the tape in, and was all excited about the digital cable menu that got recorded on there, but then it wouldn't go away! I have no idea what they were doing. So after waiting ten minutes, I stopped recording and fast forwarded. It was about an hour into the tape before anything happened, and it was an episode of "New Visions of the Future", that show in the 90s that made everyone afraid the apocalypse was going to happen in the year 2000, only for the prophecies to of course never happen. I've uploaded another episode before from one of the tapes I've had since I was a teen. And on the plus side there are commercials. But then the recording stopped, and the rest of the tape was more technical difficulties with the menu. Still, a rare thing to see on an old VHS tape.
Boxings Greatest Hits (HBO, November 1989) Analog Trash 2025-04-14 | This was on one of those HBO tapes I picked up; you can't really do much with the movies themselves, so I usually just digitize the station bumpers and such, but hopefully I'll be allowed to post this. An interesting time capsule for boxing, in particular the boxing aired on HBO from 1973-1989.
20th Century Fox Selections (1997) Analog Trash 2025-04-08 | From the VHS release of The Scout, a baseball movie with Brendan Frasier. This was off a sealed tape too, so this was the first time the tape had been played, just goes to show what the maximum picture and sound quality of a studio VHS tape could be.
Body, Mind, and Soul with Dr. Deepak Chopra (PBS, early 1990s) Analog Trash 2025-03-30 | Off the same tape with the Bill Moyers recordings. The beginning of the first part of this was cut off by said Bill Moyers recordings. I had assumed it was from 1989 too, but there's a part where they advertise the PBS WMFE website, which I know they wouldn't have had yet in 1989. We do get to see some interesting PBS telethon pledge drive footage within and between episodes, feel free to skip around if that's what you're more interested in. Can you believe these tapes were $150? Or $80 for audio cassettes! And that's without adjusting for inflation. "Oh, but think about how expensive tickets to see it live would be".
Bill Moyers: Spirit and Nature (PBS, 1989) Analog Trash 2025-03-26 | Some more PBS recordings from the Unitarian Universalist library I digitized. In this Bill Moyers interviews religious leaders, learning about Islam and Buddhism among other things.
Hallmark Channel Commercials ~ April 2005 Analog Trash 2025-03-22 | This was off a tape I've had for a while of nothing but episodes of Matlock and Perry Mason. It was a bit exhausting having to get up and press record for every commercial break which was why I hadn't digitized it sooner in favor of easier projects, but now that I have a good editing program I can just hit record and leave the room for two hours while my DVD recorder gets the footage, then edit the commercials together in my program Movavi Video Editor.

Faces of Culture: Part 1 (January 28, 1995) Analog Trash 2025-03-15 | This was off another of those tapes I got from the library of a Unitarian Universalist Friendship Fellowship, a documentary series that talks about cultures around the world. There's a second part to this too, which I may as well upload today.
Tahitian Noni Tape (News and Interviews, 1998-2001) Analog Trash 2025-03-12 | It's interesting when you find a tape that someone deliberately edited together rather than the much more common "they hit record and left the room" type of recorded VHS. This tape has various news programs, a segment from the Rosie O'Donnel Show, and some other interviews extolling the virtues of this "miracle fruit" from Tahiti that supposedly cures a myriad of ailments. I had never heard of it prior to watching this tape, I only grabbed it at the thrift store because it said it had news programs on it. Keep in mind though, according to Wikipedia, "On August 26, 1998, the Attorneys General of Arizona, California, New Jersey, and Texas announced a multi-state settlement with Morinda, Inc. (the main distributor of noni juice) following charges that the company had made "unsubstantiated claims in consumer testimonials and other promotional material indicating that its Tahitian Noni juice could treat, cure or prevent numerous diseases such as diabetes, clinical depression, hemorrhoids and arthritis." Meaning they got sued for claiming it had medicinal properties. So, take it all with an enormous grain of salt. The fact that I hadn't ever heard of it probably just goes to show something. But maybe it at least tastes good, I don't know.On the tape it is written that it contains news clips from Channel 10 in Tampa, FL, Channel 6 in Orlando, FL, Channels 4 and 12 in Jacksonville, FL, a segment from Rosie O'Donnell, and programs titled "Noni band COX2 Connection", "Dog & Diabetes", "Understanding the Miracle", "Resurrection Ranch" and "COPE".
HBO Signature: Bumpers and Commercials (January 2008) Analog Trash 2025-03-10 | This was off one of those 6-hour recorded tapes with three movies from HBO you often find at thrift stores where the only real historical worth is the bumpers between the movies, if the person decided to record them, but what is interesting is the year it was recorded. You usually don't find VHS recordings from after the early 2000s (although of course I was still recording on VHS back then and still do from time to time for the aesthetics). It was tricky to date but the fact that they mention re-airing the final season of The Sopranos, which concluded in June 2007, plus other commercials with dates leads me to believe this was recorded in January 2008.
KWOD 106.5 DJ Segment ~ Super Soaker in the Crotch (Summer 2000, audio cassette) Analog Trash 2025-03-06 | This was a segment I rediscovered on one of my old mixtapes. Hoping the copyright bots let this one slide with that little Metallica parody. It's from the morning show they used to have with the DJs Shawn and Jeff, during this segment they reportedly went around downtown Sacramento on a hot day offering people a super soaker to the crotch. I don't remember how many people actually took them up on the offer. The tape it was on was something I recorded in the summer of 2000, but I don't have an exact date. This was the only DJ segment or station bumper that made it onto the tape.
Flying Off the Bridge to Nowhere (Pittsburg Bridge Documentary, 1990) Analog Trash 2025-03-03 | Part of a trio of videos I found about bridges in the Pittsburg/Philidelphia, Pennsylvania area. I've never been there myself, so it was interesting.

If the audio is a little too garbled to understand here's the script:"Greetings, your favorite neighborhood archivist Analog Trash here with some channel news updates. First order of business, it seems like that PBS bumper compilation video really took off, over 1,000 views at the time of this recording, and I’m closing in on 1,000 subscribers too. Thank you very much everyone for that. I also uploaded the whole tape over on Internet Archive, so look me up under Analog Trash and you’ll find it there. Everyone likes it when I find kids stuff on old tapes, but then I go back to random old documentaries and stuff and it confuses some people. Like I said in the description, I was a teen when that was recorded in 2000 so it wasn’t part of my childhood, but I’m glad it excited you younger folks. For me it would be finding early 90s Nick Jr. or Disney Channel footage. I would watch PBS from time to time as a kid but those were my favorite channels, along with Cartoon Network, which not every cable company carried. But that just goes to show you I didn’t record this footage, it was a lucky thrift store find. And it was just this one tape. Now I feel I must provide a bit of a disclaimer. Seems like I get this question a lot when I strike VHS gold, but no, I don’t have any more WMFE PBS footage, just because I upload one thing doesn’t mean I have a whole warehouse full of tapes with this footage. I don’t control what I find, it’s pretty much all luck. I would put it in the video description if I had several more tapes of something like that.Actually I have some sad news on that, the thrift store I was getting a lot of these tapes from has discontinued carrying VHS and audio cassettes. I was bummed. Made me think of how I felt when Blockbuster Video stopped carrying VHS. But, there are other thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets in my area that might still have tapes. And I have a mountain of tapes to get through and digitize anyway. In fact let me show you my VHS piles. So here’s one of them, see that? It’s three stacks. I really need to clean my room, and to do that I need to save the footage off these tapes so I can throw them away, unless of course they’re something I feel like keeping. You know if you want that PBS tape just let me know in the comments, maybe I could either sell it or trade for it. Here’s a picture of it. And here’s the second pile next to my TV stand, which is even taller, another three stacks. And I still have a bunch of tapes I got from a Unitarian Universalist library in these tape drawers. That mostly documentaries from the late 80s, and you see a couple tapes I already digitized, the Fox and the ABC ones. At the very least they might have some interesting commercials on them.So you see, even though my supply has been cut off, I still have quite a lot of tapes to get through. Probably enough to last the rest of the year. And that’s not even getting into the audio cassettes I have. And I have a nice, reliable VCR right now with pretty good video quality. NBC Commercials ~ December 23, 1991 Analog Trash 2025-01-30 | These were from an airing of "The Sound of Music". There were more commercial breaks on the tape, but the picture quality was becoming very unwatchable despite my tracking efforts, this was what I was able to salvage.
PBS Bumpers ~ WMFE Orlando (December 2000) Analog Trash 2025-01-21 | So the rest of the 6-hour tape that had that airing of "The Sword in the Stone" from WB, from which I uploaded the commercials from a couple days ago, was filled with PBS kids programming; Clifford, Dragon Tales, Teletubbies, Caillou, Barney, Arthur, and Sesame Street (episode 3889 to be exact; I looked it up on the Muppet Wiki and its original airdate was in April 6, 2000, but the fact that this has the Arthur Christmas Special leads me to believe it was a rerun). I was too old to be watching kids shows on PBS in 2000, but surely this was somebody's nostalgic childhood, so here you go.I have now uploaded the whole tape on Internet Archive, minus The Sword and the Stone part. Campbells Chunky NFL In-Store Promotion Training Video (1990s) Analog Trash 2025-01-20 | This one was an odd find but interesting. Always fun finding tapes not meant to be seen by the general public. It instructs grocery store workers on how to handle an NFL/Campbell's soup cross-promotion. Man, that cardboard cutout football player's hand though, it's bigger than his whole torso. He could fit your skull in the palm of his hand and crush it.
WB Commercials ~ November 2000 Analog Trash 2025-01-19 | These are from an airing of Disney's "The Sword and the Stone", oddly enough. I guess if the Disney Channel can play non-Disney movies, The WB could play non-Warner Bros. movies. This was from Orlando's WB station WKCF, which in 2006 merged with UPN into The CW with the station WESH, which is still around today.This same tape had a bunch of PBS kids programming on it too, like Clifford, Teletubbies, Sesame Street. Expect bumpers from that segment as well in the future.
Commercials from Once Upon a Time in China 2 (2001 VHS Release) Analog Trash 2025-01-14 | From the "Now available to own on Video and DVD" era. Later they would list DVD first, then they'd drop "video" altogether. Some movie studios didn't copy protect their tapes, namely Columbia and Warner Bros., I've noticed. I was able to get these off Once Upon a Time in China 2, which I picked up at a thrift store because martial arts movies are kind of a rare find. Not as rare as horror but almost. They're a nice pre-9/11 2001 time capsule.
Biltmore Estate: Festival of Flowers ~ April 3 to May 3, 1998 Analog Trash 2025-01-07 | This was one of those super-short, five minute VHS tapes that they would send to people in the mail, where they don't even give you a window on the cassette to see if the tape is moldy, so it's a bit of a game of Russian roulette but I think my VCR is still fine. It's a glorified commercial basically. The Biltmore Estate still exists, basically it's a humongous mansion that rich people can stay at.
Alien Encounters Conference (1997) Analog Trash 2025-01-07 | I was disappointed when this turned out to be some kind of religious talk, I wanted it to be an actual alien convention. Shows what weird stuff these televangelists preach though. I normally don't post stuff like this, but this tape was just too weird to ignore. Way to use the tragedy of the Heaven's Gate cult to push your agenda too, that was pretty tasteless. The intro is the only good part, admittedly.
Commercials from December 1989 ~ USA, Magical World of Disney Analog Trash 2024-12-24 | I've uploaded these segments before, but I felt like putting them all in one video now that I have a program that lets me do that, because they're all from the same VHS tape that I've had since I was a toddler and watched all the time, with the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special and Mickey's Christmas Carol among other things. I have special nostalgia for these segments, that are 35 years old this year. Enjoy the holidays, my subscribers.
Robot Memories: Starring Bob May (1991) Analog Trash 2024-12-24 | A documentary about Bob May, the actor who played the robot in Lost and Space as well as other memorable roles.
Facercise (1996) Analog Trash 2024-12-19 | Can making goofy facial expressions reverse the aging process? Well, the fact that this never caught on answers that question I think. One of those funny thrift store finds.
Spanish Coca~Cola Commercials (audio cassette, 9/26/1986) Analog Trash 2024-12-19 | This was a mysterious tape I picked up at the thrift store. I wasn't expecting it to be in Spanish though. TDK D45s are rare tapes, and really short, as the number suggests. Why would someone record this? Maybe whoever did was involved in making the commercials, for all I know. Tragically the tape snapped when I got to the end of Side A. There was stuff on Side B too. I might try to open the shell and repair the tape.
HBO Bumpers (November 1989) Analog Trash 2024-12-11 | This is off a blank tape that had two movies and a boxing documentary on it. I might upload the boxing documentary soon, if I'm allowed to post it. There were three segments, I spliced all the bumpers together into one video. December 1st was a Friday in 1989, hence I was able to date the tape by the ad for the network premier of "Alien Nation".
Lake Tahoe Vacation (Camcorder Footage, 1990s) Analog Trash 2024-12-10 | This had some good picture quality for a camcorder recording. The only thing on the tape itself was a sticker reading "Tahoe Vacation". The one thing that helps me date it is that the guy recording goes to Ponderosa Ranch, a theme park based on the show "Bonanza" near Lake Tahoe that closed in 2004.

Instant Magic You Can Do! - Vol. 1 (1991) Analog Trash 2024-11-28 | I found a couple tapes that were sold at the Old Town Magic Shop in Kissimmee, Florida. I don't think the store is there anymore, although now they have some sort of magic hall for performances. There's a Volume 2 as well released the next year that I will be digitizing soon.
New York and Philidelphia Trip (Audio Cassette, 3/1/1990) Analog Trash 2024-11-26 | Someone brought their tape recorder along with them on another vacation back in March of 1990. They go on a tour of some museums, including the Statue of Liberty. A lot of the tape was left blank, I actually had to rewind to the start of Side B to get the second part. Makes it that much easier to record over.
ABC 7 News, New York ~ April 18, 1997 Analog Trash 2024-11-20 | Another short news clip from the same tape as last time. They didn't record the whole episode this time, as it cut into an episode of "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper", which I don't think I'll risk uploading here, maybe look for it on my Internet Archive account in the future. Depressing couple of stories on this clip. RIP Kevin Cedeño.
Uncle Remus Stories on Tape (Speaker and Date Unknown) Analog Trash 2024-11-20 | This tape was a very interesting discovery. I don't know any more about it than what was written on the tape though. Nothing on the speaker or the date it was recorded. So, content warning: I recognize that a lot of these old stories are problematic and perhaps racist, particularly the last one on the tape, but there's a historical value to them that shouldn't be ignored, I think. This in no way excuses any racism in it, but to censor the past is to attempt to erase it. I threw some public domain illustrations off Gutenberg.org on there, although I couldn't really find the proper illustrations for a couple of the stories. I think my favorite was Brer Rabbit Goes Hunting. Such clever trickery in that tale. He really was like the proto-Bugs Bunny.That slick Sony UX-S 90 Type II cassette is the real reason I picked this tape up; I'll be recording a nice mixtape on it now that I've archived this. Imagine leaving two thirds of the tape completely blank afterwards. WPIX 11 News - New York (April 18, 1997, w/ commercials) Analog Trash 2024-11-19 | Another segment from that tape I've been mining for content lately, here's a news program. I love finding these, their perfect little time capsules. Even if the stories can be depressing at times. Anyway, I have a few more news broadcasts on the tape to upload soon. Next up will be another audio cassette digitization, which I know they're not as popular, but they're still fun to make.
French Tutorial Tape (Audio Cassette Recording) Analog Trash 2024-11-15 | I don't have a date for this one, it's another thrift store tape that I bought so I could record over it, but not before saving its former contents. I took German in High School instead of French or Spanish, maybe it's time I learned some French. Bothers me how nothing is spelled the way it sounds in that language, but "c'est la vie", as the French say.This will be one of the last Clideo digitizations, now that I have a proper video editor.

Related tapes that I believe were recorded by the same person I was able to date to 1990, but I don't know for sure what year this was recorded, there's not much written on the tape.
